Hi all,
New to the forum. I just purchased this head unit, and I'd like to modify it to:
1. Remove all app use restrictions while driving
2. Use the standard android app switcher that will allow me to split screen apps
Any suggestions?

Hello,
I'd like to figure out a way to use Llama to send an HTTP GET request to my home automation system. In particular I wish to turn the power to the charger on and off based on battery percent as this tablet will be mounted on a wall. Since Llama seems to require opening of the browser to do this, I'm assuming this would require another app. My question is, does one exist? I just want a shortcut that will execute a HTTP request in a completely invisible fasion. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I have the same request. Do you find a solution?

Yes. I wrote my own little app that will create shortcuts. It's not in the Play store but I could try to send it to you if you'd like.
I find a solution with the app Tasker. This app could send an Http request but i have other issue. The better way will be to make my own app. If you could send me your version, it will be a great help for starting.
(Sorry for my English)

I just sent you an email with the apk attached. I just downloaded the Tasker trial and wasn't super impressed. Perhaps if it were free I would've made use of it but I enjoyed the opportunity to learn a little about Android development. What was your issues with Tasker?
Let me know if my app works for you.
Hello !
I'm also looking for a similar solution.
I use Llama and I need to update my Android GPS location through a HTTP POST.
I really don't want to use tasker... Do you have clues for me ? I'm able if needed to create an APK.
Thanks !

The little app I wrote is only designed to make a static HTTP request. In other words, it won't be able to read any Llama variables or anything like that. However, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to modify the app to support what you're looking to do. I could send you the source code privately if you promise to send me back your changes.
@mrceolla Could you send me the app and source code. I shall send back any changes I do.
I previously had a rooted Samsung S3, so as soon as I set up the phone, all my old apps started getting restored, which was what I wanted. I noticed that superuser was one of the apps that installed successfully. This got me thinking: Is the Nexus 5 rooted from the factory?
There is also a problem I have encountered. I installed Baidu Input, which is a Chinese input. It seems to not work correctly because the Nexus 5 has the 3 buttons on the bottom of the screen (back, home, multitask). Whenever I use the handwriting function of the Baidu Input, the input thinks I am touching an area that is higher than where my finger really is. This offset is the same height as the height of the 3 buttons on the bottom. I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this.
Thanks!
No its not rooted from the factory. Supersu is an app from the play store. It is nothing without the binaries. You need to unlock boot loader, flash or run a custom recovery, then flash a supersu.zip package.
Sent from my Nexus 5
Okay, so your first question has been answered
Regarding the second one: I have to admit that I didn't look for the app you installed, but I'd recommend you to use the official one provided by Google It's called "Google Pinyin" and should be pre-installed if I'm not wrong. If not, you can grab it from here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.inputmethod.pinyin&hl=de
If it's installed just head over to 'settings -> language & input' and activate it

Thanks for the reply, but I need the handwriting function of Baidu. I don't know pinyin.
In which case contact the Baidu dev as they'll need to fix it on the Nexus 5

Oh, alright. I thought it was a problem with the Nexus 5. Thanks!
I am looking for a voice activated software or app that I can hide on my child's phone and download remotely or listen remotely. If I have to, I will settle for one that I download once per week or so.
I am also looking for a way to hide software or app on the phone so that I can remote in and see what is on the phone and or down load files.
thanks
Hi, I see you've also posted this question hre, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/hidden-voice-activated-recorder-app-to-t3135633 That's a better place than Assist. Also, please follow XDA rules and only post the same question in one area. I'll close this thread.
Hi All
I want to use my Gear S3 for paragliding. Does anyone know of anyway to have the Altimeter stay on screen without timing out? I need to have it on screen for the duration of the flight which could be 1-2hrs.
Many Thanks
Myles
not without interacting with the app every 30 seconds.
I've requested the ability to keep an active app open until manually closed, and i suggest you do the same.
more people requesting it means a bigger chance they'll change it.
you can suggest changes here: https://help.content.samsung.com/csweb/ticket/createQuestionTicket.do

This app keep your gear active. I dont try in s3 but in s2 works fine

this is the correct link.
it does exactly what is expected, thanks.
it also gives you true AOD, it won't even allow the screensaver clock to appear.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Downloaded the app in the link and it works great. Thank you, this has solved my issue. Now I can use my S3 for flying.

Your link doesn't work for me. I'm in Spain, and the link just brings up a page with a message in Spanish offering to redirect me to Galaxy apps. No other option, so I accept that and it does indeed open the Galaxy Apps store on my phone - but just at the home page. I need to know the name of your app so I can search for it on there. Can you please therefore confirm the name of your app?
it's called "I Am Alive"
most likely the app isn't available for your region, so your galaxy apps app opens the main page instead.

Thanks. I searched for "I Am Alive" in the Galaxy appps store and found it without difficulty, and have downloaded it. Thanks heaps. Just shows, for marketing and practical reasons it's always a good diea to state the actual name of your app whenever you refer to it.
Hi everyone,
The main reason I got this watch was to use as a secondary alti whilst skydiving. I chose it based on the fact that I could use the app to keep the app open.
I tested it during a jump today and unfortunately the watch was still going back to sleep after 2 or 3 minutes. Have Samsung updated the OS to prevent wakelock of any type or something? Has anyone got a workaround or an alternative app?
Alternatively, does anyone know of an android wear OS app method to do this? I may have to refund the S3 and switch to the Huawei watch 2 if I can't get this working unfortunately. It would be a shame if I had to, its a beautiful smart watch (although I have found it to be very limited in certain ways).
Thanks
I'm thinking about installing an Amazon Echo or similar into my car as an AI interface.
Question, is there an input and/app that will mute or pause any music player currently in use and let Alexa or google home talk back?
Similar to your phone pausing or muting when an incoming call or notification comes in.
Or, has anyone managed to run Alexa in their Android unit? I.E. convert their Head unit into an echo or dot etc?
I have not purchased an echo or dot yet, and I'll probably go down the line of Raspberry Pi just for the tinker inside of me.
Cheers.
why not just install the Alexa app from the play store?
you still require the echo/dot unit to run it.
Your phone or other Android unit is only the settings portal.
Alexa needs to communicate through her own hub unit

That's not true at all. The app has full Alexa functionality as well as being used for changing the settings on other devices. The only difference is you have to press a button to activate instead of saying Alexa
Thanks.
I'll look into it.
I've seen on line some people connecting Alexa via Bluetooth into their headunit and also connecting her into the OBD2 input.
Think I'll just take the plunge and pick one up to tinker with in the meantime
Any update on this? Anyone successful in running echo or Google home with this using Bluetooth?
Uhh, we have android head units, and the google home is the same thing as OK or Hey Google on the head unit lol, this is redundant and pointless guys.

Agree , its pointless provided the HU works fine with google assistant, but most of the time its not! Either it crashes or hangs the system or very slow to respond!
Update?

Any luck? I love Alexa at home and would be great in car with wake word. Can you ask for directions, play music , trigger home events? I receive my head unit tomorrow.
I run alexa on my Chinese head unit, it's not perfect, but I set it to load automatically and it does respond to voice, ie no button pressing, it's faster and less processor hungry than Google assistant.
It will quite happily play and change radio channels, music, news etc and loads Google maps with my route when I say "alexa, navigate home" for example.
Only issue is, you can't run the app in auto mode so I run it with a split screen, nav on one side, alexa on the other.
Responds to my voice even with lots of road noise.

I have no idea what that even means, however, it's just a generic, android head unit with 2gb ram.

Well I was replying to someone who asked about using alexa/Google on a car head unit... I didn't realise I would be made so unwelcome.! And as for posting info, it's not up to you to tell me what to post... a please or thank you would be nice!

On your headunit there should be a screen that has About...System... or System Info or the like. Having a screenshot of this screen can be helpful to know exactly what kind of headunit you have (i.e. manufacturer, firmware versions, Android version, etc). There are identifying details on that screen that can be helpful to others on the forum.
It helps bring context to both help requested and help provided by forum members. Plus it helps forum moderators ensure questions end up in the right forum. Basically. one could expect similar results to your experience using alexa/Google on same or similar specfication headunit. How else would anyone else know if they have same/similar headunit without that identifying screenshot of About System?
Just trying to explain why it is desirable to have the details that a screenshot of the About System can provide.
I get that, but the other user was a tad curt.

So it's not an MTCx type device.
