Hi everyone.
I got a watch 4 classic a few days ago and I've been liking it a lot. I've heard that battery life is a bit tricky in the first few days until the device learns my patterns and everything but I really got a bit frustrated with the sleep tracking drain. Got around 20% drain in the first couple of nights without any sensors enabled besides HR every 10 minutes.
From what I've read this is new as the previous generations had very little drain with sleep tracking but I've also seen some people with much better battery drain with watch 4 as well in the same scenario as myself. Is there anything known to cause this differences in battery drain?
Thanks
drained 13% for me with both hr and blood oxygen enabled constantly.
make sure enable bedtime mode
15% drain with HR/SPO2 set to continuous with snore tracking. Make sure you kill all background apps before sleeping, ensure you dont have a battery sucking watchface....and put it to bedtime mode to ensure it doesnt wake up and drain battery when you go about doing your sleep things

This is something I've only recently started paying attention: background apps. I'll do a few tests on it.
Thanks for the heads-up
How to kill my background apps?

Swipe up to show your apps drawer....tap on the 2 circles icon (recents) and scroll all the way to the left and tap close all
For me (SGW 4 Classic LTE) the battery drain in sleep tracking with HR only I get more than 25% drain. I would like to add that the LTE variant, with or without mobile plan, drains more than 60% of my battery even with Mobile networks turned off from the Settings menu. The firmware is DUJA.

I have been using my N5 for a couple of weeks and I know its battery life isn't the greatest. I have watched some youtube videos for tips on better battery life, and here's what I have done.
Turn off auto brightness, and screen brightness is about 1/4 of the way
Turn off haptic feedback
Turn off vibration on keypress
Turn off sync for most Google services
Turn off NFC
Location service set to battery saving mode
But it seems like after all that's been done, the battery is still draining pretty fast. For example, I went out for dinner and drinks with friends and my phone is just sitting in my pocket the whole time not being used, 4 hours later, I have lost 30% battery. Coming from an htc one, it doesn't drain nearly as much. Is this abnormal or just about right for the N5, thoughts?

7.5%/hr is high for standby time. You can get it down to 1-2%/hr by using more of the battery-saving tips you'll find in the various threads on the subject.

Check the wakelock with better battery stat
If you don't need GPS on all the time turn that off too saves quite a bit of battery even the battery saving mode isn't that battery friendly

You really need to share your battery usage screen, and show what apps drained your battery. It is possible that you were had low signal strength, and so your phone kept trying to search for a signal and drained itself. Also, as dark_ente suggested, look at betterbatterystats results to see if you had wakelocks.
With no active use, that is very high drain - unless you were in a very low signal strength area, or had an app keeping your phone awake.
When I work from home, connected to WiFi, my phone drains about 3-4% in about 9 hours (assuming I don't actively use it. I use pushbullet to show me all notifications on my PC, so I don't have to turn my phone on at all)

Turn off sync for most Google services - I leave sync on
Turn off NFC - I leave it on
Location service set to battery saving mode - I do the same - but set up a tasker profile to enable GPS when I launch maps - Disabling GPS helped the most in my case

When you say turning off GPS and only enable it while launching maps, do you mean turn off location completely? Does that affect other Google apps/services? Such as Google now
If all else fails, do a factory reset.

I noticed from the past few days that my N5 seems to have abnormal battery usage pattern. There are days with mostly light use (text messaging, whatsapp messaging, some web browsing, minimal on screen time) I can go for 2 days without charging, and I am only losing 1% battery per hour when it's in stand by. However, they are times (see attachment) when I didn't use my phone for 11 hours, and the battery level is down from fully charged to 26%. Can anyone give me some ideas on what may be the culprit?

you need 'better battery stats' log. . . stock battery screen tells you almost nothing

No. I keep location enabled all the time, but in battery saver mode - that way, google now, weather widgets etc can get my approximate location (using cell tower triangulation), but can't activate my GPS for accurate location fix.
When I use maps/navigation (which in my case is the only time when I need accurate GPS location fix), I change from battery saving location to the GPS type location fix, and when I'm done with maps/nav, I switch back to battery saving location.
If you turned location off completely, google now, and possibly other apps (like weather widgets for current location) won't work.

From your 2nd screen print, you can see that your phone was awake pretty often. As @Enddo wrote, betterbatterystats should help you figure out what is causing the wakelocks.

I am still pretty new to Android and I don't know how to root my phone. I did check out betterbatterystats on google play, it says the app doesn't work on non-rooted Android phone running kitkat, that's why I haven't installed it yet. It seems that kitkat made some changes which prevent battery usage apps from working properly, wake lock detector also won't work on non-rooted phones running kitkat

While betterbatterystats will work on kitkat (unrooted), it won't give you partial wakelock summary That requires root)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15869904&postcount=3 - see FAQ 1 and 3. You can download the kitkat compatible version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
As PhilipTD wrote, rooting a N5 is pretty easy, but if you don't feel comfortable doing it, don't.
If you decide to root, follow the steps in first post at the link that PhilipTD provided.
Note that Step 1 (unlocking bootloader) will wipe out all your data.
Before you root, why not disable GPS (keep location active) and see if that helps? Also, how often do you reboot your phone?
I have a Mi2S and I'm running the latest stock ROM 4.4.23.
Ever since the 4.4.11 update I've had poor idle battery life.
Before that when I look at my battery usage, as long as I have good signal and the screen is off, the battery level graph is flat.
Now, almost always when my phone is idle, no matter what there is some heavy drain, it was approximately 25% over 12 hours.
I've tried all the MI2S updates since then and they are all having this issue. I have not installed any new apps or changed anything on my current ones.
Attached are some wakelock detector screenshots.
Sometimes 小米服務 has many wake alerts, but sometimes it does not. Weather app is disabled, and autosync is disabled too. Occasionally 小米服務 does not have many wake alerts but that doesn't seem to reduce idle power draw, and I think it had this many wakes before as well.
Also the 3h wakelock app is the music player; the idle drain happened when the music player was off.
Thanks for reading.
Bump...
So I spent a night in airplane mode, and voila! 3% drain over about 12 hours!
I'm still trying to figure out exactly what it is, but whenever I get the chance to I'm going to spend another night in airplane mode with wifi on.
Bump...
There is a nice little utility app called power tutor, which shows you exactly which app drains your device. Maybe the problem isn't rom related...
You can find it on the play store.
I have a serious problem with stand-by time of my galaxy s7.
I have updated my device to Nougat and i am using ForceDoze to put the phone to sleep (without root, with adb command), although i am not sure if it is really working.
I lose about 3-4% battery every hour when idle.
With idle i mean always on display on, wifi or data on, gps and bluetooth off, power saving off.
When i check better battery stats and accubattery, it shows the phone in deep sleep most of the time.
I think this amount is ridiculous. It shouldn't consume more than 2% with this setup, assuming AOD consumes 1% per hour.
I don't have a problem with screen-on time. Only with stand-by time.
Do you have any suggestions for me? What could be the problem?
Find out what is running on your phone by going to running services. Disable the apps you dont need running, turn off always on display and see your battery times then. Clearly something is running in the background and this is up to you to find out what is running....
Second option root your phone, uninstall the bloat and install greenify.

Hi mate
Most of times is configuration issues or a rouge app , install a an like BBS let it run for a few hours and check the log to see who is keeping the phone awake.
review your settings wifi , location email, FB ........
I think i found what the problem is. It is always-on display. Last night, i turned it off. With only wi-fi on, i lost 1% per hour.
Apparently, AOD consumes way more juice than i thought.

I found AOD prevented Doze from working, which in turn used way more in idle, so it's not specifically AOD draining it, it's because it's not at it's lowest power state during idle
I have had a battery drain for several weeks now. It isn't to severe but the biggest issue bothering me the most is at night it is draining about 5-6% even with battery saver turned on. It used to be that in normal mode, the battery would only drop 2-3% over night. I do not charge at night.
I am fully updated and I even reset the phone to factory 2 days ago and the issue still persists. Nothing seems to stand out in the battery stats with regards to apps sucking battery %. So I think this is an issue where it is not going into Doze or Deep Doze but I dont know how to determine that.
Any suggestions how to find the problem?
(on android 10)
When you wake up in the morning...
Go into "Settings"
Then "Battery"
Then click the top right three dots
Then select "Battery Usage"
It should show you which apps used the most battery during the night.

I have done that. No apps appear to be doing anything unusual. There are no battery hogs showing up. Not even excessive google services usage or anything. That is why I think this may be a situation where it isn't going into doze or deep doze like it used to but I dont know how to check or monitor that. that info doesn't show in battery stats.
I never heard of this doze/deep doze mode - where did you see this?
I ask because I typically get 10% loss overnight with what I thought was very good because the pixel often then calculates I have 2 days of remaining battery life with that stat.

You can google it as there are tons of articles about it but here is some insight into it from the developer side: https://bignerdranch.com/blog/diving-into-doze-mode-for-developers/
OK, so it says in order to go into deep-doze, the phone:
1) Must not be charging
2) The screen is off
3) The phone is not moving
So, during the night, are all three of these conditions met?
Also, the device will come out of deep-doze if an incoming push notification is received - could one of your apps be receiving push notifications during the night?
Also, "Any process using a foreground service is exempt from Doze Mode effects, which is key for long-running applications"...do you possibly have any apps that have a foreground service?
Have you tried to switch off Bluetooth, it has a huge impact on battery even if not in use.
I've used apps before. Can't remember but gsam might be one...
It's possible to identify apps that are holding wake locks. That's the first place to check for battery drain.

all the apps I can find to track wake locks seem to need ROOT. I'd rather not do that as then I lose OTA updates.
After some extreme disabling of user app, system apps, services, etc. I finally got back to 3% battery drop overnight. I'm not sure which one was the culprit yet but i'll start enabling things as I need them and keep monitoring.
I'm having heavy battery drain. I already charged to 100 and less to 30 minutes i lost 10%.
It began since last update on my case.
After you see a big drain, DON'T plug in and...
Go into "Settings"

Then click the top right three dots
Then select "Battery Usage"
It should show you which apps are to blame for the drain.

Gsam needs permissions but these can be set with USB debugging, no root needed.
So one thing I have learned is that it appears every time I reboot, gsam thinks my wifi is on even though I have it off. If i turn it on and then back off. Gsam now says wifi is off.
So i got through the night at 3% battery drain but now I am realizing that my phone will not go into deep sleep during the day. Any suggestions how to fix that?
According to the details in the link posted earlier, it will never go into deep sleep if the phone is moving.

Battery Guru is good for chasing drains (with ADBs), add BBS + adbs and you can find anything using them together!

Google play services mostly. There was a large amount from "Adaptive connectiviy" but when I disabled that those went away.
Hi. I noticed that SmartGesture drains battery heavily here and there, even if I turned off all gestures like "raise wrist to wake up" and "accept/dismiss call" .
Usually I get 40hr of battery life on my 40mm non classic. Yesterday evening it had 58% and it seemed to hit the 48hr lifetime record. I switched on bed mode and energy saver. Then I set my alarm and start sleeping. No snore detection but blood oxygen measurement activated.
10 hrs later I woke up and my watch was drained completely empty. No alarm, I woke up very late by myself. What a mess!
I noticed when I turn off all gestures, I have a good battery life but after a while the app SmartGesture starts eating battery. Then it is first with up to 20% battery consumption in power management. When I reboot the watch, it's okay again for a while until it starts eating battery again.
When I activate all gestures, especially wrist to wake, it occurs not so often but it does.
I hate Smartgesture, Is a no-go to oversleep because of its battery drain.
Any ideas what I can do? I'd love to clear data and cache from smartgesture but that's not possible.
