Help please? My phone is eating itself! - General Questions and Answers

Hello! I have a ZTE X wave p609 and all this phone does is eat itself! I try to download apps and it says no space. My storage has around 2gb free. I'm not using any sd cards. Before I deleted all my apps my phone was asking for 300mb space. Now after I deleted EVERYTHING including videos, photos, downloads, AND apps, it's now asking for 500mb! What the hecko phone? It's funny because when I try downloading apps and it asks me to delete apps to make space, THERE'S A LIST OF NOTHING, NO APPS TO DELETE BEVAUSE I DELETED EVERYTHING ALREADY!
Yes I've cleared play store caches, deleted memory, restarted phone but nothing. Now I can't even re download essential apps I need that I had before. I just want to burn this phone. But before I do I may just want to try rooting it. I haven't done rooting in over a decade but it may just be time! Anyway anyone have solution to why this phone is so bad? Anyone know how I can fix it besides rooting it? And if you don't know how to fix it, do you know how I root it?
I can't even send screenshots because there's no space!

Just wanted to know if was 9 or higher...
Do a factory reset and see if that solves the issue. If there's a rootkit that eliminate it.
If resets and it's ok, root away if you want.
If that doesn't work you're looking at some kind of firmware corruption and/or hardware failure be my guess.

Dude you're an absolute genius it works! Can I buy you a hooker for the night man? Holy moly! Thank you!
Hey I think I still want to root this beech. Know where I can go for that?

Yay... nothing like success.
Be more careful what you install and download in the future.
No thanks with the hooker... I have my Dubai party girls.
No clue how to root that puppy.

[Q] How do I get an Android L developer's preview?

Hi, I read that anyone with a developer's account can access the developers' preview build of Android L, that was supposed to be available today, I have a developer's account (to upload apps to the market) but I don't see any build of android L, is this the required account? or is there any other type of account required? thanks!

I guess it'll be available in a few hours.
I guess they just haven't released it, yet.
Don't forget their different timezone.
Thank you all, maybe I'm getting too desperate I just wanted to confirm that my account is the right one, I'll be refreshing until it appears, thanks again!
EDIT: I believe being rooted would not be a problem at the moment of the installation, right? I know that I'll lose root after that, but as long as the actual installation does not give me problems, it's fine.

Considering that the images will have to be flashed through fastboot, you'll probably lose root and everything else on data/system partitions (unless they don't wipe it, but I think it does).

That's fine, I believe that flash through fastboot does not include a total wipe including camera folder and all that right? never done it that way, better be prepared. Thanks!

As long as you don't flash the userdata.img, all /sdcard data will be fine. You don't have to flash userdata.img to bump android versions! System, boot would do just fine (and bootloader if they bump it as well)
Or you could just wait till a flashable zip is posted. Someone will have one up within hours of release.

Unless they changed the folder structure like they did a few releases ago - if they did, best to do a clean install.
I'm backing up right now just in case.
Don't wanna mess with the installation script by flashing some things and not others (although there would be virtually no risk by flashing system and boot partition), but better safe than sorry, after all, we can just shove everything back when finished
Consider ir a backup routine, and you'll have an updated bk

That's an entirely different scenario. Each and everyone of us would need to wipe clean if that happens but usually a system and boot flash would do just fine
The N5 has been my FIRST of many, many, many Android phones and even Windows Pocket PC phones that I haven't felt the need to unlock/root etc. Everything has just worked great on it and I have always been able to do everything I wanted to do from this phone. I have been so satisfied with the phone that it has kept me away from XDA for a while. Don't know if that is a good thing or bad, lol. I used to be on this site for hours every single day and now I feel like I am light years behind in rooting. HA!
L has me interested though and I am contemplating unlocking my bootloader for it which just becomes a PITA with losing your data and adding things back and all that great stuff that takes so much of your time. Then if things suck you have to flash back to something else and the never ending process continues. The N5 has gotten me so much time back in my life but I feel like it might demand some of my time back to it. Oh I hate this stuff!!!!
I think I'll make a backup, just in case, as someone said previously, I would prefer to make a clean installation if it's needed and use the image provided by Google.
Thanks!

Files Not Being Recognized

I have a Nexus 5 that I have had since December that has been functioning flawlessly (Google replacement for my last one with busted glass)
I have not done anything to this device (no hacking, no ROMSs, no rooting), beside replace the battery....
A few days ago, I noticed that a bunch of my "custom" ringtones were not working anymore. They just stopped showing up on the ringtone picker. The same goes for my "custom" alarm tones. I also noticed that when I go to attach a picture (to a hangout message, or SMS) that the "Recent" category shows only 1 or 2 pictures (instead of all recent pics). However, when I use RootExplorer and look at the directories, all of the files are there. The ringtones, alarms, pictures, etc. In fact the only pictures that are showing up under the "Recent" category are the ones that have been taken since I began having the problem.
There is also some other weird things happening, like I have lost some contact pictures and the phone has been acting weird.
This phone got the 5.1 update and I have already tried to wipe the /cache partition. Again, all files are there, but Android is not recognizing them...
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I guess I was just hesitant because this is the 1st phone I have had that does not have an actual "SD card" so I was not sure how it would work...
Also, the phone is not rooted -- not sure if that matters

If you don't know how to see that then probably it's locked because it comes locked out of the box. So I'm afraid you will have to wipe your device data to fix your issue. If you're still wondering how to see that you must turn off your device and hold volume down + power button, phone will turn on and green Android will appear. At the bottom you will see lock state of bootloader

Recovering a deleted video from Note 5

Hello there,
Unfortunately I deleted an important video from my Verizon note 5. I been trying to recover the video for two days but no luck. I tried Samsung Data recovery, dr.fone, Recuva, and many different software. I came to the conclusion it's not possible without rooting my device which I would if I know how,but from what I read there was no successful way to root the Verizon version. Any idea, or a recommendation would be really appreciated.
Thank you!!

It's probably to late without having some sophisticated software recovery tools and taking the phone apart.. I guess if it was mine, I'd create a backup of everything I needed and then do a factory reset and when it asks to restore thing's after the reset tap yes and hope that it did back it up to your Google account and save it but I really think it's to late. Make sure you sign back in with the correct(same) Google account. Before doing any factory reset make sure OEM unlock is ENABLED in developer settings!!

It's could be to late because the memory blocks that it was stored on could have been overwritten already by now and that makes it to late it's gone and something else is in it's place.. That's why I said maybe your Google account might have backed it up so you can email Google and see what they say about it..

Thanks a lot for your try to help. It was not backed to the cloud for sure because it was deleted right after it was recorded. Do you think there is still any chance to recover it by the factory rest method? Also, Is there any software I can purchase to help ?

Probably not.. You can ask around but a lot of the software or apps people sell don't do what they say they can do but I would search around and try to read reviews on some of the applications because other people will tell you whether they've had any luck or not but I would look around before the factory reset because if you do that you're definitely overwriting the memory blocks for sure!!
Still looking for some way to recover the file but no luck. Didn't use the phone ever since.
I wonder if you have set up to sync before. If yes, maybe you can check out in the trash of Google Drive. It is allowed to recover deleted data within 60 days. Or you can try FORecovery to recover your data, which I have used before. As I know, it's have nothing to do with device version while the software identifying and rooting your phone. Anyway, just take a try. Hope this is not too late for you.

If the video is super important and you absolutely have to have it you should take it a recovery specialist and don't download or put anything else on the phone because it can overwrite the memory blocks.. Usually when you delete something the system just marks the memory blocks as reusable and able to be overwritten but if you don't do anything to cause it to be overwritten it's possible that it's still just sitting in the memory blocks and you just can't see it..

Dead Mother's locked Velvet

I searched the forum for this and maybe I missed something but I can't find help anywhere.
My mother recently passed and we're trying to crack open her LG Velvet. She was very secretive about passwords and such and I can't break passed her finger pattern lock screen. Everything I've found says I can wipe her phone clean and it'll be clear but we need in to access her information and photos, we don't know what details she kept on her phone so we desperately need in. Does anyone know a way we can get passed the lock screen without erasing data? We've tried 55 times all the patterns we think she used but it's so far to no avail. We have T-Mobile, of which I called. They can't help so they sent me to LG and they can't help.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!
Id u can get an custom recovery installed on that go to /Data/system/ and erase all files with lockscreen name on it and it would remove the pattern

Question Has anyone been able to install the Beta via ADB sideloading and was able to KEEP their data and files?

I'm on AT&T Snapdragon 512gb S22U locked firmware AVG6. I want to sideload the ONE UI 5 Beta but I don't want to lose my data. Has anyone had success using this method and keeping their files?
I keep seeing mixed responses, some people on S908U1 were able to keep all their data and people on S908U were not able to keep data.
Any help would be appreciated.
I know flashing from U to U1 usually requires a clean install, but installing a beta shouldn't require that.
I think you can Samsung backup and sideload this update. Backups are a good habit.
No files were lost after my device was updated
If you don't want to risk losing data, then don't do it. Beta isn't for people who are scared of losing data.
Samsung Smart Switch is for backup of data, so I don't think that this is topic to open !!

I have too, but by definition beta software is unstable and many problems can happen that can irrevocably cause data loss. It's best practice to backup and be prepared to lose data in case it happens, unless you don't care about your data.
You should only need to clean install if you are changing region firmware (ex U/U1). I'm not sure why you're trying to go the sideload method of getting on OneUI 5? Why aren't you just enrolling through the members app and OTA updating? OTA guarantees you won't lose any data. Going with sideloading, if you flash the wrong variant say goodbye to all your data because you'll probably soft-brick and have to factory reset. I'm just not sure I see any benefits to sideloading over going OTA unless I'm missing something here

Because the Beta is not open to locked U firmware AT&T models. Can't use Samsung members to get in.
Sideloading is done when OTA is unavailable, as in my case.

Thanks, I know all of this.
I've never had a Beta that caused any data loss.
Unless I manually did a clean install myself.
Update U1 variant no data was wiped
S908B, Exynos, beta didn't wipe anything.
U1 256GB unlocked from best buy. I didn't lose any data.
S22U Exynos, no data wipe when sideloaded beta...even the previously applied HEX theme was preserved
I'm more looking for people with locked U firmwares to share their experience.
I already know Exynos and Unlocked firmwares don't have data wipe after install.
@Kris_b1104 You've been asking this for several days now. It literally would have taken you less time to just backup, update, and restore if it wiped. At this rate, by the time enough people answer you, the beta is going to be over.
