Anybody have any luck with getting Google phone and contacts onto GW4 in place of Samsung?
Have you tried to sideload google dialer to your watch? Not sure if it has support for a companion app for the watch though, just a suggestion....
Not exactly sure what you mean. I don't use Samsung "contacts" on my phone, but when I go into contacts on the GW4, I see all my contacts from my Google account...
Also, see all my Google contacts on my GW 4 with my OnePlus 9 Pro.
Have not tried. Wondering if it's worth it and if the phone app can be replaced by it..
Update: Dialer cannot be Sideloaded.

I was wondering what this phone came installed with. I haven't bought one yet, but I'm really considering it.
Does this device come installed with Google Play or Google Play Services? Would I be able to install it if I tried (because I'm not against that)? Or can I just install a ROM and get all that with it?
Thanks.
It depends actually on the region the phone was made for. If you buy a Chinese version of the phone, you wont have Google apps installed and you would be able to manually install them ( google contacts sync and play store are the most important ones). Yet, if you bought an international version of the phone, then Google apps will be pre installed by default

I've bought an L02 version of ebay, installed playstore manually, but I can't sync my contacts. Everything else it's no problem, but not the contacts! I've done a bunch of searching with no conclusion. Any ideas?
Your problem is that you are missing the Google contacts sync app. Find it in a google apps package or download it from Huawei app center

I've downloaded the contacts app from here:
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...ontacts-1-1-android-5-1-android-apk-download/
And still, I can't add my google contacts. Everytime I try to add an account, the google accounts is not an option, only Cloud, Weibo and facebook show up.
Hi there, I used to own the mediapad x1 and had to send it back. This was the best phone I had ever owned but it didnt work on the tmobile network in the part of Southern Texas USA, im in. It FLEW via WIFI but it didnt get a signal until I used a friends AT&T sms card and it worked fine on their network. I also had to do a lot of tweaking to it to get google play, google sync, google calendar and contacts to work but when it did I had no problems. Also no google play. The only thing that disappointed me was that I couldnt use my google voice app on it.
What im wanting to know before I purchase the X2 and switch to AT&T, does the X2 come already with google play store, sync, calendar and contacts and can I download the google voice app to it and it will work?

Most places you buy from will preinstall the Play Store. If you want Google Contacts Sync and Calendar Sync you have to install those two seperate APK's seperately. The easiest way to get the Google Apps installed is by using the Huawei App Store, go into it and search for Google and most of the Google Apps will come up and you can install them directly from there. If you Unlock your bootloader, install TWRP and root you can then flash stock rooted B106 which I modded to include the Play Store and Contacts Sync and fixed a few other minor annoyances.

The X2 702L comes with Playstore, calendar sync, etc. stock installed. It works great on ATT for me, except texting still a hassle. The downside of the 702L is that the it's stuck at Android 5.0 (except using some explicit instructions to convert to a 703L effectively). So the trade-off is out of the box 702 or steps to root and flash a good image with the Play apps pre-installed and bloatware sunk.
Hi ,
Just received my mate 9 from China with GMS Core and Play installed but can't get my google contacts to sync??
Can anyone help asap???
Many thanks!?!

You must download the APK from online sources like this one above and after that, you should have no problem reaching out to your contacts.
Same for the Calendar sync APK file. That should be all that you need.
Have Fun!
Thanks mate! Worked like a charm...
You can also get the Google contacts app there and use it rather than Huawei's contact app.

Thanks.
Just wish there was a decent dual sim dialler as I like to assign sims to contacts as I use my phone for work too.
I saw something on Play store like that, cannot recall app name but it let choose SIM to call from after you click a contact number.

But this is how it works right now.... You press a contact and open o new window asking you which sim to make the call sim 1 or sim 2...
I think that he wants sim association contacts... The only device that work with it is LG G4, LG V10,LG V20 all dual sim...LG is the only device that you can assign contacts to a sim without have to choose every time which sim... But it doesn't has the "Always ask" option...
You can install and try from playstore "true phone diler & contact" that manage both options but some times is getting mess up with stock diler... It will be great if you could freeze or disable stock diler....
When you select a contact in the dialer, it shows the two sims and it tells you also which sim was used last time for this contact. It is not a fixed connection between contact and sim, but for me it is a good approach. I'm not willing to go through all my contacts to connect them to a sim. And probably redo this when moving to another phone.
Thanks Guys. Currently using True Caller. Moto do a great implementation of this...
Try drupe dialer from playstore

Just like to say thanks. Bought the Mate 9 from China Aliexpress with AL00 china model. Having problem syncing all my contacts via the google account. Finally fix the issue with this thread. Thanks again.
I just notice my google contacts are not being synchronized despite having the latest apk installed. I have reinstalled the app giving it full permission and still not able to synch my contacts last synch is dated Feb 11
last update: deleting and re-adding the gmail account fixed the problem
Thanks, I just had same problem with my Mate9 from China; moreover GMS core were not installed and so no Gmail, no Playstore etc. I had to install gms core from Hiapp(in the phone), and after that install all the google apps one by one from the store. Now all run fine! Thanks again
Hi!
I tried this but it keep saying that the App can't open =/
It redirects me to the HiApp version, which is in Google Contacts but with a Chinese Title.
Any ideas anyone?
I was having problems with the stock calendar app not picking up my reminders from my Google Calendar. Instead, I just installed the regular Google Calendar app however for some reason I am not getting any notifications for reminders. The reminders are definitely in the calendar, and I am notified on my other devices, however it does not seem to work on my Honor 8. Is there a setting I need to tweak to allow this?
Thanks.
Hi,
Do you have any issues with any other apps not showing notifications?
Cheers

Everyting else seems to work fine.
Is there any solution? I have exactly the same problem.
Make sure you allow calendar app full access in settings. I don't use a Google calendar app on this device. But reminders in my Google account and pushed through as well as my regular Calendar app.
This was on Android 6 and now Android 7..
Side note I also have Google Calendar sync up in Google account settings.. Check your setting to see if there similar to my ones..
Hi All,
Just migrated from iPhone to OnePlus 7 Pro, and am enjoying my return to Android very much.
However, I'm really puzzled by how the inbuilt contacts app is working.
I've always kept my contacts synced with my Google account, so when I moved across I simply added my Google account and there were all my contacts.
So far, so simple. My expectation was that the Contacts app on the phone would simply display my Google contacts and that any edits would be reflected in the Google account.
I've recently tried to edit a contact, and I find that it's not so simple. For the particular contact, I appear to have 3 linked contacts. One from Google, one from WhatsApp and one from the phone itself.
To make matters worse, there appear to be more phone contacts than there are contacts in the Google account. How the hell did that happen? I've not added any new contacts, or told the phone to maintain any contacts locally.
I've now told the Contacts app to only show contacts that are in the Google account, and to use the Google account as the default for new contacts.
My questions are this:
1) Why does the phone appear to be maintaining a separate sets of contacts?
2) How do I know which field to edit in a contact. Attached screenshot shows show there are three identical sets of phone numbers. Which one is for the Google account?
3) Can I stop the phone from maintaining it's own local contacts database?
4) Can I make the phone only show the Google contacts when editing?
5) Can I get a view that shows which contacts are on the phone, but not in Google? I want to work out where the extra ones have come from.
Perhaps, I'm missing the point of how Android does this. If anyone could explain, that would be great.
Thanks,
Andy.
