Question [Solved] Unlock 5G on Korean model SM-S908N in UK - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Hello everyone, so I got the Korean version of S22 Ultra, and I cannot enable 5G here in the UK, but the N78 band is supported by the Korean version S22 Ultra, and all the carriers in the UK are using N78 (I have tried both O2 and Three, and I cannot enable 5G on either of them).
I then saw this post [Philippines]SM-N9860 TGY/BRI/CHC Snapdragon Users|5G Reception Fix, and I've tried to enter the secret code *#0808#, but the phone does not react to it, so I guess something strange is going on. Also, I've tried this method, which is not working, too.
Oh, and I just want to mention that the S21 Ultra I brought in China can enable 5G on Three's network, but not on O2. This is just confusing. Could anyone help me to enable 5G on this model? Thanks.

Have you tried on of those Android apps that check your network speed connection? it might just be that you're getting 5G speed but the icon is not showing due to your CSC.

Hi, thanks for the reply. No, I don't think so, because the download speed is significantly lower (500m vs 10-50m), as well as the latency. Also, "SIM card status" in the setting showed that the "Mobile data network type" is "LTE" instead of "NR NSA" (or SA, but there's no SA in UK as far as I know).

And even 4G (LTE) signal is weaker on the newer S22 Ultra model, does this have something to do with the frequency band as well?

Did you try that method listed in the guide with the Google phone dialer?
Also this might seem dumb but in Mobile Networks, is Network mode set to 5g?

Yes, I've tried both methods for One UI 3.0 and 4.0, and the secret code is just not working. I suspect that Samsung either changed the code or prevented it from running on the Korean model (since I saw one website claimed that those secret codes do work on S22 Ultra). And yes, 5G is enabled in the "Network mode" setting.

Only thing left I think of suggesting is maybe flashing a different CSC (a compatible one) to see if it works.

See Post #2 and #3 for the Links to the Firmware All of the firmware posted here can be flashed on any U or U1 Device. Each of the firmware's are NOT carrier dependent and only has carrier labels listed in order to have an idea if you might get...

Thanks, I will look it up, but I hope/think there will be an easier method out there that are less risky than flashing CSC. Have a great day!

Yeah sorry it's not working out so far. But imo your best bet will be to back up your phone and change csc, though you can change CSC without losing data by not flashing the Home_CSC file I think. Great day! hope you fix it.

I'm in UK and after years away from xda,I've come here as a last resort,my 5g doesn't work also, when selecting network to 5g/4g,I get no signal,1 bar if I'm lucky, calls don't come through, then WiFi calling kicks in,so at the min,my temporary solution is the network is set to 3g/2g,I tried your mentioned code, screenshot shows what I get

Ok folks, here's what I found yesterday. Using the app called "Cellular-z", it appears that both my Korean version S22U and Chinese version S21U support 5G in the UK, sort of.
But they do not support N78 (or there's no N78 coverage/ the wall is too thick in my home etc), the only 5G NR bands they support is N1 (and N3? Although it feels more like an LTE+ band).
When switching on 5G in the control panel, both phones are using the 5G network, however, only the Chinese version phone shows the 5G icon. The Korean version does not. But the speed is significantly faster on both phone when 5G are enabled. It boosts from 50Mbps to 450-500Mbps in my home (But the latency is similar whether 5G is enabled, maybe because it's not using N78 or the wall is too thick).
I suspect the Korean version S22U only think N78 is the ''true 5G''.

Do they run at same speed? I have same issue here in mx, i have the us version (sm-s908u1) that apparently does not support the n78

Yes, they both have a download speed ~450Mbps, and latency ~25ms, which is what you expected from N1. N78 is not supported by both versions (or there is no coverage in my area, which I highly doubt that).

No issues using EE in UK. This pictures are from EH16 Edinburgh UK.
5G reception as good as on other 5G phones, didn't do any tricks or hacks, just works out of the box.

Same issue, I hope someone can solve this.

did someone found a solution to this? same issue with us version U U1. 5G doesn't appear. also tried to flash firmware with bootloader 2 (AVDC) but no luck. Google dialer method wont workanymore on oneui 4.0 i think.

I have this same issue with my s21+ SM-G996N, supposedly supports n78 bands (5G) but is stuck on LTE+ everywhere I go.
What carrier would I have to move to in order for 5g to work? Would it work with EE sims?

5g Bands on Qualcomm X55 modem

I'm curious, since the iphone 12 series is in stores today, it seems that the iphone is using the X55 Qualcomm modem. If I understand correctly, that's the same modem that the Snapdragon Note 20 ultra uses? If so, how come the iphone 12 has so many 5g bands, and the Note 20 ultra is so limited by region? If it's the same modem, why the difference?
If the modems are different, then please ignore my question
What I have noticed is that using the *#272*imei# method and changing it to DSH... I get the exact same amount with the sm-986u1...

This is on the 9860 model?
I'm still curious why apple uses the same modem and has pretty much all worldwide 5g bands covered, and the 9860 has a paltry 3 bands, especially when they're the same modems

Cool, although I'm referring specifically to the 9860 model. Assuming all snapdragon units have the same X55 modem, I don't understand why they don't have the same 5g bands, when Apple has clearly shown that the modem is capable of ALL major 5g bands. Does Samsung specifically gimp the modem?

All the units do have the x55 modem and I am not sure why all the bands aren't available for roaming either. The available bands are controlled by the service mode built into the firmware, then further defined by the CSC. I know here in the US, the CSC controls more than just the 5G band availability as well. I have noticed when using t-mobile while on Verizon CSC, SA 5G won't register any service bars in the corner icon. Also band 41 5g, although enabled, won't connect. And then when using Verizon on Tmobile CSC, 5G n5 won't connect even with DSS and n5 NSA enabled.
It looks like architecture in iPhone is one worldwide firmware that just enables all bands and then available services are further changed by the carrier services from the installed Sim.
I followed this user's notes and I think this did the trick.

After going through that thread, doesn't seem like enabling all bands is possible on the 9860.

New Note 20 Ultra N986U1 / No 5G

Picked up the unlocked version and activate with Verizon 5G sim here in Honolulu HI. Verizon coverage map states my area and pretty much the entire island is covered for 5G nationwide.
I have full LTE+ showing on my phone but after tshoot with Verizon for the last few hours and driving around a couple miles..my indicator has not changed at all to 5G.
Am i interpreting the coverage map wrong when it says all of the island is on 5G nationwide, meaning to me, i should see the 5G network on my phone?
Since i unboxed this device yesterday, it only pulled down one update and nothing new is showing as far as software updates.
Powered off the device a few times along with a network reset and still no 5G..
So far I've found the 5G feature to be the most overhyped, most under developed feature I've seen that was this hyped up in a long while. For the most part at the moment, i find it that unless you're standing on a block containing a 5mm 5G cell tower, 5G as of right now is pretty sparse and mostly useless.

What you can do is use the *#272*<imei number>#
Choose the att csc and choose the option to only change the network code.
I tried this and got 5g for 1.1 sec. What exactly does this do?
You can also enable bands and DSS for verizon nationwide coverage through the service mode menus. I have a n20 ultra with U1 firmware on verizon csc with 5G working.

I attached screenshots of the menus I changed to enable 5G. The DSS menu enables 5G DSS, the LTE band menu enables all the LTE bands and the NR prune menu enables all the 5G bands. I would restore the VZW csc before making any changes. Changing the csc resets any service mode changes made manually. It will also work under any of the csc's selected, but then other things like wifi calling and visual voice-mail are configured for that carrier and don't work right. Also, carrier aggregation combos for lte and 5g produce slower data speeds if you have sales and network codes mismatched to the SIM thats being used.

Was anyone able to enable n78 5G band ?

Was anyone able to use 5G in SM-N986B/DS?

Hi,
I tried multiple CSCs with my SM-N986B/DS and I couldn't use 5G, although I do have an indication in the Status bar (I'm not sure if this a bug, but it doesn't look like the speed was increased or the NR bands are in-use.)
I've wondered if anyone here was able to connect to a 5G network using his SM-N986B/DS?
If so - please write which country, carrier, CSC and Version are you using?
It will help me to diagnose the problem and understand where does the 5G restriction is being done.
Thank you very much.
Hi there
Yes I'm able to connect to 5G with Three UK

I've had the exynos version for about 3 weeks a with tmobile. Haven't connected at 5G at all, mobile says it haS TO BE MY PHONE. 4G is working great but haven't connected LTE even once either..
@redeyedog :
are you using it on t-mobile US ? how is your data service ? 4G on Note exynos phones is same as LTE. i've been using note 8 duos exynos on t-mobile US since 2018, it's struggling & no data service in area where band 71 deployed. i read n20 exynos doesn't have band 71 either but i would like to hear your experience.

I live in a fringe area from the closest 5G UC area but do pick it up from time to time. I have the TMO model and on the TMO firmware I see it and it connects to n41. But when testing out the U1 firmware (same as what your running) I cannot get it to connect to n41 and no 5G UC icon.

If you flash the tmo firmware you'll see the 5G UC icon, but also you'll have tmo bloat.
I'm on unlocked version using TMo and I only see cellular bars, no 5G icon.
I experienced 5GUC for the first time today and had to look it up to see what it was. Pretty fascinating stuff. Interestingly enough, the IPhone 13 Max in my proximity also has 5GUC.
So it seems that U1 does get 5G UC even if it only shows 5G. It seems that only the T-Mobile version will display 5GUC but I did a comparison at a T-Mobile store and consistently got the same or better speed even though my device only displayed 5G. I was getting over 500 MB speed which is definitely UC.
Modem on s22u is much better than fold3 on TMO. All my signal issues are gone on the s22U.
say, learning as fast as I can, been a number of years since flashing phones/tablets.
We have 2 new unlocked s22u from samsung, going to use them on t-mobile.
the thought is to head to the corp store, for sims and to get them working. our current s9 are still with sprint sims.
Also, do I need to flash these to get 5g, wifi calling, or things like that working ?? or just for the proper 5g icons??
I see U1 or mentions of it. does flashing t-mobile get me basicaly a branded unlocked phone ??
the thought unlocked was more to head to spectrum mobile, or another provider, not so much anti bloat. if that makes sense.
sorry to tack extras on to this thread, and thanks very much for your time

Just put your TMO sim in (when you get it), the phone will say that the network provider has changed and will reboot, and everything will just work...
It doesn't shows the icon but gets connected to uc band and has no difference in download speed.

For your needs since you have the unlocked U1 versions, all you need is to pop on the sim cards and you'll get all the features you mentioned above. Your phone will stay unlocked so once you settle in you can move your primary sim to the e-sim slot and use the other physical sim with another carrier for a secondary line when you travel or for business/ other needs..
I am having the same issue as the OP. Had S21 Samsung unlocked from Samsung on Tmobile and showed 5G UC. My S22 ultra unlocked from Samsung only shows 5G. I am getting less speed. On S21 speeds fluctuate between 200-300 down and 90 up. On S22 Ultra 5G only shows 5G icon getting 100-200 down and approximately 30 up.
OP did you flash Tmobile firmware and did it fix anything? I have been back and forth with Tmobile and the rep sent a ticket to engineering saying they have seen some reports of this but Tmobile and Samsung won't officially confirm it and there is an update coming starting today through the next few days **that they claim will fix this.

Was that on a U or U1?
The U1 ROM does not show UC for T-Mobile or UW for Verizon yet. It connects to n41 or n77/mmWave fine, and the display issue will probably be fixed in an update.
You can confirm your UCness via *#0011# (and I wanted a reason to use the pen lol):

In the past 5G in the US was not supported as the international variant of the galaxy series was an exynos modem. However this year with the snapdragon modem will there be a difference?
Has anyone tried to bring a global snapdragon version of the s22 ultra, specifically the S908E/DS to the US and gotten 5G to work? I am thinking of either using AT&T or Google Fi. If you have a better recommendation, I'd love to hear it. Or if it won't work in the US, if someone could clarify why, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all the help!

I see, thanks. So I see some of the bands are supported for 5G with Verizon/Tmobile/AT&T/ etc. Does that mean 5G will partially work, or for that provider to work all of the bands the provider uses must be available?

you can narrow that search down to provider, but you would be best researching the area you will be visiting and which network provider has the best coverage, different carriers use a variety of different bands

Yeah I narrowed it by provider, and as I mentioned the phone has most of the networks, but no mmwave and missing 1 or 2 5G bands, but still has 3-6 bands depending on the provider.

its not the phone missing the band, as such, its just bands are split between devices so as to keep the networks from being overloaded on a single band

Gotcha. In the past I've looked at the 5G coverage map, and pinpointed my location. It says that the area is covered for 5G. At&T's map does not say what bands are covering that area though, it just says 5G. Is there somewhere else you mean I should go?
If it's just there, as I mentioned the s21 ultra that I had last year on the exynos modem didn't work. According to the site you shared, the s22 snapdragon international version has the same bands. So you think it's likely that it won't be supported either, or should I be looking somewhere else?
