[SOLVED] How to monitor network connections in Android 12? - General Questions and Answers

(I posted the same question in the ROM 3d but here maybe is more well placed)
I read that something is changed in how the system manage the kernel (kernel proc files) and now all the apps that monitor the network connections didn't work anymore . (tried several and all stay forever in listening without prompt any connection or IP) . Also "Network Connections" app with root access don't work.
I can see the wi-fi icon activate and deactivate the double arrow but not traffic seems generated in "network speed monitor" (app for trace the download and upload traffic) . I also disable the network test that ping the google servers.
I would know the apps list that are using the network and the IP address they are using.
Do you know some apps that can monitor in real time network connections in android 12?

Found a solution! PCAPdroid . SDK31 work on Android 12 ! Ok is not direct and use a virtual VPN... it do the job.
I can finally stomp all the trashy apps that work in background without my consent. (or any consent in general)
PCAPdroid | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository
No-root network monitor and traffic dump tool for Android devices
f-droid.org
PCAPdroid is an open source app which lets you monitor and export the network traffic of your device. The app simulates a VPN to achieve non-root capture but, contrary to a VPN, the traffic is processed locally into the device.
Cheer !!

Hi giostark,
Thank you very much for your research! I can't believe how little information is available in the net on such an important topic. Actually I think, each OS should be able to show the user which app causes how much traffic right now, like in the Windows Task-Manager. Unfortunately, Android doesn't. And now, as you pointed out correctly, with A12 even the apps, which added this feature stopped working.
I always used the app Internet Speed Meter for that. It provides a permanent notification about the current network traffic load, which is essential to me. Sometimes I look at the notification and see that my phone has super high traffic going on right now, despite I'm not doing anything and then I just tabbed on the notification and it showed me exactly, which app was causing the traffic. This is soooo important in my opinion. Unfortunately, with A12 this stopped working. The traffic is still shown, but not which app causes it.
I now installed PCAPdroid, as you suggested, and I can confirm it works. This is awesome! However, I'm not happy with the UI. When I open the PCAPdroid notification and open the connections tab, there are many connections shown and it is not easy to find the one connection/app, which causes the actual high traffic right now. There should be a sort function. Even better would be something, where I can just see in a quick and easy way, which app causes traffic right now, as Internet Speed Meter did:

This is more an eruption than a technical post.
Without rooting the phone , AFwall+ it, disabling by hand lots of service (play service at first) with System Service (that contain adds of course , so you have to keep it off line first of launch it) , disabling the captive portal , the automatic DNS , use Warden also, with lucky patcher destroy all the hidden ads contained in the 70% of your phone ,and.... and other tons of stuff boring to list, you cant simply have control on anything exactly as is intended by the Andorid ecosystem. (and after all this , still you are not in full control eh)
Android is made from Google for Google , non for the people. As Windows is made by MS for MS.
Look , those are system services that automatically will have access to the net. They even don't fit the screen. There are many more listed in other group. (and probably some hidden in the kernel that doesn't show up)
Even NordVpn app have 4 DAMN TRACKERs. Seriously ?!?!!?!? (in some hacker site they caught that it send to some site even sensor proximity activities). Seriously ?!?!?! Yep. Even in the Linux machine I use every day I caught in the journal log that it connect to some site even at the start of the machine. And not just when you use that fk app. (trashed the company at the speed of light)
This is where we are going. And this is why now you cant log properly android.
We all are deeply sleeping . And this world will end bad. That's all.
Then... answering properly to the question if exist a better app , the answer is, will never be.
As stated also in some ROMs sub forum here we are too few for attract the interest of Google , otherwise this trashy company would have found the system for block every rom.
Every one that use a phone (apple especially) is happy. Who made this traps have exactly clear how the reward mechanics of our brain work.
We are too few that try to understand how the things are going and that try to have a wide point of view.
Almost no one know (and understand) the meaning of fallacy. Without it is basically impossible understand if a sentence is valid or not. What hope exist?
Leaving the catastrophic point of view afar , have good luck to track the stuff your phone is doing.

There is ONLY ONE WAY to prevent tracking: stop using technology.
Smartphones, laptops, etc. are all devices designed with communication in mind, which means they work by connecting to networks and exchanging information. And the entities providing the infrastructure have done so with profit in mind, in addition to tracking users.
You can never use these devices for your benefit alone.

Yep , but this don't exempt us to do our part. And if "you" don't , is also "your" guilt.
The understanding part (of the things) is fundamental. It help to operate choices. (maybe the right ones).
Understanding need effort. And this cost to us. But we are lazy.
I do not blame too much the humans. (despite I really hope in a new and massive asteroid that don't leave a second chance). By nature design the brain have to consume less ATP (energy) that it can. And it have to solve the task of the moment is the shorter time possible. While this can save life in a savanna in a long projection this is disintegrating the society. This way to go open the gate of lies and laziness.
Tech (in general) is not helping us to evolve, is helping us to become more stupid (and someone else more rich).

I agree with you that we have to do our part. My point is this: just as one must not resign to laziness, one must also not resign to living with a false sense of security.

All you have to do is look at a logcat to see all the sleazy stuff that apps are trying to do that isn't allowed and generates errors to extrapolate to all the stuff that they are getting away with.
That's another reason not to run your device on permissive.

Cell Profiler 1.0 Official Release (location based profiles)

'Cell Profiler' announcement by Pocket OOZ
(2th May 2004)
'Cell Profiler' is a location based profile manager for all HTC phones running Windows Mobile 2003 Phone Edition (XDA/XDA2/MDA/MDA2/I-MATE/QTEK).
'Cell Profiler' - a unique software for Windows Mobile 2003 Phone Edition
that allows you to trigger events based on your current location.
It's been designed to run all the time in the background of your PDA - even when the device is turned off.
That's the reason why it has been written in pure ansi C - no MFC, no Visual Basic.
'Cell Profiler' utilizes special data which GSM networks provide to determine the PDAs current location.
This service is free, except the small fee you have to pay for the 'Cell Profiler' software itself.
'Cell Profiler' can automatically mute your device upon entering your office
or it could display notes that you've took during the weekend as soon as you
enter the campus area.
But there is much more power in this application,
'Cell Profiler' can automatically wake you up once your train arrives at it's
destination or it changes your today theme when you come home.
There are much more events that you can assosicate to a cell which will can
be triggered upon entering it:
-Change Device Volume
-Change Phone Volume
-Send a SMS to a Pocket Outlook contact
( tell someone that you are now at your destination,
tell your wife that you are coming home,
useful for theft protection,
and much more... )
-Start an executable file ( exe )
-Start an audio file ( mp3, wma, ogg, wav, midi )
-Change your current today theme ( tsk files )
-Display a picture ( jpeg, bmp )
-Open a Pocket Word document ( psw )
-Open a Pocket Excel document ( pxl )
-Open a note file ( pwi )
-Open standard text file ( txt )
It is also possible to log a whole trip, every cell from start to end with the login time of each cell. You can save such a route to load it at a later time
or send it to another 'Cell Profiler' user via Infrared or Bluetooth.
Sometimes there are multiple cells for an area like a big office,
to prevent the user from having 5 profiles for the same area,
he can group these 5 cells to a group and assign the same profile to all cells.
But using groups doesn't limit the user to the same profile for each cell in a group - it's optional.
'Cell Profiler' can also show you detailed information about the cell you are
currently logged into ( like signal strength in DBM ). The windows contents
will be expanded with further versions as we do more research on what type of
information can be recieved from the network for free.
It is also possible to export or import selected groups and their cell ids.
Exporting or importing will only export the cell's name and id - no profile is
beeing exported or imported.
'Cell Profiler' offers you to automatically send the exported data via
Infrared or Bluetooth.
This future for this feature is to 'share' information about the GSM cells with other users using the internet to create a hugh online database, which
'Cell Profiler' again could contact to tell you where you are at using a GPRS online connection.
'Cell Profiler' by 'Pocket OOZ' will be released on 5th May 2004.
It will be avaiable as fullversion or trial download at
www.pocketland.de and www.handago.com.
The registration for the fullversion costs 20EURO/25$ including free updates for all
future versions of 'Cell Profiler'.
There is also a competition that will end at 5th may. The person that designs the best homepage and writes a good readme.txt file will get the fullversion for free. Informations at [email protected]
The links to the product download pages will appear at 5th may at http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=104515

yes, for a profile manager it would be a little bit much. but this application can do much more, just read the press release

but maybe i will lower the price until the release, depends on the feedback i get now.

I absolutely agree, it's more than a simple profile manager, but there remains the fact that if you do not really need all the advanced options on a regular basis, it's too expensive.
For me a range between 2,50 EUR and 5 EUR (regarding upcoming updates) would be O.K. That's an amount of money that is easily spent, even without consideration.
I think you should consider that in most cases manual selection of the phone profile is more useful than an automatic setting. Especially if it is based on a not really exact position sensing.
At the moment, your tool afaik lacks manual override and a convenient manual change of the settings. How about adding an CP on/off-Button and a few profiles selectable via tray-icon?
I agree with Slartibartfass. I think I would continue to use Pocket Zen Phone even if I had the 'Cell Profiler' on my XDAII. Given how much time is invested into Pocket Zen Phone its too hard for 'Cell Profiler' to catch it on the profile management arena anyways.
It was interesting to note that dutty seems to be doing the same. I am sure I spotted the 4 buttoned interfance of jgui's Phone Seriously on dutty's Today screen.
exactly. you can use both applications and they will not conflict with each other!
i'll add an CP on/off button which you can use to enable or disable CP usage no problem - that's why the release is delayed to the 5th.
keep in mind that you do not have to use CP for volume changes you can also send SMS to your girlfriend on your way home, you can play music when your train arrives in it's destination time.. maybe Cell "PROFILER" was the wrong name, everybody thinks of volume profiles and only volume profiles when they hear the word "PROFILE"
EDIT: btw, and I do think that 5$ is far to low for such an application. a lot of time has been spent on it and i'm a student with no money..

I think that would be an appropriate price. A price I would be willing to pay for a software that is more some sort of proof of concept than a sofware I would really use on daily basis.
Let me illustrate my point of view:
It's O.K. for me to pay 9$ for vBirthday 3.2, because I like the option to have birthdays shown on the tody screen without having appointments in my calendar. But I wouldn't pay 25$, I would rather ignore birthdays or have a few appointments in my agenda.
Maybe my threshold of pain is slightly lower than that of others (must be like that, there seem to be many people buying ringtones and logos for 3€ each).
If the trial-release is crippleware like the demo I think most people will install - have a short look, uninstall and forget your software seeing the price tag.
But if it only costs a few bucks, maybe they invest the amount and try the real thing, no matter if they really use the application later or not. I think it is easier convincing 20 peple paying 5$ than 5 people paying 20$.
If you really want to make money with that product, you should try to develop a complete application, for example some sort of "kid's mobile" which automatically phones mummy when Bob is leaving the homezone...
well, okay. i asked most people and they said 20? would be a good price, i asked people i don't know in person they only knew waht the programm will be able to do.

please don't mix up things. the thing you call demo was a proof of concept beta release.
considering that birthday is an out-of-the-box feature and that you're ready to spend 9$ on a software that does nothing but what already exist, I don't really see what's the issue with paying a litlle extra for a soft that can do *really* much than what exists in standard.
unless you consider of course that you can do the same by a simple configuration of your device.
I'm not skilled enough on the PPC development to estimate the exact development effort for this tool, but it should be in the range of a zillion more than for a birthday software.
my 2 cents

It said "DEMO" on my screen.
And it only allowed editing only one cell, setting the volume on all other cells to 100%, which isn't really useable even as a trial, especially if your phone continues to switch between two cells at your house.
Btw. - pretty heavy restrictions for a "proof of concept beta release"??

[Offtopic] For me knowing birthdays without having them in my PPC and Lotus-Notes-Agenda ist something really useful, which can't be done with the standard-application. I also use Pocket Informant, because the calender is a bit better than the integratedone (month-view with mini-text).
The main difference to Phone Profiler is, that for me the tools mentioned above really simplify the everyday-handling while PP is nice to have, but more the kind of goodie like a nice ringtone.

So what? Nobody forced "dutty" to develop this tool and not a calender-plugin.
well it was a beta demo.. yes maybe it said demo because it is build using the same compiler defines as the demo (if youknow little about coding)
i just wanted to show the world that it is possible to do what minigps is doing for symbianos because everybody said it was impossible.
btw, people are paying 25$ for minigps and it's ok. and cell profiler can do much more, and a today plugin like zenphone or jgui phone seriously is planned. i think that 20$ is ok.
oh and, i all my co-workers and friend who use cell profiler think it's one of the best applications and they say that's how phone edition should be. so it's an everyday application, plus i use it to wake me up in the train or tell me friends when i'm arriving at mcdonalds or the cinema.
ofcourse if you don't want to pay 20$ you don't have to
debate about value...
Just my .02 worth...
There's a debate about whether the application is worth $20-25.
In basic terms, value is based on the perception of the individuals who use it. While it may be worth $25 to one person, it may only be worth $5 to another.
Dutty has to identify a price that will target both individuals. Too high, few will purchase it, too low and he will make little money off of it.
And, if a competitor designs an application with the same features and just as reliable, well competition will deal with the pricing.
As such, let competition roar on.

zendrui vs jgui... I rest my case. Not saying dutty should go donationware but ultimately market makes or breaks products not the developers contrary to popular belief.
Lets leave dutty be for now so he meets his 5th May commitment and avoids joining the ever increasing list of pocket pc vaporware hall of fame.
PS. Pre-announcing products and starting a price debate really takes guts. Apple barely survives each time (ref ipod min debacle etc...). Well done dutty but do please show us you can deliver too.

Navigation using cells
There is a group of enthusiasts maintaining a list of GSM cells (BTS) in our country.
The list also contains coordinates of each cell (resolved by GPS).
So could you modify your applicaton to calculate the position from few closest cells?
Because if you know your distance (calculated from time advance - signal delay) from closest cells (at least 3) and if you also know coordinates of those cells, you can calculate your position.
Each GSM phone knows the closest (active) cell, and the distance from it. It also monitors few (usually 6) other cells and distance from them - because of handover.
The best solution would be to write a "GPS" driver - driver which will retrieve the list of closest cells (and distances) from radiostack and also the database of cells (silmle XLS with cellID and coords). This driver will calculate the position and will be compatible with other GPS drivers - so it would be able to communicate with all map applications (but with not that good precision).
There is also a service called "T-Mobile Locator" which does it all - but it costs money and is not compatible with PocketPC. You can obtain your coordinates (or coordinates of other phone - if you know its LocationPIN). And if you have installed the map software (provided by TMO), you can see phone's position on the map. But only on desktop PC.

I'm thumbing it down because if you want to seriously put forth an idea that big you should do it in a professional manner. Not 3 exclamation points here and yelling in all caps there and a number of blatantly misspelled words.
You do have a choice.
If you don't like the interface, don't buy the device.
Totally agree that these bloatware skins should be an optional componant! Microsoft have done the right thing for now in making manufacturers release their WP7 devices without these annoying extras.
I want the stock Android experience and nothing more, which is why i own a Nexus.
You can't disallow it, Android is open source right? They can do whatever they want. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

I'm sure they have some rules and conditions, I think these regard the Google apps. However I'm not really into this licenseing stuff. All I know is that Android is under the Apache and GPL licenses, and those are open source. Maybe someone with more knowledge can fill us in. I'm not liking this either, but I don't think there is much to be done about it.

As far as I know I have read maybe a year ago something about Google considering how/when/if allow producers to make changes to Android. The best way in my opinion would be choose after unboxing or hard-reset.
BTW I don't expect Google to change policy tomorrow... I'm just curious about reactions of YOU - Android users ;o)
It's a nice idea and I'm pretty sure that in a perfect war and disease-free world it may actually be possible, but alas we don't live in one. Right now you would need a revolution, comparable to a huge coup d'etat, in order to actually do something about this. And the "If you don't like it, don't buy it." argument is actually applicable here, because THERE ARE devices without a limiting, resource-leech interface (the Nexuses are a perfect example).

Yeah that's what we have to choose from, besides custom roms. But keep in mind that we here at xda aren't normal users. Normal users(and by that I mean the majority) are perfectly happy with HTC Sense or even Motoblur. Hell these customizations might even sell phones, I'm pretty sure Sense does at least.
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
But these normal users are curious about e.g "why is USB-Connected icon still on my display even I have disconnected the device" and experienced user will tell this normal user "yeah that is because of producer customizations" and normal user say "I don't like these customizations, I just want my phone working"... this problem is just an example and there are MANY other bigger issues e.g. PERFORMANCE issues and believe me even normal user will eventually meet someone, who will explain that producers customizations are evil or he/she would read an article on the web about performance problem caused by producers customizations... Many times normal users can find it out by themselves => don't underestimate "normal" users!

When these "normal"/"casual" users stumble on an error, caused by a crappy producer's customization, they either try to fix it, or send it to someone, who actually knows what he is doing. If the error turns out to be "genetically unfixable", they search for another, more stable device. At least 80% percent of the time, this substitution turns out to be the iPhone. This is one of the main reasons the iPhone is still prefered by "casual" users over Android and Windows Mobile.
Android, being open-source is bound to have producers, trying to make it better and more user-friendly. You can't change that.

The Nexii are the ONLY example.
I hate when this kind of things happen.

That is the question IF (or how long) Google let the producers put a dirt on the Android. Like MS with Windows Mobile.
The saddest thing is that we get crippled phones just because operators don't want us to get features. The DMCA takedown on Xoom dumps is just pathetic.
Also I love the HTC Sense. But if I want it gone, I will just install a Nexus ROM.
And Moto phones... They actually blocked non-market apps. Moto is replacing Microsoft in my 1984 companies list (Ironically)
BTW there is no need to DISALLOW producers their customizations. Google can only make policy to leave option to the user on the first start So any user can choose to install all producers customizations OR leave Android clean and if user desides to try the customizations so there can be option to install it additionally. It is only on Google and I'm sure, that if Google wants Android to have a good name they will make policy to leave options on users or even forbid all customizations (but this would be bad to forbid it completelly). My guess is that Google will restrict customizations only on some not-system-necessary parts like wallpapers, skins etc. We will see but I think that Google knows that producers customizations were between other things fundamentally responsible for doom of Windows Mobile.

Hello all,
I'm sure that all of Android users has noticed, how the changes made by producers (e.g. HTC, Samsung) can significantly SLOW down or even make Android UNSTABLE. Please support my suggestion to DISALLOW these changes and leave it OPTIONAL NOT FORCED by producers:

[Suggestions & Discussions] Why mobile security matters

Hey XDAian...
Here I am back again for few suggestions & discussion.
Based on some pretty interesting facts about "mobile in general", The smartphone segment has brought accessibility to millions around the world, at work and at home. Naturally, all the data in those devices, wirelessly accessible, becomes a gold mine for those with nefarious motives to exploit.
On the work front, smartphones are a huge contributor to productivity. At home, they provide meaningful and useful (and sometimes redundant) ways to stay in touch with friends and family. The more of these devices we buy, the bigger the opportunity is for criminals, because there are so many ways to get the data. We might lose a device, or its is stolen, we might download a bad application, or soon brush against an NFC tag or visit a bad web-page. The possibilities are so diverse compared to a PC or server farm hardwired to the internet.
With the tremendous growth of the smartphone market not expected to slow down anytime soon, people and organizations must be vigilant in guarding against breaches of their data and/or personal information. Even as organized hackers work on ways to score the high-value breach, they are working on high-volume, low-risk attacks against weaker targets as well.
In addition to some tips about securing mobile devices, the infographic has some interesting facts from 2011 in there as well, such as 855 breaches resulted in the theft of 174 million records.
We Need some Security Applications for preventing our valuable data (like Msgs, Contacts, Pin codes etc). Therefore, from my side this thread belong to all XDAians.
Please suggest the latest, finest Applications & few tremendous suggestion from all Devs, RC, RD & Members.
I like a Security based Application called LBE Privacy Guard to Prevent sending data through various applications installed at our Mobile.:good:

As this OP thread may become too long so, for Batter view just press "Show Contents" for there suggestions.
This One is provided by Our Great Sr.MOD Justin:
Personally, I place little emphasis on mobile security. Things like antivirus, password protectors etc. make sense if you store a lot of mission-critical, sensitive data on your phone, or frequent a lot of open hotspots, leave your Bluetooth on and 'visible' in public places, but otherwise just chew battery, CPU cycles and money.
I can appreciate the need for such things, in some instances (proper business users, etc.). I have little faith in an app to look after my security however, and would instead recommend a few lifestyle changes where possible, to improve your security:
1. Never use open, public WiFi. If you must, never use it for sites you log into, sites that control your money, or sites that contain other sensitive information. Doesn't take much for that guy outside McDonalds on his laptop to be sniffing packets.
2. Turn on Bluetooth and NFC only when you intend to use them. Not only do you save precious battery, you ensure that your close-range transmission technologies are only on when you need them, and not at other times. Also, set a unique Bluetooth passcode for your device, rather than the generic '0000'.
3. Never let your browser remember any passwords.
4. When setting passwords and PINs, never use a bank PIN, and always use 'leetspeak' for your passwords. For example, I would like my password for XDA to be 'firewood'. Rather than just typing it, try substituting letters for numbers, like this: F1r3W00d. Mix up your capital and lower-case letters, even substitute characters for letters or numbers. Do anything you can to ensure your passwords don't resemble anything from a dictionary!
I have no idea whether these steps have helped, but I haven't been the victim of online identity theft yet - even my passwords have never been compromised.
I think it's something we should always keep in mind, but never worry too much about. The risk is always there but it's a big, wide world.
This One is provided by Our Great buddy Adam77root:
Mobile security is getting more and more important nowadays. But the worst is that people don't know about and are not aware of the security issues that all pose a high threat to gadget users. There are plenty of ways for which stolen data can be used for and most of the people don't even think of themselves being impersonated by hackers.
Because of the design of the Android system it's very easy to write fully-featured malwares for this platform as the permissions are not handled on a low native (even kernel) level, but there are the Android permissions most of you are already aware of. A lot of users don't read through the permissions that the application they install asks for, making it easy to fool them.
Hackers usually give such application and package names that they are very similar to those of the inner Android system, so the users don't delete those apps after a little Google search.
Coding in Java is extremely easy, you don't even have to free memory, as the garbage collector does that for you. This opens this platform for the so-called script-kiddies who are wannabe 'hackers' and want to create the 'best malware ever'. They're dangerous as there are a lot of them. There are also a lot of prebuilt libraries for Java, which can be used for making for example network communication easy.
If such an application is installed on a system, its easy to root the victim's device, opening a new way to compromise the OS. There are methods to root a great deal of devices (of course excluding some) and plant a rootkit on them for a longer stay. For example the app is then moved to the system partition where it cannot be deleted from.
Most of the modern malwares communicate through the internet with their author. If somebody uses a 2G/3G data connection and has no or limited data plan, it may cost high amount of money for the user. For example: Here, in Hungary, lot of teenagers use 0.facebook.com which allows them to browse Facebook without paying for it. Just imagine their parents when they get the bill because of a hacker.
I, personally, do not use any antiviruses on my phone. Even, I use only a free AVG on my Windows PC and nothing on my Linux box. Every system can be hacked and all AV-s can be bypassed. Sometimes I check the autorun apps to see if there isn't any suspicious.
To sum up: I advise you not to download/install any suspicious app on your phones and if you notice some strange network activity, do a deeper inspection on it and wipe your data (very important as most of the malwares are still installed there) or reflash your system if you want to make sure everything.
Here is few more points from our great RC Selva.simple.
Mobile security not only matters about protecting our data from phising and virus attacks but also protecting it when v lost our device. Because a smartphone falling into wrong hands can cause so much of trouble. So just wanna list down following points interms of mobile security
* When u buy a new smartphone, take a mobile-insurance along with it (atleast for an year). We may sometime doesn't know its importance. But it matters a lot. It comes around of 3% of mobile cost. Keep your bills and insurance papers safely.
* For all important personal contents (Contacts, Pics, Videos, Docs, Messages) you store in smartphone, have a secondary backup in your system or hard disk. It comes in handy when ur phone is totally dead or lost. Take this backup atleast once in two months. Lots of software available for this.
* Use personal lock apps like "Keep safe" to lock/hide your personal data.
* Use Mobile security apps like "Lookup" or "Avast". Even if not for its ant-virus feature, but must for its features of "Anti-theft" features. Apps that help in locating the device if in case the mobile is stolen and kept on.Or when your sim card is replaced with a new sim, sending out a sms from the new sim to a pre-configured number.
* Apart from all these, an important feature is to destroy all your personal contents (complete Erase) in your mobile if in case it is stolen. This will prevent our data falling in hands of wrong people.More than device, our data matters a lot.
I'm a personal victim of a stolen mobile phone, my Wave II. Since that was the time, i flashed a leaked Bada 2.0, no data was there in my mobile. So atleast i was happy with that. I had my mobile insurance which got me the 80% of money which led my way to Android world via Galaxy R.

This is what i was telling in whole thread buddy. Security is as much as essential like security of ur bank account. If a unknown person is having ur personal data, it means u are in big trouble. So, for security point of view we must have knowledge abt the same.
Edit: thats why i asked fron Devs/RC/RD to come ahead and provide us the right path of security.

AppLocker is a SW which lets you Lock ANYTHING n EVERYTHING in your phone,
you can lock, Messages,Contacts,Mail,Gallaery, etc etc, if you wish, you can lock all the apps, by just selecting LOCK ALL option, which is there in the App.
AFARIA is a device administrator, it is used by professionals whose mails and calender events strictly private/confidential,
my brother works for HP, he uses this app, and ofc it is recommended by the company,
he cannot access his mails and events, if this app is disable or enabled,
in his Galaxy Note he has installed it, and all the security options like swipe, number lock is disabled...
only Password is available, you cant set anyother lock other than Password...
If you try to remove this app, all your mails, events and personal data will be deleted

FAQ
below are few questions which might help you to update FAQ in OP :
1) Can we change/contol the permissions of an application in a rooted/non-rooted phone dynamically ? could any adverse effect if i do this ?
2) I there any encryption software which encrypt stored data/password (remembered password etc)? is this required ( or android inharit encryption is sufficient ) ?
3) what is meaning of basic permissions in layman's terms ?
4) if i trust application A and give it sensitive permissions and application B does not required major permission ; is it possible application B gain access of application A's data instead of direct access of system data ? how dangerous it is and if there any example out there?
5) any indication on device (behaviour) through which i can find out if my device is hacked/leaking information etc ??
6) is andorid secure then windos in normal uses terms ? for example is it more secure if i use a bank website on my android phone insted of my anti-virous protected windows machine or vice-versa ?

Well, you kinda have us doing this.
And this
Because the improbability and absurdity of what you posted is a little ..... beyond words.
At the minimum you should have at least said what kind of phone you have. You provided absolutely NO information for anyone to even attempt to try and help you.
Pretend like im an idiot....easily done by all you smart mutha ****as..... and step by step tell me bx i am not even trying to act a little like i know what im talking about
First off, I don't think it's really necessary to pretend.
Secondly, calling people names is no way to get help. But it is a good way to get hammered by the moderators.
Xprivacy is an xposed module that is for protecting your privacy. I use it as do many others. It's a great app. It's not spyware.
What phone do you have? Carrier? Rooted? Custom rom? Xposed?
It is incredibly unlikely that an xposed module just appeared on your phone. You might have accidently clicked it at some point while looking on the xposed repository?
And even if there are apps and spyware on your phone that you didn't put there, there is no way you're going to be able to prosecute anyone. Kinda comes with the territory of having technology.
Don't like it...get an iPhone.

I appreciate your stating what is most likely considered the obvious.
I must say, i do not believe that, simply bx i live in the year 2016 and own a smartphone, something like this should be not only expected, but commonplace and laughable. My faux pas while asking for help was to not include obvious key indicators that would help my problem get solved faster, and help me not look like such a twit . The real issue here, imho, is..... is no one concerned about what is a clear and blatant invasion of privacy? I appreciate the fact that anyone using this app, or on this forum is light years ahead of me in terms of my computer knowledge, and, yes, i stumbled upon double apps, files that dont make sense, draining battery, just things that refuse to fit in to logic, by a very novice mistake. Then as i looked further, i began to fit the pieces together.
I can't believe that with technology such as rooting, rebuilding and controlling a phone, all hidden from the primary user/account holder, there is no way to track someone who is committing such a crime.
I am willing to do the work. I just need to know where to start.
I am a daughter, a sister, a mother, a girlfriend, a friend. Please put me in the shoes of someone who fills one of those roles for you and think of your reaction when this story is presented to you from their life experience.
Im asking for a little help to protect myself from the fear, anger, unknown use of my personal info, and just plain creepiness that accompanies this predatory hack.
Any help is appreciated.

This is a lot better. As a father of four daughters, and brother of three sisters, I can appreciate your concern.
Regardless of that. I stand by my first statement of the impossibility of this all. I have been doing this for quite awhile.
First off, did you root? If not it is impossible to do without physical possession of your phone. IMPOSSIBLE,
Second, you still have not said what kind of phone you have. Some phones are not possible to root.
Third, If you indeed have Android N Preview, again physical access to your phone is required.
It is impossible to install double apps. It can't be done. Icons may look the same, but applications duplicated, impossible.
If Xprivacy is installed, XPrivacy can prevent applications from leaking privacy sensitive data. It requires another application called Xposed Framework. Xprivacy as stated is a good thing.
Bottom line, nothing could have been done to your phone remotely. It would have to be done with at least 30-60 minutes of physical access to your phone.
With someone with knowledge about such things. If you know someone like that, guess you don't have to look to far.

I could have sworn i stated that my phone is a sprint Samsung g s5. Yes, i am very aware of who has had possession of my phone. I just need the proof. So, i included uploads of a bug report, and several screen shots noting the phone has been rooted and the fake and real starts to apps, etc. In the bug report there is an account number but i dont know to what account and its on page, like, 6000 or something.
So, my g s5 has 2 chromes, 3 clock apps, 2 context somethings, 4 bluetooth test apps, a bunch of stuff idk, new files, etc. My hidden files suddenly say 'root' numerous times, also say things like fake-this and hidden sharing, lots of libstagefright, libtoolbox, lib audio, this is just the very beginning of pages upon pages of allshares, content readers, on and on. So, yes, i imagine xprivacy is to keep the hacker safe, i do have android n, telephony, all sorts of back up data apps, clouds, 3 different launchers, 1 is mine, there's chameleon and easy something too, i mean, i know im not nuts. The camera apps and audio apps lead me to believe i can be watched and heard at any given moment. The lengths that this hacker went to to remain unidentified is absurd. But the real absurdity is that i have discovered all of this, so now i need to be able to prove , with no room to weasel out, that the hacker has done this purposefully and with only one intent.
I have already been educated about how illegal immigrants steal the numbers off phones and use them to commit crimes, by bouncing ip addresses, etc, this knowledge came to me shortly after i began focusing on my phone issues. So, i am now playing with scorching hot fire to beat the clock and get answers b4 something happens to not only the files and info i carry with me, but i have become afraid of what might happen to me, as well.... so.... if i am at all off base, i will tuck my tail and retreat from this point, i do not believe with any slight random bit of my overactive imagination that i am wrong. If you need more file names or copies of, i am happy to provide.
Please forgive my attitude earlier. I am in a panic and no one has listened, much yet taken me seriously, and i just dont know what the end result will uncover. Thank you, thank you

I've reread from the beginning and you have never stated model of phone. And not sure where you uploading bug reports and screenshots. It's not in this thread.
Since you have an S5, The Android N Developer Preview is available for Pixel C, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus 5X.
I'm not sure you are going to find any legal precedence to do anything against anyone who had possession of your phone with your knowledge.
Personally I think you are overacting. But before you go off the rails, on a rant that I'm not helping.
My opinion of you overacting is based on your short term research. Yes there are things possible, but again highly unlikely.
Again, in my opinion your phone has not been hacked. You stated you knew someone had your phone. Someone installed applications on it, and the most possible way is, through the Google Play Store or through Samsung Apps. Which require accounts.....
It takes more knowledge to install them, which would require root access, manually.
From Wikipedia (not saying it's gospel) I don't know where you live, don't want to, but this "should" be reference enough regarding rooting in the US
United States
Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) rooting is illegal in the United States except by exemption. The U.S. Copyright Office currently grants phones an exemption to this law "at least through 2015".[41]
In 2010, in response to a request by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the U.S. Copyright Office explicitly recognized an exemption to the DMCA to permit rooting.[42][43] In their ruling, the Library of Congress affirmed on July 26, 2010 that rooting is exempt from DMCA rules with respect to circumventing digital locks. DMCA exemptions must be reviewed and renewed every three years or else they expire.
On October 28, 2012, the US Copyright Office updated their exemption policies. The rooting of smartphones continues to be legal "where circumvention is accomplished for the sole purpose of enabling interoperability of [lawfully obtained software] applications with computer programs on the telephone handset." However, the U.S. Copyright office refused to extend this exemption to tablets, arguing that the term "tablets" is broad and ill-defined, and an exemption to this class of devices could have unintended side effects.[44][45][46] The Copyright Office also renewed the 2010 exemption for unofficially unlocking phones to use them on unapproved carriers, but restricted this exemption to phones purchased before January 26, 2013.[45]
Tim Wu, a professor at Columbia Law School, argued in 2007 that jailbreaking is "legal, ethical, and just plain fun."[47] Wu cited an explicit exemption issued by the Library of Congress in 2006 for personal unlocking, which notes that locks "are used by wireless carriers to limit the ability of subscribers to switch to other carriers, a business decision that has nothing whatsoever to do with the interests protected by copyright" and thus do not implicate the DMCA.[48] Wu did not claim that this exemption applies to those who help others unlock a device or "traffic" in software to do so.[47] In 2010 and 2012, the U.S. Copyright Office approved exemptions to the DMCA that allow users to root their devices legally.[49] It is still possible to employ technical countermeasures to prevent rooting or prevent rooted phones from functioning.[50] It is also unclear whether it is legal to traffic in the tools used to make rooting easy.[50]
At minimum from what have experienced and understand, you root you're phone you void your warranty. From what I have read from people that have jacked up there phone from rooting or a process that was available because it was rooted, they just got a new phone.
Myself included.
Based on what you have written, again I believe you are overacting without personally looking at the phone. Some of the apps and files you describe, some are the base software. libstagefright, libaudio, whatever are part of the Android operating system.
Camera, clock apps etc. are easily installed, with an account on Google or Samsung App stores. Now is it illegal from someone that has physical possession of your phone to install an account on there to install apps.... Don't know, probably not. But malicious intent would have to be proven I imagine.
Also based on what read, I said I believe you are overreacting.
But this statement --->"So, i am now playing with scorching hot fire to beat the clock and get answers b4 something happens to not only the files and info i carry with me, but i have become afraid of what might happen to me, as well"
I'm not sure what this means.
I'm not trying to diminish or ignore your concerns.
BUT
Since you say you know who had the phone, and hopefully I have made you understand that anything on it, had to be done with the phone in their possession, my suggestion is YOU stop messing with it and take it someone qualified to investigate what is on it.
The very first thing that is done is make an exact copy of it.
If you are not going to do that, not sure how far you are going to get with what you seek.
How to find accounts that were used to install apps
http://www.androidcentral.com/how-set-accounts-samsung-galaxy-s5
If the account is not on your phone, without it, proving what was installed is difficult. Google keeps a record. Logging into the account will show what was installed and when. But only with the account name and password.
BUT AGAIN
The more you mess with it, the less chances there are to "prove" the purpose or intent of the person that had YOUR phone, installing these apps.
reset the phone to factory settings
and choose another account with Google
I've never heard of this
Save only your important data to your computer. Like photos and documents.
Then go into settings and look for the option to reset your phone. Reset it to factory. If it gives you an option to format your SD card do that too.
Go to your Google account and reset your password and any security questions.
Check your device or app activity and disconnect anything you don't recognize.
Then sign in to your Google account on your phone.
If your phone is somehow rooted this probably won't unroot it. To be sure download an app from the Play Store called root checker and run it. It will tell you if you're rooted or not. You can uninstall root checker once you've verified your root status.
If you're not rooted then you're good to go and can start redownloading your apps and putting all your files back on your SD card (make sure to format the card via your phone).
If you're rooted look for an app on your phone called super user or supersu or something similar. In the settings of supersu is an option to unroot your phone. Once unrooted then set your phone back up how you like.
Only install apps from a source your know, like the play store, and make sure you have all the security settings enabled like verify apps. Also make sure to not allow third party app installation.
These are some steps to get you going in the right direction.
As far as pursuing any guilty parties, if you're afraid of what might happen then leave it alone and don't put yourself back in a position to repeat the situation. If it's someone you know then confront them and take whatever actions you deem necessary.

[APP][5.0+][TOOLS] Pass2Pay - Add your pkpass or pdf passes to Google Pay

As an Android user, I've been complaining for a long time about one of the biggest faults, the administration of passes and tickets for events.
The funniest thing is that it does have the possibility of doing it through Google Pay, but the way they have implemented it, forces the companies that generate the passes to perform a lot of steps that most are not willing to do.
That's why I've decided to create this app that uses all the Google tools to solve this problem, allowing to import almost any type of pass to our Google Pay account so we can use them very easily.
Pass2Pay.
The specific application is called Pass2Pay, and unlike many others that just store them so you can open them in your application. Pass2Pay, allows you to import them directly into Google Pay.
Thanks to this step, you will be able to automatically consult all your passes and use them in all your devices, since Google will save them in its cloud so you never lose them.

How are passes imported?
As you can see in the image above, importing passes can be done in several ways. From the possibility of directly adding an Apple pkpass file, a PDF by reading the barcode or QR or directly from an image that can be captured on the spot.
Once imported, depending on the method used, we will have more or less data from the pass, so the next step will be the revision of the form, from where we can change the type of pass (Offers, airline tickets, gift cards, loyalty cards, etc.) and even modify some missing data.
Google Pay.
The next step is only to add the generated pass to Google Pay, for which we only have to press the button below and we can save it.
Once inside the Google application, we can use it whenever we want to benefit from all the possibilities of Google Pay, such as notification of events, integration with the calendar or the ability to enter the sites without the need to be looking for the typical PDF they send us by mail.
Example.
To check it out, we tried an old movie ticket to go see a Star Wars movie.
In the photos above you can see the steps to follow:
1. We have sent ourselves the pass by telegram to simulate a real situation.
2. We have opened it and the application has recognized it and has detected all the data
3. We gave him to keep on the phone
4. We cared about Google Pay and we were able to use it
As you can see it has been very simple to import a pass that was sent to us, after doing it we could go to the cinema and present it so that they let us in without having to carry the pdf or anything.
Advertising and contributions.
Due to the fact that the application is free, and it has cost me a lot to create it, I have decided that in order to finance it and be able to continue developing interesting things, advertisements will be used, which are limited so that no more than a long ad appears every 3 minutes. I think it's a good ratio to use it comfortably, but I listen to your opinions.
Anyway, if you like the app you can support it with a donation that removes the ads.
Coming soon.
• Possibility of uploading personalized photos to the passes (we need to create and maintain a server so it will cost money / donations)
• Improvements in overall stability
• More ways to import documents
• OCR reading of the PDFs

I don’t understand the personalized photos option in the coming soon section. Who is limiting that? Your app or Google?

To send the pass to Google Pay, we have to create it and then send it to their servers. But they do not accept pictures, we have to upload the photos to a server and give the URL to Google.
Where are the images stored? The comments on Reddit make it seem like there's a potential security issue here. Can you clear that up?

Right now we are not uploading the photos anywhere, it's in the coming soon section. Maybe I don't explain it very well as English is not my first language (A lot of people asked already what's the problem with the images in the app... :silly
The problem, it's that Google it's telling us that we have to take care of the images hosting but we don't have the resources to create a server and upload everybody images in there. So right now, we are just taking care of the pases information, the image it's just a static one (our logo). But if the people like our app we plan to make a server to upload the photos.
PS. The comments on Reddit it's because a failure, with the ads outside Europe with Adblock, but we think that it's solved now in v2.7.2 or v2.7.3

Thnx
Thank you everyone for your help and comments.
We are receiving so much love and a lot of comments and issues, about some little problems that we are starting to solve. Probably tomorrow we will push an update with a lot of improvements
Also, we are starting to plan the option to upload custom images that everybody is asking us, but it’s difficult because we have to create a server to host your images.
We will keep you updated here

I see great potential in your app. The idea is brilliant and I believe everyone who uses Google Pay needs it. Google should have introduced something like this a long time ago but it looks that it wouldn't plan it anytime soon.
But let me ask you something: while there is a lot of things to do to make the application really operative, do you believe that it is a good idea to bother with your own server? Think not only about needed technical engagement but also about decent security, fast communication, etc. There are so many cloud solutions to rent (even from Microsoft or Google) with top performance, backup and security that it is at least questionable if it is worth to burn your own staff, technical capacity, and money. Perhaps you're more needed for further development.

Thank you very much for your comment I really appreciate it.
Sure, we are not planning to create the server on our machines. When I said "create a server" I refer to design the architecture, technologies, APIs and everything.
But thanks for the advise :highfive:
One thing I would like to recommend is a feature for dealing with websites that don't expose Apple Wallet pass download links unless you are on an iPhone. An easy way to implement this feature is to allow users to "Share..." a webpage to Pass2Pay and then have Pass2Pay display an in-app browser window of that page, but with the user agent faked to appear as an iPhone, tricking the site into displaying the Apple Wallet pass download link.

An example of this functionality can be seen in the app Pass2U, which has the functionality I mentioned (though the resulting passes are saved in the app itself). As for example websites where this feature is needed, that is a bit tough, as you would have to buy a ticket to see it in action. I know for a fact that American Airlines does this as well as my local movie theater, but that probably isn't much help.

Hey man! Nice app you made here! I'm trying it and I'm running into a problem though: When I try to add my boarding pass (via PDF, completing all the missing fields), the app says the flight number is wrong when I try to upload it to Google Pay (flight number VY1572, I've even tried with other shared codes like IB5050). Do you have an idea as to what could I be doing wrong?
Thank you so much, keep up the good work!!

Hi Robdyx thank you very much for your nice work and support.
The problem is that the real flight number is 1572 or 5050, the letters correspond to the IATA parameter. But yes it's a problem, it's a little bit messy, we need to make it a little more user friendly.
Greetings from Spain!
Thank you! That didn't come to my mind for some reason. Maybe putting the IATA code grated out (not modificable un that field) in front of the number would make it more intuitive that only the numbers are required. Or making it character sensitive. Anyway, thank you for this great tool!
Un abrazo!

+1 for this, or maybe put the IATA code and flight number on the same row but with the flight number to the right? So it directly follows the airline letters? I guess the drop-down arrow could also be to the left then
Love the idea, wish I had it a month ago but I'm keeping it installed for the next time

Even after upgrade with OCR I can't upload any data (no element could be detected) from the ticket and no ticket could be detected from files (either pdf or picture). There is indeed a limited possibility to capture the ticket with the camera but still, no field is filled automatically. Is it just me doing something wrong or this functionality is yet to be available?
