Updated Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 upgrade guide for HTC One m8 Windows (October 2016)

How to upgrade to Windows 10 on your HTC One M8 for Windows running Windows Phone 8.1
Prerequisites:
a. A Microsoft account. You NEED one to do this. Preferably sync it with your phone BEFORE you do all this, it will make your life so much easier. Even if you are paranoid about Microsoft getting all your data, you STILL need an account to complete the steps here.
b. Several pieces of software. Please use the versions specified in this walkthrough. Other versions have not worked well. You can download them all in a RAR file from: https://mega.nz/#!2JNBTCiZ!tBFDPMFzUu3g7EqulH9BSlFFebv4IcZiPrRSvS_fx88
c. Patience. If you mess up a step, all the way up through the Windows 10 install, you can flash back to stock WP8.1! You can probably even downgrade afterwards.
d. A MicroSD card is required. I didn’t have one installed on the phone before I started, but it’s 100% necessary (I’ll detail why as we proceed).
e. A willingness to completely wipe your phone. This ought to go without saying, but I’ve had people ask me “oh you mean I have to delete EVERYTHING?” Yes. Your phone will be reset to factory at least once in this process.
Credits:
Thanks to Bladeni, on whose instructions this is based. And all the folks at XDA Developers and Betanews, Disqus and a few other places I’m probably forgetting. The guys who wrote WindowsPhoneCustomPFD and CustomWPSystem. And the whole community!
Walkthrough:
1. Backup all your data. Preferably to the cloud. But if you are a privacy nut, put it all on your computer. Or the SD card. Somewhere other than main phone RAM which is going to be completely wiped.
2. Charge your phone to 50%. I know other walkthroughs say 40, and the tools say 25, but the reality is that we don’t know how fast your battery will drain once the phone is in bootloader mode.
3. If for some reason you have Windows Insider or Preview for Developers installed, uninstall them now!
4. Install the Windows Device Recovery Tool on your PC and run it.
5. You may also at this point want to install HTC Sync Manager, just to get the HTC drivers.
6. Restart in bootloader. This is a point of some contention, but basically hold down the power button until the phone tells you to swipe to restart. As soon as the screen goes black, hold down both volume buttons. You should get this screen (those are barcodes under the black swatches):
a. If the phone shuts all the way down, just hit the power button for a long press, then immediately hit the volume buttons. It takes a couple tries if you’ve never done it.
7. Plug the cable into the phone and the computer. Wait for Windows to recognize the device. Check Device manager to make sure it shows up as HTC Phone and not an unknown device.
a. If it shows up as an unknown device, try installing HTC Sync Manager (see list at end).
b. If it STILL shows up as unknown, install HTC Drivers Standalone (see list).
c. If that doesn’t work, as a last resort, right click the unknown device, update driver, and browse to where you unzipped the Fujitsu driver.
8. Once the device is recognized, you may need to hit “My device was not detected” in the Recovery Tool.
a. If you do, browse to “Other OEM’s” and then to “HTC”.
9. Now hit next, don’t give a reason (“Continue without submission”), and wait. After a few minutes, your phone will be back to Windows 8.1 factory image.
10. You need to set up WP8.1 – sign in with your account. If it starts to restore your stuff, let it do so – you have to wait until the queue is clear before you can proceed, so take this time to install the other software you need:
11. Install the WP8.0 SDK Tools Lite Setup. It may give errors about setting up links. Ignore them.
12. Install the WP8.1 SDK Tools Lite Setup. It may give errors also but usually won’t.
13. Once the phone is stable, go to Storage Sense and make sure that apps are set to install TO THE PHONE. This is super important!
14. If for some reason you still have Windows Insider or Preview for Developers installed (you shouldn’t, after step 2), uninstall them now! I’ve seen this happen with Preview for Developers.
15. Under the Windows Phone SDK 8.1 on your PC (NOT THE 8.0!) run “Windows Phone Developer Registration”.
a. Unlock the phone, it HAS to be on the start screen for this to work.
b. Log in with your Windows account (same as on the phone! Very important!) and hit “register”. You can tell it worked because when you run it again, it will say “unregister” (don’t unregister, but you can check!)
16. Under the Windows Phone SDK 8.1 on your PC, run “App Deployment” and select the CustomWPSystem_0500.xap file you previously downloaded. Deploy it.
17. Now open up your phone in explorer, and go to the downloads folder. Drag the CustomPFD_0003.xap into this folder. DO NOT DEPLOY THIS XAP.
18. If you want HTC Sense TV, download it from the store now, since after this step it will be impossible to install.
You are now ready to start modding the phone. Nothing you’ve done until this point has been destructive or done anything other than a reset. Now is the point where you probably void your warranty. You’ve been warned! We are about to hack a Microsoft app to make it into a registry editor.
19. THIS IS CRITICAL. Navigate to storage sense and set apps to install to the SD card. If you don’t do this, NOTHING ELSE WILL WORK FROM HERE ON OUT.
20. This website has a helpful set of screenshots for the next section: http://windowsphonecustompfd.blogspot.com/2015/01/you-need-two-filesfirst-custompfd0003.html?m=1
21. Download the “Preview for Developers” app from the store. Wait for it to finish installing.
22. Run the CustomWPSystem app on your phone.
23. Tap the red button labeled “SD Card Permissions”, then tap SD Card, then hit the check mark. The button should turn green.
24. Make sure “Preview for Developers” is selected (it is the default).
25. Now select the CustomPFD_0003.xap file using the select button.
26. Hit “apply XAP”. IF THE APP CRASHES AT THIS POINT, you have done something wrong. Most likely you didn’t set apps to download to the phone and SD card at the right places. The CustomWPSystem app MUST be installed on the phone and the Preview for Developers app MUST be installed to the SD card. You MUST be logged in with the correct Windows account. Go back and check everything again. If you have to, drop back to the system restore again using the Recovery Tool.
27. Go to the apps pane, and you should see that Preview for Developers now has a weird green icon with a key on it instead of the purple icon it came with. If it doesn’t, see step 25.
OK, for real. Now you’re going to void the warranty, since you’re about to edit the registry. Basically we are about to trick the phone into thinking that it’s a Nokia Lumia 735, which is a phone with roughly similar specs to this one, at least as far as the Windows 10 update process is concerned.
28. Run the Preview for Developers. This is now a modifier registry editor. You’ll see “cannot write here”. That’s normal. Navigate to:
a. HKLM (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)
b. SYSTEM
c. Platform
d. DeviceTargetingInfo
29. Now you’ll see you can write. So let’s find the keys we need. There are three. In each case, pick the key, then you’ll do this:
a. Hit the plus at the bottom.
b. Put the name of the key in the top field.
c. Pick “String” instead of “Key”.
d. Put the required data in the bottom field.
e. Hit “write”.
30. If your screen doesn’t move the keyboard out of the way, just hit back (ONLY ONCE) to get the other fields to show.
31. The three keys, with their data, are as follows. Remember they should all be set to type “string”:
a. PhoneManufacturer (yes, caps are important and leave off the quotes) is currently “HTC”, change it to “NOKIA”.
b. PhoneManufacturerModelName is currenly “HTC6995LVW”, change it to “RM-1089_1087”.
c. PhoneModelName is currenly “HTC6995LVW”, change it to “Lumia 735”.
32. Double check them by clicking back into them one at a time. Make sure the data is correct.
33. Download the “Windows Insider App” from the app store, and run it.
34. Register, and click “get insider builds”. When presented with a choice, choose the top selection. This is called the “Fast Ring”. It gets you the latest preview build, which is needed for bug fixes for the HTC One M8. Prior builds – stable and prod – don’t have the keyboard or SIM card working properly.
35. Reboot.
36. After reboot, check for updates the normal way. You should see an update starting. This is Windows 10. Let it install. THIS TAKES A LONG TIME.
37. Once you’ve rebooted into Windows 10, there will be a lot of other updates. Be patient and eventually it will be time to proceed.
38. Go to your app pane – notice that the Insider app as well as the Preview app are all the way at the top under “recently added”. The Preview app has no text, just an icon. This is normal.
39. Run the Preview app, and reverse the steps above to restore the original values (HTC, HTC6995LVW, HTC6995LVW) to the keys in steps 29-31.
a. If your Preview app is missing, you can try the Interop tools (included here) but they crash on a lot of builds for a lot of people when you try to go into the “Platform” subkey of the registry.
b. To install Interop tools, just load the file onto your phone and go run it from file explorer.
c. To run Interop tools (it isn’t an app, it’s a control panel applet!), go to settings->extras->interop tools.
40. Run the Insider app again, and this time put it onto release ring (the bottom option). This is optional – you can choose to continue to get all the latest options, but the latest ones tend to be buggier. I will update these instructions when the release build is good enough for the HTC One m8 to use in step 34. But for now, you may want to do this step.
Again, the download location is:

I try to do it again and stuck here.!!!!!!!!! Microsoft seems to have seen and prevent.!
Yes I did flash to OEM. I have opened a case with Microsoft as well to see why it says I have to many unlocks when my Dev account shows no unlocks.
That's interesting. Maybe they wised up to this method? I'll try an play around with it again this upcoming weekend. As a quick check, can you try using the 8.0 version of the app loader?
I appreciate that. I also submitted a support ticket with Microsoft and they refused to help, instead directing me to the forums, which advised me to ... submit a support ticket. I reset my phone to OEM and same error message. But I have confidence you'll be able to outsmart them. Thanks.

I also tried 8.0 application deployer. No luck. Same error message. Not sure this is related, but I have a developer account and my phone, even when registered as unlocked using SDK tool, will not appear in the Dev Center's Dashboard as an unlocked device. And when I try to open Preview for Developers on my phone, I log in with the same username and password as my developer account but it won't recognize that and sends me to a page to buy a developer account.

Uh-oh. It sounds like they have killed the "one phone for non-developers" workaround that they had previously put in place. I don't have a test phone - the one I upgraded has become my daily driver - but I'll see what I can figure out.
I did I! I made it through. Microsoft fixed my developer account and I went all the way through. Do I need to relock the phone or no? Also should I uninstall the XAP 003 app or the reg editor?

Microsoft limitations of the app installation for free account dev
I used another free account and everything is perfect, but Windows Insider problem, I didn't find the building in there...
Success
Worked perfectly once Microsoft fixed app deployment problem. Appreciate all your hard work setting this up!
What build of Windows 10 should I have? I currently have 10586.107. Is there a way to get a more current build?
had a couple of these phones laying around after we switched to Lumia 735s this worked just fine, i will say one thing the phone got very hot! i nearly dropped the phone when i picked it up, after all the updates it cooled down and is running like a dream so far
To update to a higher build

First off - thank you for these instructions, they are excellent!!! I BELIEVE I have followed everything to the 'T'...unfortunately, I am stuck at step "80", I install Windows Insider with no problem, then I open it, select "Get preview builds" (my only option) and get the message "Server Error - A connection error prevented us from downloading programs for you. Please check the date/time of your device and its network connection and try again.". I have tried:
Turning it off and back on.
'Soft' reset
Setting time manually
Setting to Pacific time zone (what it defaulted to when I started it up)
Uninstalling/reinstalling Windows Insider (with reboots in-between)
Checking all registry edits, re-doing them
Researching this error online has not yielded any solutions outside the ones I have already tried.
Can anyone help/suggest something please? Thanks!
I am having the same problem with windows insider, server error, thanks for any help
I resolved my issue - by leveraging another forum in addition to all the great information on this one, here's the link: http://forums.windowscentral.com/htc-one-m8-windows/426772-5.htm and below are the exact instructions. it's a little bit of a hassle to pull the cabs but IT WORKS. I started right from where I couldn't move forward (step 80), though I uninstalled Windows Insider and put the registry settings back to 'normal' until this was complete. Interestingly, after completing and REINSTALLING Windows Insider, same error BUT Windows Update from control panel seems to work. It has restarted/rebooted several times but is now on the most recent update (November 9th) that I know of. No glitches (YET) to report, except for battery life seems shorter. Hope this helps someone!
Excerpt (starts from step 2 because step 1 is the Windows device recovery tool resetting device to 8.1 - if you've followed these instructions up to this point you don't need to do that)

2. Go to this site: 14219-10586 htc w8 tmous (0P6B140) - Pastebin.com and grab all of the .cab file urls. These urls are from this thread: [W10M BUILDS] Update links collection (cab-f… | Windows 10 Development and Hacking)
3. This is the part that sucks... Paste each url into a browser to download the file (you should end up with 47 files) - on a side note, if anyone doesn't want to do this, I could paste a link to a zipped folder with all of the files
4. Place all the files into a folder named "cabs" in your C: drive (ex: C:\cabs)
5. Download and install the Windows Driver Kit from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=526733
6. Open command prompt (windows + R then "cmd") and enter this command (places you in the proper folder to execute the next command): cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Tools\bin\i386
7. While your phone is connected to the PC, run the command: iutool.exe -V -p "C:\cabs" - it will take a while to execute as it transfers, then installs all 47 files. I think it took about 75-90 minutes for me.
Once that finishes, you'll be on build 10586.11
Once you've completed those steps, you can follow the directions posted by benj1091 at the beginning of the thread to OP the registry (via Interop Tools) to match a Lumia 735. If you want, you can then (or before) install Windows Insider to select your insider ring.

[How To] Write a PRL to V20

WARNING I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR DEVICE
MESSING WITH NV ITEMS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO YOUR HANDSET
USING THIS TOOL/INFO TO BREAK THE LAW IS NOT CONDONED
USING THIS TO VIOLATE YOUR CARRIERS TERMS IS NOT CONDONED
I WILL NOT HELP WITH WRITING ANYTHING TO YOUR DEVICE OTHER THEN A PRL
I DO NOT PROVIDE ANY LINKS TO THE PRL OR TOOLS USED. USE GOOGLE SEARCH BOLD ITEMS + XDA BELOW!
1. LG Drivers installed, Diag drivers specifically
2. MSL for your phone
3. QPST installed ( 2.7 or newer preferred )
4. SPRINT/VZW PRL file of your choice ( Sprint is on 54xxx) Universal sprint VZW is 00001 00002 etc, be careful as those can piss off your carrier!
Step 1 - Install your LG drivers and acquire your MSL from sprint.
Step 2 - Google and install QPST.
Step 3 - Find what PRL you want to use and put it in a folder on your computer.
Step 4 - Turn off USB debugging on your phone...go to settings > applications > development > uncheck USB debugging
Step 5 - Open the dialer on your phone and enter ##3424# Turn Diag ON
Step 6 - Connect your phone to the computer and select Charging only if prompted.
Step 7 - Open QPST Configuration wherever you installed it.
Step 8 - Click on "Add new port"
Step 9 - UN-Check "Select Serial and USB/Diagnostic Ports Only"
Step 10 - Select your phone on the list and hit OK.
Step 11 - Select your phone on the list.
Step 12 - Click on the "Start Clients" tab at the top and select "Service Programming"
Step 13 - Select your phone on the list and hit OK
Step 14 - Click on "Read from Phone' in the bottom left
Step 15 - Enter your MSL when prompted and hit OK
Step 16 - Click on the "Roam" tab then click "Browse" and navigate to your PRL file. After selecting your PRL click "Write to Phone".
Step 17 - Your phone will reboot at this point and you will see a couple popups on your computer that you can just hit OK to close. Let your phone reboot and don't close QPST until it is finished writing to your phone.
Step 18 - The PRL should be written to your phone now. You can verify it by going to settings > General > About Phone > Status
Once back on sprint prl, you should be able to UPDATE prl and get it to update to the one for your act/area!
Pleas feel free to post results or if you had to do something different!
This is also another option, but i haven't found a way to get it to locate a prl and write it.
maybe some oter people can figure out how to get this to work from the handset?
Ive tried running in production mode, in dev mode, made changes from user to debug and dev in the build.prop
but its still a blank screen when you try it.
using quick setting app you can search ( SPRO ) and click the 1st entry. This isn't for new users so stay outta this stuff lol!
the full entry is com.lge.lgdmsclient.ui.test.SPROmadmHiddenMenuForSprint
in a nutshell it would be exploiting a prl write test to get it to actually write a dif. prl
Verified that Cmda Workshop Trail will write the prl also, it wasn't mentioned in op due to it is NOT FREE, and will require a purchase after 30 days.
You sir are a boss
verizon users are stuck as usual

Unbrick Honor 9 STF-L09 (NOT FREE, HCU and DC-Phoenix required)

Introduction
THIS METHOD IS NOT FREE. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO THIS FOR FREE, EXCEPT MAYBE WITH THIS : https://forum.dc-unlocker.com/forum/modems-and-phones/huawei/162196-free-hcu-license-offer
Oh my god. I just come out of 3 days of trying to get this to work, non-stop. I feel the need to write this guide so people in the exact same configuration as me won't have to go through what I did.
Yes there are many tutorials about unbricking your Honor 9, but few are very detailed, and I couldn't make them to work for my european STF-L09. Plus, very few of them have a solution for updating to the very latest version (9.1.0 as the time of writing). So here we go.
The device I did this with, and the situation I was in.
There are so many variants of the Honor 9, and I've tried tutorials that weren't the same model as me, they just wouldn't work.
Honor 9 STF-L09, Europe version, Kirin960.
Previous installed ROM before brick was Oreo (the Pie update I tried to make bricked the phone), but I think you can do that on any previous version.
After the brick, I had a completely dead Honor 9 : no reaction at all, whether I plugged it in or tried any buttons combination.
What you need
- The correct Drivers
- A HCU Client Timed License, which is 19 EUR for 72h, and is going to give you access to the main software we need, DC-Phoenix.
- The correct .dgtks Repair File
- The correct ROM file to flash
- HiSuite
- Tools to open the back of your phone
- A metal object to connect the testpoints (anything will do : tweezers, copper cable, paperclip, sim-tool...)
- Read these two tutorials from www.dc-unlocker.com :
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/dc-phoenix-flash-repair-tutorial
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/flash-bricked-huawei-phones-in-huawei-1-mode
Step 1 - Connect the testpoints
Then open the back of your phone to reveal the testpoints that you can see on the image below (thanks to the user 4r44444 for the picture).
Then, open the Device Manager on Windows, and reveal the COM and LPT Ports (so you can see if you failed at connecting the testpoints or not).
You don't need to connect the two testpoints shown in the picture : you only need to connect the bottom one with anything else that's metal inside the phone.
It will take you some trial and error but eventually, your Device Manager should refresh and show you an unknown device called "SER".
Step 2 - Install the drivers
First, install the latest version of HiSuite to get the basic drivers. Make sure to close it completely (taskbar) and disable the fact that it opens itself when you plug your phone, or it might screw things up.
Then, install the two drivers that are on both dc-unlocker.com tutorials I've linked above.
https://files.dc-unlocker.com/share.html?v=share/984CE114852148B5B9A9CDD918BEC235
https://files.dc-unlocker.com/share.html?v=share/18B15B9D02C945A79B1967234CECB423
The first one "Huawei_Android_phone_drivers.rar" was not useful for me, but the second one, "Huawei drivers testpoint.rar", is to make your COM port recognizable instead of this unknown "SER" in device manager.
In Device Manager, right click on "SER", "Update driver", and locate the extracted folder on your computer.
This is all you need I think, but I installed so many random drivers (which I would not recommend) that I'm not even sure anymore.
Step 3 - Repair the phone with DC-Phoenix
Following "Method 3" from this link, but with some differences : https://www.dc-unlocker.com/dc-phoenix-flash-repair-tutorial
As I said, this method is not free. You can buy credits to make DC-Phoenix work for 72 hours (you need 15 of them for that I think), but since we need HCU, you're better off buying a timed license which gives access to DC-Phoenix.
Open DC-Phoenix, and click on the "Download files" button on top. There, search for the file "STF-Full-Repair-NV-included-Board-A051-7.0.0_r1.dgtks" and download it, it's the Repair File.
https://get-file.org/search#q|STF-Full-Repair-NV-included-Board-A051-7.0.0_r1|1
With your phone connected via testpoints (it has to appear in the Device Manager in the COM Ports, and I recommend changing the COM Port to 1 (right click, Port settings, advanced,...)), go to the "Update OEMINFO" tab, and check "Use BOOTLOADER". There, choose "Kirin960_T2_A7.0_V4" (maybe it's a different one for you, but for me only this one worked).
Then check "Update OEMINFO and unlock Huawei ID", and choose "STF-L09". Click Update, and this should run without errors. If it doesn't recognize your device, that means that it's not turned off and connected via testpoints.
Once that is done, your device may show a sign of life by booting into fastboot mode (or sometimes not). Anyway, you can go directly to the "Update Firmware" tab, and in the "Update file" field, choose the file "STF-Full-Repair-NV-included-Board-A051-7.0.0_r1", check "Rescue Revovery" and "Old slow algo", and click "Update".
After completion, your phone should be able to boot (after a very long press) into a chinese test ROM.
Step 4 - Repair the phone infos with DCU
Follow this tutorial : http://hcu-client.com/huawei-phone-repair-as-empty-board/
Don't forget to change your phone to Manufactured mode (as explained) so you can read your phone info.
In the Step 4, they let you choose between Repair UMTS or CDMA tab, I chose CDMA because I think the phone has a MEID.
Then, when they tell you that you just have to click on "Repair as empty board" to make everything fill in automatically, for me this was complete bs : only my IMEIs were added.
So what you have to do is fill your original SN, WiFi and BT MAC adresses, and so on. But since your phone is bricked and you probably dumped the box that states the SN, you're outta luck like me. It seems like it's illegal to change a MAC or SN number, so I can't recommend it, but I personally just chose random numbers (that have the same number of digits).
For model I entered "STF-L09", for vendor "hw", and for country "eu". Don't check "Erase restricted ver.", since it's only for Qualcomm CPUs. Click on Repair.
Once this is done, your phone should be resetting, and able to boot in the same ROM as before, except in english.
Step 5 - Upgrade to the latest Android 9.1.0
Normally you'd have to do this step with DC-Phoenix : just flash one of their Full Stock Roms they have on their file database (click Download Files on DC-Phoenix, and search for "STF-L09").
You can try that (don't forget that you have to be in fastboot mode (Vol down + plug USB) to install), but it really didn't work for me, and even if it did, I don't know how you'd update after it, because your phone probably won't receive OTAs.
So the solution I found was this one : https://www.reddit.com/r/Huawei/comments/az4bl7/finally_managed_to_update_my_mate10_pro_to_pie/
First, uninstall your latest version of HiSuite to be able to follow this tutorial and install the old version.
Then, the file I chose in Firmware Finder was this one :
STF-L09 9.0.1.175(C432E2R1P5)
STF-L09C432E2R1P5B175 (9.0.1.175)
STF-L09C432E2R1P5T8B175 (9.0.1.175)
I chose the "full" version, which gave me this link :
http://update.dbankcdn.com/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G3757/g1699/v260353/f1/full/update.zip
After following this tutorial, your phone should boot normally. You can then installs OTAs to update to 9.1.0. I'd recommend resetting the phone after this last step, to have a clean install.
If it doesn't work for you, you can also try this method : https://www.getdroidtips.com/full-guide-install-stock-firmware-huawei-smartphone/
I'll try to answer as many questions as fast as possible (since the Timed License is quite stressful), so feel free to ask !
Does the HCU Client unblock the network after doing the full repair?
Hello , Is this solution still works for honor 9 ?
I can't find stock rom on official website also.

[ATTENTION]: Before proceeding, save all your data on your computer and REMOVE ANY KIND OF UNLOCKING (sequence, pin, fingerprint etc ..); remove the sim and the microSD; get a microSD, at least 3/4 giga, where you can upload the files necessary for the procedure.
[NECESSARY CONDITIONS]: Starting from emui 8; have the cell phone charged to 100%; bootloader unlocked and the only procedure I know and working is the one I propose in the guide, the code is obtained by paying 4 €/$, THERE ARE NO FREE ALTERNATIVES.
[PREREQUISITES]: Download -> HiSuite , Dc-Unlocker
At this point we create a folder on the desktop and we will call it ANDROID1O to have a reference point and we will extract the folder contained in the dc-unlocker archive. Once the folder has been extracted, install adb and fastboot in order. At this point we can also install HiSuite.
[PROCEDURE]
[DOWNGRADE] In
order for dc-unlocker to read the bootloader code it is necessary to go back to an older version of android, so let's proceed as follows:
(1) We connect the mobile phone to the computer and start HiSuite, in some cases it will start automatically, and we follow the procedure that will be shown to us to enable debugging. If you have followed everything correctly HiSuite will read your device without problems.
(2) Remaining on HiSuite, click on the UPDATE SYSTEM item, a window will appear, at this point we can press on PREVIOUS VERSION (now I don't remember the precise wording) and we can start the downgrade. It will take a while.
(3) At the end of the downgrade we can start the mobile phone by skipping and ignoring the various configurations by putting the language in Italian as a matter of practicality, let's move on to the next step
[GET BOOTLOADER CODE]
(1) We go to the system settings ---> information ----> we do many taps until the message "now you are a developer" appears ----> we go back ----> developer options and activate usb debugging.
(2) Let's go to HiSuite and in the settings located at the top right we remove the check mark under "Start when it connects to the device" and close it.
(3) We buy the credits to read the bootloader code from https://www.dc-unlocker.com/buy in this way:
- We select the payment method
- We leave "new user account"
- We enter a username that we like it
- We enter an e-mail address to which we can easily access, here we will be sent the credentials to be able to access dc-ulocker
- We enter 4 in the credits box and then type on confirm
- If everything went well, the screen will appear with the credentials and you will receive a copy on the email
(We now have the necessary credits to be able to read the unlock code)
(4) Let's go back to the folder created on the desktop and start dc-unlocker and clicking on the SERVER item we enter the credentials obtained on the site
(5) At this point in the drop-down at the top left we look for the item HUAWEI PHONES
(6) A guide will appear that in any case I will report here:
- In the call keypad type the following combination * # * # 2846579 # * # *
- Press on MANUFACTURE MODE
(7) We can connect the mobile phone and press on the magnifying glass we see on dc-unlocker and if we have done everything correctly the program it will detect our mobile phone
(8) When the phone has been recognized we go to the UNLOCKING section and press on READ BOOTLOADER CODE, if we have done everything correctly we will get a code that we will enter somewhere so as not to lose it, we will need it later
(I leave you the video dc-unlocker official guide on how to unlock bootloader if you have any doubts ---> Help
(9) We disconnect the mobile phone from the computer
(10) After writing down the bootloader code we can close dc-unlocker, connect the mobile phone to a wifi network and search for system updates to return to the latest version of android and therefore to emui8,
if no updates appear, we try to force them by going to settings, wifi, press and hold on the wifi to which we are connected, modify, check advanced options, press on proxy, manual,
in proxy hostname we write localhost and in the port we write 8080 , we press on connect and if we return to the updates item it should find the most recent version. At this point we can update the mobile phone to the most recent version.
[BOOTLOADER UNLOCK]
(1) After returning to the most recent version of android we turn on the mobile phone
(2) We go to the system settings ---> information ----> do many taps until the message "you are now a developer "----> go back ----> developer options and activate the usb debug and the active voice unlock manufacturer
(3) We connect the mobile phone to the computer, press on transfer files, go back to the developer settings and activate the debug , at this point the mobile will ask us to give permissions to our computer and we confirm
(4) Let's go back to the desktop and at the top right click on file, open windows powershell, open windows poweshell as administrator and click on yes
(5) We type the command "adb devices" (write it without quotes), we wait for the end of the 'execution of the command and type again the command "adb devices" (without quotes)
and so we will see a number that corresponds to our mobile phone
(6) We give the command "adb reboot bootloader" (without quotes) and we send
(7) The mobile phone will start in a white screen with an android, the important thing is that two written in red appear with the words PHONE Unlocked and FRP Unlock
(8) From the Widows poweshell screen opened previously we give the command "fastboot oem unlock CODICEBOOTLOADER" (without quotation marks) (CODICEBOOTLOADER refers to the code obtained with Dc-Unlocker) and press on
enter (9) On the cellualre a warning will appear, press once the volume up key and then the power key to confirm the unlocking of the bootloader
(10) When the procedure is finished, it will take very little time, we give the command "fastboot reboot" (without quotes) and when the mobile phone screen it will go black we unplug it
(11) The cellualre will restart a couple of times with a white and other yellow writing, let it go, it will be returned to the factory settings and we will just have to skip all the configuration procedures but set the language in Italian
Finally the bootloader is unlocked!

Knowing this sooner I would do it with this tool. Anyway good to knoe but I don't think I would stay with Huawei brand due to their anti-community mods policy.

Yes, absolutelly. Why you prevent me to mod my phone if the phone is mine?
Here is a free alternative to DC-UNLOCKER
I've unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP on my wife's phone (emui 8 up to date dec 2020)
Here is the program : Potato NV
Follow these instructions : PotatoNV - wiki
To find where the testpoint is located search for pralx1 STF testpoint on your favourite internet search engine.
PS : By the way, the understanding of how it works goes way beyond my technical skills...

It's almost impossible to find it randomly. There are too many combinations...
If you read the issue section of this git, you'll see it by yourself.

I tried but It didn't work. Unfortunately I had an aplhanumeric code despite that my device was european, and this made impossible the task to find the code ( it would take millions of years to do a minimum percentage of combinations ).
I found it using PotatoNV, it adds the difficult part to disassemble the phone but it is very efficient.

It is not supposed to happen this way. You have to see something like "fastboot error: wrong password", so you're probably missing some permissions.
Anyway unless you have a numeric code there is virtually zero chance to find it in that way.
In my case I ran the script and in ~4 hours it tried all the numeric codes supposed to fit with my imei, but with no success. Later I discovered that my code was alphanumeric.
Hi everyone, I've just obtained te bootloader code, but now I'm stuck on EMUI 5.0.3, there are no updates available.
I tried forcing it but nothing changes..
On my P8 Lite 2017, I've tried the PotatoNV method which is, in fact, very easy (the most difficult part was to open the back cover, but with an opening tool it's easier) and no need to downgrade. For me the SkyEmie method was just a waste of time.

Worked for me (PRA-LX1) !!
So easy, except from potatoNV (didn't try back panel is broken, as a result I cannot open my phone) all other free solutions have not worked for me.

[GUIDE] Restore IMEI number after an NVRAM clear

This thread will go over restoring the IMEI number if you cleared the NVRAM (or fully formatted your phone). The official tool to use is the SN Writer tool from Mediatek but as the P60 processor is not compatible with that, I had to search for alternative ways.
First the legal blerb:
IT IS ILLEGAL TO FLASH A DIFFERENT IMEI NUMBER THAN THE ONE IT CAME WITH (AS FOUND ON THE SIM TRAY OR BOX).
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE OR LEGAL AFFAIRS CAUSED BY USING THIS GUIDE. IF YOU DO BLAME IT ON ME THEN I WILL LAUGH AT YOU!
Now the guide.
You will need:
- The phone
- A USB cable
- A Windows computer (I used Windows XP, I will get to that later.)
- The drivers linked below (no other drivers seem to work properly or at all.)
- MauiMETA (linked below.)
Part 1: driver installation
These are essential to get the phone to be recognized
- Remove the phone if it's plugged in.
- If using Windows Vista or newer, disable driver signature enforcing (look up online if you don't know how to). For Windows XP there is no such limitation, you can just click a "continue anyway" button.
- Download and extract the drivers (linked below).
- Run "Install Drivers.bat" and follow instructions.
- Reboot the computer to be sure.
Part 2: installing MauiMETA
You will need this tool to start the phone to META mode and write the IMEI numbers.
- Download the setup program.
- Install the software by following on-screen instructions.
Part 3: getting the phone to go into meta mode
- Turn off the phone completely.
- REMOVE THE SIM CARD JUST IN CASE!
- Open the MauiMETA program on your computer.
- Check if the device select is set to "Smartphone" and if the drop-down in the top left is set to "IMEI Download"
- Click "reconnect" and plug in the phone.
- Wait until the phone displays "=> Meta mode" and the application either says "connected" or displays an error box.
Don't be scared of the error box. Just close it. Another may pop up, close that too. If the MauiMETA program displays a few boxes that say something with 6771, it's been detected and the IMEI Download tool is about to open.
Part 4: downloading an IMEI number to the phone
I would again like to warn you that flashing the non-original IMEI is illegal!
If the tool asks if it should find the database itself, click yes. There is no database you can load yourself, so the built-in one will work fine.
- Find your IMEI number(s). They should start with "35".
- Put in the IMEI number to the tool. The middle box is where you start typing. The very last number will need to go in the small box to the right. If you have a dual SIM model, there will be a submenu called "SIM_2" which you can find at the top of the tool.
- Click the "Download to phone" button and it should flash the IMEI numbers.
- When everything is done, hold the power button of the phone for about 10 seconds until it boots into the OS.
If everything went right, you should have a working phone now. I still need to figure out how to restore WiFi and BlueTooth MAC addresses, but the random ones the OS give you should do fine. Also ignore the NVRAM Error 0x10 wifi network, it indicates both are gone. Also some UI bits and pieces might be wrong on the latest Android because for example the notch values were loaded into device-specific partitions.
My device is oneplus nord 2 . When i am using the maui meta software , my phone is always connected on COM6 port and in the maui meta software i can only see COM1 , USB COM and DIAG COM . When i connect the phone the COM6 is displayed and after that when i click on reconnect the maui meta software says please connect cable to target and power on when the phone is already in meta mode. Can you please help me with that ?
