Hey everyone!
As we all know version 12 of ColorOS and OxygenOS are soon to be stable for us OP8 series users.
I have been a fan of OxygenOS 11, but it's starting to feel a bit 'stale'. Sure it's fast, but visually it does not feel up to date.
So I was wondering if anyone has experience with both ColorOS12 and OXygenOS12 and could tell us what are the major differences, pros, and cons.
It would be nice to discuss the differences between both so it helps users to choose between the two! Not often that a phone is supported by two iterations of Android
Cheers!

I'm interested in this phone and wondering what custom ROM support may be like for the device? I had a quick look at the pixel 4 and it's not massively supported but I don't really know how recent or popular it is?
I'm currently using a Xiaomi mi9t with pixel experience+. I know the p4a will be similar if not the same minus the additional features added in the pe+ version, which I quite like tbh.
I know it's early days and probably most can't even get their hands on the phone yet but curious what you might expect based on previous pixel devices?
I would also be interested in this. The 4a's "stock" Android is fine, but there are very few customization options. For example, the setting to hide specific Satus Bar icons is available in Settings but greyed out and inaccessible. I would really love to install LineageOS on this device.
As for popularity, the Pixel 4 was expensive and had poor battery life, so I don't think it had many adopters. The 4a on the otherhand is a steal at $350 and in a post-COVID world, I can see many people who need a new device going for the budget option. I really hope this helps us build a large development community
I plan on staying stock for a few weeks, but rooting and flashing roms is a weekly thing for me. I'm sure there will be plenty fairly quickly. Our codename is "sunfish", right? Much better than my current dumpling.
Sent from my OnePlus 5T using XDA Labs
One of the main developers at DU got one, it's a safe bet ROMs will be available
I would be super shocked if this device does not get any rom support as popular as it is. I believe a couple of devs have said they will start developing roms.
Oneplus 8 and Oneplus 8 Pro gets new beta software... What with 8T? Why no beta realese yet?

Why would we get beta builds when we already have Android 11?
There is no beta yet.
Probably one in the pipeline...

New security, new fixes, new improves?

Those are in official releases already. Betas are usually for updating an OS or in Samsung's case the UI. Stuff that takes massive recoding.
IMO this A11 ROM is an alpha build. OP should have released this phone with A10.

Our releases are already Beta lol... 8T is out there only 1 month, be patient, a lot of OTA will be available during the first year for add features/fixes/security your A11 rom
My 8T is running fine...however there appears to be a wide discrepancy between the various versions/builds that are out there in the wild! From my perspective Android 11 is a stable build on the 8T, and has continued to be so through 3 updates...but I can certainly understand how many, many people feel that what they currently have on their phones is a BETA, if not an Alpha build! So what is really going on here? How can my phone run great while so many others are riddled with bugs and we ALL supposedly have the same hardware (less the different RAM and Storage) and the SAME software, and yet have diametrically opposed experiences? What are we all missing here? The only thing I can point to is where these phones are actually being assembled. If my understanding is correct the one sold in India is actually manufactured, or assembled/built in India, and when you go to the OnePlus Community Forum you can read an ENDLESS stream of constant complaints from what I believe are mostly people from India! Is this the main problem here? Is the quality control lacking in India? Are the actual parts being used in India somehow sub-par in their quality? I'm not sure exactly what's going on here but if OnePLus intends to be able to continue selling phones in India, they better get their act together!
Just ordered a Pixel as a backup phone, and I wanna get a headstart and know what the smoothest possible experience is at the moment for our phone.
I don't care what Android version I'm on, don't really use any new features past Android 8. I just want the smoothest experience for the phone.
Should I run the stock Android 7 or 8? Or is the Android 10 update actually smoother on this old device?
Don't mind flashing a custom ROM, but not just to be on a higher Android version or to get more features, only if it's nice and smooth and stable.
Anyone's recommendations or 2 cents is welcomed let me know! I'm excited to tinker with the device.
PE 10 is great choice
If anyone is looking for an answer to this after some trial and error LineageOS 17.1 seems to be the smoothest experience. Android 11 ROMs aren't there yet. Unless you go back to Oreo or Nougat this seems to be the smoothest option. Shoutout Lineage DEVs
So I'm currently used a Note 20 ultra n985f/ds which was previously a Live demo unit but now fully functional on android 10
hI'd appreciate guidelines to upgrade to android 12? . My csc is OXM WWD... looking forward to your help
Also I'd like to know which is better, should I just change my csc so I can receive the push for update via OTA or just follow a guideline for flashing with Odin, thanks in advance
I'd do some research first. Scoped storage and forced encryption are fully active on 11 and 12, not so on 10. It will puke on trusted legacy apps.
Google blames the developers but the bottom line is nothing but trouble. Developers come and go; let's face no one's going to be a beast of burden when there's better things to do.
So far there's been more than a few who went to 12 and want out.
I have two Note 10+'s, one running on Pie, the other 10. The look and run nearly identically except the Q variant has dozens of new small Samsung system apks. Samsung went to great lengths to maintain to UI.
However it runs very well.
That said since both run well, neither will be upgraded. Pie has some advantages over Q; Q may run slightly stronger. Security is not an issue; my current load on the Pie variant will be 2 yo in June with minimal maintenance. It's still snappy and stable.
Rule #1 if an OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission, let it be. If the 12 upgrade will fix bad display or 5G issues on the N20U that might be justification. It could do just the opposite.
Otherwise it may turn out to be just another load of Google hogwash.
A wait and see approach would probably serve you best.

As more upgrade to 12 you'll get the most reliable reviews on various forums. These are users that don't get perks or kickbacks.
There are too many glowing reviews for turds already...
I posted this already on Reddit, but i think its already useful when posted here:
Yo guys,
just felt the need to tell people how much i love LineageOS. I have a Oneplus 8t and OxygenOS was really pissing me off. Since carl pei left, everything was going to be like oppos phones. the software was so bad and laggy, doesnt feel smooth at all and security updates and generell updates was always just bad. I was about to spend 700€ to buy the Pixel 7, but then i thougth about getting a custom rom since i love my 8t referred to the hardware.
First i installed crDroid, but i didn't get any updates at all and there were a few bugs.
So i decided to install LineageOS. And what could i say?
I absolutely love it. My 8t feels so smooth and snappy, so clean stock Android. I didn't like my phone for the last year, but now i absolutely love it. The 8ts hardware is strong, nice CPU, nice 120hz screen and LineageOS just gets the best out of it. It is just a joy to use! And i get always an update on friday and always have the latest security patch.
Its simple, its fast and its reliable. If my phone is supported in the future i can see me using this phone another long time. Thanks for that opportunity Lineage!
