Google Assistant on watch 4 (wear OS)

Samsung browser has just been relased. Works great
Hmm, it did load. And it does work... more so than the hacked Chrome app I loaded, for sure. Hard-coded bookmarks?? That is a bit strange- how it is a bookmark if you can't change or add one? No way to directly go to a URL. No way to have it remember preferred search engine (always goes back to google). Feels very much "beta" right now. Hopefully it will improve.
Just discovered this browser.. I think adaptation was just made for GW4 or something... It's excellent though.

Lol I've scoured the Play Store and Web for more hours than I care to know... There isn't a list of compatible browsers available for GW4 right now...
-The split Chrome Galaxy Watch 4 bundle linked above.
-Samsung Internet Browser
-Odd Browser
THAT IS IT in terms of browsers that are even remotely useable for continuous web surfing. Take your pick.

Hi,
I am looking for a simple map viewer for Gear 2.
There are a few apps for maps but they all focus on navigation. I am not interested in navigation. I just would like to have a snapshot of my location on Google Map. (Also maybe moving around the map by gestures.)
Is it too difficult to write such app ?
There are tons of nonsense apps which are really far more complex than this but nobody has ever wrote such simple one.
thx.

It could be more difficult then you think.
On android you put a mapview object in your app and ask it to load a map for a location, that is basically it.
There is also a web api for google maps to use in a browser (never done that myself);
That is what is need for the gear, but the gear browser (the apps are basically browser windows with html5/css/javascript),
can not get the maps data by itself, it has to get it via the phone app.....

try the gear navigator that is available from the samsung store since yesterday. Yes if focuses on navigation but will also show a snapshot of the map on the gear2.

I have already tried it today.
It's too far complex , and the result is:
- battery consuming on the phone, because the app has to be on foreground and it uses GPS all the time.
- battery consuming on the Gear itself. (nonstop connection to the phone)
- necessity to have a running navigation. Why do I need it when I just want to see a snapshot of my location ?
- necessity to run the app on phone (can't run anything to view on phone screen)
Instead of all that necessity and complexity, I am just looking for a snapshot of my current location. Maybe updated on touch of a screen, or update every few minutes...
This way it wouldn't consume battery of the Watch and the Phone.

in fact, a very simplistic approach would be;
- get a screenshot of Google Maps on phone every X seconds
- update it to the browser window on Gear 2.

But for the screenshot, the phone need to be on and then you could better use the phone anyway.
you want to be able to do it with the phone in your pocket, screen locked.
but keep thinking, maybe we discover a way to do it......
Hi,
Apart from my screenshot idea, I believe this is much more simple than creating a navigation app. It will just update the current location view periodically.
No one is interested in this ?
thx.
Finally. Someone made it. Thanks to Aleksandr Martiushev. App name is Gear Guide.

It shows for me on a Sprint Note 3. Yet another case of the Samsung/Galaxy Gear store not showing availability for all phones.

Never mind, it was a my error, it's also available for Galaxy S3. The app works fine, waiting for an implementation of a blue line for the indications, like on google maps!
This one actually works!

Works Great Thank You!
What are the origins of this? Would like to understand where it came from before installing an unknown source application that has access to nearly everything on my phone.
EDIT: The play store version is 3.2.38.104-0_100601_955220 claiming to be version "4". The APK above reports itself as 4.0.10-50. Is there a good way to tell if this is actually an official Samsung signed app?
Edit: Apparently, Samsung has managed to get their Play Store entry for the browser to work properly for Verizon S7x users. No need to be downloading unsigned binaries from elsewhere.

Pulling apart the APK of the larger version has some stuff in it that may be odd. There's a quick_access_server_data.xml file that points to samqaicongen.com. No clue what that is, but it's odd the Samsung Play Store version is missing a few things like that.

I had the apk linked to from this thread installed until this morning. I got a couple of messages from both it and the Chrome browser when trying to visit certain secured sites that I use (the well-known mail order prescription drug site expressscripts.com was one of them).
When trying to load these sites, I received a warning dialog that the certificate was invalid and the connection to the site could not be guaranteed to be safe.
After uninstalling the Samsung browser I loaded from the link on this thread, I no longer get the warning that the site's certificate was invalid.
I don't know what to think about this, but I feel better not trusting the linked apk.
Please think twice before using this apk that comes from who knows where.

Well, I don't understand the mysteries of the Google Play Store, that's for sure. Since my Verizon S7e could not download this app as early as this morning and now it can, I have to assume this is some kind of staged rollout. Don't give up hope!

Does the Samsung browser provide data for Google Now like chrome does? Will it share history with chrome too? Losing syncing is a big deal for me

When I long press for Google search while in the Samsung browser, it shows results pertinent to the contents in the browser's current tab, just like in Chrome.
Samsung Browser's history isn't shared with Chrome. Your Google search results should be carried over to any browsers set to use Google as default while logged in to the same Google account.
I've read that there's an add-in in the Chrome store that will sync Chrome bookmarks to your Samsung account, which would then, theoretically, make their way to your Samsung devices via syncing through your Samsung account. I haven't tried to get that working yet, or even gone looking for it, so take that info for what it's worth.

Hello XDA Community,
Actually I wanted to post my topic in "Web App Development" but since I just signed up I was told to try my luck here. I hope that someone can help me. Thanks!
The little problem
I have a Web App / Android App based on Cordova. My app needs at least the Chrome Engine 50 to support all functions and looks right. Unfortunately I noticed that there are many devices that use a much older version. Also the devices do not use a common source for the Chrome Engine. Some use the Chrome Browser itself or the Android System WebView. In these two cases I can tell my testers, install the two things and then it works. Currently I check at the start of the app which version is installed and if it is less than 50 I show an info that users have to update ther apps / components particularly important here the two things (Chrome Browser itself or the Android System WebView). I rather say my users that they should update all ther apps because some hardware manufacturers have their own apps that include the Chrome Engine. That alone I find very unpleasant.
The biger problem
But it is worse with devices that have their own Chrome Engine built into the firmware. So one that you can not update at all via the apps update only just the hardware manufacturer of the phone can update them with firmware updates. So many cheap devices that don't get any more updates simply fall out and bring me possibly bad ratings.
What can you do?
Maybe someone has an idea? Because this way I can put my app in the store from Android 4.4 on but even 6.0 devices have older Chrome Engine versions in their firmwares. Can't I provide a chrome engine version or say I use it there from Chrome or from the Android system WebView? I'm really on the edge and need a clever solution.
I would be very happy about some help or exchange. Thanks a lot.
Best regards
Robi
Hi, wonder if someone can help me with my old TF101.
I want to have it on the wall in my house just for a home assistant display. The app I want to use is fully kiosk browser or wall panel. I've tryed a number of roms and currently got katkiss 6.0.1 installed without play store.
I can brows the internet with the default app, browser, but some web sites don't display and is states "please update browser". I can install the fully kiosk browser but it states I need to update Android web view I've downloaded and installed lots of different virsions (one at a time) with no luck.
I've installed Xposed and run webviewgoogle but it won't allow any web browser to run.
So my question is how do I get a new version of web view to install correctly so I can view current web pages.
I would appreciate help on this and give a good old device a new purpose.
Many thanks in advance
I'm exactly in the same situation, I didnt flash the tablet yet, Just took it out after few years and realized that I can't install anything through playstore nor while downloading an APK of Fully Kiosk Browser . I was thinking of flashing the recovery and installing à new rom but after seeing your post, it sounds like it's not enough..
But when I see

Hey i fell on this thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...t/app-chromium-m56-optimized-tegra-2-t3550210
Download the latest apk, home assistant works very well with that chromium apk.
Okay there is no full screen like full fully Kiosk but at least the browser works very well and if you install that with tasker and the mqtt plugin, you can manage to have cool automations with this tablet !
Hope that helps.
Cheers.

Hello,
I am currently looking for a Web Browser and a File Manager for my Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Ideally I would like to use Chrome Browser and Solid Explorer, both of which I currently use on my Pixel 5. Seeing as how neither one of these applications are available through the playstore (watch version) my question is does anyone have any recommendations for alternatives or has anyone tried side loading either of these applications and if so how do/did they work out for you?
Side note: I am familiar with adb and side loading apps if needed.
This file manager wear OS, transfer files from browser to galaxy watch 4 (free) wear OS

Okay thanks I will check it and see if I like.
I have ADB sideloaded in the watch an older version of the chrome browser APK and it works but the screen is not optimized for a circular screen. Use it mostly to check Facebook and search the Google Keep notes web version (as the wear os app does not have a Search function)

Why a older version and not the current version?
I think I tried the latest but was crashing, could be insufficient ram
