That's likely a Samsung deal. FB comes preinstalled on Unlocked Sammy Devices too. I can't remember if Amazon is or not, since I use Amazon regularly. I'm fairly certain I install Amazon, but it might've been preinstalled.

Just got my TMo model yesterday. FB, Amazon, and the three TMo apps that come pre-installed can all be Uninstaller. It's no big deal. Of all the carriers, TMo is by far the least bloated. Other than the TMo boot screen, this software is indistinguishable from the unlocked version, and is certainly nothing to get upset about.

I deleted the suggested app app.
Again, TMo is the least bloated carrier version.
I always buy the unlocked, but with this phone, the TMo version was $100 cheaper, plus they gave me $800 for my Note 20 Ultra, rather than $700 with the unlocked, and the $50 online activation discount, meant it cost me $250 less than the same phone in the unlocked version. And I can always flash the U1 firmware.
I guess at my age, I just care less and less about sweating the small stuff like an app I can uninstall in 2 seconds.

Yeah same on my S20U there was like 5 different Facebook entries in there but all had to be disabled. Now it's just 1 entry and you can uninstall it if you want.

I agree. If they would just stop with the annoying boot up sound and magenta splash screen, I honestly wouldn't be able to tell the difference between TMo firmware and the U1 firmware.

The issue is AT&T says we will buy it if you lock it to us so we can keep our customers and make it more of a chore to leave our company. Samsung says ok because we want the sales and that's why it's done... Samsung can care less once they sell you the phone what you do with it and they already built ways to know what you did to the phone for warranty returns. (So they can deny the claims that are caused by you not listening.)
If you want to get mad at anyone get mad at AT&T just like verizon they play every trick in the book.

I have heard of that happening from people that buy online but I don't know much about them I believe someone in one of the threads (that was an at&t or samsung source) said they were at&t branded internationals (meaning they were to be sold through at&t for corporate or maybe coverage outside the US?, though I don't know much more because I only stay up to date on the US versions
If you just bought it you might want to check your buying source (example amazon will give you a new phone if you buy the international that's meant to be used with several carriers), if you have owned it for awhile then you're in the same boat as the rest of us.
I don't think the bootloader will ever be unlocked unless..
A law requires them too...
Someone finally finds a exploit (which because less likely as more people switch to newer phones)
They have a security leak like Sony where the key is discovered.

Or at the very least stop the store worker from updating it when you first activate it. When I bought mine she took it out of the box, turned it on and immediately accepted the update notification and installed it after it downloaded when she put the screen protector on..

I would have had I known that AT&T locked their bootloaders. This is the first phone that I have owned that had one, and until I tried to mess around with it I had no idea that one could lock a bootloader.
Sadly, I won't be able to get the Lollipop update unless I want my phone locked down forever because I am one of the few people that is still on the MDL firmware which can use the LOKI bootloader bypass to boot custom ROMs.
I just walked out of my local att store. The theme settings are there unlike on Verizon but the usual flood of bloat apps are all there. It's as bad as a go phone. None would let me Uninstall and several are also unable to be disabled such as the stock Twitter app. I looked at the storage setting and a fresh G4 has over 1.2GB of apps installed with only 21GB free space.
Wait for root. And just kick them out.
Root will do it sure, but for now I'm holding off getting it. If the att model gets root that will be enough for me. Having Google play edition m7 and m8 had just spoiled me to much I guess..
Here is hoping for a root very shortly. I am due for an upgrade and it is either the G4 with root 8 wait for the new Nexus phones. Currently nothing else on the market meets my requirements, that could change of course.

Strange you can't disable twitter. I was able to.
I think the only things I couldn't disable were a couple LG apps. Overall, bloat isn't a big deal for me as long as it isn't using resources or draining battery.

So why did you buy the AT&T version instead of the unlocked version if you hate bloat so much?
I didnt end up getting it, still debating on it. I only tried the demo at the AT%T store, but would think its the same as a retail one. Strange that Twitter gives an error when you select to disable it. Glad thats not the case on a retail model though.
I hate bloat and branding but settled for the ATT version because it was easier to come but and ultimately, more compatible with their network.
Every ATT app can be disabled except for their Address Book and Remote support. Really not that big of a deal.
I do hate that apps like Twitter, Uber, and Amazon get bundled in. I've never used Twitter or Uber and prefer to use Amazon's site.

The international version supports AT&T's LTE bands (2, 4, 5, 17). You will probably lose VoLTE support though.
It also doesn't support band 30, AT&T's new upcoming band. AT&T version does.
Ultimately, I went for what was readily available to me.

It seems although people are able to unlock it and flash to stock firmware, it's still not possible to get stock OTA after all... right? I know I can do everything I want with it as is, but I still prefer a clean system... So if total debloat is not possible, is there an app or anything like Package Disabler for Pixels?

The updates come regularly, but are usually a couple weeks behind the standard update. There is a Verizon specific version of each monthly release... You can see them all on the Google download page. Curious to see how it goes with Android O getting released Monday though... Might be a bigger delay there. We will see.

Sit down for this answer it will knock you off your feet.
They are actually a few hours ahead. Both Google and VZ release on the first Monday of the month late morning. But since VZ is east coast they start dropping sooner.
Also, Google makes the VZ versions so they are available for download from Googles dev site....same time as the plain Google version. And its all different on this phone, the VZ version just has some radio and network changes. There is no bloat in it. You actually get that from VZ when you put the VZ SIM in it. I got it on my Google version when I put the SIM in it.
And its not much, just the basics. MY Verizon, Visual Voicemail. That kind of stuff.

(Revised 3/2/21)
If by now, you haven't received this firmware update from your wireless provider, something is askew and you probably should start looking that. Other than that, if you're not already running on it, you've probably made that choice!
As with all software updates, it's never a bad time to either perform a new backup before commencing with the OTA download, or at least check on what date your showing for the last one (usually, you'll find your handset performs these daily, once every 24 hours). As for me personally, that's my cue to run my backup to my microsd card via the Smartswitch app!
The last friendly reminder I wanted to share witb some of our newcomers that have recently graced us with their presence, is to make certain you're at (or pretty damn close) to 75% charged on your new flagship! The way these new "beasts" we own "bleed-out" our batteries, it's not a bad idea to "up the ante" with the old school rule of having your battery at 50% or more before downloading the update! I saw this same topic mentioned on one of the other forums/channels the other day and thought it was some good advice? Eh, to each his/her own...whatever works for you!

yep, saw that, but you're an Unlocked, Carrier Branded SM-N986U, not SM-N986U1. That's where my confusion came about until I figured it out looking at FOTA!
I know it's no cause for alarm (with samsung, it happens more often than not) but I didn't see a new build # assigned yet for XAA(as if they hadn't started one, but much more likely they just failed to update their system)!
However, for those of you SM-N986U1 users (like myself) seeing this dialog, we could be in for a little longer wait, meaning we may not have Our Update by this coming Monday (3/1), as a few of the websites I saw earlier were speculating!

**ONE UI 3.1 SOFTWARE UPDATE IS HERE!**
I'm on the unlocked SM-N986U1 connected to Verizon and still no update for me. I thought having an unlocked phone straight from Samsung would put me in line to get the updates first, but I guess not. I have bought two notes from Samsung directly over the years because I was under the impression if I bought the phones straight from Sammy I would get more features and faster updates. But as time goes on I see now that the unlocked phones are second class to Sammy. It seem to me like Sammy can't help but stroke off the carriers and bend to what they want.

* I just got this phone 3 days ago *
I have not spoken with any tech support at all about this matter. I simply have been looking through everyone's post and I had came across the one where you put the special code in the dialer system. However, prior to that I had popped in my old SIM card from my pixel 4 that was already unlocked and then I did the check in. Went back to developer options and OEM was grayed out and said to connect to the internet. That was last night and obviously I put my new activated SIM back in since that time .Now today all of a sudden I get the notification that my device has been unlocked. I checked my T-Mobile app and indeed it said that my device is unlocked and ready for any compatible network.
I would also like to add that I did do the temporary unlock as well before I got the message . Not sure if that part was before or after I swapped SIM and did the dialer method. And yes I know that that wouldn't have done anything either by itself but maybe that also helped possibly fool the system into thinking I was already unlocked idk but thats it honestly. Could be luck but I wish you all luck at the same time !
I have pics for proof including the 800 I still owe on it.

Does that only work if you're eligible?

I believe it does nothing but "check in" with a server to verify your connected to the internet

Okay I see what your saying I'm actually gonna do some more reading into that but I do know forsure it does exactly that check in to verify a connection to the internet and I assume by pinging googles server. The success notification is saying it got the ping back, meaning it's on the internet. Where the confusion I think your at is coming from is that the OEM unlock switch requires the internet purely to check if your phone can be unlocked or not (grayed out oem switch or not), so if it didn't instantly become available it is not going going to. When the device is fully paid off the switch, at least for t-mobile, will become available. But I appreciate you digging that up I have seen the title to that thread I just have never looked at it, knowing I'm more than likely **** out of luck, for now. New phone coming soon. I hope this makes sense

It's okay I went out of my way to do it lol and as for the phone then idk wtf happened something happened somewhere and at some point it ended up with me having it fully unlocked with $800 still left to pay .about to get a laptop soon to finally root. But on the T-Mobile app it says fully unlocked idk I'm happy. But now the 8 is coming out soon I have Jump! Upgrade so I can do it but I'm so cheap I held out for 4 years with my 4 non pro lmao
I have made some decent money this year so I swap around from my 7 pro, s22 ultra, and OnePlus 10 pro. I think I may trade in one for the 8 I just can't decide between getting rid of the 22 or the one plus. I'm leaning towards getting rid of the Samsung.
