Does anyone know how to completely remove MIUI sound effects? - Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro Questions & Answers

On official MIUI, if you just adjust the volume to 50%-60%, everything is fine.
But once you go above 60%, you can easily hear the bass being cut.
So I tried to remove the sound effects that come with MIUI, I have tried including but not limited to the following
- Remove MiSound APK
- Remove MusicFX APK
- Delete everything in vendor/lib/soundfx and vendor/lib64/soundfx
- Changed audio_effects.conf
- Replaced acdb files from Evolution X to MIUI
I used a Magisk module I made myself to do the above, but to no avail. MIUI still cuts the bass at volumes above 60%.
I know that on AOSP, even with the volume turned up to max, I wouldn't hear any bass cut, but I had to use MIUI. So I wanted to ask anyone here if they know of any sound effects that properly remove all MIUI.
I use google translate, there may be some errors, sorry.

not at all. But someone told me it's strongly related to the kernel, I thought I'd take a look at it later.

JB 4.2.1
Has anyone got either Volume+ or equilizer to work on the latest version of JB?
I can't get any joy from either. I used to be able to ramp up the sliders on equilizer which gave a boost but now there's no difference. A little clue to the fact that something is happening is that in equilizer if I choose the drop down for slider quick settings when I choose maximum I get a momentary volume increase. Momentary being about 1/4 sec.
I'd be interested if anyone has had any luck with either app and if so can you give any details on how you got it to work?

I use Beats. It seems to work for me.
I used to use equalizer but switched to dsp manager a while back which works fine.....
Let me reinstall equalizer to see if it still works.
Are we talking head phones or tab speakers here btw?
EDIT: Well I just tried equalizer and it worked brilliantly! :good: So it is something with you setup. You have enabled it from settings, sound, music effect haven't you?

Yes, music effects has been toggled to equilizer. Hmm, that's interesting - I presume you are on 4.2.1?
Something is obviously overriding it as the quick blip of extra volume I get when using the pull down and setting max sliders. I have set the sounds to play a ding when I do anything so I hear a quick ding in the louder volume then it goes back to original level.
Also I notice you are not on the stock rom so that may have something to do with it.
Not sure what might be causing it. Anyone else can confirm either this works or they experience the same thing?

beats? I'll try that - presume the it's an app called that.
No I'm not on stock But very similar.
There is a noticable increase in volume using equalizer. I'm sure there is a free demo version on the play store for you to try.

Yes I've tried this and what I notice is the opposite. When the sliders are reset to the middle the sound is normal (ie. same as without equilizer loaded) but louder than if I set the sliders to maximum.
As I say when I toggle to maximum there is a quick and much louder momentary sound increase which lasts a fraction of a second before going down to the lower volume.
I'm not sure what to look at as being the problem as there isn't much I have loaded that I can see might affect this. Very strange.
Still I'd be interested in anyone that can confirm a working instance with stock rom.
Edit: I have now tried a number of other equilizers and get the same behaviour so it appears something is resisting any change in settings.

I'm currently running Cromi 4.6.9 but have had this same problem on earlier Cromi versions too, actually for most of this year it seems. Which coincides with this thread saying the 4.2.1 update caused it for many people on various Nexus devices, which is referenced in Equalizer's app description on Google Play.
Equalizer always worked great for me until around then, and I've tried many things like uninstall/reinstall, other boosters including DSP Manager, even did full wipes during this period, but the volume just doesn't boost anymore. I use PowerAmp, and its built-in equalizer boosts the volume just as loud as Equalizer app used to do, which shows it's still possible but only within that app. Btw, I used PowerAmp in the past when Equalizer also worked fine, so I don't think it creates a conflict.
After seeing the above thread, I tested Equalizer on my Nexus 4 phone, which normally needs no volume boosting, with the same result - for a split-second it's louder but then goes to a slightly lower level than you started at, just as on my TF700. To me this indicates it would work correctly, but something else that wasn't there before now dampens it almost immediately.
@sdbags:
If for you it's apparently working correctly with same ROM as me on a TF700, can you think of why it's not for others? Also thanks for your fine work!

[Q] Viper4Android and others - why no better sound on my HTC One XL (AOKP m2)???

Hi,
this is my first thread and I already searched everywhere to get my problem solved. Unfortunately without successso far...
Whatever soundmod I am using, the sound does not change at all on my HTC One XL (evita) with AOKP milestone 2.
First, I tried Viper4Android, installed everything, chose V4A in the sound settings, enabled V4A, chose different IRS files, but whatever I do,
the sound does not change at all, no matter how I change the program's settings. I followed all the installation instructions carefully,
so the program should work fine.
After removing V4A, I tried Noozxoide, installed it, chose it in the settings and enabled it. But there is also no effect on the sound quality at all,
no matter how I adjust the settings in the app.
Lastly, I downloaded some other DSP/equalizer programs like Music Equalizer, but there is no change in the sound when I adjust effects and
settings (enabling, disabling the program does not change anything, all equalizer pre-sets sound identical, extra bass has no effect etc.).
As I use my phone for listening music every day, the sound quality is quite important for me and compared to the Sense with Beats Audio it is
really much much worse.
The sound quality is the only downside compared to the stock rom for me, otherwise I am very happy with AOKP and the rom works very fine.
Does anyone know where the problem might be?
Are there any soundfilters in AOKP that prevent sound mods to work properly?
Any other HTC/AOKP users that have/had similar problems?
Thanks a lot in advance..!

[MOD]Surround Sound for LG G2 [G2/G3/AOSP]

This mod is brought to you by @langeveld024! If you like it, make sure you thank one of his posts as well. I have just tested the mod and modified the volumes to match our device.
Surround Sound/True Stereo MOD for the LG G2
This MOD requires ROOT
What is this?
This is a mod that allows the phone to use the earpiece combined with the loudspeaker to play sounds and music, thus resulting in a surround sound-like effect. The mod is made by editing mixer_paths.xml
Is it safe?
I've been thoroughly testing it on my LG G2 running OptimusG3 1.4.1 and CloudyG3 2.1. I tuned the sound to what I think the earpiece can handle without getting damaged. The earpiece is very clear and produces wonderful sound, but it's not that loud at all.
Other members of this fantastic community have tested the MOD on LiquidSmooth 4.0 (Lollipop) and on Stock LG firmware and reported that it works flawlessly!
Installation instructions
1. MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP - PLEASE! This mod has ONLY been tested on OptimusG3 1.4.1 and not on any other ROM. So please make a nandroid so you can restore your phone in case it goes sour! I may be able to provide a flashable zip in the future, but till then, make a nandroid!
2. Copy your current mixer_paths.xml from /system/etc to somewhere safe then download mixer_paths.xml.
3. Move it to /system/etc and give it 644 permissions. 644 permissions looks like this:
xxo
xoo
xoo
4. Reboot and enjoy surround sound.
General piece of recommendation - Use this mod in conjunction with dorimanx kernel, as dorimanx kernel allows you to tune the loudspeaker volume easily using STweaks. You may need to turn down the volume quite a bit (-10 in STweaks) to avoid the loudspeaker overruling the earpiece. But then you'll really notice the mod!
Test the mod
To test if this works see: Left/Right Stereo Audio/Visual Test.: http://youtu.be/dvqbq_0jZ_U
I don't like this, what do I do?
Just move the original mixer_paths.xml that you copied to somewhere safe back into /system/etc and overwrite the old file. Then reboot.

Works on 802 on miui nice!!
great share, thanks...
reminded me of a classic acid techno track from the 90's
http://youtu.be/-YNW8Azq9TA
btw working nice on cloudy g3 2.1 with dorimanx kernel (stweaks sound settings on a screenshot, i tried to equalize both "speakers" as much as possible)
as you can see, main speaker gain is at its lowest setting (-10 vol)
btw do you think this mod will somehow affect in-call volumes? (mic & speaker)
btw i hope @dorimanx can somehow include this mod in stweaks as well...
only downside to this is that i mostly rotate my device 90ccw so left and right channels are switched but no biggie...
and i wouldn't call this "surround". something like "true stereo" would be closer
i tried a few sound tests on youtube and it really sounds better with this mod... music as well...
yeah cool mod, only downside the difference between the two speakers. The small one distorts easily, but indeed stweaks can help with that.

Thanks for the nice feedback.
I forgot to add to add that to the OP, as I use the exact same settings as you do in STweaks.
This mod shouldn't affect in call volume since it's made by copying headphone path into the speaker path and using the earpiece, so the earpiece only lines are left untouched.
I also rotate my device 90 degrees ccw and when I do that, my left speaker is the earpiece and right speaker is the loudspeaker. It might be different between cloudyG3 and optimusg3.
I really want some feedback from people who are using stock based ROMS.
-as for the loudspeaker volume, it's a thing that I need to consider. If I turn it down too low to achieve 'true stereo' i think people will complain that their overall sound is too low. And if I don't only people with dorimanx kernel will be able to tune the volume easily.
Then just suggest everyone should install dorimanx, simple as that

i'd always give my vote to clearer, better sound than giving it to a louder sound...
even though - the sound isn't that low with those settings (-10) it somehow just feels right now...

That's exactly my experience as well! So I think it's safe to say that this mod works for G3 based roms but for optimal sound quality, you need to use dorimanx kernel and turn down speaker volume to -10.

Everyone know Dolby and v4a working in CM13.
Flashed this mod with DD+ and it made everything sound garbled without even turning the mods on. All apps seem to work, including Sony player but results are horrible, something is broken there.
Oxygen OS 2.2.0 with Boeffla kernel
Edit: even bigger disappointment is finding out that V4A does not work on OOS. Damn!

I have tried this one three different custom CM13's so far and the Divine Equalizer has worked on none of them. I can get V4A working, but only if I install it using the "LoliViper" ZIP. Is there a fix OP or am I just screwed?
@Rub It is maybe you need to change selinux to permissive instead of enforcing?

Just tried it on CyanOxy and yes, short answer would be that it works but results aren't so impressive. Distortions creep in, while bass was lacking before this now is overblown and I can't find a way to tone it down effectively. V4A is hidden somewhere in there but installing regular app doesn't seem to work for adjusting, parallel to that there is so much sound processing that it is insane. Divine eq doesn't respond, two music players also fall apart when skipping songs. Not good. Maybe on some other phone or ROM... so for now, nandroid back and use just clean V4A. Although even that worked better on CM13
New v7.00 seems to work, and also has new approach - base zip with addons and/or apps separately :good:
Nope. Bluetooth is gone after flashing. Sound seems to be better than before flashing it, but with V4A turned off. Turning it on just ruins everything, so there is again too much processing out of users control.
Dolby Atmos is only other visible app and it just has to be turned off or crackling and distortions go over everything
Also volume control is broken, full volume is about on half of the scale, with horrible distortions, then it tones down and going louder again, only with more horrible distortions. Ugh.
Sent from my ONE A2003 using Tapatalk
Any way (.zip) to uninstall the Viper ?
Its pain in $$a to restore the ROM from TWRP
Viper is no problem but all other libs and changes are impossible to remove. Always backup before flashing this kind of stuff, then restore takes only a minute

I'm running H2OS 6.0.1 (V1.4.0) Firmware Version ONE A2005_24_160513 and it's working for me.
All I did was set SELinuxMod to Permissive using the SELinuxModeChanger app and used the Dolby Atmos Remover zip to remove DA mod. Working great with my headphones but haven't tried bluetooth audio yet, which is when I use my phone for music most...
Backup data first!
worst thing to flash. broke both my speaker and headphones. worst sound mod ever madhe.
Yup.
Problem with bad audio was on first OOS3 beta and later it was fixed, and with Dirac HD (whatever that is, sound is ok) on final OOS or V4A (which still plays funny with bluetooth, needs user fixing) - I don't see the point of these mods. They just create more problems, and do sound processing without any user control and cannot be turned off. That is just nasty.
Anyway, it is impossible to make it sound better with some software mods, it is just an illusion. We need better hardware, better DAC, better amplifier to really get better sound. Using OTG, or maybe just in-line headphone amp from FiiO or something similar. Short of that, V4A is more than enough for some tweaks.

[ROOT][MOD] Xperia X Performance Volume Boost for stock config

What's bugging me about my brand new Xperia X? The overall low volume.
These simple tweaks, this mod if you may, simply modifies a few lines from the stock audio config files which, after a reboot make your speakers louder and headphones, a bit too loud (but I didn't hear anyone complaining about Xperias for being too loud lol)!
It's for rooted users only and for me it sounds a lot better than using (possibly) unstable sound mods instead of simply adjusting the volume on some pretty decent stock drivers.
***Tested on X Performance running Nougat. I've also got my hands on Xperia X Performance files which are pretty straight FWD see attach. Thanks @bkk99213 for testing and for the file!***
Make a backup first or if you didn't simply put the original values back (82 for speaker lines and 76 for headphones). All that can happen if you modify the wrong thing is: Your settings won't do anything or you'll have no sound, that's why a backup is ideal.
Features:
Louder Stereo Speaker sound system wide;
Louder Headphone sound;
Stereo Voice-Speaker call - NOT TESTED! Keep a backup and please let me know if it's working;
Customizable as you see fit! Just stick to the already explored options.
Conflict-free tweaks - no additional files added, no nothing, just some modified lines - you can trust it .
Installation:
By flashing the .zip on recovery or with FLASHFIRE [press the red "+" button > Flash ZIP or OTA > leave the options as they are and Click on the "done arrow thingy".
Manually copying the file to /etc - DO NOT forget to set the right permissions (RW R R). Please take a look over the Permissions.png screenshot in case you don't know how to set them - you long click on the file, then go to properties and you'll see the permissions button.
Do it yourself - there's a guide down bellow.
In the download section you'll find:
>>Flashable! already modified "Xperia X P Getting Loud.zip" with: SPEAKER values - 84 for both RX7/RX8 and HEADPHONE values - 84 for RX1/RX2.
>>Flashable! Stock Values - it's the stock file unmodified.
>>NON-Flashable! zips - there you have 1 zip for the modified file and the stock one so you can place it manually via ES file explorer or the explorer of your choosing.
**And some screenshots that are pretty self explanatory showing you what modifications need to be made if you want to do it yourself.
DIY Guide (using ES File Explorer):
You're probably acquainted with ES File Explorer so it should be pretty simple. The modifications I made were done with ES (it has an built-in editor).
1. Make sure the Root Explorer toggle is On - it's located in the Tools tab as you swipe the left side of the screen;
2. Go to the root of the files where you'll see folders such as "data; dev; firmware; storage; system; etc" go to "etc" folder and scroll down till you see the mixer_paths files;
3. Open "mixer_paths_tasha" and at the prompt, select ES Note Editor - it's a huge file so tap right above the navigation bar! A bar with percentage should show up - it will help you navigate through the file;
4.1 Speakers - Get to 45% of the file where you should see the path for "speaker", ctrl name RX7 and RX8 with their stock values - modify the values as you please but please don't go over 85 - sound will be too distorted;
4.2 Headphones - Go to 57% of the file - you'll see "headphones" path - ctrl name RX1 and RX2 - modify the values but anything more than 84 might be too much.
5. Save and reboot. If you choose to modify the files on a PC make sure to set the permissions when you put the file back. Otherwise bootloops might occur.
*Stereo Voice-Speaker call is untested but in theory it should work, as it does on my Xperia X. I added the second channel to the routing - screenshot bellow.
**Stereo Ringtone-Speaker - WIP. I'm currently stuck so feel free to jump in and notify me via PM.
***Internal players such as Music, Video, ringing and notification will try to compensate the sound so it might not be as loud as expected. But try a youtube video and you'll notice the difference.
***Do not attempt to modify something else unless you know what you're doing - on that note, make a backup first. In my first attempts I lost sound device wide with FC for sound effects apk.
***Do not go over the values I imputed (84 for speaker and 85 for headphone) - apart from the distortions that will occur because of the louder volume the internal DAC might not be able to reproduce the sound at such intensity - in my tests one of the speakers was shutting down. Again, no harm can come to your device but don't push it.
***I saw a lot of sections for hi-res headphones, Noise cancelling, etc - I did not explore those options because I don't have the means to test it. Any input and contributions from you guys are most welcome.
These files control the volume output for digital / analog which means it's a non-intrusive way to change volumes with no harm for the device. If volume limit exceeds the capacity of the speakers it will sound bad but there is no chance for physical damage.
I'm coming from a highly modded Xperia Z (that phone saw some torture) which made use of the earpiece speaker for stereo, and even if the speakers aren't designed for that output they are louder than the X which packs pretty decent speakers. This is the mod that gave me the idea: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/themes-apps/mod-stereomod-xz-v1-1-t2835995

Yes that's why it's a guide-ish. Files are different still... Traditionally with Sony, you should aim for the largest file. In your case the right file should be "...tasha" file. If you want you can send it to me or try it yourself. Keep a backup. I had no bootloops (so there's nothing to fear) by modifying what I shouldn't (and i had a dozen of tries). All that can happen if you modify the wrong thing is: Your settings won't do anything or you'll have no sound, that's why a backup is ideal. PM me. I'm curious about the file and results.

It's simpler than it was on my X. I'll be back with an update. But I need my coffee first ))
Tested. It work. Whatsapp's Ringtone is obviously but some notification sound get distorted.
So I don't know the setting(84) is correct or not.

That's device specific. On my X 84 is just the right amount. I'll make another zip with 83 values. That's only one step over stock.
At least headphones are loud and distortion free. I noticed some good amplification on those. On my old Xperia Z I could never have such a powerful sound without signal cutting off on one of the channels.
Correction. The file had 85 for speakers. I'll put new zips with 84 soon.

So glad I was able to help. You're welcome!
After tested 5 days, I get some trouble that my phone call's volume is lower than before.
But the settings should be no change for phone call, right?
* I have not much phone call, so I can't find this problem @ 1st day.
Thanks for your help again.
Does anyone know which xml would need to be modified for this to work on the X Compact?

It's usually the largest one. So you should look for that. And then adapt this method to the X. Speakers might be with a different name buy you'll get it

Looks like it's mixer_paths_wcd9335.xml at 148.6KB. Both RX7 and RX8 are at 82 stock (under path name="wsa-speaker"). How much past the original values are you pushing these things, 2-3? Do these values boost the in-call speakerphone volume as well?
Unrelated, does anyone know if this XML has anything that could be modified to get get both speakers working when using the in-call speakerphone?

I am pretty sure both X and X compact use the same HW - it seems to be the same file and wsa thingy - check my thread for X - https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-x/themes/xperia-x-mixerpaths-volume-tweaks-tank-t3525691
it is possible to modify the call speaker - and there are more things to add like stereo for that one. But going over default for one speaker can get voice distorted. And if stereo is applied there, than microphone quality will drop a lot. There's a reason why the call speaker is mono - so that the mic on the other side can catch most of the sounds. At some point maybe I'll look for a hook for stereo.

These modifications can't affect the phone call volume since I never touched those. And I never had such issues. But I'll keep my ear close to it )

Awesome! Bumped the speaker and headphone values up to 86 and 85 and all I can say is wow! Made a huge difference!
Do you know which lines specifically control the in-call speaker volume? Makes sense about the mono audio/mic pick-up, however it'd be great to at least increase the volume.

Adding stereo speaker to phone call is a bit tricky as far as I remember, especially without a recovery. Hopefully I'll have some spare time to look over it or at least identify call routing.

Would it be easier to just increase the in-call volume and leave it mono? I'm guessing that there is a similar RX line that can be bumped up a few values to increase the volume.
Under <path name="voice-speaker"> there is a line <ctl name="RX8 Digital Volume" value="82" />. I'm guessing that may be it?

yup, that should be it. I'm advocating for the stereo because stock values already distort a lot on speaker call
[Update] - stereo call speaker now working. Testing and applying method for ringtone speaker aswell

[UPDATE] Please check the updated thread for Xperia X. For you, modifications should be easier to learn from there. Stereo Voice-Speaker added - no need for volume boost. https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-x/themes/xperia-x-mixerpaths-volume-tweaks-tank-t3525691
