General [Updated] Terrible battery life and charging speeds...perhaps not! - Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

I can't believe that such a perfect watch is let down by such a terrible battery situation. Dies in 20hrs if you use all the bells and whistles (an hour of lte on standby, streaming Spotify on lte to a bt headset, an hour of fitness activity) and then regular usage with connection to phone over bt, no aod and raise to wake.
20 hours if I'm lucky....end up having to charge a couple times a day. I'm alright doing this....but......
The charging time...geez, 2 hours for full charge is ridiculous. Give me a wired charging setup which takes half the time, I'd be happier.
Unfortunately, I love the watch too much....and a daily price I'll be paying for it. Hope they'll fix this $h1t with better software.

Here the same in Indian Version Galaxy watch 4 LTE Classic. I love the watch but terrible battery life. I don't know why they are
giving these many features and a little battery. The battery wont last for going thru all the features. Sleep tracking also eating
my battery a lot. One night it consumes more than 15% for sleep tracking. Now I am using the LTE always OFF. This gives a
little battery more. Watch is having these many features and always I have to OFF all the features. What is the point in giving
this much money.

Dreamtheater, what version of watch do you have? Is it a LTE version? I'm always curious about these posts about poor battery time. I have the classic 46 mm and it is rare that a charge lasts less than 2 days. The only time I have less than 2 days is when I'm using GPS frequently. I'm probably doing a workout every other day and I have all functionality on. I typically walk 5,000 - 7,000 steps a day. Using bedtime mode when I sleep (blood oxygen off). I only use bluetooth for conectivity.

Analysing what's eating up most of my battery life - it's Spotify, took down a whopping 18% bite out of it....a 1 hour run on LTE with music streaming to my bt headphones...
I wish it would have been less power hungry....will try YouTube music with offline downloads and try

It's been giving me a decent battery life, with continuous heart rate detection on and AOD off.

*Sigh* Coming from my Gear S3, with which I get a solid 3+ days of battery life, I find it positively depressing that this is considered 'decent' battery life now...

I'm on my 4th power cycle, have the watch for few days
I can confirm Spotify defiantly drains the battery even when noting is playing.
I was listening to Spotify yesterday evening before charging the watch, after the watch reach 100% I've put it on my wrist and went to sleep with sleep tracking and no playing music.
when I woke up I saw the big drain during the night about 22% - thought it was the sleep tracking so I've open the battery stats just to found that Spotify drain my battery by 5% during the night just by running in the background on the watch - very annoying.
all the time I need to close background apps so noting drain the battery while not in use.
Regardless, for battery optimization I can add that the NFC for unknown reason make the hourly drain harder
(3% per hour.. while it's not even logged in the battery stats)
for reference I've got the 42mm BT only classic model
and my wife has the 40mm regular BT only model.
her watch drained slower and that is way I've notice the NFC drain mentioned -
on my watch it was ON and on her watch it was OFF and her watch lost only 1% per hour while watch is on the wrist but not in use and mine lost 3-4% per hour... after I've turned it OFF the hourly drain went down.
my watch last about 24 hours (no AOD, no WIFI, no NFC, no GPS, few notification, no workouts, about two hours of Spotify listening)
I really hope Samsung and Google are working hard on battery optimization,
and with additional third party apps optimization we will soon see better battery life overall.
I can live with two days - two days of battery would be great.
(my previous watch was Garmin not so smartwatch but at least the battery last 10 days with no sweat)

Fair enough...

Otro totalmente decepcionado. Para qué sirve este reloj si lo tengo que llevar todo apagado para que me dure la batería un día? El mío es 46mm LTE. Me gustaba más mi watch 1 que me duraba la batería 5 días.

In all the watches and fitness bands I always had to make a battery downgrade which is really frustrating. I started with a Miband which had two weeks battery but it wasn't a full fledged smartwatch but fullfilled my needs. Then I had a Vector which had like one month of battery life (eInk, no GPS, no Touch) I just needed it for notifications and weather. Then fitbit bought vector which was then bought by google and the watch apps slowly died.
Then I got my first "full fledged" smartwatch with the Galaxy Watch 1 which had around a week of battery life (BT Version 46mm) And now I am down to two days MAX. It's really really sad because like all the other posters here, I love the watch.

I know how you feel, which is why I hesitate to upgrade from my Gear S3, BUT, to be fair, that's still more than double the battery life of the world's most popular line of smartwatches - just sayin'...

Alright, looks like i figured what was killing my battery - it's spotify with streamed music over LTE! and allowing spotify to live in the background (need to force stop spotify when you're done using it!)
attached images - 5pm to 7pm > 74% to 26% with just spotify on lte!
Otherwise looks like it hits the 40hrs estimate

I haven't read every post in this thread, but overall I'm pretty satisfied with my LTE GW4. Coming from a Watch Active 2 (non-LTE) where I took it off the charger at 6:30am and put it on again at 11pm and still had 40-50% battery left, I'm seeing the almost exactly the same battery life on my LTE GW4 with the same average use. I rarely use LTE, and in fact only just learned after a while that it wasn't even properly linked to my account. Walked to another building today for lunch at work and forgot my phone and the watch finally jumped to LTE on its own and showed a VOLTE icon while away from my phone. It was like that for at least an hour and FINALLY no overheating or "Emergency Calls Only". Battery didn't take much of a hit since I'm at 55% right now at about 6:45pm.

Slowly turning on features back on and seeing how it affects battery life. I'm happy that having continuous heart rate monitoring has minimal impact on battery life! Sleep tracking (no spo2), continuous HR tracking, 10hrs overnight and at 85% battery - impressive!

What about this setting?

Does this hint with Media Cotnrol work for anybody? I put Show media controls to Off (the same when set via Wearable app, also did several restarts to be sure), however watch activates media controls immediately once Youtube is launched on phone... - seems like a bug to me

Battery

What kind of use are people getting out of their OneS batteries?
I've had my phone for just under a week and have run it through 3 or 4 full charge/discharge cycles.
Phone is running stock firmware. Last charge lasted ~36 hours with the screen using the most power.
I'd be interested to know what other people are seeing?
I get around 18 - 24 hours battery, depending on how i use it...
Battery life is epic on this phone Ive yet to see someone complain about it

Yup. Turn it off.
im have an imported international one s on att in nyc and i only get maybe 10-12 hours i use it fairly oftern but no videos or calls. i get no where near 24 or even 18 hours like i need.
12-20 hours.
That includes about 2 hours of off-screen streaming while commuting, 8-10 hours WiFi on, 2-4 hours games and surfing, 10-15 minutes calls and a dozen or so messages.
My last charge was at about 25% after 16 hours, and usage pattern as described. Screen is on auto brightness and consuming about 60%.
Anyone else? My battery life is exceptionally bad took the phone with me to the park 4hrs of listening to music with maybe an hours worth of web browsing and 30 of those minutes taking pictures the phone is dead

That doesn't strike me as exceptionally bad but rather merely less than average. An hour of web browsing is going to use a lot of battery in itself. Do you use the Beats enhancements too when listening to music? Bet that drains some battery.
its exceptionally bad in comparison to what everyone e else is reporting about this phone. and the battery is one of the reasons i chose this over the one x. my phone also keeps switching between h and 3g. im on ATT on an imported MAO
First charge and usage was; A few texts, 10-20 min of video, fair amount of browsing, installing lots of apps, tweaking and changing everything about, GPS, camera etc. and brightness was at 70-85% brightness for about 1-2 hours and dropped to 50% for the rest of the time, however, I didn't have my SIM in for the first hour of use (testing the mobile first to make sure it worked ok), wifi was on constantly as well.
Second charge and usage was; the same as above but a fair bit more browsing was done and a few games (angry birds and ROM emulators) and brightness was at 50% the entire time, plus this time the SIM was in for the entire time.

really good battery life, after a day of calls, bit of gaming, couple camera shots, with sync on, fb etc, battery is at 50% - 60% ,
I reckon i could get 2 days easy if i was economical, but 1 day easy with heavy use.
The screen will always have the highest usage so really battery stats are somewhat useless without sharing screen on time..

I highly, highly doubt that. Beats, correct me if I'm wrong, is just an "improvement" of the audio frequencies. An automagical DSP.
Without particularly trying to save power my battery is lasting 36 hours or so.
By far the biggest drain is the screen, currently at 65% of power drawn. Wifi is second with 7%. Considering that wifi has been on more or less constantly for the period this is pretty impressive.
I could probably push battery life to 2 days if I replaced live wallpaper with black background and reduced screen brightness generally. It's hard to know what else to do though.

There has to be some processing going on somewhere, that was my logic. Happy to stand corrected tho.
I got question regarding to battery and charging...
How it would affect battery, if I would charge it every day while driving 1h (it wont get fully charged if empty). Would it affect it badly in time?
i get about down to 30-35% at the end of the day with light web use, gmail, maybe a short phone call, and a bit of GPRS hunting when the signal is not that good. I just installed the power manager to see if there is any real use of it...
Mate...I've always disputed the battery andusic thing..your guaranteed to run out faster..I know it has that function and beats etc..but I pods or mp3 players do a much better job in every department and don't waste your phone battery. I'm getting a day and a half and I'm a fairly heavy user..I play the odd game. Text a lot to my wife lol..and surf the web. Its all about what your using...
One plus side..I use free beats earphones on my iPod and it sounds fing amazing.

Light use endurance

Once in a while, when your significant other yells at you, you might use your phone a bit less. Rate this thread to express how the Google Pixel 2 XL's battery performs under light use. A higher rating indicates that the device goes a long time when you're using the phone sparingly: no gaming or video/audio streaming, light web browsing, some calling and texts, etc.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Out and about (LTE/cell service only) - 13%/hour
At home on Wifi - 6-7%/hour
21h with 4h screen on, 40% left
With what I would consider light usage (email, web browsing, messaging, lots of YouTube) I have really been impressed with the battery life! Over 8hrs screen on time with my first few cycles so far. Based on this, I'm guessing that even with heavier usage (games, etc.) that I would still be pretty happy with the longevity. With very similar usage I was getting around 4-5hrs SOT on my original Pixel XL and was happy with it. Interested to hear how the battery has been for others as well.
I've been very happy. Last night I forgot to charge so I woke up with 48% battery. I plugged in for 25 minutes while getting ready for work. Left the house with 87%. Now, 9 hours later, I have had 2 hours screen on time of mixed wifi/LTE, browsing, email, Facebook, texting, a few pictures and a little YouTube. 20% brightness. Location set to high accuracy, Now Playing turned on, AOD off, Google account sync on. I am at 65%. That's a drain of 22%. Under the same conditions and usage my Nexus 5X would have drained over 40%.
This is the first smartphone I've had (I've had a Nexus One, Galaxy SII, Nexus 5, Nexus 5X and now Pixel 2 XL) that I can say that the battery life is GREAT.

This phone is ridiculous. I haven't charged it since Monday...
I won't pretend I'm a "heavy usage" person with my phone. But I've never been able to get 2 full days of usage from any of my previous phones. Most of them barely lasted 24 hours. This one is going to reach 48+ hours, easy.
I work from home full time so I'm connected to my home wifi almost all the time, which helps. I get out of the house a total of 2-3 hours a day to walk the dog, go to the gym, or meet clients for lunch. So during that time it's on full LTE with no wifi. I tend to use the phone for 2-3 client calls per day (30-60 minutes each while paired with my bluetooth headphones), listening to music at the gym (~60 minutes while paired with my bluetooth headphones), some light usage of social networking apps and Youtube videos throughout the day.
I know battery life consists of a large amount of factors but it's safe to say that with the same usage, this phone outlasts all my previous phones by at least 1.5x. It's fantastic.
Battery life sucks now compared to pre-February security patch.
Light endurance usage: 15% brightness w/auto brightness off just browsing, Facebook and a little texting on wifi. That's no games, Bluetooth off, Location on high accuracy but not doing much (ie no Maps navigation), no video, no music, no camera, no phone calls etc.
Pre February security update:
Screen on: ~10%/hr
Stand by: ~0.3333%/hr
Best battery life: 9 hours SOT over 1 day, 16 hours off the charger
Now (after February and March security updates):
Screen on: ~15%/hr
Stand by: ~0.5%/hr
Best battery life: 6 hours SOT over 1 day off the charger
Stand by battery drain up like 60% and SOT battery drain up like 50%. Very disappointing for a phone that is only 5 months old. If I break it down to a per mAh it's now no better than my Nexus 5X.
After first charge I am getting 2%/h standby drain, hope things will improve
SOT and idle drain still holding strong for my usage patterns. April update + root + Flash kernel. Not a social media user, and don't use many power/ram intensive apps :good:

No one listens to music offline only anymore ?
What is the battery consumption e.g. with PowerAMP (or similar players) and listening to music for several hours like in battery % ?
Thanks
Not me. I stream my music and play over Bluetooth. But for reference, the Nexus 6P was rated at 100 hours. So I doubt the Pixel 2 XL would be any worse.

I listen to music offline. For the first several months of having the phone I could play over Bluetooth and I'd use about 7% per hour. Playing over a wired connection used 4% per hour. Now it's like 8% per hour over a wired connection and 12% per hour over Bluetooth. Damn monthly updates.

Compared to what it was for the 1st 3 months, yeah, that's bad. Maybe he never experienced how good battery life was before several of the updates so he doesn't really have a basis for comparison. Like I said, with the same time off the charger and screen on time I have about the same 20% battery left as well but for the first few months that same off the charger and screen on time left me with about 50% left. Draining almost 30% battery for the same use just a few months later is a big deal. Oh, and that's after trying a factory reset which at first (about a half a day) seemed like it helped but quickly showed that it didn't help at all.
What you were getting for the first three months was remarkable for sure but wasn't what everyone gets. Like a lot of things battery life has a bell curve and you were just on the extreme right of it. Now you're "only" getting what the majority, middle part of the bell is getting and unhappy with it. Still doesn't mean it's bad. Now it's just average.

Battery life

Hi. I've pre ordered the moto one vision yesterday, basicly out of curiosity about a moto running on Samsung Exynos 9609 soc.
I have a motorola one already which is built on Qualcomm msm8953 and battery is great on that device.
How's the battery holding up on Moto One Vision, concidering it only has a 3500 mAh battery and a 6"+ screen, 48MP cam etc?
I kind of feel like the battery is a bit undersized for this device, but I may be wrong.
Please comment about your battery experience below, or fill in with questions about battery.
Fully charged yesterday, today still i have 81%
After the first charging: 5,5h SOT and still about 22% was avalible. Not bad.
i bought it last Friday, charged twice since then, i have an impression of battery drain, but i think it's because i just use it more often, just like every phone while it's new
Thanks everyone for your replies. Maybe it's not as bad as I thought after all.
Please continue with replies and / or questions about battery.
I read somewhere that Motorola One has great battery back-up!
today, here confirmed !
For me, 1,5 days
As it's said... a picture worth a thousand words...
Here's what AccuBattery says about my One Vision.
I use it mainly to Instagram and some youtube (light usage on that one). Whatsapp and Google Maps.
(#1 - @81% it would last: 19h and half combined use, 7h with screen on, 24h on standby)

Battery Life Opinion
I just bought Motorola One Vision, but I´m concerned about battery life (while waiting for the cell phone to be delivered for me). I saw some reviews tellign that battery life is poor , and some telling that battery life is OK (1 day - 20 hours - normal use). Can anyone tell me if for a normal user like me that don´t play games in the cell phone, just use social networks, and a little of youtube the battery lasts at least from 6 AM to 11 PM? (my normal daily use)? I´m in doubt since there are people telling the battery life is good (one day and a half) and some people are telling that battery lasts only 6 to 10 hours. Which one is true? If someone have a trusted review, please share.
Thanks!
I've had the One Vision for 3 weeks now and have no problems with battery life.
I get around 6-7 hours of SOT.
I 'm what you would call a normal user like yourself.
Battery seems drain fast took of charger 100% 6:45am took couple photos in garden checked FB/ Twitter emails 7:10am 93% , this could boil down to fact it's had one full charge over night since getting and may settle etc in few days this is with latest update with June security , hope future updates can improve battery and camera

Wheras i could still get 2days of use out of my G5s+ , i have the impression the Vision just drains really fast. Maybe i'm just using it more because it's new ? I don't really have that impression though.

Just like you - sort've...
I'm considering getting either the 'Moto G7 plus' or 'Moto One vision' .
At first I thought I was going down the 'Vision' route due to 'better specs' - until I started reading about 'poor battery drain' despite having a 3500mAh battery
My current phone 'only' has a 3000Mah with 5.2" screen that with my [very] light usage it'll last the day with still ~35-50% battery left over (depending if I get bored @ work & play a game or 2)
I mainly only have phone for emergency, some occasional game playing (subway surfer etc - no 3d intensive gaming) & music listening (not into watching videos on a phone or social media usually) - so 'screen on' time is usually pretty low - & would also like to hear 'real life' reviews of how long the battery does last

I've it for one month and for me the battery usage is ok. I go to work at 7 am, and I put it on charge at 10 pm with 40~30% of battery which for my use is ok. I noticed that if I play a game for 40 min or play a video for around 30~40 minutes the battery is at 10% at 10 pm. So my verdict is that for a user that don't play games/watch videos a lot, the battery can stand a day and ends up with 40%, but if you like to play then maybe you should consider another option.. My guess is that the battery drain is due to the screen... The good points are the screen is very good and Android is very fast and good (I had a Samsung A50 before).

Yeah sort of guessed the screen may play a big part in battery drain... Larger Screen needs more power to display,
Those that check their Twitbook accounts ever few minutes may be the ones that complain about fast battery drain the most, although I have seen some personnal reviews about battery loss overnight when left alone
Some have said that it's 99% when they go to bed but when they wake up it's down to ~80% (I assume it's like 10pm to 7am), which surely can't be because of the screen .. I assume this is because of overnight syncing issues from social apps running in background etc.
Since (I'm led to believe) the vision is 'pure android' - no bloat (apart from a couple of additional moto apps - I think) I guess as long as I disable all auto sync apps & not have too many app installed running in background (I mainly only have Sophos Security [Antivirus etc] & Tasker [For 'While in zone change volumes etc]) I should get less drain overnight.... In theory
It's a mostly pure android experience. I'm not a heavy social media user. Here are some screen shots. I unhook at 545am and I'm on 20% at 10pmView attachment 4803617

For me it's ok drive regardless of the battery % at night I always charge it overnight, so it's fine for my use.
Hi, my moto on vision after two weeks...

50hs total and 4hs 37min sot
My phone has SOT (at 63% birghtness) around 5-6 hours and with normal usage it lasts about two days.
But I'd recommend having a charger nearby. After 40-ish hours I still had 25-30% battery.

Yeah Im having a same experience as you ,5 to 6 hours of SOT is typically what I get when using wifi, lop off an hour when using LTE though.

Question Battery Life on both Galaxy Watch 4 44mm and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic 46mm

Hi all
As of now there's not much videos or topics around the battery life of the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 classic beside knowing that the smaller of size of each model will have a smaller battery life since they sport a smaller battery.
Galaxy Watch 4 44mm and Galaxy Watch 4 classic 46 mm both have the same battery, but since their size is different, I assume that the regular Galaxy Watch 4 44mm has a slicely better battery life.
What are your thoughts ?
The screen is the same so battery life is the same. Around 2 days on light use and 1 day with heavy use.
I agree with davigar. I have a classic 46mm. Not running wifi (only bluetooth) and I'm getting about 2 days with no workouts or gps. This is with notifications on with gmail and texts but that is it. Doing workouts and/or gps about a day and a half. Coming from Galaxy Watch (1) which was 4 - 5 days with mixed use. I was very concerned with battery time going to this watch but the added features, better display, better and faster processor, and not being as bulky has won me over. This really is a superbly designed watch. Very happy so far.

Nice ! I just ordered yesterday! Galaxy watch 4 classic. Well i had the Galaxy Gear S3 and with the usage I had the battery life was like a day and a half also so... I probably won't feel any problem regarding the battery life based on both of your feedbacks. That's good to know !
I confirm. 2 days of light usage.
I also have a 46mm GW4C and i get just under 2 days with moderate usage, bt on , screen brightness at 90% , 20-30min navigation a day, all notifications
I think that the battery life is pretty poor. I have the classic LTE. If I do one hour of cycling as a standalone device using the health app and of course GPS, and then walk for an hour, same settings as I don't want to take a phone with me, I found the battery almost completely drained. So using lte, and gps, and the health app, which is the purpose I bought this, while exercising for a not too long period of time, drains it and is very disappointing to me. I had the Galaxy watch 3 and did not have this issue. Also the Apple watch 5 with no issue.
I also find that while it is wonderful to have a browser on the watch, when used as a standalone to listen to streaming radio the device overheats after only 5 or 6 minutes. It literally goes into airplane mode.
Knowing samsung, they will fix this in updates but I hate paying to be their r&d.
I think this watch looks great and most of the software works flawlessly, but if you are planning to use this for serious exercise as a standalone then you may be disappointed by the battery life.
Brilliant watch, but disappointing that the battery life is not a but better - made even harder because it doesn't charge on most wireless chargers....
Does anybody know the impact on battery life of;
1. Wifi - if it does impact noticeably is it needed if you have Bluetooth on and have the lte version with esim activated?
2. Continuous HR monitoring as opposed to every 10 minutes
When you start to monitor an activity - does the 10 minute HR monitoring automatically change to continuous?

Don't know for sure about the first two, but as to your last question, the answer is yes - in fact, when monitoring an activity, you should be able to scroll over to see the continuous heart rate readout.
I'm actually fine with the battery life of my 46mm Classic. It does seem to have settled down, and I eliminate or limit the use of battery hogging features and apps. I can get two days - which means I'm solid for a full day (24 hours - not Apple's 'full day' of 18), and that's fine by me (even coming from a Gear S3 that got 3+ days).
Don't forget, this watch does a lot more, we are now on Wear OS3 which brings significant advantages (and, of course, some disadvantages), and it gets more than twice the battery life of the supposed world's best smartwatch (I'm looking at you, The Verge).
Battery life is pretty good in my Galaxy watch 4 Classic, I charge it 3 days once and the only problem is that sometimes the watch doesn't connect properly to my phone.
Battery is fair on my Galaxy watch 4, especially since I use LTE and activities apps a lot...
2 days with LTE turned off (my carrier doesnt do eSIMs) but with everything esle one (including GPS) near as makes no difference the same usage as my previous Active 2 here.
What did alarm me (and prolly alarms new users) was the first days shocking battery usage...that first day i was worried id made a bad choice and was ready to go back to my Active 2...give it a day or two and it sorts itself out.
I wouldnt be without it now...being able to snooze or dismiss an alarm set on phone without having to scramble for the phone is wiorth it alone
GW4 46mm Classic. Note that this is with a lot of standby time over the last few days (watch just sitting on my table). Still, I can get a solid two days in normal use, and I am very pleased with the standby drain:

And an update, after a few more hours of sitting on my table - crazy good standby time (DUJA software version):
Here are some tips and tricks to improve battery life of your Galaxy watch 4 (classic) :

Question Watch 4 stand-by battery drain

Why don't the stats add up? What else is taking battery but not being shown here? And is the overnight battery drain normal? It's just put on the table, not worn at night.

It is normal for it to consume energy at night, if you do not use the phone at night a few percent will also escape
if your battery life is low, you can try to "optimise" it (there are various tools for this on the forum)
kind regards

At night... While sleeping... So phone is not used at all... And yet the watch drains battery.
I don't know the battery lasts about a day on watch 4
and you have to charge it more or less every day
regards
I charge my gw4c in late evening, wear it before I go to bed and by the next late evening I have abt 55%. I do charge it almost every day because I know it might not make it for two full days. Heart rate/stress/snore detection set to always and blood oxygen measuring during sleep to on.

I too
I got GW5 Pro and I was also wondering why the battery usage doesn't add up. For some reason it doesn't show every apps battery consumption. I was able to find some apps that didn't show up on mine, but used some amount of battery. Usage still doesn't add up but gets closer.
On your phone open wear manager and go to watch settings and then apps. Now go through every app on that list one by one and check battery usage there.
For me Find My Mobile, Settings and Samsung text-to-speech engine shows 5% (I'm at 26% battery now) battery usage for every of those app, yet none of them are listen in apps shown at battery usage page.

That is normal. The watch is still "running" even if not on your wrist and with the screen off and idle. It is still connected to your phone and communicating some. The drain might not be a lot , but it will still use some power.

So 2% an hour idle drain is fine for this watch?

Not if it is off your wrist it isn't. My drain rate, off my wrist, with WiFi off (BT on), sitting a foot from my phone, is about 0.6% per hour.

How to even figure what's causing the drain since the battery stats don't even add up to 100? Also I noticed when placed on a dark surface, the battery drain is higher. When placed on a white surface, drain is on the lower side...

It isn't easy.
For one, it is important to store the off-wrist watch on its side or up-side-down. That is what I do. Since I have AOD on, it is often necessary to keep the display off. But it also stops the watch from trying to measure heart-rate/etc. Store it near the phone, so the signal to the phone is strong and it doesn't have to expend as much energy (assuming it ramps up/down for transmission power). Reboot the watch once in a while (I do at least once a month; I have my Samsung phone set to reboot each Sun). I am not sure what other apps or systems installed will affect battery life. I don't have Samsung health thing running, since I don't care about it.
Battery stats never add up. Not on the watch or any Android device I have ever seen.
If you use and recharge the watch (or any modern device) very often, as it gets older, the battery indicator will become less and less accurate, overstating or understating drain/remaining life. At that point, a recalibration is helpful (drain it COMPLETELY until dead and shuts itself off, charge it fully. Might require a repeat).

Well, it has bedtime mode on, so AOD isn't an issue I guess. It's relatively a new watch, been just a month or so.
Will try keeping the watch upside down and see nonetheless.

Kept the watch upside down, still drains @2%/hour.
