Hello everyone! I had a quick question regarding the availability of the custom Home Depot firmware on these Motorola/Symbol phones. I've done what I believe to be a thorough search of the forums and have found numerous places where people are trying to remove this locked firmware, but few that describe how to obtain a copy of it.
I'm not actually looking to load it onto another device, but rather, I'm looking to explore the files of the firmware.
I have several TC70s with the USB cables, but none of them have the Home Depot software and I was wondering if there is a location or repository where the HD software is uploaded so that it can be downloaded? Or perhaps if someone here has a copy of it? Or if it's even possible to make a copy of it.
tl;dr: I'm looking for a copy of the custom Home Depot TC70 firmware so that I can explore some of the files within it.
Thanks again for reading! Happy belated new year everyone!

I want to download the firmware from the Zebra website, but the website requires registration, and there are firmware packages available on the official website

Hello!
I am posting here, because I am new on forum, and I can not post on developers Microsoft Surface forum.
Here is the thing I want to do. I am user of Microsoft Surface and I want to change the boot (splash) screen (where it writes "Surface" and where the loading circle is) of my tablet to a custom image. So far I haven't found anything useful that would lead me to the my goal.
I know that this setting have to me changed in firmware (BIOS/UEFI). But is there any way to access to them? Maybe the right .ROM file, opened with MMtool would work?
That you very much for any information.
Regrads, Jerry
I've previously modified many BIOS/UEFI Firmwares, but as always, this requires research and reverse engineering. A good starting point would be either dumping the BIOS or use the UEFI.cap files which are packaged firmware (updates). I will try to do this, but there is a risk of bricking the board and unlike desktop boards I don't see a way to recover from a bad flash on the Surface. (UART might work, but you´d have to disassemble the device first, which isn't easy.)
Hello XDA,
I have some questions about the sidekick Development Keys. I actually used to have one of my own in 2008. Here is what I am looking for.
An actual copy of a dev-key file.
The HTCONSOLE command for uploading a dev-key file to the phone.
I am looking for these things because I am interested in reversing the Dev-Key algorithm. I am planning on using JTAG to dump the firmware and do an investigation. These things all lead up to restoring internet capabilities to the phone. As we know, the phone is a bit crippled because of hard-coded operations to use Danger's servers for networking. But, there is internet access, just need to find a way to circumvent Danger's servers. I thought that getting a dev-key so that I could upload my own programs would be a good first step. However, since I cannot get another from Danger, I figured reversing would be the next best step. However, without the dev-key file format and HTCONSOLE command syntax for uploading the key. I am in the dark.
Thanks in advance

Hi!
I had the same problem, is at least 3 years that I try to bring back into operation a old Sidekick2 found in the trash.
I was able to operator-unlock it with a key combination (here in Italy sidekick mobile phones have never been marketed and therefore are virtually unknown!).
Then I search SDK everywhere, for years, all in vain (all danger's site are dead, and archive.org is unuseful)
BUT Today (literally) I found this site: The Holy Grail (w w w .cs.umb.edu / ~bazz / learn /sidekick2/ )! I'm very excited! :victory:
Now I need my devkey but is obvious impossible to obtain it, so I was thinking to automate a brute force process (autoit? a small c++ program? who know..) to get it, but if you can obtain an algoritm via reverse engineering is better.
Another alternative would be try to contact former employees of Danger Inc, but I would not know how to do because english isn't my native language.
so please KEPP US UPDATED! :fingers-crossed:
*Edit: I just realized after posting that two 0's slipped into the end of my title. They are typos, it is supposed to end at the )*
Here's a page with the phone's specs if interested: http://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/8f2b309b
I just moved back to the US after living in Japan for 2 years. I bought this phone back in 2013, so I was wondering if I could root it and uninstall all the Japanese pre-installed apps that I won't need anymore and use it here (I already looked into unlocking it, and should have that half under control). If not, I can just save up and buy a new phone, but I like this one and would like to keep it if I can root it.
I searched Google and found this page: http://androidrooting.wiki.fc2.com/wiki/SoftBank FMC ARROWS A202F root化 wiki
It seems to say that there is a root out, but all the forums are in Japanese (which I don't read) and google translate wasn't very useful for me.
I also searched this site and I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2333055 but it's for a different version, and I'm not sure if it would work?
Also... I've only rooted one time (a Droid) and that was years ago with a program, so I may need a refresher on the process.
Hi. I've been thinking that people who wants to buy a new phone should now first if there are free drivers, open recovery, etc.
Obviously, this info can be found in each smartphone forum, but maybe there should be a place where all this info collide.
I mean, a document (maybe in google docs) with:
Name of the phone --------------------- bootloader----------------Root---------------------Recovery--------------drivers (camera, processor).
This is a question that is constantly evolving and is dificult to be up to date.
For example, for the LG G3 D855, the bootloader is not open (but it is bumped, so we can achieve root, and use an open recover). However, AOSP roms aren't completely functional, because drivers for the camera aren't open.
Maybe this document is improvable, but my knowings aren't so vast. Let me know.
I think it could be useful to be following this document up.
Hello.
This is my first post, and might be my only one as well. Since I am
not allowed to post into developers' forums, I post this here. I'm
sorry for any inconvenience caused, if any.
After setting things up (download and install Mono, download and
uncompress XperiFirm then reboot) to use XperiFirm on my Mac, I wanted
to check if I could download Xperia firmwares directly from Sony's
servers.
Assuming XperiFirm downloads files directly from Sony, I asked a
friend a command that could give me what I'd need. He gave me two, one
of which (
Code:
$ lsof -i
) returned some interesting results.
At the
Code:
mono-sgen
command line, the connection is
established with an IP address that Whois says belonging to a single
person located in Santa Monica, California. I tried that while
downloading Xperia Z3+'s Android 5.0.2*, 32.2.A.0.224 / R3C and Xperia
Z3's 23.5.A.0.575 / R9D. I won't give more info on what I found, if
you want to know more you'll have to check this out by yourself.
I don't understand. I am still far from being a network computing and
IT security professional, but I'm not sure Sony would register as one
single person. I don't imply that something stinks, I only say I find
this rather strange.**
If the files were retrieved directly from Sony by someone and stored
on their server to be downloaded, why not keep the files even when
Sony deletes them? Is XperiFirm using some sort of intermediate
service hosted by someone?
Could someone explain me this? I found the official thread to be
elusive about how XperiFirm works.
Thank you. Have a nice day.
* I can't recall this Android version's associated Sony Xperia Z3+
firmware's name since it since disappeared, but I first noticed this
at the time it was still available — some months ago.
