Hello, I have a very annoying bug on my phone. When I turn off the screen, GPS will signal is lost. I recently got a Mi Band and I record my workouts, but I can't use GPS because of this.
I tried setting the Mi Fit app to have no restrictions in the settings, turning off battery saver, using a maps to keep GPS on (that actually worked once, but only once), but none of them worked...
If someone got a fix for this, please tell me.
Ok, so it magically started working.
I don't think there's a fix for this.
I'll try installing a custom ROM.

My nexus s' proximity sensors have stopped working. I am rooted and running aokpcb rom, I'm wondering if this is a hardware problem or something with the rom? The screen won't turn off when answering / making a call when the phone is brought up to my ear. I also tried using the app prox pro, and that wouldn't work either. If anyone knows a fix or what the problem is, that would be great.
Backup your current ROM , wipe and install a Stock ROM.
Issue solved --> Rom Issue
Issue unsolved --> hardware issue
Thank you for your response. I tried your suggestion, and the problem wasnt fixed with wiping and installing a stock rom. But, with experimentation, I installed the app "Prox Pro" and whenever I would turn it on, it would execute the command that was specified for when the phone was "flat". So, when realising this, I am assuming that my phone developed some sort of calibration problem with the sensors. All in all, I am wondering if there is a way that I can re-calibrate my proximity sensor so that they work properly. Thank you.
Could that just be the default for the phone if it's not getting a reading?
I don't think its the default. The sensors always worked fine up until sometime last week.
I meant a default if there is no signal or an error, which is what it currently looks like.
Oh, okay, ya that could be it. Do you have any idea how to change it? I also realised that the light sensor isn't working either, when on auto brightness, the screen will always be dim, no matter how bright it is outside. If you, or anyone else has a solution, I will open up my phone and check to see if there are any connection issues or something like that .
Hi,
Since last week my camera didn't work well anymore. I used to have no problems but since somewhere last week, my camera would crash my whole phone upon starting. This was with ARHD 6.6.4. Then I flashed 6.6.7, and the problem was still present. So I cleared cache and app data, and still, no working camera.
Yesterday I flashed OrDroid 9.0.0, hoping this would clear the problem, but it didn't. When I click the camera-app (camcorder as well) my phone hangs, and about a minute later reboots itself. When clicking main camera in Z-devicetest the same happens. Using the mirror-app, my phone keeps working and gives a clear image from the front camera.
Any advices?
Well, today my camera worked several times... But I cannot get it running again. I tried lots of different things, wifi on/off, airplane mode on/off, bt on/off, full battery, on wall charger...
I'm afraid it might be a hardware malfunction. Can anybody give some advice?
I used to have a camera problem it used to crash when I opened it. Someone told me to uncheck face detection on the camera settings and it worked. You can try that

I don't think it's a Rom issue, did you uncheck face detection ? If it's the Rom that should do the trick. I'm running ordroid 9.0.0 and I have no problems with the camera. Make sure you uncheck face detection, if it's still giving you trouble it could be a different issue. Check your settings. Could be a problem in settings. This is known to happen if face detection is on. So uncheck it and let us know if that did the trick. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Well, I thought I found it, but it wasn't the battery. When the batt is full, or nearly full, I haven't had any problems, but when ~<80% my phone just crashes and hangs or reboots...
I did uncheck face recognition and geotagging when it worked, but this hasn't fixed anything.
Are you on a custom kernel or not? I have experienced flashing different roms affects the camera as well.
Bump
Same issue on several different ROMS (Sense and Senseless). Camera will work for a while then freeze and crash to the home screen OR occasionally crash and reboot. This also happens with other camera apps, not just the stock app. If I don't find a solution soon I am going back to the stock ROM.

Just as sudden as the problems appeared, they disappeared... The camera functioned for about 2/3 weeks without any problems, but now last week, all of a sudden, it started crashing my phone again whenever I start the camera app...
Hello
I have a HTC HD2 flashed with ParanoidAndroid 1.5b. I was trying to run the Sygic GPS navigator but it crashes after a while with ICS. This is not a problem with the ROM but with the application. So far so good. However, I found out that since the application opened the GPS to try to get a fix, when it crashed it left the GPS "on" (although the icon on the status bar disappeared after a while). I tried another GPS navigation program but it couldn't get a fix. I thought it was the GPS configuration, so I changed it to reflect my region (Europe, Greece). But to no avail. Whatever I tried, I couldn't get a fix. I rebooted the device and tried GPS status, it got a fix after a minute or so. If I run Sygic (which crashes) again, it is impossible to get a GPS fix afterwards. If an application that uses the GPS crashes while the GPS is on, it leaves the sensor working. However, there is no indication that there is a problem, as the icon disappears after a while, and gets back on when another app tries to use the sensor. It just can't get a fix. What's more, the battery starts to drain after that (easy to spot with Current Widget, since the draw goes from 6-7mAh to 105-107mAh)
Switching the GPS on and off (from the notification drawer) does not fix the problem. The only solution is to reset the device.
My question (finally) is: is there another solution to "resetting" the sensor to its original (after the boot) state?
Best regards
George
I've searched high and low, but haven't been able to find a solution to this issue, hopefully somebody here has a good answer for this one.
I'm trying to run Waze in the foreground and DailyRoads Voyager in the background while driving, but any time DRV is running, Waze can't get a GPS lock. If I shut down DRV, I get a GPS lock quickly and without issue. The issue doesn't appear to be app related, as I can generate the same symptoms using other camera apps and 'gps status'.
I've seen a few references on other forums where people with S3's are having the same issue, but I haven't found a resolution yet. I'm running the current OTA build, never rooted/tweaked.
Any ideas?

This is a seriously random suggestion, but did you try turning off geotagging in the main camera app?

I just double-checked, and GPS tagging was already turned off in the stock camera app. Thanks for the idea though!
Can anybody else confirm if they see this behavior as well?
Since my first post I've tried rooted OTA, ran numerous CM10.1 builds (doing full wipes in between), leanKernel, testing along the way all without any real success. It seems a little hit and miss, on occasion (maybe 10% of the time) it seems to work, but in those times GPS still takes 5-10min to get a lock usually has less accuracy than when using GPS apps alone w/o the camera on.
When the camera isn't in use, I typically get a GPS lock in <30 sec (sometimes in just a few seconds).
Hello, i`m a proud user of Z3, bought it yesterday and totally happy with it, but i ran into quite big issue for me. GPS turns off whenever i lock my screen, every time i unlock GPS starts to seek for signal and it takes few moments, i would be glad if it would stay on all the time. Does anyone know how can i change this?
Thank you!

Not quite sure, but do you have stamina mode on?
I'm not fully into this, but if mobile data gets cuttted off (by stamina mode), then the GPS will stop working fully (it standards search with both GPS and mobile data).
So try go into stamina settings and allow background data when screen is off.
Sure is something to do with stamina mode where it will off the background data and power usage when screen lock... You can go in the stamina and select GPS or other services to allow it to continue running even after screen lock.

Mine doesn't do that, in fact on the weekend I had google maps doing walking nav for me, I locked the screen and had the phone in my pocket. I had forgot that I had not shut it down, and got a surprise of an american voice in my pocket tell me that I had reached my destination.
I am sure the GPS on all the time will be determined by the application that is using it.
I have another app that tracks my movements to sync up with my camera later for geocoding and works flawlessly.
And as mentioned here also, it could have something to do with stamina if you have that turned on.
So what app are you using to utilise the GPS? It will also need to continue to be running in the background to work as well.
Hey! thank you all for your input, i will look into your advice.
