I'm facing a file selector issue across every app. lets say I take a screenshot and then try to send it with facebook messenger. I find that messenger's media selector is showing nothing.
I can access everything with file explorer app. but I can't from literally every other app. not even google photos. Even trying to add a custom ringtone from the settings app causes the whole settings app to crash.
This issue was noted on 3 different roms. including official los18.1.
Is the storage dying?

So I've been using my OPO for several months now and love it, but there's one aspect of it that I haven't been able to fix just yet. I'm not sure if this stems from moving to 4.4 from 4.2 or something rolled into the stock CM11 rom.
With my past Android phones, when I would go to attach a photo to a text message or send one via skype or another app, it would ask me for what app to use. I use quickpic as my default gallery app so I would select that as my default for that action and all was well with future attachments. With the OPO I don't get a prompt at all and instead it directs me to a "recent files" view where everything that I have recently saved or modified on the device is displayed.
Along the left side it lists all the file browsing apps and services on the device (stock gallery, G+ photos, file manager, dropbox, quickpic, etc) which I can then press and it will load that app for me to choose the file I want. I just want it to go directly into quickpic and skip all that other nonsense but I can't figure out how to make it do that.
I've reset the default apps on the device in hopes that this was some system app that was taking over, but it still does not bring up the "default app" prompt to let me choose what I want. I have attached a screenshot of what comes up.
Any ideas how to override this behavior and get back the use of my gallery app?
Everything has been fine with Google Photos for me until recently other folders containing photos from apps like VSCO Cam other apps has disappeared from the "Device Folders" section of the app. As I said, these were all displayed until the last few days. I have no idea what happened. I use Solid Explorer and I can see the photos are all still on my phone so it's not like they've been deleted. Anyone come across this issue or would know how I can fix it? I've tried clearing the data/cache of the Photos app and that didn't work. I also tried clearing the cache of Media Storage but that didn't correct the problem either. I'm not sure what to do.
Anyone else had a similar issue or know how to resolve it?
Solved.
Needed to show hidden files using Solid Explorer, deleted the file called ".nomedia" and alas, all the device folders are now being displayed again in Google Photos!
Im wondering where i can look in filesystem, to try to figure out how to fix documents fc.
Im running z3 on 5.1.1 lollipop. I havnt had any problems untill recently, when im in any app and i go into document chooser or whatever it would be called, for example in textra , i am texting and i want to add a picture, i press the photo button in app to add a pic, and the mini menu with a couple recent pics shows up with the document chooser on the right of a couple most recent photos. Normally that would open the files menu, where i can go to the place in filesystem where photo i want to send is at, and choose a pic. But now, when i pic that square so search filesystem for a photo, it crashes and i get a message on screen that says "unfortunately documents has stopped".
Can anyone assist me on how to re install documents to working condition, or a fix for my problem, or even a link to a thread with same issue. Ive been searching around , but have not seen anything that directly relates to documents force closing.
A few times a week, my phone will cache the Facebook Messenger photos, and whenever it does they appear in my photo storage apps. I seem to be the only one having this problem as I can't find a permanent fix. Here is what I have attempted so far:
1) Manually deleted all folders containing an image of a Facebook Messenger sticker.
2) Uninstalled all Facebook Messenger stickers. It lets me uninstall all stickers except for the "Pusheen" and "Meep" stickers.
3) Added ".nomedia" folders to the "storage\android\data\com.facebook.orca\files\stickers" and "storage\android\data\com.facebook.pages.app\files\stickers" file locations.
4) Cleared my Facebook Messenger cache and data.
Adding the ".nomedia" folders seems to temporarily work, but somehow they always end up being deleted and the images will make another appearance in my photo storage apps. It seems to happen randomly, as well, as sometimes the "Pusheen" and "Meep" stickers from the Messenger app will appear and other times a bunch of random stickers from the Pages app will appear. The annoyance is compounded by the fact that each sticker is stored in its own individual folder, so when they do reappear there is always at least 30+ new device folders in my photo storage app. So, is there any way to just completely stop the Facebook Messenger and Pages apps from caching these stickers I've literally never used?! Do I have to uninstall the stickers in my Facebook settings somewhere? I don't care what it is, I just want a solution. I have never had this problem until I purchased the OnePlus 6 almost 2 months ago..
Did you switch from iOS?
I get that too, but in the regular gallery app as well. Any cached images from any app shows up, included cached ad videos.

Well, if you run knockoff apps like that, you deserve whatever you get. Plus maybe you should get some help. I'm suspicious that you're tweaked out of your mind right now.
Still Happening
I forgot about this thread because it hadn't happened for a while, but today when I went into my Gallery app after taking a photo I noticed it happened again.
I have posted photos of what it looks like, and as you can see it is very annoying. The ".nomedia" folder trick didn't work this time, either. I understand Facebook sucks, but I have been using Android phones since the Note 3 and I've never had this problem before. So, it has to be something with OnePlus's settings... There really should be a way to turn this off. One thing I've noticed this time is that the date in the albums is much earlier than when the pictures actually appear in my Gallery app. I have no idea why that would be the case.
If no one can provide me an answer here, then maybe I'll take it to OnePlus's customer service and they can give me an answer that I can forward to everyone... I doubt it, though, as their customer service is usually pretty awful and I seem to know more about their phones than they do.
You're supposed to create a .nomedia file, not folder.
Ah hah!

Ahh, that makes sense. That's what I did this time, hopefully it'll be a permanent fix.
Hello, I hope I can explain this properly. I am having problems sharing files in apps that use the default Android file sharing app, which appears to be an app called "Files". If I try to share a hilarious meme that I've saved to my device in Google Chats, after pressing the share picture button a new window opens. If I press on a picture, this new file selection window immediately closes and the picture is not transferred to Google Chats. If try again and press and hold pictures, and then press SELECT in the top right, again no pictures are transferred to Google Chats.
At first I thought this might be a Google Chats issue, but I have run into the issue with any app that doesn't have it's own file sharing component built in. For example, I can share files with Signal and Messages just fine.
I have tried Googling this, searching Reddit. I cannot find anyone else even discussing this problem. All my search results turn up instructions on how to share things.
Below is video of issue in action. Video is kind of fast, please refer to my above description to help see what's happening (or not happening) in the video.
try wiping cache unless you've done it already

I should have mentioned that I tried wiping cache. I even deleted app updates, still same problem. Then downloaded a couple versions of the app from apkmirror, and still same problem.
did you make any tweaks like disabling apps via adb etc?
I've tried with outlook and it works fine using Files to add attachments
Change it from being default app maybe and try some other app instead
I have not disabled apps with adb.
