Hi everyone,
I'm using a rooted nexus 6p with Verizon and just got the frontier s3 last week. I have the watch connected to the phone via Bluetooth. I noticed that whenever I receive a call and I answer it, if I put up the phone to my ear I can hear them but they can't hear me. I figured maybe the s3 is connected, but I don't get any sounds from the watch and if I talk into the watch during the calls, people still can't hear me.
Is there a setting or fix that I'm missing? Thanks.

Sounds weird. Check the settings on the phone. Settings > Bluetooth > click on the paired watch. See what's set for audio/voice calls etc.
How are you answering the call? With the phone itself?

When I check the Bluetooth settings, it says it's paired with the gear s3. Also, 'used for' phone audio and contact sharing are the boxes checked under the gear s3 bt settings.
I don't hear any calls from the watch, just from the phone's speakers.

have the same problem,too.
Hi All,
For the life of me i cannot get this working.
So basically i want to control tracks etc from the Gear S3 watch app, i have confirmed i have changed the app to look at phone and not locally.
It shows the current playing track artwork but is always stuck on "Play" symbol, and clicking pause, skip, achieves nothing.
It just tells me to play song on phone (even though i am)
I get the same issue no matter what app i use on the phone (poweramp, samsung, google music etc)
I have forced closed the music app from the phone, its never worked, any ideas?
I am using Apple airpods as my bluetooth headphones
I have the same exact issue, using the Wi-Fi model on a Note 8. I see the content playing on my watch (YouTube Chromecast and other videos), the titles are correct, but when I press Play, Skip or Rewind, NOTHING happens! I miss this feature from Android Wear so much!
Did you ever find a solution to this or does ANYONE know how to fix this issue please? Thank you!
OK, maybe not a solution, but can anyone confirm they have this issue and it's known?
I can confirm I have the same issue when streaming to my chromecast. I see the content I'm playing but i can't control it (nothing happens when i press the buttons, play, forward, etc...).
I have both Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and Galaxy S7.
Been searching the web but all I see is people who can and cannot do it but I can't find any solutions. I guess it must be a bug since other people claim they can do it.
Please help us!
Ok i found the solution for everyone who has the same problem.
In the Gear Wearables App under "Notfications" and then under "Manage Notifications" i had to enable the music app to send and recieve messages. After that it works perfect.
No Music App Under S3 Notifications

I was really happy to get your fix but when I went into notifications and manage notifications on Galaxy Wearables, there was absolutely no music app to toggle on. Am I missing something??
Thank you for creating this post... now I know that it is possible to control music app on the phone by watch!!!

Did you set the music player to control phone or watch? click on the watch icon in music app then a pop up to allow you to change to phone. The music app on the watch can play music on phone or watch but you have to set it to which you want to use
music app says connect to phone when phone is connected.
its not working nokia 6.1 plus music app says connect to phone when phone is connected. unable to control phone's music app through watch
I have the same issue with my Nokia 6.1 plus. When I play music on phone the background on the watch changes but can't control music through watch.
Talked to Samsung support and they said it is compatibility issue.
I am facing the same problem with my Nokia 8 as well. I'm trying to play music through my watch and it says connect to phone. When I click on connect it says "Couldn't connect. Try again?"
Music controls not working with Nokia
Yep, I have the same issue with my Samsung Galaxy Watch Active and Nokia 8. This is the only real compatibility issue I discovered so far. The Nokia has almost stock Android so I wonder what causes the incompatibility and whether it is likely to be fixed. To my humble opinion the music player is a basic functionality so I hope Samsung or HMD invests in a solution.
Try pairing it through regular Bluetooth settings.

That's not possible. You can only connect using the Samsung Wear app.

Yesterday I bought an SM-R600 running Tizen 3, the music app worked perfectly with my Nokia 8 on Android 9. Today, I updated to Tizen 4 and the music app stopped working. Is ther any way to downgrade my watch?
the music player app on the watch is broken in my opinion because on my nokia 9 i can use the spotify app fine so the phone and watch are working as they should , so now i just use the watch to control spotify , i use my huawei freelace headphones connected to the phone , i just use the headphones to answer calls and control the music if it isnt spotify lol , android need to learn from apple , the way their stuff works together makes android look like such a bodge job
go into the wear app and forget the watch, repair it and itll very likely work. You can also go into the watch's settings and select connect to a new phone
I’m also having Nokia 6.1 plus and having the same issue also. I can see the music cover but cannot control the music player on my watch. It’s sayin to connect via Bluetooth,I tried and it saying it cannot connect. Anyone any solution
Same problem here! Nokia 8.
Hi guys,
I've been searching all over internet a solution to my problem with my Gear S3 frontier and my Nokia 8.
They are paired. I receive all the notifications, calls... Only one thing bother me, it's that I can't control spotify with my watch.
Everytime spotify is launched on my phone , I can see on my watch that my phone is playing something. Even more, I can see the cover of the song on the music app on the watch. Problem is, if I want to skip or pause the music, It's wrritten "please connect to the phone " but they already are connected. It's the same problem with spotify app for the watch.
I've tried factory reset on the Gear S3, I've uninstalled all samsung apps (samsung wearable, gear S plugin...) still the same.
My friend has an S3 classic with a mate 20 pro and it works fine. Plus, when I connect my watch to his phone, I can control spotify !
I pretty sure that it comes from my phone. Do you have any ideas to fix that ?
Thank you very much for your help !

Thx Igorrj, the Spotify app is not available anymore on the galaxy market...weird
Anyone ?
Same problem
I have nokia 7 plus android 9
I cannot controller music from watch
Hi Swat,
With the new Spotify app you can control music with your watch.
Buy only Spotify if you have another music app such as VLC it won't work !
Double up
Same here, Gear S3 with Nokia 8.
Nokia seems to be messing around with bluetooth since Pie. Had issues connecting the two devices for the first time.
Issues with media control (as described above) and issues with re-connecting after bluetooth out of range.
Has anyone solved the problem?
I have some annoying problem using BT im my car (Kia). I'm using Huawei Watch GT2 Pro which works fine.
But when I'm in car and connected to BT car radio, all calls are received to watch, not to car radio. I can switch manually but is very unconfotable. In my previous phone (Huawei P30) there was not such problem...
Years ago I used some BT managing app (with OnePlus) but I can't find it now in Play Store...
Any suggestions?
