New generation flagship smartphones are coming with a wide variety of different body materials used. Most commonly for the back or full body of a phone are Plastic, followed by Glass, Metal, Ceramics and Leather. Each material has its specific characteristics to meet requirements, from flexible, to hard, to scratch- resistant.
The launch of Samsung’s and OPPO’s new flagship devices showcasing differences of materials used for the phone’s back. Whereas the Galaxy S22 Ultra comes as Glass back (Corning Gorilla Glass Victus), the Find X5 Pro’s back is microcrystalline Ceramic.
Glass vs. Ceramics
The main difference between glass and ceramics is that glass is non-crystalline while ceramic is crystalline. Silicon dioxide is the main component of glass, while clay is the main component of ceramics. Each material characteristic reacts differently to heating; Ceramic shows a better behavior on high temperatures than glass, which plays out well for the overall device temperature.
Vickers Hardness Scale: Ceramic 1200-13000 HV, versus glass, which has a rating of 600-630 HV
Due its complexity in manufacturing and material hardness, the cost for material- and production of Ceramics is much higher compared to Glass.
A look at OPPO Find X5 Pro’s Ceramic Back:
It’s said that OPPO found inspiration for the design from nature in that “there are no straight lines or sharp corners in nature”, with the intention to create the back cover as gentle flow around the camera lenses in a “volcano-like” form.
The design itself isn’t the challenge, but the production out of ceramic due to the material complexity. The Find X5 Pro is made of microcrystalline hot-forged at 1,000-degrees Celsius, which results in a fingerprint-resistant texture while making it twice as strong as glass, allowing a better heat performance.
The point: Ceramic cannot be formed like glass, its size shrinks after calcining it making it extremely challenging to achieve the required dimensions. OPPO’s engineers have invented a process which sees the ceramic rear panel carved with over 2,000 individual control points used to create its seamlessly organic curves.
A perfectly machined, premium ceramic rear cover takes five whole days to produce, with a yield of 97% compared to 87%, a completely new four-axis polishing process refines the machined edges for a smoother finished look, enabling a precision of up to 0.005mm.
My takeaway
Personally, I never used a phone with Ceramic for long-term, but all different devices made of Plastic, Leather, and Glass. Where Glass intends to break easily when falling, plastic proved its flexibility and saved me many repair cycles already. The last ceramic phone I tested was Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 4 with Ceramic unibody. Overall I had a great experience, the handset’s appearance was lit. Seeing OPPO’s dedication to the design and materials used for Find X5 Pro, I believe that it's not just one of these specials that brings flagship device users the difference, but makes it more premium than any other smartphone.
What about you? Glass, Ceramic, Plastic.. What's your fav.?

In fact I favor Ceramic, it feels a bit more premium to me and the increased scratch resistance is a big benefit, especially for the resale value as I tend to change devices quite often....
Downside is: Ceramic is heavier than glass....
But I would not go that far and buy only "Ceramic" phones, just too many other aspects are more important for me in a smartphone and in most cases I use a case anyway

I was planning to buy the s22 plus, however there's no stock available. I'm learning more about this OPPO Find x5 Pro, design looks beatiful but how is the update policy?

Yes, sure - there are so many other items within the phone having a big influence on weight (just bearing in mind the massive camera module of the S22U).
In fact I never found a comparison of a glass backplate to a ceramic one for a smartphone, so my comment on weight is rather a general one about the contribution of the corresponding backplate to the overall weight.

Agree with the premium feel and the proven scratch resistance of ceramic. Personally, I would end up buying an Otterbox since I always fall asleep holding my phone. I mean, who doesn't use a case nowadays?

OPPO's update policy for flagship is 4 years of security updates, and 3 major Android updates. Since it comes with ColorOS 12.1, you'd be good until about Android 15.

Good evening.
8 days ago I gave the s22 ultra and the main reason was the problem it has with the gps. I was bored waiting for an upgrade to solve it. I bought the Oppo find x5 pro in white. If we exclude the s-pen and the brightness of the screen in all other parts the Oppo is equally good or even better. For me the biggest advantages are the battery standby, it is the incredible speed of the battery charge and finally the feeling in the hand. It is more comfortable in the hand. I did not expect it.

I thought it would have a fragile feel to it, or a feeling of luxury since it was ceramic and was thinking it be best to cover up in a sturdy case or otterbox to keep it from breaking. Was the feeling of comfort from the size, grip, or ceramic feel?

I use case all the time so it is just the size that makes the good feel in the hand.Generally it reminds me huawei p30 pro which was really nice all around phone

I had an essential ph1 and it had a ceramic back with a titanium frame. That's my preference because it was built like a tank so I had little worry of going caseless. There's also something about the feel of ceramic were just by touching it you feel security and the premium quality that just doesn't apply to any other material.

Technically, glass can also provide a premium quality, but I feel more secure with the ceramic as glass might break easily. Did you keep it caseless throughout your use? I'm a bit wary if I am not even using the silicon case.

Plastic back and sides/bezel. FAR more durable for drops and bumps. My old S3 and S4, and Note4 survived absolute hell at the hands of my friends' kids, as have my folks' S7 Actives.
Just about every glass phone ive seen has eventually had a busted screen or back...
Plastic constuction, removable battery, headphone jack and flat screens were IMO peak Samsung S/Note series, no stupid cases needed either.

Plastic is definitely a more sturdy option before they chose to explore other materials.
What did you think about the leather backed models?

I kept it caseless, used it off and on for a year and it still looked practically new when I parted ways with it.

Always the best case scenario, especially for buyers of pre-loved devices.
I get surprised to see the color of my phone when it is out of the case especially because I always have a non-transparent case on.

Good point. I like it better as the texture for cases - tablets or phones. As the actual back of the phone, meh. I mean, how do you even clean it?

yep, cases its fine, i usually have a folding leather wallet case for travelling.
i guess it could work as a slim case, but built on, no thanks.

Leave leather for cases, it's a consumable item long term.
Ceramic backed phones FTW! I love my S10+ 1TB. The white ceramic reminds me of a toilet top! :-D And forget about worrying about breaking it when dropped! It is heavier though.

Phone colors do not really mean as much nowadays since you can always customize phone cases. I am always with an otterbox so I rarely see my phone's color. I mean how can you? I just always look at the screen and not the back.

Seidio Active X Case Black Review UPDATED - 50+ pics

Will be doing a thorough review on the Seidio Active X Case, including some tests for durability. Pictures will be included.
Providing the Basics today along with a few photos, will run the case through a series of test for durability and use this weekend. More pictures to come!
My apologies if a couple pics don't look so great Camera was giving me issues.
Intro:
Well Just received the Seidio Active X case today and I have to say I was surprised. You are provided with three pieces. Outer Screen protector, a rubber back skin, and then a Plastic Skeleton to go over the rubber back piece. Installation was breeze and this case is easier to remove due to the design of the Plastic Skeleton. Outer Screen protector is pretty simple to remove but having finger nails will benefit greatly! Another thing to note: Since the Skeleton is a separate piece, changing colors will be simple ( if you wanted to could even paint it! ). Sliding Mechanism was not affected at all.

Design:
Outer Screen protector
Outer Screen Protection Piece does have a taller lip and it is a little thicker but feels strong. With the taller lip I didn't find any affect or issues with comfort on the use of the screen or buttons. The finish is smooth with a rubbery feel, and yes you may find that one or two little bumps within the finish - (If you really want to remove the bumps in the finish then use 1500 or 2000 wet sand paper and very Lightly go over the bumps. Make sure to wet the paper - this will allow you to keep the finish). The tabs are located on both the top and bottom of the piece and sectioned in the middle ( view pictures above ). -- This is nice since the most common issue with cases is scratching or restriction due to the tabs being placed on each side.
Rubber Skin:
IMO - I love this! Provides protection for the phone without the possibility of the case scratching the phone itself. Both the Power and Volume buttons are covered but fit the form of the phone and require the same amount of pressure to be pushed. As for the cut outs - Match perfect- Mic, USB, Headphone, Camera, and LED, and if by chance yours does not you can also trim whatever excess you need to since its rubber.
Back Skeleton:
The back Skeleton has a very smooth finish with no bump in sight. The skeleton itself is very sturdy along with the clips located on each corner. Now the design was to set for most common point of Impact. On any phone there are 6 points - Top Left and Right Corner - Bottom Left and Right Corner - Left Side - Right Side. The Skeleton was designed around these 6 points of impact along with using the rubber skin interior as a shock absorber. The skeleton Case Wraps around on each point which in truth allows for a sturdier construction due to each point of impact being supported both by form and curvature.
I will provide pics of the phone within the case once the Camera is charged.

If you can assure me that this product 1. Does not look as rough around the edges as in the pictures on the website 2. Allows me full functionality of the keyboard (slides open *duh*, doesn't hinder ability to use top row number buttons) 3. Is durable and well made enough to justify spending $29.95 on a case, then I will glady purchase it. Question: Is there any way you could get pictures different angles of the case for example the top and bottom with keyboard open/closed, I am seriously interested as long as I can have some good information to go off of.

I thought i was he only one that notced it was looking a little rough on the website.. i hope a company like seido wouldn't release a product looking like that..

Any information any user provided I sent off to seidio for development of the active x case that way they can attempt a perfect case. I'm not sure but I think the color plate is switchable which would be a nice option.

Sadly ALL of the Active cases are like that.
On the Nexus and Evo active cases, the rubber has lots of extra bits, and the ports aren't perfectly cut.
On the Evo, the plastic shell doesn't fit perfectly around the rubber skin, and has a bit of a gap.
You can take a exacto blade and remove the uneven edges if you want.

That's disappointing to hear, how could they expect me to pay that amount for such bad quality? When we get some detailed pictures I will have a better idea of the quality, but until then all indicators point to a poor quality product.

Seidio is currently the best quality case out there for the epic but it ISN'T any OtterBox or even CaseMate.
The plastic exoshell on my friends Evo has been shedding since she purchased it. Little bits of plastic come off the shell just from having it in her pocket.
Seidio is not worth the price of the product, quality wise. But when there is literally nothing else on the market, what else can ya do?

Not hard at all, just grab a corner and pull away slightly and should come right off.
Still not sure I can justify paying $30 for a case vs. $2 I paid for my ebay one. I'm sure quality is very different, but I feel like the level of protection I get from my ebay one (which I guess we are referring to as the "bar" kind from that other review) is adequate enough. It feels good in the hands too. I'll wait to see pics of this when you have everything fully assembled. I'm wondering how thick it gets with 3 pieces.
Updated More pics
How much more thickness does it add. Is it still pocketable? obviously it'll be thicker but pictures and actual hands on is always a differant story. Thanks!

Just a tad thicker really, add maybe 1mm if that IMO. Fits in the pocket no issue at all, and the case finger groves are perfect, ambidextrous. Also the lip around the Face Protection of the case has more depth.

[User Review] MyBat Tuff Hybrid protector case

Aloha!
So i've looked and searched, but there doesn't seem to be any reviews of this case for the Google Nexus 4 (LG e960).
I've also had experiences in the past with MyBat cell phone cases, Both good and bad.
So let's get started. I'll try to give you as complete a review as possible.
Where to get it:
http://www.mybat.com/Product/TUFF_Hybrid_Protector_Covers-17-288-0.html
I got mine from: Cell Pro (California, US) via E-Bay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/cellpro/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25&_trksid=p3686
(Free shipping, to Hawaii and it got here in TWO (2) days!!!)
This one in particular is called: LG Nexus 4 E960 Hybrid Hard Case Silicone Cover Black / White Skin TUFF
Review scoring:
Material -- 8.0/10 - Hard plastic parts of the case didn't feel flimsy and withstood initial installation, removal and re-installation (for the purposes of getting good pictures) without any tabs breaking. The soft ?silicone? rubber inner sleeve was also installed, removed and re-installed without incident, although i will say that the top and bottom portions of it did feel a little thin when slipping the phone into the sleeve.
Grip -- 7.5/10 - As you all know, the Nexus 4 is a pretty slippery phone after a few hours of use, due to oils from your hands getting on it, This case improves that condition considerably, and the slightly raised buttons and ribs make it a lot easier to hang on to. It still slipped in my hands but grip was regained when my fingers caught on the raised soft ?silicone? on the sides of the case/phone.
Buttons: Ease of Use -- 8.5/10 -- Ease for button - Remarkably the button feel/feedback is improved since you have more of a button to push, no longer mostly flush with the side of the phones body.
Fit / Finish -- 9.0/10 -- Snug fit/Hole openings - The cut outs are actually pretty good for a $9.00 case. No real 'seams' or molding artifacts to be seen. All the holes lined up with little attention to "making them line up". The soft ?silicone? rubber fits like a comfy glove over the phone, and after the hard shell is installed, only the top and bottom forward facing sections can be lifted, but it is not loose or 'easily' pulled away from the phone either. In my opinion, it's a fairly snug fit. There is no 'gaps' of significant concern after the hard plastic shell pieces are installed. (no more than you'd expect for a $9.00 case anyway ... )
Appearance / Style - Kinda subjective, but imo it makes it look like a i-Phone 5 (lol) -- [[ http://www.tekbeattv.com/review/mybat-tuff-hybrid-case-review-for-the-iphone-5/ ]]
Protection -- 7.0/10 - This case feels like it'd do a pretty good job protecting the phone from most everyday hazards. raised lip to protect the front screen and completely covers the rest of the phone in about 1/8" of
Price/Value -- 9/10 - My reason is simple. Its a $9.00 case, that realistically offers really good protection for the 'everyday' perils of owning/using this phone (Nexus 4).
Pros: Adds pretty decent protection against the everyday perils, I wouldn't suggest it would survive 500ft drops though. Really inexpensive, Good Fit/Finish. Raised lip around the front screen protects the screen and does not lift or cause any problems with my T-Mobile screen protector.
Cons: While also a "benefit", the raised lip of the case interferes with using my current favorite ROM (Paranoid Android 2.99 Beta NINE.9+ PIE). Since the lip is raised and very close to the edge of the screen it's more difficult to activate the "PIE" than without the case. It also adds a fair amount of width / thickness to the phone, (I estimate around 1/4" (1/8" all around)). It also loses it's "sexy" curvy feel, for a more square-ish feel (ala i-Phone 5-ish)
- Low Bandwidth warning - Pictures follow

Comparison measurements for those concerned about increased bulk (which is inevitable on this type of case)
Stock measurements: 5.27 x 2.70 x 0.36 in
(quoted from: http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_nexus_4_e960-5048.php)
After case installed measurements: 5.5625 x 2.8750 x 0.5625 in
(no where near "100% accurate" but as measured by my measuring tape .... )
(5 9/16" x 2 7/8" x 9/16")
Very nice review, thanks! Would you say that the silicone on top and bottom is thick enough to offer good protection from regular drops? I am also owning this case http://www.ebay.com/itm/FULL-BLACK-...ccessories&hash=item51a60af104#ht_2077wt_1372 and it did not really impress me, silicone is very thin and it even slipped off the phone while in my pocket.

Aloha Lownita,
Yes, while i can't say "how much of a drop the top and bottom can handle", i think it offers pretty good protection with about 5/32" of silicone rubber at the top and bottom of the phone (estimated by 1/2-ing the increased height of the phone with this case on), and i'd estimate a bit more at the corners (which is what makes the phone look more square unfortunately for those that love the aesthetics of the natural design of the phone)
I have carried this phone/case combination in my jeans pocket and tried taking it out of my pocket while sitting in the car. The case/rubber does not come off. (and I don't wear really baggy jeans).
Overall, I'm happy with the case. aside from the cons i listed in my review, i haven't had any other complaints come up while using it.
I'll probably do a short / long term update on this case over the next few months.
Enjoy! and if you get it, i hope you enjoy it's protection as much as i am.

Proximity sensor, hrm I've taken calls and the screen goes blank, but i think i might have seen it where when i moved the phone away from my ear, it didn't wake the display? maybe? Is that what you're referring to? i've only had that happen once. and have used the phone for multiple calls.

yeah i have to be in a brightly lit room for the screen to come on while i'm making a call. I thought it might be a rom/kernel issue, but it seems to work right after I take off the hard plastic cover. otherwise, this is a really nice case.
I have the solid black version of this case as well. I have had no proximity sensor issues so far.
I've had this now for ~2 weeks. So far, so good! That said, I don't use this as my daily case as it's too bulky. This is my "I'm going to the gym" or "I'm doing something rough outside" case.
I agree with pretty much the entire review. As far as how good the protection is, I don't think I can say there is another case available that will protect your phone better than this case. Sure, the protection can be increased, but I'm unaware of any case that accomplishes this for our Nexus 4.
Okay.. well... get into work today, and not 1 hour into the day and my phone took it's first tumble. Only about a foot and a half or so, directly onto the NOC raised floor. Short distance, and not a rough outdoor street or sidewalk but the case did it's job. it bounced once or twice and landed flat, screen side down. no scuffs or damage to the case.
 not much of fall but certainly doing what i predicted it would do. Protect the phone from every day mishaps.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear
FYI, one more piece of info that might be important to some about this case:
I *am* able to charge my phone on my LG WCP-700 Qi charger, but it must be in the absolute perfect spot! It can't move even 1 mm, it seems! Take the back hard cover off, and you then get a little bit of play. Some other Qi chargers have even less of an available area of play with our Nexus 4s in general, so I'd assume they wouldn't even work with this case. Ultimately, YMMV but I'd go with the assumption that you can't charge wirelessly with this case. Larger USB cables will fit in the gap with this case just fine, though (a problem with some cases).
Just a quick question, does the case interfere with NFC operation in any way?
Cheers,

I haven't tried yet but based on the effect reported when using qi charger I'd say it 'might' interfere especially if the other phone also has a case.
Time will tell on this issue as more people get this phone and use it to its fullest capabilities

Update:
Tried NFC transfer today with a buddy of mine and his SGSIII, works fine. his was in case, and mine in this case. NFC detection and file transfer (3mb) worked great.
Hey guys. . .New to the Forums!
Just picked up a N4 from T-Mo, and this thread just made my decision for this case, especially when I'm not going to wait for Otterbox to start or evermake a case for this. As well as some of the posts bout NFC working with this case. . . .
Just curious if there would be any issues with a glass screen (like the Clarivue HD Glass) with this case. Or a best screen protector that will cover most of the glass (cutouts for sensor and camera) without interfering with the sensitivity and screen resolution while using this case. . Like Zagg/GhostArmor or similar thick screen protectors

[REVIEW] Cruzlite 'Experience Case'

Hello all,
I have just received a Cruzerlite 'Experience' case for review. Firstly, I'd like to thank XDA for this great website and to all the members on this forum, I've learned a lot and appreciate all the info found here on how to take full advantage of my Galaxy S4. I find it incredible the vast amount of knowledge on XDA and the willingness of others to share. Thanks to 'opasha' for announcing the need for Beta Testers. Cruzerlite contacted me via PM on July 6th and after emailing them my contact info, one of their products arrived in the mail on July 18. Please note that I am NOT being compensated financially for this review and that the opinion stated in this post is my own. As stated in 'opasha' original post, this is a product Beta Test. The final product you receive may or may not be exactly like the one in this review. I recommend contacting Cruzerlite ( http://www.cruzerlite.com/cases/samsung/galaxy-s-iv ) directly for any questions regarding specs, availability, color options, or additional information.

Came in the mail in a bubble pack. The case is enclosed in a clear plastic box, it's rigid enough so it doesn't get crushed in the bubble pack while being mailed:
The Case that I requested was for a bright color and they sent orange. Some of you may be picky like I am, the shade of the color is very important to me, here it is next to my S4 for comparison:
Since this is the 'Experience' case, it has graphics of various android themes. IMO it's fun and matches well with the bright orange. The back is frosted but the android graphics itself are clear:
Looking at the lateral edges you can see that it is also clear:
With the case on my Black Mist colored S4 it darkens the shade of orange a bit, to my eyes kinda like a light rust or light root beer color.
One thing to note from this angle is the quality of construction. On inferior/cheap ebay cases, there is a noticeable amount of excess material (flash) and at times there can be a edge or 'lip' formed at the seam of the where the front meets the back. If this occurs in a case it is quite an annoyance. On my current tpu case (a generic one I got off ebay, as I like yellow it was the only place to find that specific color) the lip is quite sharp.
On the Cruzerlite 'Experience' it did not exhibit any excessive 'flash' materials and the 'lip' was minimal. IMO, this is reflective of higher quality control and manufacturing standards that you may not find in a cheaper product.
Let's take a look at the dimensions of the Cruzerlite case. I measured my S4 as is and it came in at approximately .333 inches in thickness
With the 'Experience' case on it measured approximately .388 inches so the Cruzerlit TPU case adds a scant .05 to the overall thickness.
Next area to examine are the cutouts. Here we have the camera and flash. The cuts lined up correctly and is slightly raised around the camera. It's a dual hole design which I prefer. Other brands do a single cut for both camera and flash which IMO is less protective. Also the case adds some height to the phone so if you lay your S4 on a flat surface, it doesn't come into direct contact with the camera lens.
Areas around the ports are important to inspect, if it is cut too high or not thick enough in certain areas, it will affect the structural integrity of the case and can cause bowing making the case act or look flimsy. On my ebay case it bows around the front side where the volume and power ports so visually it looks bad. The Cruzerlite tpu IMO struck a good balance in it's construction, is not too soft (like a silicon case) but not overly hard (like a hard plastic). It's flexible enough to retain it's shape but soft enough to get it on and off easily while still being secure. Texture wise, the back is smooth to slide in and out of pants pockets with the lateral sides having enough tact for grip and not being overly slippery.
Moving down to the bottom of the phone the cut out for the charging port is slightly offset to the left. While it is not centered correctly it allowed plenty of space for the OEM micro usb cable and my aftermarket ones.
The microphone area is also off center. I was concerned with it blocking sound quality so I places several calls to see if it was affected. Fortunately it did not interfere with sound transmission nor did it affect volume.
The power button is exposed, which is a design I prefer. Other cases have it covered making it a tad more difficult to press.
On the volume button side, it's open just like the power button.
At the top of the phone the cut out for the 3.5mm headset jack and microphone are aligned. I use either a Monster iSport or Etymotic earbuds and the ports are wide enough to fit without any problems.
The ir port is also centered correctly allowing full function:
Going to the back side of the case, the speaker port is not centered but the cutout was wide enough for it to fully work.
Overall I am happy with the case. It's construction and quality is better than other tpu cases I have tried and comes in at a reasonable price (as listed on their site it's only $9.90). I've had it for 2 days now and it will be replacing the current one that I am using. Any changes on my impressions will be added to this post. I plan to use it for another 2-3 weeks and as I like it very much will purchase one from Cruzerlite ( http://www.cruzerlite.com/cases/samsung/galaxy-s-iv ), only hard part is deciding on what color!
Thanks again for the opportunity to review the case. I'd like to pay it forward and send this case out in a few weeks for review to another XDA'er. If you are genuinely interested in a orange case by Cruzerlite, reply to this post with either positive comments or constructive criticism. You must reside in the U.S. and actually own a S4 AND willing to post a unbaised review here on XDA within a week of receiving the case from me. Thanks for taking the time to read this review and hope that it helps. HAGWE everyone!
Great review! Very indepth. I am impressed with your ability tobreak down the pros and cons of the case to a scientific level

So after getting an email from cruzerlite this morning I decided to check my mail. This is a review for the cyan/light blue Experience case from Cruzerlite.
Just as the previous reviewer mentioned the cutouts seemed to not be exact or correctly aligned on initial application to the phone. With some slight pull of the tpu and correct alignment I was able to get the case to properly adjust with near perfect alignment.
As for the design, it looks very good with the phone in the case. The images on the back of the tpu are on point , transparent and unique from your average tpu cases. At first I was debating on the color thinking it might be too light or not too "manly" of a color for me. Im glad I chose this color, it's more than I expected. The color is great, it has more of an aqua color appearance in person.
The IR sensor and noise canceling mic is centered and does not affect the sound quality performance. As for the headphone cutout it is wide allowing headphones (straight or L shaped) to fit properly.
The charge port cutout is wide allowing OEM to third party cables to be used with this case.
I do have a screen protector (cheap one) on my phone. The case does Not affect my screen protector. Meaning it does not raise any edges or cause any type of push to the screen protector.
The lip of the case greatly protects the screen from getting scratched while laying the phone screen down on a table or any flat surface; while at the same time adds a completely new appearance and feel for the user.
As you can see from the image below the case is just about a hair thinner compared to the platinum series case or "seido" case.
Overall I think the case is of premium quality. It seems very durable and will protect your phone from getting scuffed on the edges from accidental drops. This case exceeded my expectations thinking it would be just like the average tpu cases I have used on my past devices. I recommend this case to anyone looking into purchasing a tpu case. For the price listed on amazon I think its worth the purchase.
Edit: The camera is horrible with flash. I constantly get a blue tint on all pictures now. Only with the case on of course. Have moved back to previous case because of this.
Thanks to Cruzerlite and XDA for the opportunity of reviewing this case.
Thanks, hope this review helps someone who is considering a Cruzerlite and purchasing this case.
Appreciate you looking, IMO it's a well made case and comes in a variety of colors and styles.
Thanks for your indepth review j510, your case looks like it fits perfectly.

Received my green case yesterday, after a day of use around the job site I am gratefully impressed with the case. I'll try to get some pictures up tomorrow I'm not usually to much for tpu cases but CruzerLite has done it with this one. The textured back makes it not slippery, I've also taken the case on and off a bunch of times trying to see if it's going to stretch out and or wear to the point it doesn't fit properly. To my amazement I still fits perfectly, I've actually like it so much I want to pick up a couple more colors. The one and only thing that I don't personally care for that much is the icon pattern on the back but the good definitely out weighs the bad, I've also had a few people say they like the green case on black S4. If you are debating the case all i can say is don't great case and doesn't add much bulk. :good:

Green Galaxy S4 case Pics
Here you go.... bare with me used my wife's Epic 4g Touch to take the pictures.
I got the white Open Experience case today. I want to thank Cruzerlite for sending this case! My first impressions: the case feels very nice in the hand [better than anything I've bought off eBay for the same price this case goes for]. The cutouts are very precise (only thing is the speaker beside the USB port is slightly off but I am sure it will get fixed but no big deal as it doesn't cover it fully). There is a plus! I'm using a Spigen glass.tR slim and the case fits perfectly without chipping it off. Protection is minimal, the same you can expect with any cases in this category, however it does add a slight lip raising the phone's screen (even with my glass screen protector). The case is quite stylish it makes the phone stand out. I received the white one and dang the thing looks good with my black S4 (good contrast). Buttons are easy to press. Overall quality!
Sorry for the picture quality, they are taken with a Blackberry Curve
Might have been just a slight defect with yours or maybe the white one, my green one is spot on. By the way that white does look nice, thanks again Cruzlite

[REVIEW][+PICS!] Seidio OBEX Case/Holster Combo

Seidio OBEX Case and Holster for Galaxy S4
Seidio has proven to me that they are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to quality cell phone cases. I’ve owned a Seidio case for ALL of my Android devices (HTC Hero, HTC Evo, Samsung Epic, Samsung Droid Charge, Droid Razr, Nexus 7 (2012), Nexus 4 and now the Samsung Galaxy S4). All of these cases have been excellent and others have hands-down blown me away (such as their Active Case for the Nexus 7 - ) and now the OBEX Case for the S4!
To be clear, I’ve owned numerous other cases and products also along the years ranging from inexpensive TPU cases to other “industry leading” fan-favorites. Seidio has met and exceeded my needs and wants each and every case I’ve owned and has proven time and time again why they are good at what they do.
This case is EASILY an A+ Quality device that easily shows what sets Seidio apart from their competitors and shows what happens when ANY company puts their minds towards creating a great product!
Technical Specs
For those who like specs, they can all be found at Seidio’s website (which basically says the following):
This product is not compatible with the Samsung Wireless (Inductive) Charging Cover or the Samsung GALAXY S4 ACTIVE.
Protecting your Samsung GALAXY S4 is not always easy, but Seidio’s OBEX® utilizes advanced technology that not only safeguards your device against drops, but also keeps external elements from damaging your device. This daily use case will protect you from water and accidental coffee spills, inclement weather including rain and snow, and from the dirt and grit of everyday activities.
We have simplified the design to ensure that your GALAXY S4 is protected at the highest level possible in the form of a slim and sleek case that is easy to install and devoid of any loose parts or covers. Our unique tunneling design enables true passage of sound, while the built-in screen protector promotes touch sensitivity and clarity. OBEX® will give you the ultimate protection – anytime, anywhere.
Waterproof
- Case meets the IP68 rating, signifying that it is both dust-tight and protected against complete, continuous submersion
- Critical points of entry are blocked by a two-stage protection system
- Anti-reflection glass protects the camera lens without interfering with photo quality
- Water proof membranes shield the microphones and speakers while maintaining with sound quality
Drop Protection
- Exceeds the MIL-STD-810F standard and can survive drops from up to 6 feet
- Internal structure is designed to protect your Samsung GALAXY S4 in the event that it is dropped or compressed
- Combination of Polycarbonate (PC) and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) materials provides protection from impact
- Raised edges on the case and the 4H hardness rated screen protector create a barrier from external elements
Everyday Protection
- Designed so your Samsung GALAXY S4 remains fully functional for daily use
- Easy installation of only two parts creates a unibody design and eliminates the worry of loose pieces after case assembly
- Soft rubber stoppers keep dust and liquids out of headphone and USB ports while still allowing easy access in dry conditions
- Case will not interfere with radio signals, Bluetooth, IR Blaster, or NFC (Near Field Communication)

Additionally, Seidio says that the OBEX case “exceeds the stringent requirements for both IP68 and MIL-STD-810F certifications.”
More information at http://www.seidio.com/document/IP68.pdf and http://www.seidio.com/document/MIL-STD-810F.pdf.
In other words, regarding IP68 certification, the OBEX case is the highest level of contact protection (rated 6 - Dust Tight) and the highest level of protection against liquid and moisture (rated 8 - Completed and continuous submersion in water for up to two meters for 30 minutes). As far as MIL-STD-810F certifications… it’s a 529 page document. I can’t even pretend that I’ve read it all or understand it. Needless to say, from what I have read, it appears to be pretty intense testing!

Honestly, no one cares what the packaging looks like as long as it’s not a ziplock bag (it’s not by the way). Packing was professional and well done. Included in the packaging I received a waterproof 3.5mm Male to 3.5mm Female Audio Adapter (which I have not tested), the OBEX case for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and a belt holster (optional).
I had no idea what to expect when I received the case. Would it be huge and bulky or reasonably sized? Would I hate it and send it back immediately or would I give it a fair shake-down? Initial impressions really didn’t sway my mind one way or another. It all had to come down to testing. Regardless though, this surely HAS to be better than running in the rain with my phone in a ziplock bag, right?
OBEX Case Impressions
The $1,000,000 question: Is it REALLY waterproof to the specs that they listed and will it keep my device dry? YES IT WILL!!!
Initial waterproof test:
Dunk Test!
But… before we get that far, let’s cover some details.
For some unknown reason, Seidio decided to put the instruction manual for the device INSIDE of the case. So the only way to know how to open the case is to risk breaking your expensive new waterproof case in hopes of not damaging it (luckily I didn’t damage it), try to find directions online or ask Seidio for help. I did all three.
STOP!!! Before installing - Check these two links!!!
Here is some useful information I found on this:
THIS VIDEO and the installation manual found HERE.
Those who are familiar with Seidio’s signature soft-touch texture on the case will NOT find it here. This case does not have the soft-touch that we know and love and is more of a generic plastic feel. The colored sides are a rubbery-plastic material that offers a grippy texture.
All ports are clearly accessible (once ports are opened), the power and volume buttons are crisp and responsive. All phone calls reported that voice was clear and understandable and sounded the same regardless of if the case was installed or not. Additionally, playing music through the phone while the case is installed sounds perfectly ok and does not appear to add any muffling regardless of if the phone is placed screen up or screen down!
The camera and flash feature anti-reflective glass coverings that do not interfere with camera or flash functionality!
The headphone jack is accessible by a rubber plug that plugs into the top of the phone and also is attached to the case. As mentioned, the device comes with a waterproof jack but for the number of times I’ve caught my headphone cable on something and yanked it out of the phone, I’m not sure if I would even consider using this in a water-prone situation.
The top and bottom clips were somewhat of a pain to pry open but having done them a few times now, they DO get easier to do and still hold firm. Long term use will prove more valuable for how well these hold up.
The screen is dimmer and less clear than with a glass screen protector or with a naked screen. Such is to be expected with a case/screen protector like this. As you know, you don’t purchase a case like this just so you can have the clearest screen possible. You purchase this case to keep your device as safe as possible in as many preventable situations (such as snorkeling) and unpreventable situations (such as sudden dust or rain storms) as possible.
Note: While the case DOES fit with a glass screen protector installed on the phone, the touch response is garbage. I would advise using the case with ONLY the screen protector built into the case. Additionally, for those that have the aluminum home buttons installed, they will need removed also to ensure proper “clicking” of the home button. I cannot comment on film screen protectors.
OBEX Holster Impressions
The holster for the OBEX case is pretty straightforward and similar to the holster for other devices. This is, without a doubt, a MUST HAVE for anyone looking for a belt holster. There are a few improvements and differences with this holster that I haven’t seen (or have been redesigned) in previous models.
The Holster can hold the OBEX case in a “screen in” or a “screen out” position. Both positions leave the headphone jack accessible. NEITHER position allows the charging port to be accessed (though I’m hoping that Seidio considers a redesign for this as I feel it is clearly an oversight).
The first and most notable difference is on the center of the holster where there is a sliding switch that slides to a locked/unlocked position. This is actually an excellent idea as it allows the holster to become a modular unit! This lock secures the physical belt clip to the holster unit. This allows not only broken clips to be replaced but also allows for expansion to products such as car mounts and other accessories. Judging by the instruction manual linked above, there appears to be products in the works for this. My ONLY suggestion/complaint on this is that a car mount is significantly more useful if you can charge the device while you are using it (such as GPS on long trips); not being able to charge the device while it’s hooked to the holster is something I feel needs to be addressed.
The second difference is the return of a locking, spring loaded latch to secure the OBEX case in the holster! Oh how I’ve missed this feature on my past few devices. For those who are familiar with the locking latch, this is a new and improved version that is much easier to work and is more secure. For those who are not familiar with the locking latch, this version has a textured plate that slides up to the top of the device to hold the latch in the locked position and slides down to toward the bottom of the device to allow the latch to spring open/closed when inserting or removing the device from the holster.
Other than the singular flaw with being able to charge the device while in the holster, it’s a PERFECT holster in my opinion!
Cost
There is no beating around the bush with this one. This is one EXPENSIVE case! But, those of us who aren’t on a carrier that offers the S4 Active and would like some kind of additional dust/water/drop protection now have a great option to chose from! It is, undoubtedly, well worth the money.
Seidio sells the OBEX case on their website for $79.95 in black (with red or grey stripe) or white (pink or grey stripe) at the date of this review.

The OBEX case and Holster combo is an additional $10 dollars with the same options for the case.

Nice review.
I would add the case works fine with a "film" screen protector. Touch response is still great. However, I would spend plenty of time getting it spotless (fingerprint and smudge free) before putting it in the case because it will show if you do not.
Good review. But I wouldn't say a glass protector fits all that well. It does but the case is hard to close, the seems at the ends don't sit flush and feels as if it may pop open from the pressure. I ripped my iloome glass off, watching it crack as I did. I wish they made this case with a glass protector.

Great review as usual by Kelmar! You beat me to it
Since I don't want to duplicate the main info already posted in the original review, let me add some of my own comments and a lots of more pictures
First of all, this is probably one of the most anticipated S4 cases. Period! I remember drooling over OBEX S3 case in hopes they will release it for Note 2, but it never happened due to s-pen compatibility issues. Now, being able to test this case with S4 makes me very sad because I no longer have my Verizon S4 review phone and have to use a display model of S4. Let me just tell you - this is the first case that actually makes me want to buy the phone just so I can use it with OBEX. A lot of you who are familiar with my work in both XDA and AF know that I have reviewed a ton of cases, and I can tell you this one is a pure quality crafted to withstand anything from water to impact or dust or snow. It doesn't just meets but actually exceeds both IPX68 rating and MIL-STD-810F test, all independently tested by NAC. This is not just a vendor claim, they can actually confirm that with independent test results.
I wasn't able to test it with a working phone, but I can tell you I was very impressed with a built-in 4H rated screen protector and the clarity of the image. Don't want to mention names *cough* otterbox *cough*, but other companies should take notes how it supposed to be done. I also done some research looking through a number of other review videos talking about how impressive S4 speaker sounds under the water while submerged. You can clearly see a lot of work went into design of that protective sound membrane.
For my water test, I used pool test strips since those will change color once in contact with moisture. In my last picture I actually showed how those colors look if moisture gets inside on that test strip. The case strayed dry without any problem.
Furthermore, I also would like to mention how lightweight the case is. Weighting only 2 ounces (56 grams) its featherlight and with overall dimension of 6" x 3 1/3 " x 1/2 " (150mm x 80 mm x 13 mm) it hardly adds any bulk, For something that offers such an amazing protection, hardly adding any bulk or increasing the weight is very impressive.
Also, the holster is very similar in design to CONVERT holster, and with OBEX S4 case you can actually place the phone facing out thus tilt it on a surface to use like a kickstand. That comes very useful.
The only comment I have is because you can't use wireless charging, you will have to open and close micro-usb port quite often which can add to some wear/tear but with everything covered under warranty - you should have piece of mind. Another comment is that back of the case is a bit on a slippery side, although when you place it on a flat surface you have 2 rubber bumps at each end that create friction with a surface to prevent it from sliding. The rubber material on the side of the case will give you an additional grip, although I would prefer to have back of the case less slippery. But then you can also argue that case is drop and water resistant, so what the heck!
Here are the pictures:

Does s-beam and nfc still work with this case as I bump pics alot?

So mine is waiting for me at work so won't have until tomorrow, but my questions is are you sure it won't work with wireless charging, since I just have the coils behind my back plate almost every case fits, just wondering, guess i will find out tomorrow. M main concern is it will put pressure on it and create a crack, I'll let you know what happens.

[VIDEO] Seidio Obex Galaxy S4 Review Installation Water Sound NFC Test
The guys who previously posted their reviews did a great job and so I am just going to post a video I made for the Obex.
In the video I did a water, sound and NFC test. It also covers the unboxing, installation and my thoughts on the case.

I can't accurately answer that question. I got the holster combo. You can get the combo setup or just the case. All I can say is this is package I got.

Mine (holster combo) came with the pen/stylus and decal also. No idea what determines if it's included though (maybe leftover promo items placed in the first few boxes?).

Thanks. Want the case but I'm a case hoard. I spent that much on the element eclipse case too!

You mean, do we need...? Are there any other detailed review threads about S4 OBEX on the forum? To my knowledge case was released only now. If so, admins are welcome to combine all threads together.

Well there is another thread on this forum about the case with pics. The case was released last week. I have had mine since last week. All the pre orders are getting them this week.
Great reviews guys. Are you getting any oil slicks on your screens like the Lifeproof cases are known for? I am tempted to pull the trigger on one of these cases but if it oils slicks like a lifeproof, I will pass. Thanks.

I ordered the holster combo and did not get the decal or pen. So maybe it was just a promo / supply type of thing. I am still happy with the case and holster though.

I'd say we did. This is now the "official" review thread.
All the other threads we just talks, speculations and release info.

I'll give a whole days worth of use and snap some pics for you. I have kids too and their hands are worse than mine lol and they handle the phone at times.
Ease of removal?
I currently run with the Otterbox reflex which offers pretty poor protection (LCD somehow cracked in my pocket WITH reflex case on), but I use the case because I have to switch out batteries frequently. How much of a pain is it to do with this case, and like the Defender case does repeated removal cause the case to become loose (due to the rubber stretching). Thank you.

REVIEW: OBLIQ Flex Pro / textured TPU case

Pros
- Cut outs are perfect
- Doesn't interfere with spigen glass protector
- Keeps design cues from factory back
- Fair amount of grip and protection
- Texture on the sides is a plus
- Fingerprint reader works after recalibration...most of the time, as with most cases.
Cons
- Would prefer a softer/more rubber like material. It's a little harder than some tpu cases I've used.
- No amazon prime sellers.
Overall, it's a keeper.

I have this case and love it - it doesn't add bulk to the phone (which is great on such a large phone already).
A+ from me.
Just bought one. I'm just waiting for it to get here

I agree on the con about no amazon fulfillment.
Obliq uses DHL shipping who transfers to USPS.
I had delivery issue, and Obliq's response was they have to trust their carrier. They offered me a 50% discount if I ordered again.
Amazon, would of just apologized and sent out another on at no cost to me.
Other than that, great case.
Got mine from eBay...bought on 11/05 got it today. Ridiculous

After having prime for years, I despise ordering from anywhere else. Spoiled I guess.

Same here.. They said my case got lost somewhere during the shipping process. It's almost a month now since I ordered it. I was going back and forth emailing customer service. Finally they shipped a replacement November 24. Hopefully getting it next week.

Would have been better IMO if they had beveled the edges inside the 'ring' around the control buttons/camera/flash/laser assembly on the back. Most cases do that in my experience, I know the "fake" SlimArmor case I just got for my Stylo does that and it's greatly appreciated in the overall design (the real SlimArmor does it, of course). If they had beveled it down over about 1/8" that would have been pretty awesome on this Flex Pro case but it does look nice overall, might have to be something I'll consider if I get a V10 myself.
Order mine from eBay on 26 Nov...until today not yet receive it...

Not a fan of beveled edges personally since with the square pattern already introduced with the textured back...it would be too busy looking. The obliq design aesthetic is perfect imo in keeping with the phones original industrial modern rugged classy design intent.
I personally think that most of the cases designed overseas aren't the best looking and cheapen the look of most phones.

I have 5 cases (including 2 different Spigen) & this ones is hands down the best case available IMHO.

I hope you understand that what I mean by making the area around the volume/power buttons beveled means it's sloped inward and down to make it easier to access the buttons - it has nothing to do with any other aspects of the case itself, just that one area, beveled inward towards the volume/power buttons so the fingertips can reach the buttons as well as the fingerprint reader easier that a hard edge. Yes I understand exactly what you mean.
Looking at the picture below of the obliq. Non beveled edges are preferred since I believe beveled edges would look distasteful and not look of the proper line thickness when compared to the other line elements of the design. In it's current state, the look is perfectly balanced and edges flow with all lines.
Add to that....If adding beveled edges...they would have to decide to what? The lens/buttons; buttons only; combine all three cutouts into one large beveled cross looking cutout (like what spigen and many others decided)? All the choices would have thrown off the balanced look of design.
Unfortunately, the companies that have implemented beveled edges are forced to include the laser, flash and sensor cutouts into one because of the limited clearance between them and the camera. Look at the picture below.
Here are the issues I have with beveled edges and the issues introduced by them with another case manufacturer that took that route..(1) beveled edges add visual cues that are wider(2x to 3x the thickness) than other lines of phone, (2) 3 cutouts combined into 1make it look like those ugly "tough cases" with huge design elements and (3) the gap between lens and sensors show the oem texture vs the case texture.

I ordered this case from amazon prime. It was listed as prime shipping but took a good 10 days before delivery. Also, finger print scanner will not work for me with case installed. Tried to re-calibrate sensor and can't even get it to do that. The fit is nice and slim but pointless for me if fingerprint scanner does not work.

You're overthinking that in the extremes, seriously.
The point being making the buttons easier to access and manipulate would be possible with a slightly beveled edge around the inner portion of that part of the case, it's not that difficult to grasp. No reason to bevel anything else on the case: not around the flash, not around the laser lens, not even around the camera housing itself, just that one small portion that makes the "U" shape surrounding the power and volume buttons.
If I get this case and a V10 I assure you I'll be taking a razor blade or X-Acto knife or even a scalpel and beveling out that "U" because it'll help.

I know. It's an ocd issue I have with analysis, software design and the review process. My work skills carry over to something simple as a insignificant case review.
By the way, the thought of modding with a scalpel kills me. Haha

To get the fingerprint scanner working be sure your finger makes contact with pad and the metal ring around pad.

I realize that, and no matter how many times I would try, it would not unlock. Take case off and it unlocks. Would not re-calibrate with case on either. I should mention I am on T-Mobile and no update for sensor
