X88 Pro 10 full access issues - General Questions and Answers

Okay let me start by saying I have been modifying android boxes for several years so the question that I ask is not because I've never done it before. I recently purchased the X88 Pro 10 media box. It has Android 11 as the O/S, and the firmware for the device is from Oct. 2021. I turn on the developer options and try to access the device using ADBlink via the Ip address without success. I then connect the device to my laptop via a usb cable connection and I'm able to install an APK though my ability to go in and access or modify files and folders is limited. Has anyone else had this issue and what were you able to do to overcome the issue?

I just picked one of these up to use as an Android 11 test kit. Unfortunately, the developers who built the Android disabled wireless adb debugging! Luckily, the box is rooted at the factory so I was able to add it in. Connect via USB, su to root, mount / as rw (mount -o rw,remount / ) and add this line to the end of /system/build.prop
Code:
service.adb.tcp.port = 5555
This change to build.prop is persistent after resets so you only have to do it once.

I'm using ad link 4.8, I'm connected to the device via USB to see the device, and have the ADB Shell open. however I must be typing in the commands in wrong. See attachment. Please assist.
Thank you.

Looking at your screenshot, it appears that you have successfully gained root access (the # prompt). Your next steps :
mount the / partition as rw:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /
Add code to the end of /system/build.prop
Code:
echo "service.adb.tcp.port = 5555" >> /system/build.prop
mount the / partition as ro:
Code:
mount -o ro,remount /
This worked for me. YMMV

Thank you for the assist. That allowed me access to the device via up address.
The only issue I have now is that all the Kodi folders and files are hidden when you try to use File Manager in adbLink. This device has been the biggest bear to work with.. Once again thank you for the assistance and patiences

In the device record, check the "disable root" checkbox, save the record, then disconnect the device. When you reconnect the file manager should work.

I did as you suggested and rebooted the device.
I was only able to access this far in file manager

For Android 11, Google has implemented scoped storage which removes the ability for external applications (or the normal shell) to read/write in /sdcard/Android/data/. You can still access this area via the shell as the root user. File manager won't work as root on this device, sorry.

Ok I understand. Thank you very much

Hello i'm on android 11, how i can use the root access? Doesn't work for me

I no longer have this device. Good luck!

Installing Vending.apk (Market) on Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) from the middle east

Hi all
I bought my Galaxy S from Abu Dhabi just to latter figure out that it DOESNT come with Market, instead, it comes with a useless SLIDEME... where NONE of the major apps are available. So I searched everywhere and never found a straight answer...
Time for desperate tries than.... and what worked for me was:
I assume NO RESPONSABILITY for this, it might work for phones from other countries.
Try at your own risk.
I won’t be available to help out, I just want to share what I did and worked.
(You can find more details for the individual steps browsing this forum)
Install latest version of Kies
Install the firmware update from Kies (froyo, if already not installed)
Reboot you phone
Change the following settings on the phone:
Apps -> Settings -> Applications
Mark: Unknown Sources
Click on -> Development
Mark USB Debugging and Stay awake
Connect your phone to your PC with the USB cable
Download the latest version of the “SuperOneClick” root tool (I used 1.5.5-ShortFuse)
Unzip it to an easy folder to access by command line (DOS prompt), something like: “C:\super”
Root your phone using this tool (READ the instructions on their webpage, all I had to do was execute the SuperOneClick.exe, click "root" and wait for the process to finish, AGAIN, more details on the post about the SuperOneClick.)
Reboot
(If your rooting worked, you should see an “app” called “superuser”)
Now, on your phone, unmark the “USB Debugging” option you marked on the beginning (you will have to “disconnect” the phone click on the home button to do that)
Open a command line prompt you your pc, and change directory to where you unzipped the SuperOneClick files.
If you are you the right folder, you should see an “adb.exe”
Type the following commands (NO MISTAKES ALLOWED HERE, PAY ATTENTION):
adb shell
Hit enter
su
enter again
your phone should pop up SuperUser app, asking for super user permission for the shell, click Allow (and mark remember)
your command line will change from $ to #, meaning, you are root user.
I suggest you copy and paste the following because any mistake (missing or extra spaces) can cause serious problems
Type:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
hit enter
cat /system/ojpcom/Vending.apk > /system/app/Vending.apk
hit enter
mount –o ro,remount –t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
hit enter
exit
hit enter
exit

hit enter
(no message will show up after this commands if they were successful)
Reboot you phone, unplug USB cable.
Market should be one of your Apps now
Thaaaaaaank youuuu
You solved it finally, it works like charm thank you,.,.,
WOW!! Great!!!
Finally i can access Android Market from Iran (via VPN).
Thanks a lot
when you do this your phone will be out of warranty.if you venture that then flash a proper custom rom which already includes latest market plus custom rom features.
I got this message "cannot create /system/app/Vending.apk": read only file system . Any help?

[Resolved] HANNSpree HSG1279 root and recovery!!! [Updated 01/28/14]

Updated OP with solution, many thanks to @fipsy for the final solution, here is his post for those that need help rooting this device: (UPDATE: Root for 4.2.2 at the end of the post)

As omegadrive supposed you just have to exchange the su binary, give the right permissions and the Superuser App from the Playstore will immediately work.
The necessary USB drivers for the device are found here: http://yadi.sk/d/54lX5c2O386XU
They only work with Windows 7!
After starting the "adb shell" you can gain root permissions on the device by typing "su". The su distributed with the device in /system/xbin is not compatible with common superuser apks. So it has to be exchanged with the version 3.1.1 binary: http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip
Copy it to your /sdcard. Then continue with adb shell:
Code:
$ su
# cd /system/xbin
Mount the system partition read/write:
Code:
# mount -o remount,rw -t rfs /dev/block/st19 /system
Rename the original binary for later use (if something fails):
Code:
# mv su su-orig
Copy the binary to the xbin folder:
Code:
# busybox cp /sdcard/su ./su
Change the permissions:
Code:
# chmod 6755 su
Mount the system partition read-only and exit:
Code:
# mount -o remount,ro -t rfs /dev/block/st19 /system
# exit
$ exit
Now install the Superuser App from the Playstore - and have fun! Do *NOT* Update the su binary from within the Superuser App or it will be overwritten with a non-working version!

CUSTOM RECOVERY FINALLY POSSIBLE!!! Again, many thanks to @fipsy, here is his post:
fipsy said:
I finally made it! Here is a working CWM Recovery for the HANNspree HANNSpad SN1AT71 (HSG1279).
I didn't fully test it but the backup function works. Also mounting and unmounting partitions works as well as the adb shell which is very important if the device is bricked and doesn't boot anymore.
Before connecting to the device via adb shell it is necessary to mount the /system partition (menu "mounts and storage") because otherwise /system/bin/sh cannot be found by adb shell.
The CWM recovery by default stores it's backups on the external SD-Card. The benefit is that the backup can easily be plugged out and stored apart from the device. But the recovery is also able to restore backups from the internal sdcard. Those backups can be made online on a running android system by using apps like "Online Nandroid Backup" and "Nandroid Manager". The benefit is that it's not necessary to reboot the device before backing up and you can keep on working.
There is one problem when creating backups in CWM Recovery: The date/time of the backup is always set to 1st of January 1970 due to a missing backup battery in this device. Look here: http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=341. So if you want to make backups with accurate timestamps you would have to set the actual time of the device using adb shell: Start adb shell and enter:
Code:
/system/xbin/busybox date -s "YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss"
before making the backup.
To cut a long story short: Download the CWM-Recovery here: http://yadi.sk/d/ArprqzfFFWvy4 and flash it to your (rooted) device. How to do this:
Copy the file cwm-recovery.ima to your internal sdcard.
Either connect via adb shell and enter su
or run a Terminal Emulator and enter su
then enter
Code:
cat /sdcard/cwm-recovery.ima > /dev/block/acta
and you're done! Have fun! Comments are appreciated!
Perhaps someone likes to create an update.zip from it?

ROOT for new OTA 4.2.2 update:
fipsy said:
Good news for germany: The rollout began tonight! I just got the update to Android 4.2.2!
Some people asked for the upgrade file to manually update from the recovery. Here it is: http://yadi.sk/d/igsBGsAjFpLsL
Edit (01/13/2014): Seems this update only works on devices with special G-Sensor hardware (KIONIX 3-axis Accelerometer).
@ig6677: There you will also find the META-INF you wanted.
For your information: After my update to Android 4.2.2 root has gone on my device! I expected this. All Apps that need root don't work anymore. I don't know what you did that root was still there after the update...
Furthermore in /system/xbin there is no su file anymore. Also my CWM Recovery has gone and was replaced by the Stock HANNspree recovery!
But whats new: If you connect to the device via adb shell you immediately have superuser rights! No su is needed for this anymore. So it's possible to restore the CWM Recovery using cat.
If you adb push the 3.1.1 su binary from your pc to the /sdcard on your device and after this execute my commands in the first posting of this thread the apps have su rights with superuser.apk again. But you will not be able to add new programs to the superuser app (if a new app requests superuser rights there is no popup). So this is no solution.
The Superuser App is not able to grant superuser rights on android systems > 4.1.1, but the App SuperSu is! So download the SuperSU ZIP from here: http://download.chainfire.eu/351/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip
Then copy it to your sdcard and install it using the Recovery. Voila! Everything works again!
Another issue: The Huawei E1750 Surfstick is not detected anymore. On 4.1.1 it was no problem to surf using this stick. But I think this is one of the "great features" of the new android versions...

:victory: Here it is: The new version 6.0.3.3 of CWM Recovery for the HANNspree HANNSpad SN1AT71 (HSG1279)
Beside some minor bugfixes the main benefit of this release is that there are no more errors when trying to restore the .android_secure folder. So the "dirty" workaround to restore this folder is not necessary anymore.
The .android_secure folder is also automatically restored together with the data partition when selecting "data" from the "advanced restore" options.

My original question:
Just bought this tablet on Cybermonday for a really good price, but can't find a way to root it for the life of me...
Main problem has been I can't see it using ADB (v1.0.31), always list no devices even with the latest generic Google ADB driver, which shows fine on device manager.
Tablet comes with Android 4.1.1 and no extras, is just a plain version of android with Play market and ES File Explorer pre installed and have access to android stock recovery.
Any ideas?
Also, just in case I start messing with the tablet, Any way I can backup the stock system just in case?
Thanks.
Update:

Found that this tablet is practically the same as the Ainol Novo 10 Hero (don't know if version 1 or 2 thou)
So looking in Google found a thread that has modded ADB drivers and following the instructions managed to get ADB to find the device.
Now to keep experimenting

Update 3:
After trying over 20 generic rooting methods I come back defeated, 6 hours of testing and nothing. :crying:
I also have picked up 2 of these devices (1 for me and 1 for my wife). I have tried every method I can find to root this, inclicking mutliple one click solutions, apps that are suposted to root, etc. and none of them seem to work, I think the reason why is because the device is being reconized as allready being rooted, SuperOneClick, Framaroot, and Kingo all stated that it was allready rooted ..but apps will not install as if the device was truly rooted. Also geting "access denied" when trying to access the root folder..
Applications that require root will install because they think it has root, they also will prompt stating to give root access/permissions, but when accepting, they simply lock up because they can't access the root correctly.
anyways, I'm done trying for now.. if anyone has any other ideas, please speak up and let us know. thanks!
also have one of these

I picked up one of these also, I tried a few of the rooting methods you guys listed before finding this post. also no sucess, Would love to get this working bit better, because stock rom is a bit sluggish when it shouldn't be given the specs.
OK, kept trying and found some interesting stuff, first of all a screenshot with the tablet info:

Second, it seems the tablet is already rooted but the root is just dummy or the interface has been disabled with deny set as default for any application.
So the trick to root it must be a way to replace de su binary or change the default permission to allow.
Any experts have any idea how to achieve this?

I thought about buying this Tab. But if there is no working root-methode or costumROM ability thats a dealbreaker for me.
You told that this tab should be identical to the "Ainol Novo 10 Hero". I dont know if that is true, because in one forum some guy told, that the HannSpee is chargeable via the USB-Port, and afaik the Ainol is not. You have the Hannspee, can you tell me if it is chargeable via USB ?
Anyway, on the german Amazon-site there is a guy that claims that costum-ROMs are working on the Ainol
I will ask him how he managed that and perhaps you can try that on you device. But I dont know if he answers, because responds on Amazon-rewievs are not like those in forums (often never answered)
hope some nerd comes up with a nice plan to break into this device......non-rooted devices are s**t!

Well, I deduced it was identical to the Ainol Novo cause at least the hardware specs are identical and the board and CPU are reported by CPU - Z to be the same one. Tablet layout is a little different thou.
Anyway yes, this one charges through the USB port, but really slowly, good enough to have the USB connected while using it and will not drain the battery, but on my last test it barely charged 5% in 3 to 4 hours of while using it.
Crossing my fingers you can get in contact with that guy and we can figure out how to root this ****er lol

Unfortunately it didn't worked, kept failing at validating files when it was installing from default recovery.
Anyway, going to try another method, these are the steps I followed:
1) Get ADB working and recognized.
a) Download these modded drivers and extract them.
b) Do this to install them since the drivers are not signed:
run CMD as admin
bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON
reboot
install driver from device manager
bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF
reboot
c) Go to %userprofile%\.android folder and if it doesn't exist create a text file named "adb_usb.ini" (no quotes and make sure INI is the extension, not TXT), open it and just add "0x10D6" (no quotes), save it
d) open CMD as admin
adb devices
Your device should be recognized at this point, this is what I got:
C:\>adb devices
List of devices attached
0123456789ABCDEF device
2) Will update post with new findings here...
How to root the device

umm, instead of using custom drivers, why not simply use the newest android Drivers? confirmed they work and device is reconized correctly, as long as you "install official droid drivers" then change the "adb_usb.ini" to only include 0x10D6 device, same as your last steps, but using official drivers, instead of custom ones. Maybe it has something to do with the failures?

thanks for this info. I'll test it out tonight, and let you know.
one question though.. so are you saying that future updates of SU will not work? if we do this, should we also disable auto-updates? If the software does update, will it break our system.. or simply that we need to reload the SU over again, but the OS will open, just limited to "non-rooted" ? ??

Code:
# mount -o remount,rw -t rfs /dev/block/st19 /system
Rename the original binary for later use (if something fails):
Code:
# mv su su-orig
Copy the binary to the xbin folder:
Code:
# busybox cp /sdcard/su ./su
Change the permissions:
Code:
# chmod 6755 su
Mount the system partition read-only and exit:
Code:
# mount -o remount,ro -t rfs /dev/block/st19 /system
# exit
$ exit
Now install the Superuser App from the Playstore - and have fun! Do *NOT* Update the su binary from within the Superuser App or it will be overwritten with a non-working version!

OMG!!! IT WORKED!!!
MANY THANKS!!!
Now have full root privileges woot!!! Tested with Titanium backup and ES File explorer they accepted root and got permission prompts :highfive:
I will update the OP with your instructions, they worked beautifully, MANY THANKS AGAIN!!!
Btw, Do you have any idea on which custom recovery may work and if the bootloader can be unlocked? (if it is locked, I can't see anything when booting into fastboot mode and Windows doesn't recognize the tablet at that moment, only shows unknown device)
I want to make a backup of the stock rom and start testing CM builds on it.

umm, instead of using custom drivers, why not simply use the newest android Drivers? confirmed they work and device is reconized correctly, as long as you "install official droid drivers" then change the "adb_usb.ini" to only include 0x10D6 device, same as your last steps, but using official drivers, instead of custom ones. Maybe it has something to do with the failures?

The original Android drivers never worked for me, used latest version 8.0 and the device was not recognized for some reason, only the modded drivers worked to recognize the ADB device. Btw, I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro and had to turn off driver signature to get the ADB drivers installed, maybe the issue was Win8.1 itself, but oh well, at least now we have a solution.

Update: After giving permissions with Superuser I went ahead and installed my SuperSU Pro license, gave it root rights (told it NOT to uninstall the other root app on prompt) and installed as a system app from within the app itself, reboot and voila! still fully rooted and binary updated (it replaced the other Superuser on reboot). So yeah, su binary updates are possible now :victory:
is there any custom recovery to install on this tablet?

This also was my first attempt but it failed. So I went the same way as Omegadrive did: I identified the device as a clone of the "Ainol Novo 10 Hero" and searched for appropriate drivers. I found the same ones as Omegadrive did. And they seem to be the only ones that are working.
Temil2006 said:
one question though.. so are you saying that future updates of SU will not work? if we do this, should we also disable auto-updates? If the software does update, will it break our system.. or simply that we need to reload the SU over again, but the OS will open, just limited to "non-rooted" ? ??

I don't know if future binaries will work. When I manually updated the su-binary within the Superuser App it definitely didn't work anymore. Maybe because the su was exchanged with an older version (3.0.*). But Omegadrive said that updates are possible. So I don't know at the moment. Be careful anyway! Normally there is no reason for updating fully working binaries. The su binary is never updated automatically. So you don't have to deactivate any auto-updates.
Cheers, Volker

The recovery mode is activated by pressing "Volume down -" and at the same time pressing the on/off key for about 3 seconds. Then releasing it while keep on holding down the "Volume -" until the recovery menu appears.
I think it will be possible to adapt the CWM Recovery. Perhaps we can investigate together on that!? Here the recovery file system table (for nandroid etc.). I just sent it to Ameer Dawood, the developer of "Online Nandroid Backup", so that he may integrate it into his App.
recovery filesystem table
=========================
0 /tmp ramdisk (null) (null) 0
1 /mnt/sdcard vfat /dev/block/actj (null) 0
2 /system ext4 /dev/block/actc (null) 0

Oh nice, thanks for the help, I'm no programmer, just a tinkerer, I'm willing to test anything you throw this way lol
My main priority right now is to make a backup of the current rom and then look for a way to repartition the /data cause 1Gb for apps is way too low, specially when there are 13Gb free on /sdcard, as want to make it 4Gb for /data and rest internal. I'm assuming I have to install custom recovery for that, or can ir be done right now from ADB?
Sent from my HSG1279 using Tapatalk
If you want to store parts of the filesystem (like /data/app, /data/app-private, /data/dalvik-cache and libs) to the sd-card you probably will have to install a custom rom like cyanogenmod which supports additional partitions / filesystems on the sd-card (like ext2).
But you're right. The first thing to do before making any experiments is to make a full backup (nandroid) and be able to restore it from a recovery. So we first should investigate on that...
I just installed the CWM recovery for the Ainol Novo 10 Hero 2 for testing. The device started into the CWM recovery screen but then failed to mount some folders. The menu was working but most features were not functional. This means that the HSG1279 is *not* fully compatible with the Ainol Hero 2.
So we have to find another solution. I suppose it will be quite a lot of work to adapt the CWM recovery to this device...

GUIDE: How to avoid the Captive Portal Checkin to Google

Dear XDA community,
this my first own thread and guide so please be forbear with me
And i hope i choose the right section
As the topic in the thread says it handles about the Captive Portal Checkin done by Android.
So first some general info about this.
1. What is the Captive Portal Checkin?
Every time your android phone connects to the internet via mobile connection or wlan it sends a request to the following url:
http://connectivitycheck.gstatic.com (Google URL).
After that your gets device gets http 204 answer from the mentioned url and at that point the x-symbol at your network icon in the status bar disappears.
The reason for that behavior is that Android wants to be sure that your connection has internet access.
If you block that request via AfWall for example the dns fails in some cases and you can't go into the Internet.
Silly.
2. Why is this problematic?
That's a good question because this answer from Google doesn't much hold data. But every time when this connection is done Google get the following information:
- IP-adress
- Time of the internet access
- the Browser which you use
In my case i use custom roms and no Gapps to avoid Google as much as i can. So i don't want that "ping" to Google.
That's the reason why i searched for possibilitys to get rid of this ping. And thanks to a german security and privacy specalist i found a possibilty to avoid the ping to Google and have working Internet, too.
3. What did that guy do?
Very simple. He just started his own Captive Portal Checkin Service. So no need for Google anymore
WHAT YOU NEED:
- Computer with installed ADB
- Active USB Debugging at your phone
- At least Android 7
TESTED ON:
I tested his instructions on my old Xperia Z3 phone (CarbonROM 7.0 based on Android 9, Custom Rom).
IMPORTANT:
You need to execute the commands with a booted system (valid for both posts where i write the instructions). It DOESN'T work in the terminal of recoveries (e.g. twrp).
Thanks @jaysir for the information.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Android 7:
1. Connect the phone with your computer
2. Activate ADB and test the connection with the "adb devices" command. If your phone shows up go to step 3.
3. Execute these commands in your terminal:
=> adb shell 'settings put global captive_portal_http_url "http://captiveportal.kuketz.de" '
=> adb shell 'settings put global captive_portal_https_url "https://captiveportal.kuketz.de" '
Android 8 and 9:
1. Connect the phone with your computer
2. Activate ADB and test the connection with the "adb devices" command. If your phone shows up go to step 3.
3. Execute these commands in your terminal:
=> adb shell 'settings put global captive_portal_http_url "http://captiveportal.kuketz.de" '
=> adb shell 'settings put global captive_portal_https_url "https://captiveportal.kuketz.de" '
=> adb shell 'settings put global captive_portal_fallback_url "http://captiveportal.kuketz.de" '
=> adb shell 'settings put global captive_portal_other_fallback_urls "http://captiveportal.kuketz.de" '
Well that's it. When you want to revert back just execute the commands again with this url:
http command: http://connectivitycheck.gstatic.com/generate_204
https command:
https://connectivitycheck.gstatic.com/generate_204

If i make any typos tell me
Thanks again to the german security researcher and his community there is a way to deactivate the captive portal checkin completly.
It works on Android 7 and Android 8.1/9. But in comparision to the method in my first post this needs root access on your phone.
For all new users:
I recommend Magisk to gain root.
So now the instructions:
For Android 8/9:
1. Open a terminal on your phone (via terminal apps).
2. Type the following command:
- su
- su
- pm disable com.android.captiveportallogin
- settings put global captive_portal_detection_enabled 0
- settings put global captive_portal_server localhost
- settings put global captive_portal_mode 0
3. Then reboot your phone (via hardware buttons, system or terminal app).
For Android 7:
1. Open a terminal on your phone (via terminal apps).
2. Type the following commands:
- su
- settings put global captive_portal_detection_enabled 0
- settings put global captive_portal_server localhost
- settings put global captive_portal_mode 0
3. Then reboot your phone (via hardware buttons, system or terminal app).

Very nice and very important tutorial!
Just for completeness; and I don't claim and definitely don't have a copyright. I reported these procedures already here end of April in the thread "Enhanced Privacy, Security and Battery Duration! My Measures...". I mentioned it also once here in the AFWall+ thread.
I'm very glad that these procedures get repeated and repeated again. From my personal point of view it's so important to develop the stance to not allow Google to collect our data. I've subscribed to Mike Kuketz and am very grateful for his job and dedication.

I agree to you. It's a pity that so much people don't care about it.
I must admit i forgot to search in forum whether the instructions was already posted but as you said every mention helps.
Thanks, however, not working on pixel experience rom.
Update:
Seems no settings command under ADB shell, worked when turning on Usb debugging.

As far as i see it the adb method (post 1) could working because according to the Internet the device runs Wear OS which is basically a android version for smartwatches.
So in theory you can activate USB debugging and redirect the captive portal to mike kuketz service as long as the commands are accepted.
Regarding method 2 i can't say anything because i don't own a smartwatch and have zero knowledge whether root is possible/how it is done on those smartwatches (which is needed for that method).

Just as you said, I enabled adb debugging, opened a terminal session from my mac to the watch and sent the commands from version 1 and they were both accepted. I should be able to check if it has worked tomorrow so will keep everyone updated when I've tested it.
OK. My watch appeared to connect to wifi but then said "No Internet".
I've now done the same mod to my phone, deleted the supermarket wifi I'm trying to connect my watch to from both the watch and the phone and will try again. I'm also wondering whether haveing BT on at the same time is causing a problem so I'll try with it on and then off and see if it makes any difference.
Thanks again for giving me hope I'll be able to connect WearOS 2 to a captive portal wifi network.
Further to above, unfortunately still no joy. Watch says "Connected" for the briefest moment then "No Internet" and won't go any further.
Never mind.
Thanks again for your work for the Android community.

In my opinion yes. The mentioned security expert has a good reputation afaik and he didn't make any things in the past which give me a reason to distrust him.
And in the near future he will work for german commissioner for data protection and freedom of Informationen. So i think he is a trustworthy person.
In the privacy policy on his site for the captive portal check service he writes that no information at all will be logged.
Of course you can ask him directly via e-mail if my words don't soothe you; i can only share my opinion about that guy
Thanks.

Does this still work on Pie?
On my rooted Galaxy Note 10 (Pie, 1st Sept. Patch) it does not.
Btw. there is a typo, should it be "settings put global captive_portal_mode 0"? This is what I tried. If I then check the values by "settings get..." I get
1: 0
2: localhost
3: 0
So the values were taken, but it still tries to connect to captiveportal.kuketz.de or google (whatever I have set). If I block it, I will get the exclamation next to the wifi symbol.

Oh yes you are right. There was a typo. It must be 'settings put global captive_portal_mode 0'.
Now it's corrected. Thanks.
Did you make a reboot after execute the commands?
On my side it works on Pie too. I have a z3 with Lineage 16 and my device doesn't make the check.
When it' still not work after the reboot and the commands are typed in right (=> no issue notification in the terminal comes up) the Samsung stock rom could be the problem.
In that case i would recommend to use kuketz server.

Yes and even after several reboots I get:
adb shell settings get global captive_portal_detection_enabled
0
adb shell settings get global captive_portal_server
localhost
adb shell settings get global captive_portal_mode
0
But, if not opened via script, I can see 185.163.119.132 (kuketz) being blocked by AFWall and the exclamation mark. So I open it with
$IPTABLES -A "afwall" -d 185.163.119.132 -m owner --uid-owner 1000 -p tcp -j ACCEPT
This works but I would prefer no C-P check.
One off-topic question:
Do you have an idea how to open the IP 0.1.0.1:0 in AFWall? It is used for VoLTE, but even I use th script line above (with 0.1.0.1) it still gets blocked. I have to open UID 1000 completely...

You wrote 'adb'. Does it mean that you tried the commands in the adb shell from your Computer with connected phone?
That could explain why it isn't working. The commands must be typed in directly on the phone for deactivation.
I use the App 'Terminal Emulator' from F-Droid for this.
Link: https://f-droid.org/app/jackpal.androidterm
You could try it with that app once more. Apart from that i'm running out of ideas atm.

Get Root Acces for ADB

I've rooted my Samsung Galaxy J5 to access data from an app. When I try to get the data via "adb pull" on my PC, I will be denied access. After some research I found out that i have to assign root rights to the ADB. However, when I run the command "adb root" I get the following error message: "adbd cannot run as root in production builds"
To work around that problem, I installed "adbd insecure" on my smartphone.
[2014.11.10][ROOT] adbd Insecure v2.00 | XDA Developers Forums (xda-developers.com)
But every time the connection between PC and smartphone breaks off as soon as I tick "Enable insecure adbd" and my PC no longer detects my smartphone. Does anyone have any idea why that might be? Or does someone know another way to assign root rights to the ADB? I'm just really desperate and would be happy about any help
Just use Termux and do it with your phone instead. You can grab the app from Google play or fdroid. Alternatively, use a root explorer, navigate right to the app's folder, and copy it wherever you want. Option #2 is the easiest.

By design adb root command works in development builds only (i.e. eng and userdebug which have ro.debuggable=1 by default). Alternatively you could use modified adbd binary (which does not check for ro.debuggable)

Question How to pull Build.Prop...

Here's where I'm at. I've got the system to give me the Mount /System option in recovery, now i just need assistance getting the build.prop pulled to my PC. What's the procedure for pulling the build.prop from the Android to PC via ADB while the system is mounted in recovery? Why am I getting one of these two ADB errors?
Error 1: Connect failed: closed.
error 2: Failed to get feature set: no devices or emulators
OR, am I approaching it wrong?
Thanks in advance,
K0mraid3
you dont need to be in recovery to do it via adb....
adb pull /system/build.prop
that will pull it to where evr you run the adb command
which would be
C;\adb more than likely
or you can choose a destination with
adb pull /system/build.prop c:\buildprop
if you create a folder called "buildprop" in the root directory of c:\
at least thats how i remember doing it many years ago, ive been away for a while at her majesties pleasure, so i cant try it currently as im not rooted

Thanks, so far, its still for some reason denying me permission when OS is booted. So i just cant quite figure out where im supposed to execute these commands, is my issue. I can boot directly to BL from recovery menu, but i can also mount system. i think maybe i need sto send command for r/w.. will try that now.
Another question, when i mount /system in recovery, does that carry over on boot?
no you can re mount system via adb though
Code:
$ adb shell
$ su
# mount -o rw,remount /system

1.Needs root for this command. If he have rooted device then why so much trouble needed. Simply use root explorer to copy
2.Since long Samsung have removed system from proc/mounts still magisk system_root can be used
3.Even with system in mounts you can't do system rw on S22 because of Samsung have implemented extra layer of protection. Even not with magisk system_root too
Indeed as of now there is no method available to make stock system/vendor/product/odm rw on S22 even with root access.

So my device is strange. It doesn't have root, but it indeed shows options in recovery to apply updates from ADB, SD Card aswell as boot directly to BL and to Mount /System, but when I'm booted, the OS is denying me permission to "Su" . I have verified that USB debugging is activated. So I'm trying to see if there's a way to pull the build.prop from Recovery since the Mount /System option is available, but my computer refuses to recognize the device in while in recovery, but easily finds it in Download, BL mode. No FRP lock. No accounts on device. But also no option to unlock bootloader. This device in particular is/was a development sample so I have no clue what the current state of the bootloader etc is in terms of being unlocked prior to me working on it.
It'd also worth noting that this device was loaded with Android 11 when I received it. I'm not kidding. So idk what's going on with this FrankenGalaxy

These options are normal in stock recovery and can be used only for flashing official zip (OTA), To have root access on your recovery, you needs custom one (TWRP) which is in development stage on S22
Without twrp, You needs to root device (must have oem unlock option in development option) to access system files while you are booted to android.
Android 11 on S22? Can you show me screenshot of settings - about phone - software info?

Thanks for the clear answer, that's kind of what I'm working on is trying to gain root access, but like you said, I need oem unlocking, which isn't on this device. So I'm trying to find a backdoor/vulnerability that will take me even one step closer to atleast finding a way to set ro.secure. prop. Something VERY interesting I did find, is that if you put the device to Debug medium or high via device keystring activity, and play with the key combos, you can get booted into a mode called RDX, if you plug it into your dev system with the right drivers, it's treats the phone as if it were a Disk and shows a bunch of VZW upgrade software ment for PCs. I've installed it but haven't got it working quite yett.
No idea what you have shown in screenshot, I'd asked something else.

Maybe Heindall will give me better results. I just refuse to believe the manufacturers have outsmarted us all on this.
