Moto E20/E30/E40 Cyprus64 - General Questions and Answers

Hi there, looks like no one as posted about the Cyprus64 series from Motorola yet.
Although the lastest (E40 came out in october). I'm actualy surprised about that, it looks like no one owns one.
Yet I bought the E40. I can definitely understand why no one has ever been interested in this phone as the Geekbench benchmark suggests; it is average at everything except for the 90hz screen that comes with it.
The why im posting this, is to ask if someone planned to port any custom recovery to it and/or started custom rom ports and/or creations. I'm also getting ''unknown cmd'' issues in fastboot mode with commands such as fastboot oem get_unlock_data etc...
Anyway , thank you for reading me i hope this will start a conversation about these new devices.
Bye y'all.

I'm having the same problem, not to mention it was a lot of work to find the drivers

Roms are definitely needed for Cyprus64 series (Moto E40) since it has already been discarded by motorola within 4 months and its OS is freaking buggy

Is there a way to go to recovery mode in Motorola moto e40? I have tried pressing power+volume down+assist button or power+volume button, but nothing works.

Guys i think i found a way to unlock the bootloader.......after entering fastboot (holding volume down+google assistant+power key when the phone is turned off then as soon as the screen lights up release the power key after that enter fastboot mode then select reboot to bootloader)
open adb command prompt and type fastboot flashing unlock.....thats it.
Now i need to figure out how to get root access, if anyone knows please tell me.

Even tried rooting it but it would give write .img failed and if I tried flashing the boot.img on a and b partitions separately it would go into bootloop altho it can be easily recovered using research tool and flashing the rom

Hey we have a moto e40 group on telegram. Although there are no custom roms available for e40,however you can flash gsis in this device. All the steps for flashing gsis and unlocking bootloader are given there. If anyone interested can join this channel and feel free to ask any questions there. Here is the link: https://t.me/MotoE40Global . Note: Most of the gsis have bugs but some gsis are absolutely bugless.

Hey guys there's a small group of e40 on telegram. You can join there if you're interested in unlocking your bootloader. Try using GSI Roms they will work but bootloader needs unlocking which isn't actually that hard but a Linux pc is needed if you don't have one but a windows then find a usb and flash a live boot

Yeah can anyone here be able to comply a twrp for the phones I can help abit with the Moto e30 but not alot since I don't have my computer at the moment also I'm too great at coding as I'm a year 10 (UK) student but I have some experience with ADB since I unlocked my old phones bootloader

this is what I get in the fastboot command line
when typing 'fastboot flashing unlock' and all other variations
FAILED (remote: 'Not implemet.')
fastboot: error: Command failed

M2 with Fastboot BL

Hey guys,
i just started with falshing and those things. So i'm not so familiar with building and unlocking.
I bought a M2 with QUWERTY. I had and still has bootloop problems according to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457373
While analysing my bootproblem, i just realized, that i have a Fastboot Bootloader installed on this phone, what seems a little special.
Next step may be, to use the fastboot get this phone work, step after, use fastboot for improve this forum . But as i said, i'm new in this deep hardware near software-things, so need all your help for that .
greetz
how strange this in your bootloader, is similar as in the Atrix? So you installed it? I would like to know more about this topic
Looks like you have a dev phone. There are a couple of forum users with dev phones
Does rsdlite recognize it? I think you should try to have a look in Motorola Defy Android Development: there is a thread named ''experimental: trying to unlock the bootloader " (look at pages 60-75) .
I think someone wrote about some particular roms to be flashed in case of unlocked phones....
Does anyone know a way to extract this bootloader??
If so, I believe that lowering the fastboot and giving the command would be possible to unlock the MS2
Fastboot => http://www.mediafire.com/?2zdhukq3ha1qlrd
1) "fastboot oem unlock" to see the Station ID
2) "fastboot oem unlock ID" to unlock the bootloader
Hi everyone,
I'm following a thread about bootloader unlocking on the Defy section and scholbert suggested to make this little experiment:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1 of=/sdcard/mmcblk1.raw bs=512 count=2048
then zip the raw file and upload it to the thread so that he can compare different dumps of that particular section of the rom, to discover a pattern which might lead to further understanding of how the lock works.

Hey there,
well I just started to read the experimental thread of the defy section.
Problem may of course be, that my phone here is in bootloop and at the moment I'm back at my old Nokia 6230i
If new Information comes arround I will report it here.

Did you tried simply wipe via moto recovery?
Or flash different sbf.
Have you tried the "fastboot oem unlock" command?
First things first:
at any RSD lite Version my phone is recognized as: "NS Flash OMAP 3630"
I saw, that the behavior of the phone while flashing is different in how i access the bootloader.
I can go into BL through:
A) "X"+"arrow up"
or also
B) "vol+" + "vol-"
while using A) I got a normal bootloader modus.
while using B) I got fastboot modus bootloader.
may someone test this with his phone and post it here?
another special thing: I can only access recovery while pluging the phone into a wallloader and pressing x, with or without the battery.
without the loader pluged in, recovery is not coming.
While access with fastboot and using it:
Code:
C:\where\my\sdk\is> fastboot devices
################ fastboot
-> the # means each a hex sign.
Code:
C:\where\my\sdk\is> fastboot oem unlock
...
FAILED <remote failure>
finished total time: 0.03s
next point while flashing my phone with a SBF_Flash under linux, there was an error with a SBF File, which doesn't throw errors under Windows and RSD.
About the defy forum: still reading, cause i don't want to brick the phone more than it already is, while haven't read all the knowledge.

Well, I have bootloader 70.12. To get into BL I have 2 options:
1) arrow up
2) Camera + Volume down
Both ways leads to standard BL. Fastboot devices doesn't list my phone, just as before. I never tried to update my BL but I don't think it will do any difference.
I've tried it with bootloader 70.13.
Only option A works to get into Bootloader mode (not Fastboot).
Next "funny" fact.
While Flashing SBF with "normal" bootlaoder modus, everythings works with RSD lite.
While Flashing SBF with "fastboot" bootloader modus, I get an error after creating image files:
"Failed flashing process. Failed flashing process. Phone [0000]: Error getting subscriber unit information. Device API Error: 0xE0000042 Command: RQHW (0x0805041); phone connected"
Then is Result:"FAIL" and the phone stays in bootloader modus (fastboot).
May be I have wrong RSD lite calibration. Will investigate this, how it behaves in linux.
Ok, so googling "unsigned motorola milestone 2 SBF" turned up this as the first
Perhaps if that link is dead you could ask endless7 if he would be so kind as to re-upload it, or perhaps it is available elsewhere.
I say this because I remember reading somewhere that once it's unlocked you can only use unsigned SBF's.. pretty sure it was the bootloader unlock progress thread in the defy forums.. but I'm sure it's been said in our forums too
Just wrote a pm to Endless7. If thats true, it could help me get this device work (even in chinese) and than i can take a look forward, while using adb for example.
Hopefully!
Does anyone else know fo any other unsigned sbf's kickin around the web possibly better than a chinese one?

Dan,
I'm not sure, but I don't think he is limited to flashing only unsigned stuff. The difference from developer phone to production phone, besides fastboot, is that the first one doesn't check signatures during boot chain. Theoretically speaking he is able to flash and boot any Milestone2 ROM he likes. I also suspect that he is able to downgrade from gingerbread to froyo, unlike us. There should be something else preventing him to boot the phone. That's just my opinion and it maybe wrong
Hey guys,
well enough is enough, bought today a second phone for the time the m2 is still dead.
I'm about to finish the defy thread today. Already learned a lot.
Well it is correct that i can flash signed SBFs. While booting into "normal" BL Mode.
But i can also boot into Fastboot and the RSD Lite Name starting with NS seems to show me something special.
So i risk something today and flash a froyo: It worked but still bootloops. The flash was successful and the M Logo turned gray.
At GB it is Red at my M2.
But now it would be great for an unsigned SBF, some more Ideas how to get it boot, or how to manipulate it over fastboot to get it work. Cause without get it into Android we can't go on analyse the bootloader.
PLZ help me. Will also ask a guy from the defy thread, who seems to know a lot about the milestone 1 and bootloaders/OMAP cpus. May he has a great idea what he wrote there was very clever and full of knowledge.

[Q] Installing ROMS with locked bootloader.

I have a sony Xperia S and i have rooted the phone. I've been trying to install some custom roms but i am unable to put the phone into fastboot because i haven't unlocked the bootloader. I'm assuming people have installed roms without the flashboot otherwise there isn't much point to rooting the phone without unlocking the bootloader.
I had a search around and found nothing. Any thoughts on installing roms with a locked bootloader?

Actually, a lot of people around here should be able to help because a lot of them had a droid x, which had a locked bootloader. Of course, that device had a boot strap to over come the lock bootloader. Since you're rooted, have you installed a custom recovery yet? If you get the recovery on it, you may be able to flash a ROM of there is one available for you device...

There is a problem with custom recovery and the xperia s, it doesn't support my phone apparently. My only other option is fastboot but i'm having serious driver issues with windows 8. I've followed a guide but it won't let me post this link up here yet.
my phone connects into fastboot for about 5 seconds and it just reboots. Apparently it's a common problem but i've tried everything and nothing is working haha! That guide was the closest i've got, i got the drivers to install and now my phone is coming up as "Andriod Bootloader interface"
I suppose that's some progress.
Have you had any experience with this issue?

The fast boot issue on win8, yes. I don't even see toolkits working entirely like they should because of that fastboot issue. Fortunately, i have a Mac, so just use that for fastbooting usually (or minimal adb use). You could just obtain the adb, fastboot, etc. files from galaxynexusroot.com (or other places) and work around that fastboot problem with the command prompt, but the fact that you're recovery isn't supported is a problem. If there isn't a custom recovery for your device model, i don't see how you're going to be able to flash a rom. If you google "xperia s recovery" there are articles that go into detail about it (DooMRecovery looks like one that might work), but i have limited experience with that particular device. Wish i could be of more help. Maybe someone more familiar with your model will chime in...

Purchased a Shield K1 Tablet: Should I Root?

Purchased a Shield K1 Tablet
Which will arrive this week, and there are things I would like to know about it, i.e notably on whether or not I should unlock and root it, despite the potential risk of doing so.
What I plan on using this for is primarily emulation (Snes through PSP and maybe Dolphin, no idea how well that works yet) That being said, are there things I should do to it?
Do as in, things I can root or flash to give myself the best possible experience, to get the most out of this? I've seen a lot of custom ROMs, Cyanogenmod (which I have on my
Nexus 7 2012, along with a dual boot OS). I have been thinking about having the stock Android 5.1.1, alongside Android 4.1.2 for the sake of Wii remote support since Google
foolishly broke that part of Bluetooth (and the part that never will be fixed again). The problem is, I don't know how hard or cumbersome it would be to do such a thing
without bricking the Shield tablet and ending up with a pricey paperweight. What tutorials, guides, etc should I look into before I consider such an undertaking? I want
to be sure I pick the right files and OS image(s) to install so I can do this right, if that makes sense.
I just bought it too and was coming from a Nexus 7 2012.
Rooted with the latest CM 12.1 nightly, no issues so far.
Wifi is slowish/buggy and the touchscreen has some issues, but afaik these issues are there on stock, too.
Just get the latest CM12.1 from their site, flash it with TWRP. I had issues with open gapps and ended up using CM's gapps.

Fair enough, and I know that no device is perfect, everything has their own set of issues, so I don't think I'll regret getting a Shield Tablet, that much I know. I was going to get a Samsung Tab E 9.6, but the specs just didn't figure, esp. for someone who wants more power, you know? What about the Android OS ROM you install it with? Should I go with Android 5.1.1 or dual boot it with 4.1.2 instead so I can have Wii remote support? Thanks.
I don't know, that's your choice. I don't have that requirement, so I went with CM12 (5.1.1), single OS

Fair enough, I'll keep looking around the forums to gauge what I need to do. I can't help but feel a bit nervous on rooting and voiding the warranty on a device I just spend 200 bucks on, maybe that's just me though

Nvidia has stated that it will still honor the warranty despite it being unlocked or rooted in most cases. I'm just gonna guess that unless you accidentally wipe your bootloader, or use an overclocked kernel that fries it you should be good. What they said is if YOU fubar it that voids the warranty, but if it's anything normally covered by warranty your good.
That said, I rooted, unlocked, and installed an oc kernel as well as recovery within an hour of receiving mine and it runs beautifully. Better than pure stock actually.

Okay, I wasn't 100% sure, only device ever rooted and unlocked was a Nexus 7 2012, never had a problem with it once I got it up and running. I don't feel comfortable with OC at all, as the power is
definitely more than enough for my needs, if that makes any sense. That being said, I don't know what kernel I need since this is my second time ever doing something like this, a little green in the gills so to speak (sad, I know). Anyways, would you guys advise to having dual boot install on this, or just a better 5.1.1 Android ROM than the stock version? I feel a bit overwhelmed at it all, and I don't know what tutorial I should truly follow, that's why I feel overwhelmed, you know?
Reasons for the tablet:
1 - The specs are insanely powerful for emulator apps, my Nexus 7 struggles with even 2D PSP games and some PSX games, lots of stuttering in the audio department, so my primary use is gaming
2 - Multimedia, movies, YT, music and so on
So really, I don't need anything fancy OS wise, just enough to help get the most out of it without having to overclock the hardware. What order would I need to do everything in? Are there good step by step guides for people like me?

INSTALL DRIVER
-enable Developer Options
-enable Debugging Bridge
-do a 'adb devices' and check the dialog on your mobile and allow it 'every time'
-shutdown
-hold Volume down and Powerbutton at same time
if the bootloader showed up
-do a 'fastboot devices' if it shows your device online then
-do 'fastboot oem unlock'
after that you have flash your recovery
go to the directory where the file is and
-do 'fastboot flash recovery your_file_here'
after that you can reboot to bootloader and go to recovery
copy the SuperSu.zip which you downloaded at chainfires site or on xda and push it to your internal memory (/sdcard)
and flash it over recovery.
reboot enjoy!

So I just follow the guide on the thread, or do I follow the guide you just posted?. The reason I ask is because in the thread's guide, past the parts where it said to install the ADB driver and then the USB drivers for the device, I'm not sure what "debugging bridge" is, unless you meant enable USB debugging, IDK.
- Enable USB developer mode
- Enable USB debugging
- Copy the recovery image and supersu.zip to where the ADB install folder is
- Open the program to open a CMD window to the install location
- Type "adb reboot bootloader"
- Etc
I mean, because the two guides are confusing me more, the forum guide, the thread, how it's worded...now I don't know. Sorry. Is that thread and your guide the same thing, all leading to ultimate unlock and root the device using ADB and the recovery image? And is it not feasible to install Android 4.1.2 as a dual boot OS image so I can test out the Wii Classic Controller since Google broke that part of the Bluetooth code in 4.2+?
there is another tutorial from SuperPichu I think. this is the best for my understanding but I didn 't find it , up in hurry(?)

Okay, that thread says flashed to OTA 2.0 already, not entirely sure what that means, to be honest, or of the bootloader is locked on it, haven't gotten it yet. I take it I follow the first thread you posted, then

And I go into recovery mode by holding vol. down and power, right? And in that mode I flash the SuperSu.zip correct? And I did get the recovery.img from nVidia's source, which I assume is the one I use in Command. Okay. Rebooting I assume is well, heh, also by holding down power. I also noticed both of those threads have the OS name Lollipop in the thread title.

Yes, it is bad that we do not have a dedicated section for Vibe X3 yet.
I think we should be able to use Moto X Pure ROMs on this phone easily but most probably the finger print sensors won't work and there might be issues with camera since they are using different sensors.
If you already have the phone, can you try any of the ROMs from the Moto X Pure ROMs. Please make sure you take a nandroid backup of your phone first before you do so.
I tried asking in Moto X forums, but they don't seem to be interested in this.

There is already a thread in XDA trying to root Vibe X3,check this out.
Take a look at this video to enter recovery mode and then you can try flashing Moto X Pure TWRP recovery. Make sure to take a backup of your phone first because anything may go wrong in the middle.

Np Welcome to XDA, press the thanks button at the bottom right corner if you want to thank someone :good:
Anyways, try Autoroot and see if that helps.
If even that doesn't work, try going to the fastboot mode as shown in that video and flash TWRP recovery directly, then you can flash any rom that has root but that might be even harder
Anyways since Lenovo has already released the source code for Vibe X3, I think it is only a matter of time before someone comes up with a way to root the device.
Hopefully many people buy this phone and we get a good community support for this device...

Oh then welcome to the Android world!
You may find that Android by default even without rooting is more customisable than iOS.
Let me know if you were not able to get root by AutoRoot also...
You can try directly via the fastboot method from that video or by the flashing tool for lenovo phones just use our Vibe X3 rom to flash instead of the Lenovo A850 mentioned in that link and I guess that should work.
And always backup your device before doing any of these since it may brick your device...

Yes , but i felt some Cons with Android OS , just used this for first time and from 6 days ,
1. you can install cracked apps or modded apps without rooting , but using Modded apps leads you to get banned , but in iOS we make tweaks which enhances your app feature never let get you banned except for Snapchat.
2.While Flashing Firmaware there is high risk to get bricked , but never in iOS either jailbreaking or if you get stuck just restore your device
now i downloaded TWRP for Moto X style cuz for Vibe X3 not available , also i don't have stock firmware VibeUI 3.0 , if anything happens how do i revert back .
no issues i don't give up , will definately find a way to make it possible

i got my answer
I guess you guys didn't follow my posts.
I'm pretty sure we need a developer version of ROM (like MIUI devices) to unlock the bootloader. Because everytime I ran the oem unlock command earlier I was prompted with an error saying I cannot run this command on the user version. And Lenovo calls the stable ROM as User version and they have Developer versions too. Atleast for the Chinese variants.
Everything is properly available for the Chinese variants of the phone here : http://www.vibeui.com/vibeui/download
But, there's nothing for the ROW variant anywhere.
I contacted the technical support via live chat to get the stock ROM so that we may attempt some dirty stuff(like trying to flash the Chinese variant's ROM).
The person told me to visit a service center for getting it. I contacted the service center and luckily they answered the call after multiple tries. They told I can come and get it from there.
I couldn't visit them that day, probably will try on 29th.
It seems we can get the stock ROM at first but yeah, you never know about these people. Maybe the person who received my call didn't really understand my request.
Let's see how it goes.

Lenovo s5 (k520) ZUI 3.7.177 ST Got root anyone?

Just got a new Lenovo s5 (k520 running ZUI 3.7.177 ST) but can't root it (tried KingRoot and Root Genius so far).
It has a nasty little OS (ZUI 3.7) which keeps killing apps it doesn't like. It took me two days to find an adblocker which would work (AdClear) after trying Dns66, Blokada and a couple of others which I can't recall. It's tightly locked down.
* Anyway, my question is... Has anyone had any luck with rooting this phone or OS?
* Or, has anyone any suggestions for apps or rooting options which might be more successful?
If there's any other people out there with this phone, I would seriously consider chipping in to buy one for a dev to work with... give me a yell if you're interested.
Cheers,
Specs:
OS ZUI 3.7 (based on Android O)
CPU Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 2.0GHz Octa core
ROM 64GB
RAM 4GB
Edit: Hmmm, I was hoping that the latest Magisk beta (16.6) might help, but no luck. It does seem to get further along but fails with an 'unable to find boot image' message (my apologies for not being able to quote that accurately). Nothing seems able to find that .img. Can't back it up either as no app can find it. Yes, I need to brush up my adb skills ...my last effort ended in an error reporting lack of appropriate key, as I recall (sorry, have a bit of a flu just now). Anyway, has anyone else been able to look at this phone? Anyone have any ideas (or just thoughts) about what I can do here?
Thanks.
Just to update.... I have tried every simple rooting option I can find -with no luck.
I have found one reference to installing twrp & rooting this phone, but I'm unsure how legit it is ...it just looks a little like its put together by a script; but maybe they just copy/paste a lot when writing tutes? (I have written to them but have had no response from them in a week). The tutorial makes reference to a dev/group in China successfully installing twrp, but only on a Chinese release, not international.
Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows of the group or people referenced at
http://tutoraplikasi.com/cara-root-lenovo-s5/
or if anyone might have an idea of the dev(s) in China working on twrp & lenovo?
Just a shot in the dark, really, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
Cheers.
OK, looks like time for some more serious reading and brushing up of old, much neglected skilz... I will probably close this thread and open another ( if there's no objections) in the xda twrp forum.
If anyone is interested, I'm looking to compile twrp for this device with a view to flashing magisk. Hopefully, it will work. Seems that adb & unlocking the bootloader is the only way I'm going to get to actually see the partitions holding the IMG files etc. (Though I do have one or two ideas about escalating privileges/permissions, but that's a whole other bunch of research -and time which is always short.)
Anyway, if you have an interest in rooting this phone have a look for a thread under twrp Q&A.
Cheers.
Seems like it was just a matter of waiting... XN Logos has come up with a solution, it appears --
https://www.stupdroid.com/2018/07/root-twrp-lenovo-k520.html?m=1
At least I managed some in depth reading in the meantime. I'll report back on success of the procedure.

Haven't actually tried yet. After all that looking for a root solution I now have been too busy. Will probably do it this Wednesday. I'll keep you posted. Did lineage work well? Any bugs or other issues? ZUI is a dog.
Yeah everything is okay... In the previous updates there was a problem with the audio in ear but now is solved. The only thing that is a little (but not dramatically) worse is battery life because in zui the fact that the os kills every app in background makes the battery last longer.
Hey guys, I know it is no the perfect thread for this yet this phone almost doesn't exist anywhere on the internet. I have the same issue with apps closing as you do. I wanted to install Lineage OS yet as there is no official release for lenovo S5. I would really appreciate some guidance on which release would I install and how. Would it be via the twrp? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I'm a lucky owner of this beautifull beast, the Lenovo S5 K520, but with the horfull ZUI3.7. I always have been using Cyanogen and after lineage OS.
It did not luck for me to install it on the Lenovo S5.
I manage to install TWRP-3.2.2-0713 with the help of the S-Droid toolkit for Lenovo S5.
From there, I did try every rom from phh on this page : https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development/lineage-phh-treble-t3767690
but the best I did get is the first logo of lineage OS going on and never stop for hours. I also did try AOSP treble Rom from this site : https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development/experimental-phh-treble-t3709659, but there I'm getting the Android text changing of ligth theme, but bothing more.
Could you please tell us the procedure and the version of the software you are using so that you are able to use Lineage OS on a Lenovo S5 K520?
Thanks a lot.

Hi everybody!
I was wondering if any of you have a copy of the original ZUI 3.7 non-Chinese stock firmware. I had trouble with my phone and contacted the customer service. Unfortunately, they've sent me the Chinese version (K520_CN_OPEN_USER_Q00011.0_O_ZUI_3.7.355_ST_180412_qpst) and now my phone is almost unusable as the rom only contains crappy Chinese stuff... :crying:
All apps are Chinese and it contains no GApps... I cannot even restore previously save config.
Please help me and send me a backup or the original non-Chinese firmware.
Thank you very much
I didn't even know the existence of an original firmware for non Chinese phones indeed when I bought it it came with a horrible chinese firmware with few translations. Did you find it? Because I want to try it too. If you didn't find it I'm also going to look for it
