Is it possible to reverse engineer android message to add support for Google voice integration?
I know kinda weird question, I am just tired of limitation of using Google voice app for messaging, maybe any developer with app development experience can mod Google messages to support Google voice messages.

I have been a google voice user since it was GrandCentral and an Android user since the Tmobile G1 (i even pre-ordered it). It's ridiculous that despite it being a google app/service there is no true full integration with android. it's great that there are apps that can integrate text messaging but they are all lacking. When setting up calls, Clicking "place all calls from google voice" in the google voice app get the job done but a banner comes across the screen that says using google voice and sometimes dialing from that times out (I think that's what is happening)and i have to use my phone's real number then. Is there any app or rom that has True google voice integration, when i say true i mean that if when i use my phone i cant tell that its using google voice (no banners, or special messages for calls) and texting from native text messaging apps in seamlessly connected to google voice? Somethign like having a setting where u just check use google voice number for all phone services. Does anyone have any solutions? I am all ears.

I agree with you. I am a heavy Voice user and would love to know more about how I can enhance my experience. I'm using a Galaxy Nexus, and even so, the Google Voice app is not as fluid as I expect it should be. Sometimes it's choppy.
I'm not sure if this is a new google feature or an issue on my end.
I use the native messaging app to send out sms to certain people to display my carrier provided number and the google voice app to send out sms to other people to display my google voice number. i discovered that regardless of using google voice or the native messaging app(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507720), it was going through as my google voice number (e.g. google voice and/or native messaging app sends sms as google voice number). this is what i originally thought was happening until i discovered that if i send an sms with the native messaging app to another user with google voice installed, it goes through as my google voice number. if i send an sms with the native messaging app to someone without google voice installed, it displays my carrier provided number.
*obviously if i send an sms from the google voice app, it shows up as the google voice number*
i'm not exactly sure how to fix this. i could be completely wrong in the scenario above because i've only tested it with several other friends. i have made no changes to my google voice web settings, nor my google voice app and native messaging app.
any help is greatly appreciated.
i'm on verizon, gs3 android 4.1.1
even with google voice uninstalled and the phone rebooted, sending from the native messaging app sends through as my google voice number
bump
anyone?
Install the Google voice app and in the app settings. Click on send text through app instead of through phone messaging app. This might help

Hello,
Due to the pervasiveness of Google Voice Threads and Google Now threads and the difficulty of searching specific critera with generic terms, I created this thread. If a similar one exists, please redirect me.
I would like a way to force all my Google Now (Google Search) verbally generated SMS to be sent through my Google Voice number instead of the phone's carrier number. Sending texts through Google now in a vechicle is ideal. I also don't want the mistake of accedently sending a message through my non-google number. Currently Hangouts is my choice for messaging/SMS after Google integrated Google Voice with the Hangout's Dialer App. I use Google Voice for everything and have no desire to have my carrier number known by anyone at all. That being said, I use FreedomPop as my provider, so the assigned Sprint number is worthless anyhow as is. Nevertheless, I imagine many folks want this integration, so perhaps there is a way.
Bottom Line: How can you force all generated SMS to be directed through Google Voice instead of the default carrier number?
I use a ported version of GPE on my Sprint S4, so rooted apps are open for consideration. Voice+ built into CyanogenMod may allow this intended function, but I await feedback concerning this idea. I would like not to switch ROMs for this feature set.
Definitions (for those who need clarity)
Google Now - google. com/landing/now
Google Voice - google. com/googlevoice/about.html
Google Search App - play.google. com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox[/url]
So I've been searching the web for a clear explanation but am now more lost than before.
Goal: I would like to have my SMS/MMS synced and backed up across devices (much like iMessage i suppose) - preferably with Hangouts - so that I can reply to a text message from my computer or another device - I would also like to see my Google Voice voicemails in the hangouts app also.
Is this even possible?
I've seen google help docs with instructions on how to integrate Voice with Hangouts but I do not see those settings in my Hangouts app. Am I missing something?
And I recall reading about Hangouts being capable of syncing SMS and MMS messages across devices - not sure if it's a projectFi exclusive feature or what.
Any suggested apps to accomplish my goal if google apps are not the way to go? Please advise. I don't use google voice for free calls or text messaging - it's sole purpose is to keep my voice messages. Nor do I use Hangouts for free calls or free messaging. I'd like to use my carrier service and phone number.
I'm not rooted (anymore, thanks to android pay) so non-root solutions would be most helpful - though root solutions may pull me back to the dark side.
