Ambient Mode not working on TCL TV with Chromecast - General Questions and Answers

I am a photographer and had happily been using Google Photos to cycle images to the TV using the Ambient mode of Chromecast. This was with a Gen 1 Chromecast plug-in in the HDMI port all of my TV. I recently bought a new TCL TV with Chromecast built in and figured I would no longer need the plug-in version. That doesn't seem to work and although ambient mode is there, Google photos will not appear on the TV. If I plug in the old Chromecast dongle into an HDMI port oh, that still works fine. The idea however was to be able to use the built-in Chromecast device with nothing additional. No joy so far.

Streaming Video Without HDMI

I have an older TV without an HDMI port. Is there a way to stream video from my phone to the TV?
I believe this should do the trick:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HDMI-3-RCA-RGB-A-V-Component-Conversion-Cable-Male-/170659070304
And then you need MHL adapter for the phone:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-MHL-Micro-USB-HDMI-Female-Cable-Adapter-HTC-Samsung-S2-/150867197550
EDIT:
Now that I think of it Iam not sure how well thats going to play out. Its very likely that the resolution the phone puts out is too high and the image will be strecthed out of the screen.

HMDI connected Android TV Box

Hi folks,
I´m not quit sure if it is an Android problem or a problem with my box.
When I switch off the TV when the box is connected via HMDI the box goes "off" (switching off sound for example) is there a way or setting to keep it on? So I can switch off TV and keep spotify for example on?
Yes!

Yes! I use my Chromecast in this way. What you need is an HDMI pass through device, like a stereo tuner. I have both a Chromecast and Roku dongle plugged into the HDMI ports on my tuner (it has a total of 4 hdmi ports) . A single HDMI cable then runs from the tuner to the TV. The sound comes out of my stereo speakers, not the tv, and I use the stereo's remote control to switch inputs (the TV itself is never changed from its HDMI1 input). This allows me to listen to the audio without having the TV turned on. Tuners with HDMI pass through can be expensive, but I got lucky and found one, virtually brand new with 4 HDMI inputs, at my local Good Will for $65. And if you're into cord cutting, check out my website at cablegobyebye.com

I found a solution which might work. You need to "block" pin 19 from HDMI which reports powersaving / energy modes. I just need to try it at home

Netflix will not cast:unlocked and rooted 44s OEM

I have three OPOs which will play Netflix just fine, and cast non-Netflix video from the phone to the TV, via Netgear P2TV dongle or strain to my Samsung TV. However, I can not find a solution to cast Netflix from the OPO to the TV! My G3 works just fine, either directly to the TV or via the NetGear. Both phones are on KK 4.4.4s
I've searched a bit for solutions about XDA and other locations, and see very little about this, and no answers. Does anyone have success casting Netflix, and if so is there something additional/different than standard casting that I need to do?
Thank you.

I can't use Cast to screen mirroring my phone to TV. There's no device found?

The TV works fine with another phone but not with my phone. Mine use Lineage 14.1 and Cast didn't see the TV. Although if I use Youtube app to cast, it works. But I don't want to just cast Youtube videos, I want to project my phone to my TV. Anyone can help me fix this? I've already tried some others miracast/cast screen/... but got no luck except Youtube.

Nexus player does stop stop video when TV is turned off

One major issue I have with the Nexus Player is it does not automatically stop the video when I turn off the TV. I use an HDhoemrun for live tv and when I turn the TV off the tuner continues to stream to the nexus. I don't have the same issue with the Nvidia shield. Is there no way to change this behavior?
This is a feature provided by the HDMI-CEC standard. Check if the TV has an option to disable HDMI-CEC (LG TVs have this option, is called SIMPLINK). Also you could try to use a HDMI cable which is not HDMI-CEC compliant, I think the older ones aren't.
