Few questions regarding OnePlus 6 on AT&T after disabling 3G by them. I have already received "non-3G" replacement phone, which is worse than OP6, and current phone got locked by AT&T. After a lot of hustle I have got to work OP6 with the new SIM card from that "non-3G" phone. I have enabled VoLTE in the hidden menu and got them displayed in the Settings. After rebooting I have got VoLTE icon as well on the bar. My questions if OP6 is going to work after Feb 21st? IMEI was assigned to the SIM manually in the system from what I know.
I'm fully expecting my ATT OP6 to stop working in Feb. I have not had my phone locked by them, but I have received my crappy replacement phone.
I'll have to check out the volte setting.

Look at the date when you will get your replacement phone as they will lock your current device by IMEI two weeks after you got replacement no matter what. Taking off SIM card from that phone and putting in the OP6 may work till the system will block it anyway based on IMEI. Before blocking (when you will use new SIM) you will receive a text message stating that your device is not going to work with current service.
I have reached higher to the tech support stating that OP6 has LTE and VoLTE as I have used fine during my trip to the UE. No clue what they have did but was something related to my IMEI but they do not guarantee that all is going to work fine after Feb so no clue. I think all is because OP6 was not sold official in the States at the time when OP6T was and both are using the same chip and OP6T is on the ATT list of supported devices.
Switch to T-Mobile. I did, miles better and cheaper.

Why is it that tmobile and the global variants have different oxygen OS software numbers and receiving updates at different intervals. I've been seeing the news of 9.5.4 being released with tons of improvements specofocally to the camera module, then I realized I'm on 9.5.5, and am wondering did I get those updates already, what is the deal here?

I am also on 9.5.5, I got my phone on Thursday and when I woke up Friday morning I saw my phone had rebooted and it said the update was successfully installed.
So from what I've read 9.5.5 is for the T-Mobile version and 9.5.4 is global but the release notes indicate we have the updates. What's weird is there is no update info on TMobile website and I thought all updates have to go through them.
Just got this today

No, the new T-Mobile 9.5.6 that just came out (like today) is basically 9.4.5 for the international version.

It appears that way.
And I just updated to 9.5.6 but that was just the April security update

Same update just for a different variant. It is a T-Mobile branded phone meaning the way it is, it only works on T-Mobile, the Global variant is unlocked and will work on almost any carrier except Sprint. This is common on any Android phone where there is a branded and global version.
Also the EU version has a separate release for GDPR updates. This makes for overlapping software version numbers that are NOT compatible or the same. If you flash anything make sure to match both the version number and phone model for your existing phone unless you are flashing the entire package and know what you are doing.
Unlocked phones get the updated first. Global/India are 9.5.4 and EU is 9.5.5 because of some new regulations. They are the exact same change logs but have to be labeled separately. T-Mobile is behind the unlocked phones as T-Mobile has to get the update and then customize it for their carrier crap. T-Mobile phones just got the April security patch but nothing the unlocked phones just got so you'll be waiting a week or 2 of longer even to get those improvements probably
That's why I'll never by another carrier phone... Unlocked forever more with me.
There's a major plus going with a carrier phone. Insurance. With TMO if this decides to break or start glitching out, i can walk into the store and walk out with a new one. If I have to wait 2-3 weeks for updates, big deal. As far as the "carrier crap" is concerned, I think they have said multiple times that they need to test Band 600 and make sure the software is flowing with the network. TMO doesn't really have any bloatware.
Unlocked for the win! Cheers

It doesn't take weeks to just test a band frequency. And yes T-Mobile still has bloat just not as much. All the T-Mobile apps they put on the phones.

tmobile still changes unnecessary things. For example unlocked model in status bar shows LTE for signal while T-Mobile shows 4Glte, thats just one example as I have both devices.

It comes with two apps installed..and both can be removed. The signal bar has always been changed for some reason. Each carrier has their own signal terms.. no idea why. Its been that way for ages now.

I'm aware. That's my point. T-Mobile changed more then just the invite in the status bar. All carriers do. That why it will be a couple weeks at least before the tap and camera improvements make it to the T-Mobile phones. It's just the way it is buying a carrier phone.
Buddy of mine got a used TMO pro7. It's paid off fully. But TMobile told him only the original owner can have the device Sim unlocked. Is this true? This seems illegal, no? Does he have any other options? Thanks.
I am in the same boat, did your buddy ever figure this out?
Same here hopefully a fix soon!
Cannot speak to the 7 Pro in this area...however, I just SIM unlocked a Pixel 3a from T-Mobile.
All I had to do was to find a web site within T-Mobile that asks for the IMEI number and it determines if the phone can be unlocked. I guess it's checking to make sure the phone is paid for and that it had been used for at least 40 days on their network. Mine passed the test and I was able to unlock it without any trouble following the prompts. I cannot remember anything about having to prove that I was the owner....??? YMMV
Here is the site that I used.

I got a 7pro on eBay and it's locked to tmobile. Is it impossible for use outside the US if i don't have the original sim card? I don't even have a t-mobile sim card around. I found some third party services for a massive 15 day wait time and $40+ USD. Is this the only way available to me due to my circumstance? Also are these services reliable in terms of unlocking and staying in that fashion. I read some comments about how recent updates have caused issues where people have to go back and if I did pay and wait... would I still be at risk? thanks
Is anyone using the Sprint unlocked variant of the v50 on T-Mobile? If so, hows the LTE reception and does WiFi calling work? The Sprint variants are super cheap on eBay and they state they are unlocked for all GSM networks.
Likely not domestic unlocked though, unless they've been paid off and requested to be unlocked. Maybe things have changed and I didn't know about it, but that's how it has been for some time.
Seeing a lot of unlocked versions on eBay claiming comparability. I read on the forums folks successful in activating it in Google Fi with some pain

I got a g8 from this y something seller and it's a Sprint and fully unlocked. It works pretty well so far, I've heard other people say the calls are messed up but I haven't had any issues so far.
I just got a used unlocked Sprint V50 from Ebay also from the yy wireless seller, and put my AT&T Sim card from my V40 in, and everything just works as it should on an unlocked device without any further steps. Still setting it up now, and just got a software update even.
I have a V50 Sprint version from the same yy eBay seller. The phone works on T-Mobile and debloating using the adb remove from user 0 method works as well. VoLTE and Wifi calling are not working and I don't believe there is a way to force them to activate unless root access is gained at some point. Hopefully when Sprint and T-Mobile merge these features will be activated. I may switch to a OnePlus 7 Pro in the mean time because wifi calling is actually pretty critical where I live for T-Mobile. A shame because I really love some LG features like still having a headphone jack and the DAC/fingerprint on rear.
So I'm an idiot. When I went to pre-order, I selected T-Mobile since they didn't have a Sprint option and I figured they were "merged" by now. Apparently that's not the case. I was reluctant to get the Unlocked model.
When I got the phone yesterday, I spent 4 hours on the phone (Note 8) and a worthless trip to one of the "Sprint/T-Mobile" stores. On the last call, a guy from Sprint said my IMEI number was not in the database yet -- I'm guessing because it shipped about 5 days earlier than expected. He would elevate the issue so it would and he'd call me back once it was added, then I could transfer my Sprint SIM from my Note to my T-Mobile Fold 2. He didn't call back.
The guy at the store said I'd have to call T-Mobile to get them to unlock it so I could put it on Sprint. But they won't talk to me if I don't have an account with them and that I'd have to talk to Sprint.
I want to keep my cell phone number, so now I'm wondering if I just open a new T-Mobile account and get my number ported to T-Mobile. I've been with Sprint for 22 years so I'm reluctant to do that even though they're going to be one network -- but probably not for a while.
Recommendations?

File an FCC Complaint. It's kind of the nuclear option but in my experience when it comes to cell phone and working with wireless providers (as well as internet) that's really the only thing that seems to get them to treat the customer as a customer. Even if the phone isn't compatible that will at least get someone from the Executive Offices on the phone with you to lay out what is happening and how to fix it.

I got my phone Tmobile variant Wed paid in full and tried to unlock it in the phone settings. Didn't work. So called up Tmobile. He told me to do what i already tried. Told him it didn't work. He took my IMEI and he put me on hold. Then he came back and said to try again in 3 days and if i still can't unlock it to call back. I too think maybe it's because the phone isn't technically out yet. I'm using Fi which will only be using Tmobile anyway so i went ahead and flashed unlocked firmware. Then i downloaded the Fi app and was able transfer my number. But of course being on unlocked firmware the unlock option is now gone. So i may flash the carrier firmware this weekend and try unlocking again.
I'm currently in the same predicament. I was going to get the unlocked version but it was going to take another month to ship so I went ahead with the T-mobile version. After being unable to activate the phone, after 2+ hours working with CS the answer I finally ended up with from a T-Mobile rep (Sprint was useless) was to go into a store today and they can transfer my account over to T-Mobile and then I'd be able to activate the new one. The process will also unlock the rest of my phones so that they can accept a new SIM card from T-Mobile. Not what I wanted to do but since I can't get an unlocked version it may be the only option I have because after playing with this phone there is no way I'm getting rid of it.
Last night, I finally got my situation RESOLVED!
I went to another Sprint/T-Mobile store and found someone who knew how to transfer my Sprint account and Phone Number over to T-Mobile using the same SIM card! I chose the Magenta Plus plan -- and am even saving $20 a month for being "Over 55"! I'm now a VERY happy camper who's now getting 150Mbps downloads (so far). The Manager said he noticed the Model Number of my Z Fold 2 and thinks it was the Verizon model which may have caused some of the problems.
Hello,
I owned a Verizon Galaxy Note 20 Ultra that I bought shortly after release. I got bored with it, as often happens, so I paid it off in full and sold it, to someone who uses T-Mobile. They cannot activate the phone, when they put their T-Mobile SIM in it, it gives the message "SIM card is not from Verizon Wireless". The facts:
I owned and used the phone for well over the 60 day automatic unlock period.
It was active on my Verizon account for the entire time until a week before I sold it.
It was paid off IN FULL, and my account said the line was paid in full and ready for an upgrade.
My Verizon account is never behind or not paid on time (Auto-Pay)
Is there something I needed to do to the phone besides factory reset it? Is there anything that can be done? Should I call Verizon customer service? To further complicate matters, the person I sold it to lives in another state. I may need to have them send me the phone back and refund them their money if I can't figure this out.
Thank you so much for any help that can be provided.
Are you sure you used the device for 60 days?

SIM card is not from Verizon Wireless is a common message for all Verizon branded phones. May be buyer is confused with this message.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes, it was activated in late August 2020 and was active up until the end of December 2020. No, I didn't realize I should try a different carrier's SIM first.
I asked them if they are able to call or text despite the SIM card message and they said no.
You need(ed) to request VZW to carrier (SIM) unlock the device prior to selling it.

I'm so confused, Verizon says devices are automatically unlocked in their policies listed here: https://www.verizon.com/support/device-unlocking-policy/
I'm going to call Verizon, and see if there's anything they can do.
Update: Called Verizon tech support, and the agent confirmed that the device IS unlocked. He said I should have the buyer contact T-Mobile customer service and add the device to their database. Hopefully that works.

Adding to database is a Verizon thing, Tmobile is gsm. There is no way to sim unlock it if you don't do it on your phone line and request the unlock as if you're using the phone yourself.
Verizon will not unlock it unless it's currently on the line and met the other criteria you already have. For some reason verizon can't read if its really unlocked unless it's on their network, I went through it with an iphone earlier this year. They're a mess.
damn, i thought me getting a new phone annually is bad. you get a new phone every quarter? lol, actually i was thinking about trading mine for a fold 2 but no s-pen, no exp storage and a step down camera array, i decided to keep my note and see if they fix the fold 2's shortcomings.
what's in your pocket now?
It is quite possible that the buyer was not using an existing active sim. He was probably trying to activate a new sim which failed. I had the same issue with AT&T when activating a new sim. AT&T was not recognizing Unlocked model imei and I had to use a very old phone imei for activating sim after which I was able to use the same sim with with AT&T.
It also possible the buyer is lying to you. Either way it looks like the deal is going tits up for you. Perhaps next time check with a T-Mobile SIM before selling it or sell it as verizon locked. Feel for you.
Hello, i know this is a old thread but did you find the solution? i bought a verizon note 20 ultra and it doesnt work on any carrier, just work for a minute and it stops.
You guys found a way to unlock this? I just got the same phone and its a very expensive paperweight atm
