What is a Forum Leader? - General Questions and Answers

What is a "forum leader" here?

Hi,
Forum Leaders are xda users who have been allowed by XDA owners/staff to create and drive/manage their own specific forum, they were allowed to do this by submitting an application, XDA owners/staff review those applications and approve them if it makes sense and adds value to the community.
So, they are users who want to create (and moderate) their own forum, but these are user-created forums and aren't subject to the same "official" moderation standards than XDA moderators. Though existing XDA moderators can still go in and moderate and make sure people follow the rules.
The end goal back in 2015 (date of the implementation by xda owners), was to encourage innovation on XDA and give users the ability to organize and just generally encourage a better sense of community.
Please note that I don't know at all if it's something that is still true and relevant nowadays. I don't know the current functioning.

New Poll Concerning XDA And Android On Q&A Forum

I know this isn't a dev build i'm releasing, so it theoretically doesn't belong in the dev forum, but I think that this affects the whole android community as a whole, and it's based around ease of access for Devs.
I created a poll in the Q&A section concerning XDA creating a sister site specifically for android, so that all devs could be in one central location, not just devs for HTC devices.

XDA User Post Restriction

XDA has a really annoying policy of not letting users with less than 10 posts, reply in the XDA developer's thread.

I think it's a good policy. It prevents users from creating a new account just so they can quickly and easily troll or flame in a particular thread. Having to make 10 threads of their own will tend to make them lose interest in the instant trolling and flaming.
There is always better ways to place a complaint, you shoudl use the proper channels like using the (requests) From the Users to the Mods & Admins thread.
Besides you have only 4 posts, regular users find it quite acceptable.
On that note thread closed

Micromax,karbonn,lava,celkon,spice,xolo,mtk users come in

how about a seperate forum and meeting place for us ppl to innovate and improvize?
here is a basic model of the idea..

i hope this isnt against the rules of xda. hoping for feedback from senior xda members.

[Q] Cause for restrictions on posting?

Just curious as to how long account restrictions are in place here at XDA? I've been a member of many forums over the years (retired moderator at Overclock.net) and frankly puzzled as I have never seen these kind of restrictions on another site.
Not allowed to post external links (so no photobucket, no links to accessories).
Can only post every 5 minutes? Again a real head scratcher.
Have to type in an authentication code every time I post?
Just wondering if XDA is actively discouraging new members from joining.
I have to say great content on the site but very frustrating to try and participate.
Just something to prevent people joining solely to spam. Goes away after a few dozen posts.

Restrictions are in place to give people an opportunity to read, search, and learn to navigate their way around the site, as well as to help curb all of the spam that is constantly trying to force it's way in.
Also, I moved your thread to the Q&A section...

[Completed] Request for dev forums privileges

Hi, I've been a long time lurker and ROM customization / modding enthusiast, although I'm not an active dev, I have frequently over my years reading XDA come across development threads that I could participate constructively in if I had privileges to post. May I respectfully submit for your consideration that my account be granted aforementioned privileges? The threads I currently have to use to create posts to establish this according to forum moderation guidelines leaves me at a loss, and I would prefer not to post frivolously just to gain the member status I'm requesting. Cheers!

Greetings,
You earn the right to post in Development sections after you have made 10 useful or helpful posts. Do not spam "thanks" or "+1" types of posts, as this could get you into trouble.
I suggest going to your device's Q&A or General sections and see if you can contribute there. If you don't have a device with a dedicated forum, go to one of our General or common Q&A sections and try to contribute.
Thanks!
