Hi, I'm trying to solve this constant battery drain issue from my phone radio signal, my mobile data is off and I've turned off 'Keep mobile data alive' in developer setting.
I've a rather weak LTE signal in my housing area ranging around -106db (yellow range). I've tried band locking but my carrier only have 1 band (band 3) available in my area and they are going to remove 3g end of this year.
I'm looking for suggestion or solution like stop boosting the transmitter strength when the reception is low/bad or applying a transmitter threshold. Thanks.

Try a network reset.
Clear system cache.
Try in safe mode to see if it's a 3rd party app.
Any cloud or backup apps running?

I've tried the afore-mention methods except the clear system cache thingy. I forgot to say that if I turn on airplane mode the 'Phone Radio' doesn't consume any battery anymore despite having wi-fi turned on.
Ummm, look at your stats.
>.4%@hr at night. Phone standby uses the most power at night but not much...
Here are all of the options in Settings that may help in the order they appear in the app, but not necessarily the best priority.
Settings -> Network & internet -> Mobile network
Disable "Roaming"
Disable "VoLTE"
Disable "5G Network"
Set "Preferred network type" to the highest known available speed (as in if you don't have 4G, select the one that tops out at 3G).
You could also disable "Automatically select network" and choose the specific network you want to connect. Keep in mind, this setting will also limit you to that network even when it is not the best connection.
The drain is not THAT much greater than any phone with decent reception. Honestly, turning on Airplane mode with Wifi when you know the reception is bad and you can use it is really the best option. Both have statusbar tiles that are much easier than going in and selecting networks or changing network types, unless they are always the same everywhere.

since a few days ago every time i turn the wifi on and go into to select networks i dont get that screen anymore. like my home wifi works cuz it has the password. but i cant connect to other networks :S
This might have something to do with me deleting the profiles for wifi networks i dont use anymore. Thats the last time i saw the profiles screen.
i did this due to my ppc connecting on its own to a wifi when antena was off ..more like a pc wifi signal and that annoyed me so i poked around and deleted the profile of that network and others from past.
since then i cannot see even the wifi icon in the top bar all i see is the <-> arrows but with out the antenna in the background i.e <-I->
nor can i find that page where i deleted the network profiles from :S
where is it ?? i think it comes on only when the <-I-> is present.
is this a symptom of something?
u see i do not get this:

assuming this is wm6 of course
well here is something thats interesting.
installed wefi to see if it fixes things and that Wi-fi icon has disappeared... renamed to network cards :S ( i think) whats going on am i losing settings link heh.
Still cannot connect to tother wifi's , with wefi not even my own :S lol
( might as well ask what backup software i should look into that will back up the rom as well since i feel i should go 6.1, or point me into the right direction for a tutorial to extract my own rom )
Update: uninstalled wefi.
icons back to before state. good.
heres what i got in my connections tab. can some one tell me if i am missing something:
band switch
beam
bluetooth
cell broadcast( what is this feature..thx)
connections
csd line type
grps setting
sms setting
usb to pc ( why does this never work- have to use wm5torage
wi-fi
wifi utility
and mwg wireless manager ( btw when u click wifi in it- it does not change status of wifi only LED turns on )
try to change best performance or normal cpu profile
So, I have extremely crappy 3G coverage at my home sometimes, and it completely prohibits me from speaking to people. I have called AT&T tech support and basically they said they know the transmitter in my area has a problem, and I can go pound sand. A microcell "might" work, but I have heard they have problems on DSL lines, and I really don't feel it is fair that I should have to pay extra for what my service provider should be supplying anyways. But enough with my anger at my provider.....
I just purchased this LG Phoenix and the way I used to get around my 3G problem previously was that I would force 2g/EDGE on my old BlackBerry Bold 9000. Not only that, but it used to save LOTS of battery power. On this phone though, it wouldn't appear you can't disable 3G. I have checked in the settings, and I have tried a couple of different Apps in the android market to no avail.
Have I missed something, or am I just going to have to wait months till developers start rolling out custom ROMs or the like? I really like this phone other than the fact that I can barely make calls on it at my house. Which negates the purpose of owning a phone I suppose.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well, I see nobody has any answers. That's OK, because I found out what I needed.
Basically AT&T disabled the option to choose your data network within the operating system. (Along with side-loading, which I will admit they fixed with the 2.2.2 update)
What I need to access is in one of the two following menu options on this device:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Unfortunately, I have been told that I can deal with it and pound sand, or wait until a custom ROM is adapted to this device.
Sooooo.....
In case anybody actually gives a crap, I have found an answer to my dilemma.
You can force 2g/3g transmitter usage though the hidden menu on your phones.
First, dial: 3845#*505# (Phoenix) 3845#*506# (Thrive)
Scroll down to the "Network Mode" selection and enter.
Automatic is the first selection in that menu. This is what are phones are set to by default. This allows the phone to switch between whatever it thinks is the best wireless network to use. Unfortunately, I can barely talk to people when I have 1 bar of signal in my house, and very often the phone won't switch over to 2g when 3g signal is very weak. 2g also saves A LOT on battery power.
If you want to choose the wireless mode your phone, scroll down to the bottom of that menu and you will find the following options:
- If you choose WCDMA Only, you will connect to the 3G network
- If you choose GSM Only, you will connect to the 2G/EDGE network
I hope this is helpful to somebody other than just me.
Is there an easier way of doing this rather than inputting that code each and every time?
Bueller? Bueller?
Hi Everyone,
I have a weird problem with my connections since upgrading to ICS. (Stock / Virtuous Inq / IC Sense 3.6 / IC Sense 4). 3G Data is used whenever the phone wants to get an estimate about my whereabouts. All active wifi connections are dropped at that stage. (Really annoying with cSipSimple)
Steps to reproduce:
- Enable 3G and WiFi, connect to WiFi
- Enable Google Location Services
- Start an app that tries to get your rough location, like Facebook or Speedtest.net
You can see the E/3G/H icon appearing and also see that data is being sent. Worse, all the apps are using this connection now (the WiFi connection seems invalid at that point). It takes about 5 to 10 seconds, then this 3G data connection is being dropped causing the apps to lose the connection to their servers. The phone then switches back to WiFi until it uses the location services again.
Can anyone confirm this behaviour?
Is there already a solution to this? I didn't find one. I could go and deactivate Mobile Data everytime I log on to a WiFi, but I really don't want to spend so much time thinking about how to use my phone and just use it... maybe a little app?
I did find an app called Smart Data Switch which has an option for what seems to be working for me

It's called "wifi preferred" and deactivates the 3G Network every time I connect to a wifi network. As soon as the connection drops, it reenables 3G data. With this, I do not suffer those problems in Facebook anymore... but is it worth 1,29€ or is there an alternative solution?
When you enable apps that check your location (why would you let facebook do that??) it then needs the 3G to check aainst the cell for you position
So it can't use wifi and 3g together therefore wifi goes off whilst it logs onto the cell for you position
Change the settings for the apps if you enable gps as you location (again why for facebook it knows avery thing about you except when you scratch your self anyway) it can stay logged onto wifi and power up gps - no loss of signal for you
Tbo I can't remember what I set, but for me (not facebook) what happens is
I'm on wifi - open up app that uses my location - gps fire up - picks up location
- gpss closes down - apps continue to have a connection - no loss of service/time and no frustration
If you rom can't do this condiser trying one that can
How to disable "Network disabled because internet connection is slow" on Galaxy
Normally, this feature wouldn’t be a big deal: if your WiFi network was slow, it would just transfer you to your cellular network until the connection gets back to speed. But if you want to disable, it's easy.
To disable this feature:
Long press on the WiFi toggle button
Hit MENU
Hit ADVANCED
UNcheck AUTO NETWORK SWITCH
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"

This will disable the “Network disabled because internet connection is slow” message that appears under the disconnected SSID and will allow you to use WiFi without being disconnected.

Wow thank you so much! This has seriously been passing me off since I got my s4. I got a wifi extender without a whole lot of bandwidth so every time I am downloading something on my computer it shuts my phones wifi off. I live in a rural area without 3g so basically it shuts down my phones internet. Anyway thanks again. Also I hope that's your picture cuz your hot and just fixed this that's been irritating the living hell outta me haha.
Was lurking a battery drain thread and 5G came up a couple times so I thought I'd try to switch my band and see what's up. Tried dissecting Settings to the best of my ability and couldn't find sh*t for switching to 4G.
I was determined tho, whipped out the old Google and after a couple searches found a 'Samsung Band Selection' app as a workaround, but I thought the app was overkill for what I wanted. It was pulling a native menu from Settings so I used Tiles(Nova Actions worked too) and looked through its Activities and found that menu myself

No idea if this is even useful for anyone-- thought it was neat. I'm streaming music at work and the network constantly disconnects into a limbo/tug-of-war with finding a suitable connection. Now it's a QS shortcut
Settings -> Connections -> Mobile Networks -> Network mode -> LTE/3G/2G
LTE is 4G. No dialer codes or fancy backdoor access required.
Right, that's where I originally got frustrated. This is what happens when I click Network Mode and why I even considered making this post
Spoiler: Screen Shots
Completely different menu compared to the unlocked version. Must be a Verizon thing.

Verizon continues to amaze me with the ridiculous chastity belt it puts on each device. Theres only one Flip3 section so I put it under general knowing that it'll only apply to a fraction
The discussions in these threads were super helpful towards my battery drain, but I wish I could follow universal guides for android
The ability to access simple things without needing the planets to be aligned..
If your current network is not working properly and you want to switch your network with verizon so you will take a good decision here you have to use WPS BUTTON OF WIFI ROUTER this network is very fast and it help you to download your work and content.
