Hello there,
I am desperately try to understand if the Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2021 (the one with snapdragon 870) is a good tablet or not, but more than that, I am trying to understand how it is sold from vendors.
This tablet in Europe is called Lenovo P12 and the base price is 899€ that, in my idea, is a little bit too much.
So I am checking chinese vendors that should sell this tablet with two options for the ROM: the chinese one and the (fake) global one.
As I understood, the chinese ROM has no play services while the global one has play services but has widevine L3 instead of L1.
So first of all: is it true?
Second question: I've seen a lot of video of people installing play services on the chinese ROM, and as it should be usable in English at least, what's the big deal on having chinese ROM? I mean: If I can install play services, If I can set english language, If I can have Netflix, Disney+ and PrimeVideo in HD (and dolby vision) what's the problem?
I am sorry if my questions sound stupid, but reading pages and pages of forum did not let me understand clealry the situazion
Thanks in advance
Ok here are the facts:
Global Hacked ROM is Widevine L3 and will receive no updates but has the benefit of supporting multiple languages. All streaming services will be in low bitrate and or SD.
The CN ROM supports English and Chinese only and is widevine L1. Netflix works in FHD (no HDR of any kind), Disney+ Works in FHD (no HDR of any kind), Prime Video runs low bitrate compared to many other tablets.
You can easily install google play store (services framework is already integrated into the ROM) by following the video below.
However there are some known issues
The Security Centre app is very strict at auto closing apps by default. This means you’ll likely not get notifications, calendar updates alarms etc. It can be configured to whitelist apps of your choosing and will then function as normal.
However there have been numerous reports of the Security App breaking when a users upgrades to ZUI13. I believe it is triggered if the user does a factory reset. (I have upgraded and not reset and all is working ok).
Some people are reporting losing their WideVine L1 certification at a hardware level (i.e. not within the Netflix app) out of the blue. We have not pinpointed why this is happening. (I still have widevine L1 but received a CN ROM and did not mess with it in anyway and let the tablet OTA as normal)
WIFI5 frequency range is set to Chinese. In many cases this means global routers are not able to connect via WIFI5. I had this issue and could only solve it by setting my routers region to Chinese. It has not negatively impacted any other devices on my network or speeds but you may want to bare this in mind if you are intended to travel often with the tablet.
In general the hardware is decent, with Nova Launcher replacing the stock launcher and using Streamo (there ethical considerations here, I am simply streaming UHD content I have paid/subbed to via other means as I am shut out of the official apps due to DRM) I am generally very happy with the tablet.
Lenovo Hardware Good, Lenovo Software and Support Sh!te. Would I recommend. Probably not.
Well thank you very very very much for this detailed report.
So, as I understand, basically you have a HDR capable display but nothing is using it... I can't understand why but as far as my major use would be watching Netflix, Disney and Prime Video.
PS What's Streamo? Never heard about it
Thank you again!
If you use Stremio you can watch 4k HDR, DV content no problem. No official streaming platform supports the 4k HDR on Android.
Another more expensive option is The XiaoXin Pad Pro 12.6 (And P12 Pro Globally) which supports FHD Dolby Vision as its a netflix approved device.
Having owned both the E4 AMOLED screen is much much better (to justify the price increase imo) than the 2021 Pad Pro 11".
so...can view youtube hdr content?
what if compare to xiaomi pad 5 pro?

I recently found out that a device require widevine L1 to play copyrighted content in HD from streaming services like Netflix and so(no effect on YouTube). And it turns out redmi note 5 pro(whyred) is missing L1 it does have L3(used to play standard quality) and not only this device turns out a lot of devices including likes of one plus 5, pocophone etc have the same problem and to my knowledge this is not something that can be fixed with a software update it somehow related to hardware so i would like your thoughts on this particular issue and if there is any chance that it can be fixed.??
EDIT: Just found a modded version of Netflix with hd enabled don't know if it's fully functional (can't test now) but it's s temporary fix (the Netflix version is old) but here's the link

Well that could be their marketing strategy but still man it's a little bit upsetting knowing that the user don't have the ability to play videos in HD
Hi! I Before I updated to Pie I could watch The Grand Tour and Man in the High Castle in 4k via the Amazon Prime Video app. After I updated it only goes to 1080p, no matter how long I let it buffer. I have cleared cache and data, and reinstalled the app with no success.
Anyone else experiencing the same thing?
Yeah i believe it to be a Amazon Prime issue, as Prime have not updated their app to support Pie.
Could be an issue with them not supporting Pie (which is quite possible given the stale state of affairs on both FireOS and androidTV..)
But it could be as well something's missing in the Sony Pie firmware, who knows (fun fact: some sort of playready support, used to be advertised once) EDIT: it wasn't drm
Is there anybody still on Oreo that could post a drminfo screenshot?
Could you stream from YT in 4k?
I have a Sony Xperia Xz Premium Wi-Fi Android Oreo 8.0.0 but I can’t watch 4K Films and series in the Premium Video app. The maximum quality both in streaming and in download si 1080p
The strictly technical requirement is just Widevine L1 eventually.
As they sort of mention in their FAQs though, it may be there are some further white/black-lists.
Since I am new to Android Tv Boxes I want to ask if is there a way to have Full HD quality of Youtube videos on a cheap Android Tv box.
In most of the reviews that I have seen about cheap chinese Tv boxes they have good specs with plenty of Ram for my needs, fast cpu and big of storage but they are not able to playback Youtube in full HD which is so frustrating and I cancel a potential purchase.
Is there a way to bypass this issue eg with custom rom or an app like newpipe and skytube in froid ? I do not like xiaomi mi box s so please do not even suggest it.

I took delivery of the Poco F2 Pro yesterday and am very happy with it so far, however one issue is puzzling me as I can't find anyone else who is suffering with the same problem. I'm running Global ROM here in the EU, version 12.0.3 stable and I haven't unlocked the bootloader etc as I don't plan to. I've used DRM Info and I'm running at security level L1, which should afford me HD in all the streaming apps. Netflix, Google Play, YouTube etc all play either HDR or HD absolutely fine. The only one that is exhibiting problems is Amazon's Prime Video app. Normally it'll come up with a 'HD' icon when playing videos which changes into HD 1080p after a short time of streaming. However, when playing films which SHOULD be HD no icon pops up at all for any HD film. The films appear to be playing in either 480-540p and no higher. I've tried removing the app, clearing its cache, setting all streaming options to the highest quality, rebooting the phone and even did a factory reset after encountering the problem but there's no joy. Is anyone else experiencing this at all? Could it be that MIUI 12 has caused an issue with the app?
It's because Amazon don't put it on white list
Use Kodi if you really want to stream in HD - they are using desktop browser's API to access HD streams, so you can use F2 Pro's L1 capability there.

check this thread, similar to your issue on eu roms

Here's the deal. The second out of the box brand new Poco X4 pro 5g with EEA stock ROM is in my hands atm, there is a serious problem with this ROM. It's the newest MIUI 13.0.8 stable for EEA region. VR is simply broken, the Chrome browser VR functionality simply doesn't work (no video source found error, upon trying to play a video) as well as Google Cardboard app seems to be not connected in any way to other apps that could launch it, despite it being installed. VR services are installed too. Now I'm guessing it's the ROM in particular, because the Poco X3 Global ROM also based on Android 11 runs this without a problem.
Activity Launcher app found all VR items in the system but all are locked out and launching any of them results in a Java applet error. Launching "VR settings" returns an error about "lacking features to launch".
Any idea what am I facing? Vr videos blocked because of underpowered Snapdragon 695? I doubt it, as my old Redmi Note 7 pro runs VR without issues. Any help would be appreciated. I can provide more info if needed. Ask away.
I just wanted to let you know I am facing identical problems. My Poco X4 Pro 5g has the same issue with VR. I found that Youtube VR does work, but in other places I just get a fully black video with audio playing (head tracking, the on screen menu and controls do work). After installing the Google Cardboard apps still indicate I should install google cardboard.
I had this right out of the box, just installing all available updates.
I've tried changing the screen refresh rate, switching between "When device is in VR" reduce blur to reduce flicker and from buttons to the full screen display. None of it works.
I'm on MIUI Global 13.0.9 Stable 13.0.9.0(RKCEUXM)
Android: 11 RKQ1.211001.001
Model: 2201116PG
Hi, I observed same issues. With chrome I've got the no video source error and with firefox it was the black video with only playing audio. All other controls worked fine.
What I tried so far:
- installed google ar services(I have read somewere that they are necessary for WebXR) but am not sure that they are running.
- changed refresh rates from 60 to 120hz.
- installed more browsers, but most of them have the "no video source" issue.
- Enabled VR Helper in Settings
- Reinstalled Google VR Services and Cardboard App
I compared with another phone were it is working with same chrome version. I tried to reproduce it but and uninstalled cardboard and also vr services. With uninstalled cardboard it still keeps going. With uninstalled VR Services it shows the 360 view of the video but as I try to switch to vr mode chrome ask me to install VR Services.
Another thing is also strange. The old phone asked me for permission to use VR services but the new one does not. (Permission is enabled as "ask for it")
But, it feels like that there is something missing. Any, library or connection to cardboard api.
I have a Redmi 11 pro 5g and with no custom roms or similar currently.
