Looking for a custom rom for my 8T (Tmobile) [guidance needed] - OnePlus 8T Questions & Answers

Hey everyone,
I haven't flashed ROMs since my Nexus 6P. I'm a bit rusty with it, so I just need some help. I have a onplus 8t (tmobile variant) and I am looking to flash a custom rom on it. Why? A few reasons... Tmobile's updates are a bit slow and I would just like a different experience.
The main things I am looking for are: Updates, stability, customization and battery.
I looked around a bit and was thinking either Havoc or crDroid. What do you think?
I remember there used to be an issue with banking apps on custom ROMs. Is that still a thing? How can I get past that?

Stick with stock or go custom?

Hi everyone, just picked up my Mate 9(MHA-L29 C567) about a few days ago, I love this device already, everything from the build to the software(ROM).
However I am pretty stumped on the fact that the custom rom development lacks for this phone but I see a few ROMs that are debloated n what not, i see that unlocking the BL and flashing is a bit more different than what I dealt with in the past. Mind you I was a flashaholic for all the phones I have owned
My question to everyone here is, is it wise to stick with just the stock ROM or should I go and flash a debloated ROM? Has anyone noticed any differences at all(Battery, SOT, Speed etc)? Rooting and all that can be done but I just dont know if its worth flashing since Ive noticed the ROM dates on these are a bit dated and nothing much has changed
I used to root my phones and use custom ROMs in the past. Matter of fact, at times I flash a different custom ROM every week.
But since I noticed the ambiguity in rooting this phone, the rate at which people where bricking (sometimes need to pay FH to be rescued), lack of development but most importantly, the phone is quite fast and UI isn't too bad, I decided to save myself the headache.

Same here I was heavily into flashing ROMs and rooting my devices not even 24 hrs of ownership, but with me looking up the process of just even rooting the phone really concerns me with the amount of bricks I am seeing, and yes the phone and UI is already top notch
I added a poll for everyone to vote for
I think this thing stock is pretty good. Just got this a few days ago (MHA-L29 C567) and I'm coming from a Note 4. This thing is freaking fast as it is. Any bloat I disabled/uninstalled if it would let me. I to am a total flashaholic, but with this I feel theres no need. As long as Huawei gets some updates going through the pipes I'm happy with this thing!

Same here, i uninstalled/disabled unnecessary apps, still very snappy, even from day 1 it was fast
I hope so too about Huawei sending out updates, if we get Oreo I'll be set till the Mate 11 or whatever Huawei is going to provide

It should see at least one major upgrade I would think. I mean it's a flagship and just under a year old
Stick with stock
I would flash a custom rom if it was easy just for fun... But I am happy with it
First phone I haven't rooted - there are a few tweaks I'd like, and a few apps I'd like to uninstall, but apart from those minor issues this phone is a gem.
(yet another Note 4 user)
Stick with stock. Root and uninstalling unwanted apps are pretty easy.
I flashed custom rom however I think the stock rom is very good and has better battery life. I flash custom rom just for fun and I like the extra function of KangVip apk.
ok i am flashaholic
unlocked, root, twrp and flashed two roms from here (RomAur and Ephemeral Mate 9) but they ****ed up my M9 (bootloop and lot of other s..t) then back to stock then all again then rebrand, then Firedance rom for L29, then next ver., then next, then rebrand back to L09 then flashed Firedance-MHA-L09C432B194 from other forum and thats a winner
now waiting for next ver.
I was also a flashaholic once upon a time. This is the first device I have not rooted. I feel the stock experience has taken on a new life, things that we used to root for are now becoming part of the stock system. The only thing I wish I could have is a system wide add blocker. I know there are ways to do this without root (and I'm using them) but the root variants are better.
Nevertheless, keep this thing stock, don't root, use the heck out of it and don't think about it. [emoji3]

By the way, for the US C567 there is a new Beta build out, B230.

I'm on C567B190 with TWRP and Root.
Can I flash B230 without losing data and root?

I suppose you can flash it and keep root if you pre root it and package it as a flashable zip. As far as keeping data, I don't think so.

for all those that say that emui is better than........... well..... anything else, thats just wrong. i had this phone for about a week and i sold it asap. i bought it off ebay for a real cheap price. i fixed the cracked screen and found someone at school that wanted it. emui is just bad. its not as bad 4.0 and what not but its still horrible.
its far too modified to be of any use. if huawei just added their own bloat and "optimizations" without the UI crippling it would be okay. as it is one cant add any quick tiles which is horrible. almost all other oems dont cripple android to the same extent as huawei.
sadly the mate 9 has no custom roms and it looks like it will never have them so its not viable choice. i dont see that changing anytime soon.
The first android that I haven't rooted.
I'm using blokada to block ads which is working pretty well but I wish there was a way of deleting some of the stock apps (especially the calendar) or at the very least deactivating them so they didn't come back.

That's exactly what I would be looking to do too, Allan on a C567 (well currently that anyway, rebranded). Let me know if you have any luck doing it.

Best custom ROM for Nord?

Hello,
I've decided to try out a custom ROM, not because I hate OxygenOS11 but just looking for a new experience. Once I got the phone I upgraded immediately to Android 11 but then I saw (and still see) a lot of people swearing by OxygenOS Android 10. Is it worth it to downgrade? What would I lose from V11?
And my main question is for those who tried them, which custom ROM is best for you and why?

I've used Oxygen OS for like 6 months after I got the Nord. Then I moved to Pixel Experience Plus based on A11. Worked fine, but it is discontinued now and they have started with A12. Used it for a while, everything worked fine, some minor bluetooth issues (not sure why), small bugs which you won't notice initially and they aren't a deal breaker.
Now I've switched to Proton KnockOff ROM, everything is fine. Minor UI jitters while locking sometimes. No major bugs faced so far. Also tried Project Radiant Unofficial Build (works fine though).
My final thoughts:
If you want clean pixel phone feel and no customization then Pixel Experience A12 is the way to go.
Plus, this ROM has OTA updates enabled.
If you want some customization and overall good performance and you don't mind unofficial builds then Project Radiant is worth trying.
If you want good performance and tons of customization then I'd say Proton will be a good idea.
NOTE: All the ROMs above are A12 based, I used them without root and the same Kernel it came shipped with.
Try different GCams because some of them lag and even crash many a times, I'd say go with BSG GCam or Urnyx05.
Thank you so much for your comprehensive response, much appreciated. I'll also post here my own findings after testing.

Different stock rom or custom rom for better overall experience?

Hi guys,
I’ve been using google pixel devices on and off over the years and finally got a second hand Pixel 4a last week. I immediately flashed latest stock 12 thinking that it’s the best with battery life which is apparently not. So I’m thinking of flashing a custom ROM or downgrade to different stock android version. I’ve seen that stock android 11 is overall good for 4a. Is it true? Or is there any good stock/custom ROM that is good with device? As I said, I don’t mind downgrading
TIA

To each there own when it comes different ROMs, I just started using this phone and I stayed on 12 so I've used all the 12 ROMs available, some have a lot of features available and others not so many, u can usually tell from the op post what your getting by reading the description,, iam currently on lineage 19 which I like for its simplicity, ,( i dont use alot of the features) you will probably find your own bugs in each ROM, everyone's different it seems, so my advice is to try them all,

Not really, to be honest some ( not all ) are bad as far as response , smoothness, gestures. But most are quite good. I think the biggest selling point is the vast amount of new features they offer such as CR Droid. What makes it for me is if I get bored with one I can switch , right now I am on beta 3 and it's pretty good. Once again the only way to know is to start flashing. Hth

Question Where are all the Custom ROMs?

There's a lot of custom ROMs out there on Telegram for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro but may someone direct me to where I can find all these ROMs? It used to be so easy finding ROMs and kernels on XDA but now devs moved away from it. Everything is buried under various chat groups on Telegram and it's honestly a pain trying to find them. So far, I know the following custom ROMs exist somewhere on the Internet:
CrDroid
LineageOS
SparkOS
HentaiOS
StatixOS
SuperiorOS
Most have moved to using Telegram for announcing. Google Pixel 7/7 Pro Updates, is the channel where you will find the d/l links. GL!
Yeah I stopped trusting custom ROMs since the HTC days. When they finally get everything working and all the kinks out im onto the next phone.

Battling the bugs That's half of the fun
Beggars can't be choosers. But my biggest issue with custom ROM's is that the devs never finish anything.
As soon as the next version of Android comes out, they move to that one instead of fixing the remaining issues with the previous Android version custom ROM.
I'd much rather have a ROM that just "works" without any weird random glitches.

Because the majority of 'devs' today are simply kangers who cherry pick a handful commits and call it a day. True devs are very few and far between.
Also, changes to the Android architecture and other security improvements have generally made the custom rom scene much less appealing with fairly significant downsides.
I miss the 2010-2012 days of Android.
I used custom ROMS for years, particularly on the old Galaxy phones with Cyanogenmod to get rid of Touchwiz.
However, given the vanilla nature of Pixel phones, I don't really see the point of them on these devices unless you really want to avoid Google's framework. It's all personal choice though, but speaking personally I'm more than happy with stock, albeit rooted.

Fact!! Me too, when I was very active in the Dev scene, here and on the old SDX-Developers site but really, those ROM's focused mostly on customizing and removing bloatware. Custom Boot screens, fonts, colors, embedded logos, etc and other than the guys who were developing kernels - which don't require custom ROMs - and the early development of ARM and EXT4, customizing can be done with stand-alone apps now, and with Pixel phones, there is no real bloatware.
The only thing I really wish for is Recovery. I'm still blown away that the TWRP Project more or less abandoned the project over the last few years.
Can't speak for the pixel 7 pro, but I used custom roms basically the whole time I had a smartphone.
The last years it was for Xiaomi phones and on those I wanted them badly to get rid of muiu and/or the stock installation.
On my last phone (mi 9t) the roms / TWRP got so annoying that I bought the 7pro. Honestly the mist was fine for me. I wanted a better camera, but everything else was fine by me. The roms though weren't bearable anymore.
I switched to pixel to avoid those ... Stock it is. I didn't even root it, as lately I only used root for blocking adds and for that there are other ways ...

CWM and TWRP are a god send in the custom ROM world. I think part of the reason the project got abandoned is due to Google locking down Android. I can't even remove system apps now.

Yeah, true. The best option is to freeze them, and then find a mod to hide them. Another funny thing is that if you ran AOSP, it was like being a computer user that uses Linux instead of windows. Like me lol!
@Poerger the funny thing is the last custom ROMS I ran were on the Nexus 6, and I was part of a development team that was porting over MIUI. Lol. That was my preferred set up on several phones.

Question Plan to get a new Pixel 7 Pro

Hi all
I plan to get a Pixel 7 Pro pretty soon.
Decided to go for it as the added telephoto lens could be useful even if I don't take photos much. How has the camera been in your expereince?
I also plan to use custom ROM on it. Have any suggestions for those? I may want to use Google Pay with it. Graphine does seem nice for the privacy angle though
P7P has one of the best cameras on the market no doubt.
Stock firmware is missing nothing, for anything else there is aosp mods.
I dont know of any custom rom that will not let you use gpay.
I dont like the battery drain of the p7p but i dont know any phone where i like it tbh.

Yeah I always wondered why one would use a custom ROM on the best android phone in the world when it comes to software pixel exclusives.
I've stated this many times but using other devices I needed root and custom ROMs to keep the device going past the original manufacturer life cycle, in these days a new phone comes out every 9 months.
Pixel/Nexus/Samsung/Google keeps the devices software updated at least 3 years.
Security is priority for me should be for everyone..
Lastly, I want to root just to install a custom kernel but always running stock android on Pixels.
I haven't seen or heard any one say a custom ROM ran better in three years than stock pixel.
After Google drops support then custom ROMs are needed imo...

Keep those and add a bit. I really would hate to lack network monitor, skip track for music, and battery being a circle. Why does google not do this? The code is out and open, they just would have to merge.

Stock is fine, those features I referred to are not in stock though. You can root and use AOSPmods or something to get features, but I feel a custom rom with the features you want integrated is always the better choice. There is a thread about custom roms you could take a look at.
Mint has a deal for the 7pro. $689, 12 month service with 6 months free. I saw somewhere when researching about a Japan version being received by some ppl. I am on T-Mobile and tested mint on my tablet. No difference or issues I could see. Just a bit concerned with the model they have. Looking around I didn't see anyone else this low. I can do the mint deal @ $58 a month, get a Pixel phone and come out cheaper cause T-Mobile is $70 a month. really a no brainier, and I have wanted a Pixel phone for last 2 phones but couldn't handle the price. So anyone have an issue w getting a foreign model and mint mobile?

Custom ROMs
Hey all the custom ROMers here. I hope you all are doing great. What ROM you are currently running on your P7/P7P and why? I'm pretty new to android root scene and looking forward to install custom ROM on my P7. Any answers would be appreciated!!
