How to root Viewpad 7?
Anybody suceeded?
Ok,
Use SuperOneClick, just make sure to click 'run as admin' if win7. That was were I screwed up.
In case you have issues here is a step by step:
a) Download the latest version of Super One Click (currently 1.6.5).
b) Place your Android device into debugging mode, and connect to computer.
c) Right-click the Super One Click executable and select 'Run As Administrator'.
d) At program launch select 'rageagainstthecage' exploit method, then select 'Root'.
e) If there is no activity for more than 30 seconds and the terminal display is stuck at 'Running rageagainstthecage....' remove the USB plug momentarily and plug back in.
f) You should get the message “***IF IT KEEPS LOOPING, TRY DISABLING USB DEBUGGING NOW***” followed by an ADB reset, waiting for device, and finally a successful rooting message. (Apparently the looping issue is a known bug).
g) Once this process is complete your prompted to test the root condition. Follow the steps to verify.
Yes, I rooted it that way. Thank you very much!
How about unroot with Super One Click, does it work too?

Now let's put Gingerbread or Honeycomb on it!!
I'm working on an AOSP port of Gingerbread for the Viewpad 7 as we speak. Once I can get the basics working I'll open a dedicated thread.

I don't know of any way TV out would be possible since there is no mini-HDMI port on the device. One of the main things that should be fixed is HD video playback. It really seems like Viewsonic rushed they're tablets to the market. Aside from that and lack of Flash I think it's a great tablet...especially for a developer. Having the 3G radio and GPS is really nice, as well as the screen compatibility mode.

It uses a Qualcomm MSM7227 ARM11v6 processor with Adreno 200 graphics, clocked at 600MHz. It's been benchmarked in direct comparison to it's 1GHz Snapdragon cousins, so don't let the clock speed fool you (performance would be comparable to the original Motorola Droid). It's certainly capable of running Flash, but Adobe has been less than forthcoming about releasing a version which will support this architecture.
There are many other devices using this chip that have been released just a couple months ago, so it is still very much in wide use. I don't think anyone has ever found a workaround (aside from using Flash Lite). So until Adobe comes around, we'll be stuck using Skyfire.

I just got my Vpad7 yesterday, and i'm already annoyed at the default 2.2. Even as rooted, my milestone with 2.3.3. still outshines it.
I cant even find an update.zip it'll accept. So when you got something worth testing, or a kernel worth booting, please allow me to test it

Because Adobe decided not to support the ARM11v6 processor architecture, even though they had a working build for it. You can use Skyfire browser to watch flash videos in the meantime.
BTW, guys, where to get and how to install custom recovery on Viewpad7 ?
I can't install custom ROM, reason of stock recovery wan't install unsigned update.zip ;(
Hallo guys..
I tried on my viewpad7, superoneclick 1.7 on linux ubuntu.. but no success.. any hint for me?
always stop at
chmod..
I read to do a adb reset, but I am a bit ..
For the recovery rom I saw in modaco that there is a clockwork recovery rom ad hoc.. but I need root to install it.
ahh, before root it, I wish to have a backup, anybody know a way to backed up the original rom ?
thank you!!!
Per request I've created a separate thread documenting the installation of alternative recovery partitions and installing custom firmwares. You can find it here:

Hello,
no it sounds that in linux the SuperOneclick doesn't work with this viewpad7..
I read some groups in germany and only windows 7 ... umm
But really there is no way to backup the rom before root?
I am in with adb .. but read not permitted..

I also suggest to add a link to an international ROM of REMIX OS that also includes English as system language and the Play Store is preinstalled .
This is the link:

I hope this will help... I used this rom for my video review
I think that is also possibile to install Win 8.1 or 10 in this tablet... someone has already tested it?

Found it and now have root on B2015092001. In regard to the GPS it appears it isn't working as when I run a GPS test utility it can't see any satellites however as long as you have it connected to a wifi network the tablet seems to have no problems finding your location for Google Maps or a weather app. While full GPS support would be nice to be honest I don't think I'd use it much in a tablet this size and I don't really miss it.
B201509001 with Play Store Results
I installed the newly available B201509001 from:
techtablets.com/2015/09/new-cube-i7-remix-intl-rom-supports-ota/
because someone mentioned better battery life, my most profound complaint about this tablet.
I can testify that battery life is considerably better, but perhaps at the expense of some functionality. I notice a few appearance changes scattered around the OS, but most are harmless. The big issue is the lack of GPS. I can turn it on in the settings, but no data is received from it by any application.
I don't know when to expect an update from Jide, but the Dell Venue 10 5050 uses the same Atom chipset and runs Android 5.0. I am not sure what exactly is preventing an update.
Updates from 4PDA:
1) We now have a working TWRP recovery thanks to users jemmini and Allegator. Version 2.8.7.0 to be exact. They do mention however that the swipe to unlock function is a bit tricky so it's best to disable it in the settings.

When you unpack the downloaded RAR file it has script to install (recovery.bat) however I found that didn't work for me. so here's the way to do it manually:
Ensure you have enabled "USB Debugging" under the hidden "Developer Options" menu
Plug the tablet into your computer via the top micro-usb port (the one you charge it on).
Find the folder that you unpacked the downloaded RAR file too
While holding down the left SHIFT key right-click on the folder and select "Open command window here"
In the command prompt that comes up type "adb reboot bootloader"
Wait for the tablet to reboot into bootloader mode
Once the bootloader menu is on the tablet's screen type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
Once it's finished flashing use the on-screen bootload menu to reboot into recovery and disable the screen time-out under setting
Go back to the main TWRP menu and reboot to system
2) There's a clean and stock android ROM due to be released tomorrow! Not sure if it will be KitKat or Lollipop but word is it will have working GPS.

Android 6 cannot be upgraded directly to 8. You will need to prepare a bootable sd to get into android 8 recovery then flash from there.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...eeui-0-9-5-beta-for-a8-a8-a7-m20-m30.4252235/
Download the file from there, and in TWRP, flash it as a system image. It should automatically redirect you to the setup. Keep in mind that the resolution and DPI will be incorrect. I fixed it using Easy DPI Changer.
There are some known bugs though. For example, Samsung Camera doesn't work (third party apps will work), and the face unlock. I'd recommend you read the page carefully. If you need anything else, let me know.
EDIT: Just noticed you want Android 12, not 11. My bad. You can try flashing Pixel Experience on your phone. Check this video. Look at the youtuber of this video too, I'm sure you'll find much more help there.

I tried flashing Android 12 GSI (Arrow and Corvus) but both GSI have lockscreen bug and I can't access my TWRP when flashed. I was wondering if you have any workarounds or fix for these issues. I also tried following the steps shown in the attached link to a YouTube video but there are no fix as well.
Just asked that yesterday, still waiting for reply. I really hope someone will finally make a custom rom designed for this device! GSI images have that bug, and some apps don't open. I'm so sick of staying on Samsung firmware.

Sorry for the late reply. The directory is already removed, so you should be good to go
Everybody knows that after upgrading to C_07, we lost access to mtkclient, root, and many more, and Oneplus support sucks.
So, this guide will help you go back to Android 11 and back to root.
This rollback install will wipe all your data, so make a backup first. I did it on my own device and took the risk of bricking it, and I did it once because I'm not nuts to do it again. Only do it if you are comfortable. I'm not responsible for any damage to your device.
I was on C_10 (Android 12) and downloaded the rollback package for Android 13 from https://community.oneplus.com/thread/1267587167833030657 (I posted the links from the source below because Oneplus has the bad habit of removing the links). Download the appropriate file to your device. If you don't know, you have to download all three and try them.
Links:
ROM IN: https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/11011_oplus_ota_downgrade.zip
ROM EU: https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/21342_Beta1__downgrade_ota_CPH2409.zip
ROM GLO: https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/21342_Beta1__downgrade_ota_CPH2409_10100111.zip
Go to update, and if you do not see the local install, you need to go to the build number and click seven times to enable developer options.
After downloading, rename the file to oplus_ota_downgrade.zip. Go to update, select local update, and install this package. When the install finishes, the device will reboot and will be wiped. After that, you need to configure your device. At this time, the device will be on C_09.
Go to update, and a third option will be available, the option to join the beta or something like that. Click on that, and after requesting to join the beta test, go back and click again on update, and a new update to (Android 13) F.45 will show if I remember correctly. Once done, download the rollback package to Android 11, available on https://www.droidwin.com/downgrade-oneplus-nord-ce-2-from-android-12-to-android-11/.
ROM IN: https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/oplus_ota_downgrade_Rollback.zip
ROM EU: https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/oplus_ota_downgrade_Rollback_EEA.zip
ROM GLO: https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/oplus_ota_downgrade_Rollback_GLO.zip
Remember to rename it to oplus_ota_downgrade.zip. Go to update, select local install, and choose the zip file. After applying this update (which will take more time than before, it looks like it's broken at 94%, but just wait), the device will be wiped again. Done with the setup again (now you are on A_13 Android 11), power off the device, and press Vol- and Power, and you will have access to fastboot. Yes, now we have fastboot back! On a computer, plug in your device (supposedly, you had installed drivers before).
Execute:
fastboot devices
And, if it returns something like this: SOMERANDOMCARACTERS(Serial number of your device) fastboot
Execute:
fastboot flash preloader preloader_oplus6877.bin (this preloader is attached to this post).
And you're done! Now you can use mtkclient again. Just remember not to update your device until we find a way to keep the preloader vulnerable to the mtkclient exploit.
Thank you so much for posting this!
Hi @brunowm perfect guide... and thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as I am not an expert on these things and I only want to rollback to Android 11... few (perhaps silly) questions (I am in android 12 build number IV2201_11_C. 10) at the moment:
- do i need to be connected to wifi when doing these operations?
- What am i doing wrong that sometimes goes to "safe mode" and I can't get it out from there at all, only by trying to install the rollback (which fails, look next).
- I wish to understand better why when I try directly to install this: oplus_ota_downgrade_Rollback_EEA.zip (your second set of links) it starts installing but stops at 16%, then reboots and says that the update failed. Is it because of missing the beta installation that you pointed first?
- However, I tried with the beta file (21342_Beta1__downgrade_ota_CPH2409.zip) but the verification fails.... it says that package is not compatible with your system ... could this be because I am in Android 12 and this is the rollback from Android 13? Nonetheless you do mention this situation, so I am a bit confused :-(
- Also, it seems that one of those downgrade.zip files helps you to downgrade first from 12.1 to 12. This file is verified, recognized but similarily to the one that goes from 12-->11 it stops at 16%, reboots and then it shows message that it failed...
I'm really desperate so, any light at the end of the tunnel is highly appreciated!
ps.
- is there any possibility to rollback to earlier oxygen versions for example 1.2 or so?

Hi, you have renamed the downloaded file 21342_beta1__downgrade_ota_cph2409.zip to oplus_ota_downgrade.zip ? It's better doing with internet (wifi or 5G) off. After this install you will be able to update to Android 13 and from this version (F_45) you can rollback to Android 11
Hey @brunowm, I followed your first step and was able to roll back to C_09. However, there are no available beta programs to update my phone to Android 13. Should I bite the bullet and proceed with step 2 or is there a known issue that the second step will not work with Android 12?
Hi, I just wanted to give an update @brunowm . I was able to downgrade the OS to C_09 from C_10, by following your first step. However, the option to join the beta program is not available to me, hence I cannot join the Android 13 beta yet.
I can't execute your second package since I am experiencing the same issue as @k.whatamidoing where the downgrade terminates at 16%.
Do you have any idea if there is any criteria I need to meet for joining the beta program? I have already enabled developers option.
