Android version downgrade - General Questions and Answers

Hi, the current rom version of my Samsung S8+ is Android 9.0 G935FXXUCDUD1 to previous version
( And. 7 or 8) how can I return.

I would leave on 9 as it isn't vulnerable to some the nasty rootkits that can prey on earlier versions.

If you're really considering a downgrade, then it might be worth trying a full factory reset first (after backing up your data), since any downgrade will result in a data wipe anyway.

is your phone unlock? if no. u never do it

Thanks for the replies. The device is OEM unlocked, but according to my research, reverting to old versions is blocked by the manufacturer. But I'm wondering if there is a stock rom of previous versions for repair.

What is the process for Android Updates?

Hey guys. I was wondering, what is the process for android firmware updates? By this I mean, when I owned an iPhone (any model) after I updated the firmware there seemed to be remnants of the old firmware version and it would cause issues through the phone, at which point I would have to go on my computer, restore to the newest firmware essentially formatting the phone and re-uploading the new firmware on the phone. After that all was fine. Is this necessary on android in order to get a new, clean version of the firmware on the phone or does the update process do this throughout the installation? I haven't had any issues yet with the newest AT&T Nougat update, but I was just thinking about this and figured I'd ask before anything did happen, if it's like my old iPhones...
BTW, I'm on AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 with Nougat 7.0

Downgrade Android 9 to 8.1

Hello everyone,
It is possible to downgrade to Android 8.1 from Android 9 on Samsung A9 ?
I updated it to version 9 and it is very confusing to use as design changes are looking really bad.
If i restore original samsung 8.1 version what program do you recommend for full data backup so i don't loose any data/applications/pictures on my phone ?
Thanks.
Apps are linked to google account, they can be re-downloaded. As for data from the applications you'd afaik need elevated permissions to access that data or a custom recovery. Pictures you should be able to easily back them up to your PC. Generally you can always downgrade but you may be nagged about updating. Also if you had a custom recovery and restored data to an older version, it may or may not cause issues.
I can't give you full insight because the last device I've used relating to samsung was their note/note pro, and the s6. I just thought I'd toss what I do know here.

Question SM-G996U1 on latest update. Wanting to roll back to unlockbootloader and root is it possbile?

So, Im not to Familiar with galaxy phones since my last one when the first galaxy came out. After reading threads I saw that its possbile to get the paid service to unlock it but the bootloader needs to be on V1 and the samsung update cannot be on 3.1.
Is it possbile to flash stock on odin and have the bootloader go back to V1 and then pay for the service?

Sadly, no. It's not possible to rollback the bootloader version. Although you can rollback to previous releases within the same bootloader version as long as you still have your Attestation keys, which are wiped if you improperly attest your device; causing the implementation of `Rollback Protection`.

Xperifirm Question

Hey all!
I have an Xperia 5 II that I bought used and didn't know the previous owner changed the Firmware on me (Taiwan -> US). I haven't updated ever since! So I decided t do my research and am going to attempt to update the firmware with Xperifirm. My question is, do I have to keep erasing my data everytime I update the firmware? or can I just update it? I am planning to keep the US firmware and just update it.
When you say update it, do you mean Android 10 to 11? If you are changing the version of OS then I would say it’s important to wipe the phone and do a factory reset. The apps that were installed when it was Android 10 don't work too well under Android 11. Usually people get all huffy about having to wipe thier phone when they upgrade, but I see you have embraced it already.
If you’re not changing versions, just simple update, then you shouldn’t need to wipe, everything should work fine, keeping your data.
If possible choose an unbranded veriosn of firmware to flash, as it generally contains less bloatware.

Question [TB-J606L] Downgrade from Android 11

Hello. Yesterday i installed latest OTA Android version (TB-J606L_S320030_210923_ROW) and noticed that it is really slow and it has even more bloatware that i don't want. I don't need to root it (because of bloatware removal) as i also need to revert it to default state as it was before update.
1. It is possible to find which version i had before this upgrade?
2. How could i downgrade system to previous version (i think it was Android 10 but i'm not sure)
PS: I successfully downgraded/rooted some devices but as every brand has it's specific way to perform downgrade, i'm asking here. Any advice would help and i'm aware of dangers of downgrading/rooting devices (bricking). In any case, it would be awesome to also link unbricking guide for TB-J606L, just in case It's always better to have plan B.
Update: I found source of roms for my device but i can't recognize which versions are old Android 10 and which are the new Android 11.
