[GUIDE] VIVO NEX S/A Apps Safe To Uninstall/Disable Without Root

The subject of app/bloatware removal/disabling has been mentioned in a few threads throughout the NEX forum,but,not much to mention as far as advancing the discussion,so,I thought I'd start a thread to centralize the topic.
As w/any mods go,this is one that's fairly harmless,worse case scenario,a factory reset will get you back on track,but,ultimately everyone is responsible for their own phone & what happens to it.
With that out of the way..............
1) Any app that can be easily uninstalled by the "uninstall" button is 100% safe,no harm whatsoever. If you want,d/l an apk extractor tool app to make a copy & store wherever,should you change your mind.
2) Now,most are interested in getting rid of as many of the VIVO system apps as possible w/o crippling wanted functionality. This will be an evolving list,& gradually adding to it,with input from anyone interested,I'll update the list right here.

4) Now here's what I have so far (see below,I'll edit/add as needed)
Any input regarding adding to the list is encouraged,please only suggest bloatware that you have actually uninstalled yourself & please include any effects on functionality that may have resulted,especially if it affected other apps & their functionality. (question marks below [??/etc...] are in place of Chinese letters/characters)
5) Once again,tried & tested input is highly encouraged & welcome. The list will grow & evolve/be edited on a continuous basis until we all get it figured out. :good:
******** A factory reset will restore all uninstalled apps
******** OTA's shouldn't be affected or affect the status of apps,whether they're installed or uninstalled (unless,of course,you've deleted something pertaining to updates,which won't be listed below)
******** The dates reflect the time of posting/removal,for ease of troubleshooting,in the event something noteworthy gets broken,it gives a good reference where to begin looking for the problem/solution.

Really great job and nice effort that all of Vivo Nex user should participate and share the knowledge and experience of uninstalling Chinese bloatware and optimize and maximize total experience when using their smartphone.
One thing is sure will never get bored as Funtouch OS has unlimited potential of uninstalling bloatware all over the UI

Yes, absolutely..... I'll post every time a new app is either added or put back. I'll also add notes per each app if needed,especially for the ones that are system apps & not in the app drawer.

Updated OP with Dates of Removal, to facilitate troubleshooting in the event something of consequence gets broken.

I'm using the latest Windows 10 build where command prompt is replaced with Powershell. Have tried various options on the internet to revert back to command prompt (including going to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar and disable the option to use Powershell), but still stuck with Powershell. Any other workarounds ?

I'm also on WIN10 & using Powershell, seems to be working here, been using it on various phones for ADB & Fastboot commands since day one.
Did you get the initial permission request pop-up on your phone?

For the following Vivo apps, what are the respective packages i should uninstall?

Great post - many thanks. I must have uninstalled something I shouldn't have as the swipe up from the middle to get multitasking no longer works !!
Any ideas ?

I think i will wait to see if we can get and install the global rom before trying to uninstall some chinese app.

Nothing really jumps out from the list in the OP.
1) Are you able to use the nav buttons & get to recents/multi-tasking?
2) Did you uninstall anything that's not on the current list in the OP?

Thanks for the reply. I made sure that I only uninstalled items that were indicated safe in your post and some from the post by WhySoSeriousJoKer. I certainly have not uninstalled 'com.vivo.upslide' which was flagged as disabling navigation gestures.
All the other gestures work fine, it's only the swipe up from the middle to bring up the open apps !

Yeah, I wouldn't have uninstalled that one either.
For troubleshooting purposes, can you try out using the navigation buttons, see if you can access recents/multitasking?
Also, which software version were/are you on when you lost the multitasking function?
It probably doesn't matter, but, any information for troubleshooting purposes is always a good thing...

You show com.vivo.browser as one of the apps that can be removed. When I send Location Sharing from Google Maps to a contact via messenger, the link opens up using the vivo Browser app. Can this be defaulted to another app before that browser is removed?

If I tap "Select People",my Google contacts appear & I get a link to direct share & it selects my default texting app (Textra,FWIW).

As for if the default can be selected before the VIVO Browser is removed,I don't know,TBH,this is the 1st time I've ever used Location Sharing,LOL.

Can you send yourself a Location Sharing link selecting MESSENGER and then add your phone number as the receiver to see if it'll work with no VIVO BROWSER app installed?

If you're speaking about Facebook Messenger, I don't use Facebook, but I was able to share the link with Textra, my default messaging app. I shared it to myself on the same phone, using both SIM Cards & using the same SIM Card as sender & receiver.
Also sent my location to another phone I have via Textra with no problem whatsoever.
Perhaps someone here who has already deleted the VIVO Browser & uses Facebook can verify it'll work.
My guess is that it will, but, I can understand if you're hesitant, most don't want to have to start over via factory reset if, in the unlikelyhood, it doesn't work.....

How to stop Google from disabling already installed apps "for our protection"?

My Google Play Protect is turned OFF - yet Handcent Next SMS app was disabled from my phone as well as everyone else's recently. Why Google did it is a separate story [issue has apparently been resolved with a new version of app] - but let's talk about how Google does this?
I manually reinstall the old .apk which reactivates the app, but Google nukes it within 24 hours.
What can be done to stop Google from doing this?
If you feel that Google should do this 'for our protection,' I respect your opinion, but this thread isn't about that. What can be done in Settings to prevent / stop Google from disabling an already installed app on our phones? This is not about the Play Store. It's about already installed apps on our phones. Play Protect is OFF.
There are reasons people want older versions of apps - such as features no longer available on new versions of a given app.

Disable all Google apps that are set as System Administrator including Find my Device, etc.
Disable Google play Services when not needed.
If Google play Services in enabled on a reboot it will trigger that type of behavior.
This may or may not work on a non Samsung device. Google apks are drooling pigs... and only getting worse.

It sounds like the suggestion is to disable a plethora of apps and services that would have the end result of transfroming the phone into more or less a device that doesn't use anythig Google, even services that we actually may need..
Is there an app that could accomplish this, I mean all that's needed is to block disabling one single app.
I don't need to password protect usage or anything else - just prevent anything from disabling the app / removing it. Thank you.
Can I do anything to lay a trap so that we could see the mechanism which Google uses to disable an already installed app on your phone - it's not Play protect, It's OFF on my phone.
I mean, I will eventually start looking for another app - it's not really about that - but I mean think about it, do you really want them to disable your apps, with *no warning*, no *hey we've discovered a security issue, you might want to be aware of* - instead they just nuke an app we've used for like a decade, no explanation, just because they feel it's good for us, I mean are we in China? Or worse yet, Russia?
Anyone else bothered by this? I'd just like to see if anyone knows a way for us to have a choice, that's all.

I'm also very much bothered by it. Like, on my older phone google just outright disabled the font manager app, that was a system/vendor app. What risk would that app would pose, if it was risky it surely wouldn't be pre-installed! Moreover it was just a font manager!!!

The app may have been compromised. Scan the apk with online Virustotal.
Google on the other hand has long been compromised
Blocking Playstore with Karma Firewall will stop this behavior.

It isn't about if the app was compromised or not, it's just that google doesn't give us the choice. That's what iritates me. Just as @c627627 said, isn't it more like china or Russia? Dictating without our consent.

It's great. My one Note 10+ is still running on Pie. Karma's logging feature is fully active in that version. Even tags/time stamps each app that connects. That functionality was lost with Android 10☹ It still will block but it greatly reduces its use for fast troubleshooting.
One reason I still run Pie.

I would still scan that app to be on the safe side. I use ApkExport to make installable copies of all my apps and updates and take Playstore out of the loop. This protects those apps is case of bad upgrades or deletion from Playstore. Makes reloading much faster and no guessing/searching.

I have discovered [the hard way] how to successfully deal with this.
Fact: Turning OFF Google Play Protect does not turn OFF Google Play Protect. Google *will* scan and disable anything it wants using Play Protect, *regardless* of whether your Play Protect is ON or OFF.
Play Protect OFF button is there as an illusion that you have a choice, you do not. Your phone may have any app disabled any time by Google... for your protection of course. For our protection.
Now here's the correct way to do this:
Google Play Store > [upper right corner] Tap your name icon > Play Protect >
You will see your disabled app listed, with two options:
Uninstall
and
Enable app
The *only* correct way to re-enable it, is to TAP on Enable App here > Enable [to confirm.]
Doing anything else, such as uninstalling/reinstalling/manually installing an .apk file will only _temporarily_ work.
Google will disable it again, 24 hours or so later...
So you must follow exact procedure above to Enable App if you wish to continue to use it, after it has been flagged by Google Play Protect.
Being able to re-enable it is a big deal. You don't get to do that in China or Russia so tank you Google for giving us this choice.

Fact: Turning OFF Google Play Protect does not turn OFF Google Play Protect. Google *will* scan and disable anything it wants using Play Protect, *regardless* of whether your Play Protect is ON or OFF.
Play Protect OFF button is there as an illusion that you have a choice, you do not. Your phone may have any app disabled any time by Google... for your protection of course. For our protection.
Now here's the correct way to do this:
Google Play Store > [upper right corner] Tap your name icon > Play Protect >
You will see your disabled app listed, with two options:
Uninstall
and
Enable app
The *only* correct way to re-enable it, is to TAP on Enable App here > Enable [to confirm.]
Doing anything else, such as uninstalling/reinstalling/manually installing an .apk file will only _temporarily_ work.
Google will disable it again, 24 hours or so later...
So you must follow exact procedure above to Enable App if you wish to continue to use it, after it has been flagged by Google Play Protect.
Being able to re-enable it is a big deal. You don't get to do that in China or Russia so tank you Google for giving us this choice.

Blocking Google Playstore with Karma Firewall will probably stop it.
I have some apps long gone from Playstore, it ignores them if it runs. I don't know... maybe time to scan those apps you have getting wacked off with Virustotal, again.
They may have been compromised.
I always keep backup installable copies of all my apps for reloads or in case something else goes south.

Thanks for this but, in my case, a certain app has parts of its features stop working and THEN play protect disables it all. If I enable it in play protect section then some features are missing, until I uninstall the app and reinstall. But then I face the same issue with play protect slowly dismantling my app and the finally disabling it.
I wondered, what if I enable it once I get the prompt in play protect section then just install the app again without uninstalling it. Would that work without play protect disabling it again?

Question Can I avoid forced Android 12 update from Samsung?

There are things I don't want about update, and things I don't want to lose with update. I have postponed every time it asks, but Samsung says I can only postpone 2 more times. Is there any way to avoid this?

Disabling just that app only stops the firmware updates. My stock N10+ is running on Pie for example.

For the setup process did you have to remove all google accounts (and then reinstall after), connect phone to pc, debug, etc? Description of app sounded a little daunting. Do you think there's anything risky? I really DO NOT want to install the next android version, and am running out of time. Can't believe they're going to force it on me, so definitely want a workaround. Thanks for your help.

I use Package Disabler.
A adb edit can also be used.
Neither require removing Google accounts!

My personal method for disabling apps is by using this code in ADB
(assuming ADB is already setup and you have USB debugging enabled):
adb shell pm disable-user **ENTER.PACKAGE.NAME.HERE**
I personally use MiXplorer app, open menu on the left side, choose App then
search update; tap on what looks like the correct app and see the package
name. Each carrier may use different packages.
For me on my Huawei P30 Pro the complete command would look like this:

I think adb is a little beyond me. I will give Package Disabler a try. This is what it says on its app page about removing Google acct, etc:, which I wondered if you had to do:
** No Rooting required **
** You will have to remove all google accounts temporarily to activate this app then you can add back your accounts**
** You will need to connect your device to PC once and run a command as listed below**
** Uninstall within few hours to get automatic refund, if you are not happy with the app**

Enable developer options
Open developer options and disable auto update system

I'm not 100% sure it will stop the clock once it's already ticking. I've never gotten that far. I do know it will prevent it from trying to update, though. Any update with those settings has to be manually checked. I don't even get notice when they're available.

Disable the app I showed you that should hopefully kill it...
Clearing the system cache apparently does not clear the download.
If it loads and upgrades the bootloader, you're boned.

PROBLEM: When I try to buy in playstore, it says transaction declined. I did read in one of the reviews that google has some kind of problem with license, surely political., although it still appears in playstore - can't get it. Is there any other way to get/buy/install the app?

A lot of apps get suspended for political reasons, but this one was legitimate. That said, if you are sure it's what you want, you can buy it on their website. It's the first Google result for "Package Disabler" but make sure to get what you want done as soon as you buy it. One of the big things that led to the app being removed was the developer revoking licenses to force additional purchases.

Thanks. It's on my list of things to do today. I did go to the site, and am slightly reluctant to use credit card, no paypal option even. I feel a lot more comfortable buying through playstore, not to mention the price on developer site is 5 british pounds, over $7 US. Wouldn't mind the price if it does what I want. Looks like a very complicated process from buying through activating. We'll see. It's a good lead for sure and I appreciate the input.

Before going the package disabler route, I've gone into developer options and have disabled automatic software update and am at the point of "stopping" the software update active app, but get a message saying the app cannot be stopped safely, so I'm still undecided. While looking around, I triggered one more software update postponement, so am down to one. Do you think it's safe to stop the software update in spite of the warning? I think it might help, or it might just reload next time phone is started.

Best stop screwing around or it will make the decision for you... that update app is insidious and acts more like malware. It has just about every permissions there is.
If you don't package block it, don't be surprised if it supersedes your settings

I've used it at least 3 times over the years. MC and Visa purchases in the US are insured and for 5 bucks I don't sweat it.
That update app is a ball buster, I hate it. It's caused me more trouble than any Android malware has in the last 8 years

If I copy something and then I open Google or other apps that support pasting from clipboard, I get a toast notification like the above.

The mighty Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra .
There is no option to turn OFF Google Play Services (button is greyed out).
Received couple of Google Play System updates yesterday. I'm not 100% sure if this started after that though.
I don't think it is malware. But surely a bug.
I don't want to clear my clipboard history (which is possible using Samsung keyboard). And I don't think doing that will fix the problem either.

Try clearing the system cache.

Unfortunately android is so finicky the only options I would recommend is to do a full wipe and see if the issue remains. If it does, it is most likely another stupid android quirk (like notifcations unlocking your phone when the screen lock type is set to "none"), and the only permanent fix is to not use any google/samsung apps, keyboards, etc. because they all stink

At the moment, factory reset is not something I want to do. I hope an update would fix this.

If you have done a major firmware upgrade without doing a factory reset... it's time to.
If you used SmartSwitch that may be the problem. Again, factory reset.
Now you know one reason I don't upgrade or update the firmware.

You could do a full Nandroid backup which you can revert in case resetting did not fix the problem. Then troubleshoot by resetting to determine if this issue is an actual bug or not. If it is indeed a bug then good luck and hopefully your backup restores properly so you dont have to redo everything.

My device is fully stock.

It was only Google app that was doing this. The only other app that was doing it as mentioned in OP was my clipboard app. I have corrected the OP to reflect this fact.
I deleted the app data for Google app. Now I'm not getting the toast notification as before. Hopefully this has fixed the problem.
If I search on the internet, there are articles on this already from earlier, and the only solution so far seems to be to block those specific apps from accessing the clipboard. But that would require ADB, which is far from ideal.
NOTE
By removing this permission from an app, you can no longer use the "paste" feature while inputting text within that app. This shouldn't be a problem for apps like games, but it may cause an inconvenience for other apps.
Users should have the choice under Settings to decide which apps can access clipboard.
Ideally, no app should be allowed access, except for dedicated clipboard apps themselves.

does the regular ol' going to the app in Play Store and unchecking the "enable auto update" not work? i do this for the YouTube app (because i use revanced) and it seems to work well enough...

I always use the manual update method. I always did the same with Microsoft until they basically forced everyone to accept their updates. At any rate I have never found what you are looking for. All you can do is pick and choose what gets updated manually.

Use TeMeFi. As you can see I have YouTube installed and Play Store doesn't even detect it as intalled.

This is what I've used for a long time. It works better if you install it and then run it in Termux to have a recurring 30 min cronjob that continuously removes it from updates.

Yeah, I already do manual updates. The apps still show up to be updated though. If they could be removed I actually could use automatic updates. lol

You do that by detaching them from Play. Ways to do that are above.

that's weird...all my other apps automatically update...
the only annoyance is if I do press the "Update All" button, I have to press "Skip" when there is a single popup for updating Youtube (since it's checked to not automatically update). That and Youtube is perpetually there in the updates page; instead of "No updates available"....

I take it you can set individual apps to automatically update? I have disabled automatic updates globally.

Any way to do this without root (running stock rom unrooted, for once lol... For now!)

I have it set inverted than that...mine is set that I have enabled automatic updates globally and individually disable Youtube to automatically update. So it works out with what you said in your OP (below):

Sorry, to be clearer, is there any way to detach apps from the playstore without root? I also have youtube and 1 other app set to not auto update but would prefer to detach from playstore altogether...

I imagine there might (a very much long shot) be some kind of adb command you might be able to do...maybe...
I wouldn't begin to know what or how to go about it, but researching that intention with "adb command" in the search query might prove fruitful; if there's anything out there on this possibility...

Use APK Editor, change the app version and versioncode, re-sign it using new key, and reinstall it.
it wont appear in playstore update list, since the key is different, and the code is also newer (you can match the code with one from playstore if you want)
I use this method to bypass force update dialog in certain app. The newer version of the app remove plenty of features, so i rather stay with older version, but then they applied force update features. So i do the mod above

You can stop auto update directy in play Stroe,
go to the app page and clic on the 3 dots on the upder right corner, you can disable the auto update of the app here.....

You don't need a recurring job with TeMeFi. You can uninstall after using.

Yeah, make sure you have Busybox for Android NDK Magisk module installed, then "su -c detach -t" in Termux. Choose option 2 - Crond, then set your preferred interval. (30 min works well for me)
