So I'm sure that apps have something to do with some of the issues people are having but I noticed that nearly everytime my phone was freezing with the screen off or rebooting it was on WiFi. This last weekend I went to a friends wedding and I used wifi like crazy including wifi calling. I didn't change any apps or software on the phone and although I used it the same way the phone was super stable. It lasted 3 days without a reboot and guess when it finally froze? When I was back at home on my wifi.
My wifi used to be mixed mode n and g. I've now switched to g only to see if that will help since most of the hotel and public wifi spots I was using were g. Speeds are very fast still so I'm not losing out much. I've also noticed battery life better on g only.
I'll test it out for a few days and report back but wanted to share. Anybody else having issues should try either not using wifi at all or switching to a g only network if possible.
Crossing my fingers.
Thats a good theory... I connect to wifi daily, but only g not n.. And I haven't rebooted yet...
Interesting thought. My first one rebooted/locked up and it had nothing to do with wifi. I never even enabled it. It was just a bad evil phone possessed by the devil. My new phone works great with both wifi bands enabled on my linksys wifi router.
For those still having weird stuff happening...swap the thing out!
I hardly use WiFi and my reboots only occurred on the leaked Gingerbread. After the first reboot or "Screen of Death" I cleared all the normal caches and factory settings and kept it "clean".
I had 3 more reboots and it was dead in the morning.
Seeing how CM7 doesn't do this using their own custom kernel, I'm blaming the stock kernel.
I use stock rom, perm rooted, cr4pwares are all removed, applied paul's fix., juice defender balance, screen off setcpu setting. Use wifi most of the time at home, when not at home, only use "4g" only. No reboots nor screen of death yet.

My reboots or freezes usually only happen once a day or less frequently. The fact that my phone froze after finally getting home and worked perfectly while travelling makes me thing its something to my area. It could be the T-Mobile network /radio but I've rebooted a few times while on wifi calling.
Not sure about that theory. I use wifi 90% of the time on N only and have yet to have a reboot since I purchased this device.
Tonight mine rebooted around 7 times while charging it, talking on speaker and browsing. I noticed it was very hot while charging (40c)...I've had the phone since launch and had only one reboot until now.
I think I'm calling tmo tomorrow to swap it.

N only is still different than mixed mode.

I am trying to get my new phone reboots by itself but I couldn't. I tried b,g and n only. They are all the same. My old phone shut off randomly. Hardware issue?
Except the phone is rooted and SIM unlocked, I keep the bloat intact.
My G2x doesn't encounter freezing or reboot after flashed back to stock. No matter wifi is on or not.
Perhaps certain application causes this issue. You have to check it one by one. Probably moving app to SD can be an issue (I keep all apps on application storage).
Could be the MicroSD. Someone needs to test different microsd cards on this phone. I used a Kingston on my old phone that had reboots, but Lexar microsd on the new phone now with no problem. I didn't get reboots until I started using microsd card. When I had auto shut off on my old phone, I could boot up the phone with either microsd or battery pull.

I use Sandisk 32GB (from MT4) and it works fine so far.
Anybody not having reboots use their Bluetooth a lot? Do you leave it on all the time? Do you use stereo Bluetooth?
I just realized the whole time on vacation I never used Bluetooth while I use it a lot here. Maybe another angle.

This is one I've been thinking... Cause I've had no reboots and never used bluetooth once..
I woke up in the middle of the night and this came to me - I have NO idea why!
I had two G2X's with the reboot/freezing issues, both in CM7 and Stock ROMs, with/without 3rd party/market apps. Both have been returned and I am back on a G2 now, but if we can figure this out, I *WILL* be going back to a G2X!
I had never considered one thing that both phones had in common - my MicroSD card. I never tested the phones without the card because it never had occurred to me that might be the issue.
I had in both the same Class 4 Sandisk 16GB MicroSD .
Is anyone else using the same card? Has anyone tested without a MicroSD?
It may not even be the card itself, it may be the reader in the phone!
I'm testing a brand new exchange phone now. Leaving it stock with no software installed by me. No SD card. It already powered down by itself once while charging and required a battery pull.
Brand new, as in brand new brand new, or an actual warranty exchange where they may have sent you a "refurb" that may have been one of the screwed up ones that someone returned?

It's a warranty exchange by mail. So it came just alone with no battery or back cover. It could be a refurb, but it looks brand new to me with all the little teeny weenie plastic stickers on all the buttons just as my original one came as. I think it's too soon for them to have started re-cycling unit for refurb, no?

Not at all, so many people on this forum exchanged their phones that sounds like Tmobile has many exchange phones to give out already.
Hello there,
I would like to know if some other users are having issues with tha pictures and video apps and what solutions if any. I received my nre Z3 and from the very first time I started tu use it I'm having serious issues. The issue is that everytime I turn on the phone's camera the phone turns very hot, it also constantly freezes out and the camera app crashes. It happens for pictures and for videos. I already own a Xperia Z1 device and know how to use the camera and settings and knoe that this is not normal. I tested the camera with the lower screen brightness possible and also with and external SD card with the same results. For worsen the situation, after being taking family pictures for the last 2 days, the pictures and videos started to become not accesible nor visibles. At the moment when the pictures were taken they were visible, but after a while, some of them can't be opened anymore. This firstly happened during the afternoon for some pictures taken during the morning, then later, 3 more. It has continued damaging pictures. Right now the device has did the same to 20 pictures and videos from nearly 50 taken. I rebooted the phone, restarted and also reset the phone and it is still showing the same bahavior. This phone has not been rooted and has been kept as it was when received. I never had these issues before with other phones. It is a D6603, running Kernel version 3.4.0-perf-g0961 cdf, build 23.0.A.2.93. Any fixes or suggestions? Is it real that this unit comes with factory unlocked bootloader? Could it be a software issue regardless hardware?
A couple of things in there immediately hinted me about your SD card, I mean not all your issues seems to be that but about the videos and photos been there and then don't is a symptom of a bad sd card.
Just to see what happens put another card, if you don't have it, just remove it and save everything to your internal storage and try a couple of videos and pictures again to see what happens and let us know.
I highly doubt it comes with an unlocked bootloader, but this does sound like a bad SD card. You could also try using a different camera app, although personally I don't think that will help much.

I tested with and without the use of an external sd card and I'm having the same issues. At least using the phone's internal memory I haven't lost any more pictures for now. I'll test during the day, but the phone's still getting very very hot and the camera freezes and app crashes.

That's exactly what I thought, and the reason I wanted to split your issues in 2, it's easy to relate one to the other and confused about it, but now that you know that are 2 separate things it's easier for you to approach it.
First, your SD card may be one of the thousands of fake 32 or 64 GB generic cards around (and even "Branded" ones, China is getting better by day on that department), they behave just like that, I just got another one of these last week, so don't waste any more time on it, it won't never pass from about 4GB of maximum storage, even when in your computer or phone it shows as a 32/64GB card it will allow storage for up to 4GB and then simply begins giving you all those issues.
About your phone getting warmer or hot while in the Camera App, this is an old issue with Sony Devices, it's more common on hot places like for us down here in the Caribbean, the first day I tried my D6633 it did that, I tried it a couple of times and the same, don't ask me how, but it got better, a lot better, to the point that hasn't happened to me again, only thing I did, as far as I can remember was using the Manual modes, and disabling the AR Effects and Fun Apps, the same 2 that while using them was the first time my phone got hot.
YMMV but it worth a try, obviously if you live in a hot weather place, using the 4k video feature will bring you the warning and it's normal that it will get warmer than when using regular features, but other than that, for me, not even a single occurrence after I disabled the AR stuff.
Hi guys,
I've been a lurker on XDA for quite some time, and I just want to say, I absolutely love you guys. You're all very helpful and so knowledgeable. I can finally say I have an issue, I'm hoping is a software issue only, that I need help with.
Last week I was running Stock Rom Lollipop 5.0.1 on my Google Nexus 5 and now I cannot get a GSM signal AT ALL. No Calls, No SMS, and No Data. The same SIM card can work just fine on my unlocked Nokia Lumia 635. I am long past my RMA. What can I do to try getting the GSM to work and TURN ON MY GSM RADIO? I'm sure if the radio turns on, everything else should work as well.
Brief History: Phone has been dropped on cement before and got Screen replaced. My internal speaker got loose and I just got it readjusted by a nice technician near where I live. I've survived with this phone from Day 1 until now with some cosmetic wear-and-tear, but it was only from last week before I left work, AFTER I UNPLUGGED MY PHONE FROM THE WALL SOCKET that the GSM signal just dropped.... permanently. And what I mean by this is, the "radio" is off permanently (I cannot turn it on even with the option in *#*#INFO#*#* with SIM card inserted) even after reboot, airplane mode on/off, and APN setup (which can never be saved and hangs when selecting automatically 'detecting'). Note: The Phone can charge just fine and connect to the computer perfectly fine as well (in case you guys think it may be related to the microUSB port assembly). I have been taking out my SIM frequently, so I'm still not 100% sure if it is or is not my SIM Card Reader pins that have an issue.
I have fastbooted several factory images on this device many times from the Google factory images repository, mainly going back and forth between 4.4.4 and 5.0.1 which I believe are the best releases so far IMO. Even after installing the factory roms on this phone, (no root) I still get no signal no matter what I do. When I remove my sim card tray from the phone, I get "No SIM Card". When I put it back in, I get that message going away, which gives me the impression the SIM card reader is fine. My technician took a look at the entire phone hardware and said he didn't find ANYTHING strange. He tried using a known working back-cover with antennas to debug the issue but that didn't help. I don't remember what he said about the sim card reader, but I think that was also fine (will double check next week). When I got the phone back from the tech, he just told me that there are no "hardware" issues he knows of, and so this must be "software".
Any leads you can give me? I'm pretty tech savvy, and do understand things like partitions, fastboot, adb, etc, so any solution, even abstract, I'm willing to try. Google reps were pretty clueless on helping me out here, so I'm looking for some support, please!
I've also heard that this issue is not uncommon on Nexus 5. Is this true? How many users have been having this issue? I thought Nexus 5 should have been built great to last a long time... guess I was wrong.

Same situation on my Nexus 5 that started a few days ago. Thought it had something to do with the 5.1 Lollipop update and saw some users were having similar problems. Tried flashing different radios/basebands/roms/kernels to no avail. Currently running 5.0.1
Hoping it is not a hardware problem, going to take it to a local technician today. Also beyond warranty. Everything else works fine. Has always been in a hard case but dropped a couple of times with no prior issues. Any insight?
5.1 is the best software. If it's not hardware all I can suggest is a full factory reset. My SD card was not acessable and pple said try this and that command. No luck. Did a factory reset and got the SD back Oh and screen shots which had gone as well.

I'm still in love with Skyrocket, but some developers and mantainers stop making new buils because feels like there are just a few Skyrocket users out there.
I think it's just because some of us are waiting for a more stable Lollipop release and better compatibility of xposed. But believe me, Skyrocket only needs a little push, and this is the time; I found a repartition thread for Hercules and same method works for Skyrocket, it means less space limitations and more juice to pull out of Skyrocket.
What do you guys think?
I still have the phone but even with a new battery I don't get much life out of it. Especially compared to my HTC One M7. I still have a real fondness for the Skyrocket. I'm running lollipop on it via the Candy ROM and it runs pretty good . In fact I think it runs much better than it ever did compared to when I had it on stock touchwiz.
I see by looking at file host download counts that over 400 downloads for Lollipop.
So a lot still using,I know some may be repeat downloads where they have gotten bad dl's,but still plenty. Just don't know how many developer's are still rocking the skyrocket.
Hope they keep up the builds there doing now . Lollipop is making my SR faster and longer life on battery.
Just bought one to use as a media streamer for summer.
Mine still get use as Ambio / music players. They are incredible devices, and amazingly enough, still reasonable performers. Not flag-ship worthy anymore, but remarkably close to the middle of the pack for mid-grade devices, and much faster than the low-end crap.
If Samsung hadn't gone nuts on locking (and encrypting) the bootloader for AT&T models, I'd still buy their hardware.
yap my beloved skyrocket is still with me as my daily drive
starting to have some problems with it but not something that a 15$ part cant fix
My husband bought me the LG Optimus G (AT&T) as a gift. Ended up returning it.
I like both versions of the S2 (i727 & i777). My husband used the i727 before upgrading. Mine was the i777.
Parts are cheap and phone is way easy to repair. At the moment I am using the i727 because the i777 needs fixed.
I don't need all the bells and whistles of a fancy phone. I have an S5 but its used by the kids.
Still have my skyrocket. I'm running cm11 but really want a stable lollipop rom. But my phone is about dead. it is so slow and laggy i cant figure out how to fix it. ive switched roms and it still remains frustrating slow.
I got my i727 back in 2012, and it's a great phone. My problem is finding a stable AND secure rom (meaning, consistent updates). My favorite for a while was Slim Roms' "Slim Kat"... but they haven't updated it in over a year I believe. I did find a way to increase app space by partitioning using a custom PIT file (someone shared how on these forums). I would be happy to hear rom suggestions, as I am using T-Mobile in the US currently.
Skyrocket going strong still, even after 3 years.
I bought my skyrocket 3 years ago and I still use it with Stock AT&T touchwiz ROM. Battery is new and gives me half a day backup. I love it and the old 4.1.2 interface seems refreshing after seeing tons of lollipop phones with similarly decked out homescreens and notification bars. The big font, the big icons and the bright colours on this phone (Especially with the AMOLED screen) still feel awesome.

That sounds nice! What service provider do you use? I am currently using T-Mobile, so I had to use a different radio to get it working better. Do you happen to know what radio that stock rom comes with, and if it might work for T-mobile? My phone is seriously throwing a fit right now so I gotta get a new rom on there soon.
*Edit* I just used Odin to return my i727 to stock AT&T rom (ATT JB 4.1.2 I727UCMC1 ..) which can be found here on Vincom's sticky under "
3: STOCK FIRMWARES: ODIN FLASHABLE - FULL/COMPLETE/ STOCK", and it seems to run fine as I use my T-Mobile sim card! Running very smoothly right now. Before the AT&T stock rom was updated (back when I got my phone in 2012), I do not recall it even using the signal correctly when I inserted the T-Mobile sim card, so I opted to use custom roms with short-term joy and a lot of pain and suffering in the long-run. Will let you guys know updates as I continue to use it, because long term is the real test of how a rom handles!

I'm on Airtel in India. And the stock ROM comes with UCMC1 radio and it works pretty okay. The ROM is solid now that I've used it for 3 weeks now. There was one occurrence where the phone rebooted when the battery was low and when it came back on it had factory reset itself (That was a pain to bring back everything update). Other than that ROM has been solid.
As far as signal and data is considered, what I found out which worked better is when I installed xposed framework and installed a mod called Intelli3G. If I change the network mode to WCDMA via UltraCfg I used to get 1 bar signal. But when I used to switch network mode via Intelli3G I get 2-3 bars. I don't know why it is like that, but it works.
Why would anyone still be using this phone? It was a piece of crap. Literally the worst purchase decision I have made in my entire life. Nothing but problems.

Still using the original battery after three years? My battery life wasn't very good even when new and was awful after like 6 months getting like 1.5 hours screen on time with like 8 or 9 hours off the charger.
I could see it being a little better with custom ROMs since you wouldn't have to deal with the pathetic TouchWiz but not much and I didn't want to void my warranty and insurance by installing custom ROMs. After the first update it was so slow(even after a factory reset) I missed half my calls because the phone was so slow that the call had went to voicemail before it had registered my swipe to answer.
The build quality sucked too. The phone was creaky and had several gaps between parts. The back cover didn't sit flush with the back of the phone even after replacing the back cover which I did 3 or 4 times during the two years I used the phone because of how easily it scratched and worn out.
It also had issues every few months were it would get stuck in boot loops.
After using that piece of crap for two years I vowed to never get another Samsung phone unless serious changes were made by Samsung.

I have two - my wife and I bought them the same day - and the only issue I have had so far is the power button on the black one going out after 2.5 years. (One of the solder techs at my work replaced it for me.) Otherwise, both have been fantastic devices. They don't creak, the backs go on perfectly, and they still function quite well - even if they are fairly slow compared to my M8. Even the TouchWiz poo that shipped on them was functional - I just prefer CM.
I think you got a lemon.
even though i got mine new i also bought 2 used ones for family members, all 3 are still working great
Hi All,
I am wondering if you can help me troubleshoot my Samsung Galaxy S7. I am open to any suggestion, even installing non-stock firmware or any other ideas you may have.
I bought the phone (on contract) around 5 months ago, For nearly 3 months now the phone has been freezing 5 - 6 times a day, restarting 2 or 3 times a day. It works for a little while, maybe a week after a factory reset. So my brain is telling me its a software issue as a hardware issue would surely be there from the first minute it reinstalls?
There is nothing obvious as to when it freezes, mostly when loading an app, So I imagine some corrupt kernel call. I would have thought a factory reset would have fixed this though but I guess its just reinstalling the same software and if this is corrupt.
Anyway, my provider in the UK or Samsung are not providing me with any suitable options other than we will "repair" it but will not RMA it and you will be without a phone for 2 months or so. well, this is just not good enough to me as when you pay £600 for a device (which even though I havnt paid as of yet, I am contracted to pay) You dont expect it to break after 2 months. Legally all they have to do is offer a "repair". I just know this is going to be more pain than its worth.
If anyone can help me at all with any possible solution, third party firmware to try and what steps I would need. I would appreciate any help.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S7 32GB
Model: SM-G930F
Android: 6.0.1
Kernel: 3.18.14-9113173
I don't know buddy, I would wipe the phone clean, install the newest nougat beta and maybe install only a bunch of apps a day and see when you start having problems, maybe one of them is the cause. But that honestly sounds like a hardware issue. I hope this somewhat helps. Good luck
Same problem here. Its a faulty battery and/or power circuity. There is no software fix for that. Thats why it hangs or reboots while opening apps - that needs more amps to be drawn from the battery. Like loading thumbnails in gallery and so on.

I have tried to reset, still happening, cant install nougat as it freezes as soon as odin recognises it.
I guess I have no choice but to send it to them, I just know I will have problems now for months.
