Question set notification sound in Gmail not system default - Samsung Galaxy A52 4G

i am trying to set a separate notification sound for incoming email in Gmail for ny A52 5G.
in the Apps setting, i select Gmail, then Notifications and then Mail.
when the window opens, it shows underneath Sound the system default. uf u tap on that, it loads the Ringtones for Phone app. if I download a sound file, it will not let me set it for only Gmail.
i have also tried to download a sound file from Zedge, but can not assign it to the Gmail app.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First of all, this is the 4G model page, please use the 5G one if you have the 5G variant, though we can help you this time around.
That aside, go into the Gmail app, then tap on the 3 bars on the top left then scroll down to settings. From there go into General Settings, then Manage Notifications, you'll be sent into the settings app for Gmail. Tap on Email, then Sound and then choose from the default notification sounds. As far as I'm aware, you can only use the sounds on the phone itself.

thank you for the information. i must have misread the forum header and thought it was the 5g.
i went to the Samsung support site last night, and after a long chat with an actual Samsung support eep, it seems that you can't set up separate sounds for apps on the A52 5g. you can only change the default system sound, contact Ringtone or phone ringtone.
Thanks again for the prompt reply.

That's strange. The software between these two phones are very much the same. Do try what I've told you because I had to change the notif sound for my email accounts so that I wouldn't confuse between my 2 email addresses when an email got in.
Do post it on the 5G forum too, just in case someone has done it there too. Best of luck!
Edit: Customer Support is usually quite bad with these kind of things, so I wouldn't bet on them even understanding what you were trying to do, just saying.

thanks. I did try that before I contacted support amd and ended up changing the system default notification sound.
tried it a number of different ways,. but at least on the 5g model,. when you select the option to change the sound, it always takes you to the"Ringtones for Phone" app which doesn't allow you to just select a sound for the app. If you select a sound and then download it, you can set it for the Ringtone, Notification, Alarm or Contact.
if you select Notification,.it prompts for confirmation amd and if you confirm,.it changes the system default notification sound.

[Q] Issue with Notification Sounds

Earlier this week I installed the latest version of Cognition. This was my first time to root the phone and try a new OS. So far it works great, with one small exception. I cannot get the notification sounds to work correctly.
In the main settings menu I can change sounds, but no matter what I change it to, there is no effect. It still plays the same sound when I get an email.
I use k-9 mail, which has no option (that I can find) for notification sound. I did change the sound in the default email just to see if that would work, but it did not.
I changed the sound in the menu for messaging, and that worked for text messages.
Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions?
K-9 sets the notification sound on a per account basis. When viewing an account's folder list or while viewing a folder's contents tap Menu->More->Settings->Account settings->Notifications.
There is a setting under the global settings to create a 'quiet time' when notifications don't sound.
Ok - Now I feel like a total idiot
Thanks so much. I do appreciate it.

You're not alone. I just found this thread through searching for a solution to the exact same "issue".
Notification sounds set for email, and IM+. but text messages stays default sound no matter how many times its changed. Only have this issue with Cognition 4.1.1. Any ideas how to fix?

Personalized notifications for contacts not working...

I posted this in the AT&T S8+ Forum, figured i'd post in here too, might get faster help. I did do a couple searches before posting, but if someone has already addressed this I apologize.
Hi all, I seem to be unable to get individual text notifications working on my S8+. That is, I go into the contact, I find where it says "Message Tone" and I set the tone I'd like to use. When I go in and look, everything seems to be correct.
Then when a text comes in, the default notification is still used. This is the case when both a tone that I added is used, or a built in tone. I had thought perhaps it was because I was using a 3rd party texting app (Textra, was not a fan of the default Samsung app), but even when I reset to the Samsung messages app, this was still the case (I even tried restarting the phone after setting messages as the default, just to make sure).
Anybody else having this issue? Anybody fix it? I've tried everything I can find, hopefully one of you can point out something obvious that I've missed.

I am. I've attached a screenshot for a contact I'm using as a test (my GVoice number). It LOOKS like it's set up correctly (at least to me) just not working correctly. Personalized Ring Tones seem to work, but not text notifications.
The phone is doing a couple other quirky things. I'm wondering if it might be time to just say "F it" and do a hard reset.

Here are the screens I get when changing a ringtone or messaging tone. Didn't get the screenshot low enough for messaging tone, it's right below ring tone.

Yeah, I don't think I'm doing anything differently. Weird that ring tones work but not text messages. I had a couple different contact managers installed (don't really like the Samsung one) and thought maybe they were causing the issue, so uninstalled them and rebooted. Still no go.
I do like the look of the dark theme for the contacts app though, definitely gonna change it to that!
I also use Textra on my S8+, as I don't like the default one, and you set the personalized tones in Textra not contacts.
In Textra, go to one of the texts from someone that you want to customize and long press it, then go the three dot menu in the upper right corner and select customize. Then select Notifications, then notification sound and pick the one that you want.
Works perfectly...

:victory: The files are IN the computer!! It's so obvious!! Thanks so much, this has been driving me nuts.
Still a little weird it wouldn't work when I reset the phone to the Samsung app, but now I don't care because this works!! Thank you so much.

Weird gmail notifications returning after being dismissed issue.

I'm getting this weird issue where when I dismiss notifications from gmail, they will immediately come back and then dismiss themselves again one by one.
Easier to show than to explain, so here's a video: https://photos.app.goo.gl/PnGCYlIdcX5ua4Ji2
It's really annoying, especially since the notifications are also sent to my gear S2 watch which then just buzzes like crazy as my phone is cycling through all the notifications.
I've used all the google-fu I know and came up with pretty much nothing, so I'm hoping someone here can help me figure this out.
Potentially related: I get notifications for new e-mails pretty much as soon as they come in, but if I go to gmail on my computer and read or delete that e-mail, the notification won't update. It definitely used to, and I'm not really sure when that changed.
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!
I'm unable to play the video to see the notification . . . my internet is terrible right now. Perhaps you could just put up a single photo of the notification, or enter the text into your original post?
Check your setting for "Notification Reminders" under the Accessibility tab & find what you may have unknowingly switched on.
Happened to me once, I know how annoying it can be lol.
Hope this helps!
I get the same thing. Seems to be nothing to do to stop it however you may be able to reduce it to one notification in the gmail app settings just go to the app settings tap your email then about halfway down tap inbox, sound and vibrate and make sure notify for every msg is unchecked. Hope this helps.
I appreciate all the suggestions, unfortunately none of them seem to be the solution for me ...
JeffDC - A photo won't show anything, it will either show notifications there, or not, while the issue is when I dismiss a notification, it then comes back again after ~1 sec as another notification, then dismisses again after another couple of seconds, instead of properly dismissing the first time around.
og21 - Notification reminders were already off in accessibility settings.
wombat_combat - Notify for every message is already unchecked.
I get the same, haven't found a fix, but haven't looked hard either.
I suppose theirs still no solution? Been happening to me for months.
Same thing here. Haven't been able to find a solution. Galaxy S10 and only happens for my work email inside the secure folder.
Tagging this one again since it appeared on my google search.
On my previous Galaxy S8+ when I dismissed the notifications (notification shade) occasional a gmail notification (one just dismissed) would pop back up then immediately dismiss itself.
On my new S20 FE when I dismiss the notifications occasionally a gmail notification (one just dismissed) pops back up as if it was a new notification and stays there until dismissed again.
This happens when I clear it from the notifications and as soon as I swipe up the Gmail notification shows again. It's been happening for a while and I don't know how to tell them to fix it.
2021, this is still happening to me all the time. Gmail notifications come back to haunt me after clearing them. Sometimes they disappear after a few seconds, sometimes I have to dismiss them again.
Pixel 5.
I do have a suspicion it might be caused by Samsung Wear, maybe I'll remove notification access from it to see...
Update: ^ didn't work -.-
Same here. Stock Pixel 4a. Only one Google Account set up (which is a quite old Google Apps account).
Edit: The issue was also present on my former mobile, a Nokia 6.1, also running Stock firmware.
I'll bump this, too - same issue for months, Gmail notification pops (w/audio) immediately after I dismiss it. Have also tried all the "Google-fu" I know.
Pixel 4 XL - A11, stock and updated.
November 2021.
Still the same..
This is getting annoying AF.
Android should be better than IOS because it let the users control everything.
But what is with this crap.
I could not find any solution to let the notification notify ONLY when something new comes....
But I haven't tried hard either...
Anyone got any solution on this?
Go to your Gmail settings. General settings. Click on account. Scroll down to "nudges". Turn off. Repeat for each account.

How to set different notification ringtone for different apps?

I would like to set different notification ringtones for gmail and sms. However, I cannot figure it out on P20. Any ideas? Thx.
You can set the individual ringtones in the settings of Gmail, Messages etc.

Ok cool, explain !?
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
For example, in Messages, click the menu button (top right), then select Settings -> Notifications -> Sound. Select the sound you like.
In Gmail: click the hamburger menu (top left), then scroll all the way down and select Settings. Select your account, then click Manage Notifications. Click on Mail -> Sound. Then select the sound.
Well it's not possible on the P20 Pro
I've looked everywhere how to set different tones for SMSes, Calendar events et emails et it's just impossible. I can't understand why Huawei would block that. It's so basic. Same thing with Gmail lables: impossible to set a specific tone per label. Why?!
same on P20, it just vibrates...what the heck
I replaced the SMS app with another one that allowes to change the tone (truecallers). For the calendar I use the Huawei app for the notifications only. Now for Gmail, I haven't found the way to set a particular tone for a specific label (which I could do on my previous phone).
And I have a problem with Airbnb that doesn't allow to change the notifications tone; my P20 Pro set it to "default" which is most inconvenient.
Same issue here, it seems that Huawei removed the option to choose a specific notification sound in notification management. I can't seem to understand the reasoning behind such a decision... Hopefully they will fix that in a future update
Can't change ringtone....
Wait--- they produced the fanciest camera-phone ever, costs a ferking THOUSAND dollars, and you can't change the sound that incoming gmails / SMS's make??? (On my new P20 Pro this appears to be the case)
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.
That's exactly it! It seems unbelievable. Worse... You cannot get rid of the Huawei calendar, therefore when you have Google calendar AND Huawei calendar running at the same time and that you want to add an event with the voice assistant, at the end, you have to manually tap on the calendar you want to enter the event in! No way to complete the task totally handsfree. I'm so not buying another Huawei phone the next time (even though the camera is great).
I'm really disappointed by this too, this is a huge problem! Android has had this ability for years, it makes no sense to take it away.
Same issue hete

I think I've found a good solution! The AutoNotification app lets you set the sound for any of an apps Notification Categories! I haven't completely tested it yet but so far it seems to be doing what I need.

Hi, have you got this sorted yet?
I have not long had my P20 Pro and have also found it frustrating but I have sat and played around with it and found the solution, albeit it a bit of a hassle to do!
Apologies for no doubt going over old ground here, but I need to work on the assumption that there maybe others, slightly less experienced, that may also be trying to work this out.
Ringtone first! Use a computer and Windows Media Player, to first get your desired tunes/tones onto. (Rip into Media Player using MP3 from the settings tab).
Next, unlock your P20 Pro and connect to your computer using the supplied USB cable, once connected, swipe the screen down and select the “MTP” option (file transfer). Your P20 Pro will then be recognised by your computer and will quickly show up in Media Player on the right hand side.
It’s then just a matter of dragging and dropping any content from the left side of the Media Player window into this area on the right. Once done, be sure to click “sync” above your devices name.
Then disconnect your P20 Pro from the computer, go to “Settings”, then “Sounds”, scroll up until you see “Phone ringtone”, click this, next select “Music (on storage)” at the top right, choose your desired tune by popping a dot in the adjoining circle and finally click on the tick, top right corner, to apply. Done!
Next, Email notification sounds.
I have my home screen setup so that once unlocked, I can see the “@“ icon (with Email written underneath it) in the middle bottom section of the screen, but it is this icon you will need to use, if it’s not where mine is!
Although this may seem very odd, I can assure you that it works.
You MUST use this icon “@“ to setup your email account(s) in order to then be able to set different tunes/tones for each of them.
The first time you hit the “@“ icon you will be prompted to select what type of mail account you are using etc, follow all relevant onscreen prompts to get setup.
Whichever mail account you add first will become the default sender for emails, this can only be changed once you have added an additional email account.
Once your account(s) have been successfully setup, exit back to the home screen, only so that we are starting from the same point!
Select the “@“ icon, the default sending account opens first, next, click the three dots at the bottom right labelled “More”, then select “Settings”, look under the section “ACCOUNTS” and select which account you wish to deal with, next, scroll the screen up until you see the section “NOTIFICATION SETTINGS”, from here select “Choose ringtone”, and finally, select “Music (on storage)” to find the tunes/tones that you previously added using Windows Media Player, place a dot in the corresponding circle, click the tick to the the top right of the screen to apply your selection. This technique can now be used for all other email accounts, to give you separate tunes/tones for each email account.
You can, of course, also use a third party app, such as “Zedge Ringtones” and once you have selected and downloaded your chosen tone, it will appear under your phones settings/sounds/phone ringtone or default notification sound/Sound
Hope this helps, my P20 Pro is now finally personalised to my own liking!
I think I have worked it out.
Click on setting then click on general settings.
Then click on manage notification
Under you email address you will see - Email normal: allow these notifications. Click on the writing and not on the blue slide at the end.
Under notification category a little way down you will see sound. Change your notification

Traded up from Honor 8 where I was happy as a clam regarding the notification options. I had them all just right: different ringtone for each SIM, separate notifications for my email accounts and, most importantly, different tones for SMS on each of my SIMs, plus the general notification tone for everything else. Now here I am, holding my Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS and all I get is ONE notification tone for my SMS and any other notifications.
Seriously?!

Maybe someone has found the solution? I can’t believe P20 can’t set different tone for notifications and mail. It has tons of unuseful settings, but this one was essentiall! If I knew this before, I would never ever bye Huawei P20!! It’s a disaster! (
Unfortunatelly you can't.

Messenger sound notification keeps resetting when I disable it

When I disable sound notification for messenger ( set it for none in OxygenOS notification settings), it keeps reseting every time I receive a message. Its annoying because I want to have ringtone enabled and other notifications enabled but I dont want any sound from messenger. How Can I fix that? I also tried to download a few seconds no sound file and set it as a notification, but it still resets.
Strange... Have you tried choose None shown in the photo for all types of notifications in Messenger?
Otherwise i guess you could change the priority of the notifications from Messenger from "important" to "other"...
I had the same problem and I found out thats a common problem on OOS since years. The only working solution is setting the prority to other.

I can't see how this is an OP problem. I just go into the Messenger settings, not the OP settings, and and set the notofication options for Messenger to what I want them to be and that's it, no problem on my OP8 (EU).

My friends have xiaomi, samsung, Motorola and they dont have problem like that. You can find similar threads on oneplus forum, reddit or facebook groups. I can change notification sound for any stock sound and system saves that, but when I choose "none" it is just resetting and Im getting sound notification when someone send me message or If I close app. The problem is also when I download and set my own notification sound. Previously I had 10.5.10.IN21BA and after turning off the sound for the messenger, there was no sound for 1 hour or 3 hours and suddenly after some time the notification sound turned on again.

Sorry I forgot to mention you also have to set every notification type "Minimize" to off, then it would be OK.
