Question WiFi and Hotspot services stopped working after the latest update on my ROG 5. - ASUS ROG Phone 5 / 5s

Wifi and hotspot services stopped working after the latest update of ASUS ROG 5. As soon as I tap on wifi to toggle it on it switches back to off. Please help. I am not in my home country to avail warranty. The Wifi MAC address is unavailable. Please refer to all the screenshots and let me know if any further details are required.

You forgot to add screenshots.
Anyways, just give it a factory wipe and see if that fixes things?

Uploaded some screenshots and a video for your reference. I have restored the factory setting, but it was not helpful.

this might be a weird solution but why not give it a try, if you are rooted. Use this app and get yourself a new mac address. The wifi fails to start due to a missing mac address.

Asus told me that I need to send the phone to the service center to change the motherboard. Many have faced this problem and get it solved by changing the motherboard from the official Asus service center. It is stock without root as it is under warranty period. I need some suggestions regarding this. First, should I try to send my phone to the home country to get it fixed or should I root it and install a custom ROM. And if I apply a custom ROM, will my problem get solved?

Seems like either your baseband dropped or your efs got lost somehow... You might want to check to see if you still have imei

If they are willing to take it in and fix it for you then go for it, its much easier if you don't know your way around android yet.
If you feel like experimenting then sure why not? Flash a custom Rom and see if that helps since you have IMEI intact but make sure to take a backup of it.

[Q] WW bootloader and ROM in US purchased TF700?

Hey experts,
I have a tf700 I purchased in US and I live in India.
I have used CleanROM Inheritance 3.4.6 US version and had no problems whatsoever. Now I want to upgrade to CROMI - X 4.6.9. However, when I installed CROMI - X 4.6.9 I couldn't get the Wifi to work. The network connects fine but I don't get internet access (and not just for the play store no internet access at all). I have tried both US and WW build versions of the ROM.
The bootloader I installed was of US version listed in the ROM's thread. I have no problems with CleanROM 3.4.6 on this same bootloader but CROMI X doesn't seem to support Wifi.
Please suggest a solution. I think I may be the last one with what people keep saying is an ancient ROM for the tab. :crying:
Can I install a WW bootloader on a tab that I purchased in the US and will it solve my problem?
What other solution is there?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I couldn't post on the ROM's thread as I need to have posted at least 10 posts before I can post on a development thread.

You can try this:
Before you try this, please backup your system in case of bootloop.
1. Go to your build.prop and find these entries: Put the Number Sign (#) in front of the Net.tcp.buffersize, please see below.
net.tcp.buffersize.default=4096,87380,256960,4096,16384,256960

#net.tcp.buffersize.gprs=4096,87380,256960,4096,16384,256960
#net.tcp.buffersize.umts=4096,87380,256960,4096,16384,256960
net.tcp.buffersize.wifi=4096,87380,256960,4096,16384,256960
2. Save and restart your device.
3. Boot into recovery and wipe both Caches.
4. Reboot and see if it works.
Please report back and Good luck.

Go to your Wifi setting and check to see if you have IP Address assigned to your tablet. If not, you can set it as a static IP to your tablet on your router instead of dynamic. If it does not work, then it is beyond my knowledge on this matter. Somebody can help you out, sorry. :crying:

"Wifi Error" I'll pay $40 for a working solution!

Hi guys, I'm wondering if anyone can help, as this issue is doing my head in!
I recently got a new Motorola Pro+ but unfortunately it doesn't connect to wifi. It attempts to connect for a few seconds and the comes up with "Error."
I've tried a lot of things to fix this like, removing the sim, removing the sd card, trying the wifi fixer app, reflashing the stock rom but nothing works.
Can anyone help me with this? I'm will to pay $40 (Paypal) to anyone who can provide a working solution.
Phone details:
Motorola Pro+ MB632 (Bought new)
System version: 55.1.1036.MB632.Retail.en.GB
Android 2.3.6
Basband version: 5.5.1Q-110_ELW-TA-36
Kernel version: [email protected] #1
Build number: 5.5.1Q-110_ELW-TA-36
Thanks,
Dan
Dial *#*#526#*#* into your phone's keypad. It will show a message "Driver Loading*Successful*. If this is the message that comes up on the screen, than wifi should work now fine.

Should have posted this in Q&A Forums.
But have you tried switching your Router to G standard and connecting?
Also try to connect your Laptop to the Internet and then tether your connection using softwares like connectifypro etc.

Its a hardware problem then, which means theres no fix other than a trade in. Do you have root? If so, usb tether it with you pc. Should be able to use it then, but you wont be able to use wifi unless its plugged into the usb

Try changing your wifi password authentication type
First keep it to open(remove the password) and see if your phone connects to the wifi
If it connects, then change the password to WEP or WPA type

Hi Have you tried Setting Static IP
To set a static IP, you have to go to Wi-Fi settings and go to menu > settings. Over there, you can specify your static IP address, default gateway, subnet mask and DNS servers, or change the encryption type.

take usb debugging on and from the computer write adb logcat > namehere.txt and upload the logcat somewhere we might be able to help you
and if its brand new and you got warranty you should really consider to go to the service center and let them repair it for free, if it worked when you got it doesn't matter unless you haven't rooted or anything or installed a new rom (which may lead to warranty loose) but if its completely stock and nothing changed you should be good to go for a repair. also if you installed any official rom make sure driver modules for your phone is there sometimes there's been a miss and someone might not added it.

Thanks for that, because the phone is pretty rare in the UK I ordered mine from a Korean seller on eBay. It took like 2 weeks to arrive including $40 delivery. Now to return it will not only cost about $40 again to send back but it will be a hassle, take ages for replacement or refund so I thought I'd rather pay someone here to help me fix it than send it back.
I'm not too good at technical stuff so can you please tell me how to do the logcat thing?
Thanks,
Dan

Well, Putting myself in your place, the first thing I would try is boot into recovery and wipedata/ factory reset wipe cache.
restart and check again.
if even after that It doesn't work
flash firmware through odin.
although I would not be dealing with this problem directly cause I don't know what exactly is causing this. So the easiest part, flash.

Even after completely flashing to default through odin, I would say don't flash anything more. its not the software's fault
There are 2 things now
Your router settings. for this there are many things that could make problems
1. First Check wifi password and be 200 percent sure that you're entering the right password.
2. Check at another place, another wifi. I also had trouble connecting at my friends wifi, it would keep returning with authentication error, but the same device connected to mine router without any error. (I still couldn't confirm why it happened there, I suspect my friend had blocked my device in router settings or gave me the wrong password)
3. Forget network, turn off your device, turn off your router, then turn on your device and your router , open wifi in device enter password again and connect.
4. Make sure bluetooth is off and only wifi is on.
5. Check if your Mac ID is not being blocked by the router (find MAC address in your device settings-wifi-advanced) enter your Router settings >>wifi>>MAC Filter disable the Mac filter.
6. Go into your router and go to advance and under wireless go to wireless card list and click set up access list ...add your device with the mac address.
7. Reset the router.
8. Change the security settings on the router, from WEP to WPA2/WPA or vise versa, change SSID name as well.
can connect through WPA push button?
9. Try changing wifi channel to 5, 6,7,8.
10. there are few app in play store that say they can fix the wifi issues one such app is wifix, try them too.
Even after going through all this it doesn't work, then I feel there is a chance that wifi module is at fault and the part would need to be replaced.
there are whole lot of people on the internet that have faced issues and are facing issues with the wifi be it any device,(same goes for the wife ) Guess it has a mind of it's own too.
Well best of luck.
Ok Thank you very much for your help....
I already went through what u suggest before to post my 1st msg...with no luck.
What i find strange is that i'm not even able to connect to an open network..and
still i believe that it has nothing to do with the hardware....
Auth error on an open network is weird....anyway...
THX
David
I'm facing the same problem ... authentication problem occurred... even on open networks.
flashed stock rom
still problem exists

No network at all? (Please help!)

So I switched over from 4.4.4 to MIUI 8 Global (6.0.1) almost a week ago and I have had no data since then, but I could make calls and receive texts. Yesterday morning to find that I had no service of any kind on my device... Any ideas? I tried flashing different radios and I am shown that I have signal for a split second before it goes back to no bars, attempted to set the carrier manually too but nothing seems to stick.
I am on the Ting network in the western half of the US if that helps any.
Thanks guys, my N5 and I greatly appreciate it!
Does the phone work properly on a stock ROM? APN settings are correct for data purposes ? Was the phone bumped or dropped?
On my moms nexus 5 the wifi wasn't working anymore so i reflashed the stock rom and it started working again. If you don't want to have to resort to losing data you can try checking if the antennas if they are disconnected on the back of the phone. Just take off the back covers and plug the antennas back in and that might help

Sounds like the custom ROM doesn't work well with your phone. Any other users of the same rom experience the same issue?

I saw a few things said about it in the ROM's thread but no answers. I asked in there as well but nobody replied.
I can sometimes make calls/text, but for the most part is just stays disconnected.

I saw a few things said about it in the ROM's thread but no answers. I asked in there as well but nobody replied.

Yeah everything was there, it just said I had no network. Anytime I try to connect it flashes sprint for JUUUUUST a second before kicking me off lol. I'm using my stock 4.4.4 for now so I at least have a working phone, but I really would like to use the MIUI 8 if possible.
Sorry for the slow reply, I've been busy.

Then it's obvious that the MIUI rom is causing the problem. You should move to something else.

You can not turn on wifi

You can not turn on wifi, a button from wifi as if it was blocked. I have uploaded the system through Odin several times and it did not help

Your wifi wire might be damaged or maybe a broken mac address. Try letting your phone diagnosed by an specialist. If you can repair on your own cable costs arround 5-10$

Is there a mac address listed in settings?
Does the WiFi switch on then straight back off again?

The MAC address is visible, wifi does not want to turn on at all.

Download and flash the same firmware again or use Smartswitch emergency recovery. Don't use the firmware you already have, it may be corrupt.
It's unlikely to be a hardware problem if you haven't dropped the phone or got it wet.
Sometimes the firmware will flash OK but some system files are corrupt so WiFi cannot initiate.

Did you get the firmware from the same place as last time?
I would suggest you install United Kingdom BTU which is unbranded fully Europe compatible and see if that helps. Use Samfirm tool and after flash change language to Polski.
Also, did the WiFi just stop working or was it after a firmware flash?
I downloaded the firmware from Samfirm. Wifi was already turned off automatically but it was always possible to turn it on again. Until now. I think, however, that it will be a technical problem.
