My nvidia shield portable had lost its ability to connect to wifi for some reason, I factory reset but still the problem persists. Is there any way to update this device and get it working?

What build are you on ? I'm still using my Shield Portable as a "daily driver " for certain things . Just got Amazon Luna running on it lol . Have you tried re-flashing the firmware or reset ?
Did you change your WiFi settings in your router? As i know, the shield portable uses 2.4Ghz. If your WiFi is set to 5Ghz for some reason, your shield would not connect to your network.

Shield Portable can connect to 5ghz on stock if the right channels are broadcasting from the router .

Hi,
I bought my TF while I was on holliday and I was able to connect to the internet using a 3G pen connected to a router.
When I arrived home I tried to connect the TF to my home network and it does not detect it! I already restarted it several times and can't find a way of TF detecting my wifi network. All my other wifi equipments (laptop, PDA, PS3, etc) detect and connect to my network, the TF is the only one that doesn't even detects my newtork (however it detects other wifi networks form my neighbours)!
I tried to connect the TF to the router with the 3G pen and it worked only my home network is not detected!
Any explanation for this??
Without being able to connect to my broadband network the TF is useless to me...
If I was in your situation I'd either return it our root & flash a rom. When I bought my nexus s at launch i faced the same issue but fixed it by rooting & flashing

If it can see the networks around you then the WiFi on the tablet is working. It is either all or nothing (learned from personal experience with my transformer after a bad RMA). Since my router is set not to broadcast its SSID i had to manually setup the network info on my transformer to get it to work.
any chance you live in europe and you're router is set to channel 12-14?

I do, and I had the same problem. My router was set to auto channel. Changed it to 10 and now it works

THX!
any idea why that is?
You'd need to set the tablets "wifi regulatory domain" to UK or another country that allows Channels 12 & 13
Not sure if stock ROMs let you do that, KatKiss does, then you can use all 13 channels

For all who are searching for the right "wifi regulatory domain" in KatKiss - "EMEA and Rest of World" works with Channel 12 & 13.
Ok so I updated to ICS yesterday and it was working great, then I decided to do a reset to factory reset and now it won't maintain the connection to my WI-fi.
my phone and laptop do maintain a connection to my WiFi so i know it's not my wireless router. My transformer does connect for a brief second and then it loses it right away and it keeps trying to obtain ip, then connects then disconnects and so on so forth.
Anyone know the problem?
Oh yeah and my tf101 is not rooted, 100% stock.
Thanks,
Elton
Similar Issue
I have having an issue connecting to a duel band (5ghz) Wireless N network. The other network is G+N (2.4ghz). I was on Prime 2.1.1 and I believe it was able to connect to the duel band N network without issue.
Mine is a dual Netgear G+N and I can't connect to either one, this is too weird. My brother has the same tablet and his also says "problem authenticating" same as mine.
Ok so I did a reset 3 times and I reset my router and now it works.
Simple fix: restart router
the wifi is broken.....
Hi,
I have a problem with the wifi on my Samsung Galaxy S2 after I changed some settings on my home router. The wifi works anywhere else, just not at home.
What I changed was the router ip and wireless channel. Since then I have cleared all the wireless and browser settings in the phone and reverted back to the old settings on the router. Still doesn't work.
I've also tried having static IP. It doesn't work as well. It's only the internet. It connects to the router fine and I haven't had any problems with other gadgets and computers connecting.
Your tried turning on airplane mode for a few then reboot?
Your router doesn't have a sync button does it?

One thing you can do is delete the connection to your router on your phone, and connect again with new password from router. Do you have any other device beside your phone connecting to this router? If no, you need to test it. If yes and not connecting check the connection security, like wpa or wpa2. If all fail, reset router. This mean you will need to reconfigure your router. Check manual for more on your router.

Yes. View available wireless connections. Click your router. Then click "forget".
Then view again, click your router, and type the passphrase.

Just tried this and it didn't work.
My router is a cheap basic router that came from my internet provider. No such thing on it.

I've already reset anything wifi related on my phone. It hasn't worked.
Do you have something else that you can connect to wifi to see if the problem is your router?

Not in my home no. But like I said in the OP, the wifi on my phone works fine in other houses and hotspots. It's most definitely some kind of communication problem between my router and phone only but I'm not familiar enough with routers to know the problem and I haven't stumbled on anyone else on google having the same problem.
Two laptops, one Win7 and one OsX, are connected. Unfortunately I'm new in the area I live in and my girlfriend doesn't have a smartphone so I haven't been able to test if it's just my phone or just android or iPhones in general.
I can't think of a logical reason why it's like this
Maybe router is configured with wifi 802.11n and the galaxy only runs on b/g ?
If you're using WPA/WPA2 security, check that the
router is set to use AES encryption.
If you think you did your best. Its better to buy a new router then. )
maybe you could try unplugging your router?

I didn't change any of that. It's got a WEP encryption only as well.
After updating to Jelly Bean, I cannot connect to my Wireless N router. However I can connect to my Wireless G router and I can connect via my Phone and FoxFi. I tried a paperclip reset on my infinity and a reset on the wireless N router.
Anyone else have this problem? Any idea how to resolve?

I ended up switching my wireless router from N only to N/G mixed mode and was able to connect... I verified I was still connecting via N and not G after making the change so I'm not sure yet what is going on yet. Everything worked fine until the JB update. I'll look at it more later when I have time.
Also, the router is a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH2 running the latest version of DD-WRT and it is set to WPA2 Personal Mixed and TKIP+AES, though I tired every combination and nothing worked (even disabling security completely) until I switched from N only to N/G Mixed mode.

Check the system date. Work for me.
Connecting to my work WIFI no longer works. We use EAP/PEAP with active directory integrated authentication. It tries to connect several times before giving up. Worked perfectly fine with ICS. I used to have the same problem with my old HP Touchpad (in WebOS).

Something definitely changed in JB that is causing issues for some with wireless network connectivity.
I experienced the same thing (worked fine with ICS). If your wireless is set for N only, try changing it to N and G mixed mode and see if that makes a difference. I did not have to change the authentication method, just N to N/G mixed mode to get it to work.
Though that resolved the issue for now, I sure would like to know what the real cause is (exactly what changed in JB?).
Hi all,
I received the device and have problems to connect to my (non-hidden) 5Ghz wifi. I remember that there was an issue for Pie to connect to hidden SSIDs so I enabled the broadcast, but still cannot connect. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks!
solved: reset router incl. all settings.
What is your wifi router vendor?

Thanks for looking this up. I finally ended up setting up my router from scratch after the bad support from TP-Link destroyed my login after the firmware update and the subsequent restore of the settings backup. After adding all stuff (incl. MAC-filtering), everything works now also with 5 GHz.
