Question GW4 Bluetooth going into cooling mode when charging - Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Hi everyone!
This is the second day I'm using my brand new GW4 (bluetooth version), and the second time in a row that the watch popped up a cooling down message while charging. I haven't used its original charger but a Samsung Wireless Charger Pad (EP-3100), manufactured in 2018, with which I charge without a problem all my Samsung devices (Note 8, Note 10, Buds+, GWA2). The pad even has a fan which is turned on when I place my GW4 on it.
Does it sound that my GW4 is defective or Samsung's charger pad is simply incompatible? Tomorrow I'll try to charge it with the charger which is included in the package, but I'd like your opinion on this.
Thank you in advance!

Honestly it just sounds like it's getting too much juice. I'd use the charger it came with and if that doesn't fix it then you have a defective watch

Huh I didn't even know this watch had a cooling system lol I personally haven't noticed any heating issues but now I'm hesitant to get a 3rd party wireless charger

Gear S2 Charger Compatibility

First day with the classic, I got home just now and have my spare moto 360 charger sitting on the desk. Put the S2 on there to see if it would charge, it sits just fine and I would imagine that it's lined up but it appears that it charged it for a second and then doesn't continue charging. The 360 charger will remain lit as a device on there is being charged but the watch doesn't accept the charge. Anyone tried it with any other Qi chargers? Don't tell me it's some proprietary crap.
Havent had much luck with my Gear S2. I have to take the straps off to get it to lay flat on any Qi pad. Official Samsung Qi pad will charge for a second or two before it starts flashing blue and the watch stops charging. The cheap pad I purchased from Amazon doesn't do anything at all when I place my watch on it.
So I took apart my cheap charge pad and took the coil out. If I rest the watch directly on the coil it actually charges but it gets very hot after just a few minutes. Guess we have to wait for Samsung to start selling new docks or for a 3rd party to make one strong enough to power the coil in the S2.
It would seem that the S2 does not actually use Qi, or some proprietary variant. For me it's charging neither on the Moto 360 charger nor on various Qi charging pads from Ikea that I have.
Not my video but this guy says it works with moto 360 charger
https://youtu.be/QbRAlbvXFXI

It doesn't, and the video does not prove the opposite. It just shows that someone places a S2 onto the Moto360 charger and that charger and S2 recognize each other. This is what everyone can see, but as said, the S2 is not charged actually.
I would comment on the video if it wouldn't require G+ membership.
This one shows a guy using another wireless charger.

And that guy is as stupid as the other one because in his video you can even SEE that it doesn't charge!
BTW, he's also just as stupid as his Swabian dialect. And yes, I am allowed to say that, because I'm from Germany as well.
Just have a closer look, especially when he places the S2 onto the Samsung charging pad. You see how the charge indicator icon on the S2 appears and disappears right away. Then he swipes down so that you can see the icon again. And now you see that the little flash in the battery icon (which is on when the watch actually charges) is not there. So no charging.
Just because someone is able to upload something to YT does not mean he/she is right. Or smart.

Strange, mine works perfect ...
My watch just fits in the handle (facing 90 degrees) and the straps are touches nothing.
What handle? What charger are you using?

The standard charger that came with the s2.
Maybe it wasn't explained well. The watch just set nicely on the charger vertically and laying against the charge part of the charger. The strap is not close to anything ... not even close to an issue

They're talking about using the s2 with other qi chargers. There's not a problem getting it to charge on the included charger.

So... Yeah. It looks like everyone just assumed it would support Qi, since that was the standard that Samsung supported before the newest phones released this year (that supports WPC and Qi).
Looks like they may have went in a different direction entirely with the S2. This just gets better and better...

Unfortunately they didn't state what's the reason why standard Qi chargers don't work. They just confirmed they don't work...
Nice find anyway...
@chemaster: You might want to re-read the thread...
I'm not saying you guys are wrong about the charger but the manufacturer is supposed to say use with the supplied charger only. But here is a reviewer on AC that says the charger that came with the s2 is qi.

haha yeah i am from austria and i loled.
just got my gear s2 today and tried it with tylt charger, although just holding it against the back side and trying to find a spot where it will charge. but it did not. i also got the fast wireless charger from samsung today and it seems to work for a few seconds and then loose the connection and stops charging. sometimes after more than 10 or more seconds. so maybe it just recognizes the charger, but it seems like it gets a charge for some time and then stops.
i have a few other qi chargers at home from ikea and other and will try those as well and will report back. would be awesome to have some more options to actually charge the watch than just the charger that comes with it and no replacement to buy from samsung.
that was one of the best things of the sony smartwatch 3, to charge it anywhere you could possibly imagine.
Edit:
so i just got home and tested all of my other qi chargers. the ikea lamp charger does not work nor does the adata CE700.
but i noticed one strange/cool thing: the original nexus charger for the N5 in fact does work perfektly. i put the watch on and they connect and stay connected and i just saw it charged from 95% to 96% so far no heat or anything.
so i guess its qi compatible after all, but i don't get it that some or better to say a few will work and most of them not.
cheers

Uhh this thread is about using a charger other then the gear s2 charger, but you said your using the stock charger? We know it charges just fine on the charger it came with we talking about using other QI or wireless chargers.
---------- Post added at 10:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:57 PM ----------
I have both a moto 360 and gear s2. I have swapped chargers and my findings are as follows.
The 360 works great on the charger of the gear s2. it charges at normal speed and works without any issues.
The Gear S2 does seem to charger slower or stop and start charging when being placed on the moto 360 charger, but that all seems to be due to size. The larger diameter of the moto 360 holds the watch higher up on the charging pad. When I place a spacer to lift the gear s2 high up on the charger it seems to work just fine. I think it's all about placement.
And for those trying the stupid Samsung wireless charger and getting a flashing blue light. It does that with the phone that's supposed to be on the charger and the is threads with pages and pages of complaints about that issue. I can only imagine that using this small watch on it will only make it more prone to do what it already does. So I don't want to even rate that!

No, it doesn't. The original charger for the Nexus 7 et al behaves exactly like all other wireless chargers:
It charges for some seconds then stops (in this case flashing a red LED)
I guess that the "sweet-spot" for charging in the S2 is so small (and elevated through the bent-down strap holders) that is could be charged on QI pads but doesn't due to its very (non-flat) shape... just my 2cts

i guess you are right about the sweet spot. i think its hard to find the right spot where it will charge.
but about the n5 charger (maybe you mean another one) i mean the magnetic square one. it will actually charge on it. i had to find the right spot, but it did actually charge. i can make a video if you want
Hi,
Well, I do have the same charger - square and with magnets in it. But I never managed to continuosly charge my S2 Classic.

Any verdict on 3rd party chargers?

Looking for a backup/travel charger. Anyone 100% satisfied with a 3rd party charger?
Saw this article with a bunch of them, many with no Amazon reviews. Anyone have any experience with these brands?
https://www.megebyte.com/best-samsung-gear-s3-charging-docks/
Or do I have to suck it up and pay $40 for an OEM S3?
Thanks!
I bought a generic one from Amazon and working great so far but you have to use your own power supply which I have plenty. Eventhough it says for S2, the base is also taller which fits the S3 better. Only $9.99 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K7F5F8Y. Some reviewers say watch gets hot but when I compared with the original charger, its the same - warmish but not hot. Even my S2 gets warmish after a full charge with original charger. Maybe I only used a 750mA power supply.

I bought a generic one from eBay which said it worked for S2 & S3.
Placed my S3 in and the watch displayed a "use original charger" message but it did charge, at least for a while.
The charger caused the S3 to get so hot that after about 10 minutes the watch displayed an over temp alarm, shut down and stopped charging.
$15 bucks wasted.

That sucks. I did go ahead and grab the one rec'd by Klingon888. I've had it for a little over a week, and so far so good. Seems to work as fast as the OEM, warm, but no more than OEM, definitely not "hot". So I'm satisfied. (So far - fingers crossed). Thanks again, @klingon888!
This got me a little nervous. I've been using mine for a couple weeks now, and no problem. But I didn't realize they could go bad. Probably not worth waiting to find out. Think I'll grab an OEM...

How does that match up w/the height of the stock S3 charger from Samsung...I don't see it sticking up behind the watch face the way the stock one does.
Seems important that the aftermarket chargers match up w/the dimensions of the watch to have the charging HW positioned correctly on the watch for best efficiency and to avoid overheating issues.

I don't have the Samsung charger with me to do a direct comparison; anyway here are some shots of the MoKo charger from different views so you can understand the way it couples with the watch compared to the Samsung charger.

Got this one. Solid and works well. Attached are comparison pics with the OEM charger. The only noticeable difference is the front facing led.

Thanks, that's the first one I've seen that appears to be the same form factor.
When you say the "...only noticeable difference is the front-facing LED" do you mean that there isn't an LED, or that it uses different colors?
Just took a quick look at the reviews and remember seeing that one, but it has a bunch of bad reviews...I guess it's been OK for you, and based on comments you are using a different cable than the one included w/the charger.
Thanks!

Thanks for the pics, don't have my S3 charger in front of me, but the pics you posted look like it's smaller than the stock charger. I'll check at home later.
The Led on the OEM one is larger. They both have LEDS but the OEM indicator light is bigger. The aftermarket one works well with my usb cables. The one that came with it will go in the trash. No charging disconnects with it either.

Ordered it and it arrived today. Amazon URL: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N0JTDXQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
As you said, looks very much like the S3 stock charger, very similar size/form factor, and charging time for a short 15% charge was what I expected, and watch did not heat up. I'm using my own USB cord, because from the Amazon reviews, problems w/the included USB cord were a primary cause of low ratings for this charger.
So I'm happy w/this one for now - see pics for more comparison. Samsung stock charger is on the left in pics attached.
Thanks!

Bought one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ETEDPMC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for my S8+ plus.. for fun i put my Gear s3 on it and it started charging.. I did not leave it on there to find out if it got hot or anything..
I bought a package of two from Amazon and it fried my S3. The electronics inside did not seem to handle the charging rate. In 5 hours, the charge went from about 50% to about 80% and the watch was so hot I could hardly touch it. The vendor refunded my money and the chargers are in the recycle box. I was using it on the wall plug USB (Leviton) that can deliver about 2 amps whereas the Samsung adapter delivers 0.7 amps.

Make sure it has magnet in the charge plate like the genuine one so that the watch can sit properly while charging. Otherwise it will either do not charge or fry your watch in extreme case.

Bought two of those. One for work (watch keeps "unsyncing" from my phone and I see "Start Journey" a lot. So my Watch tries to use LTE, and the signal is so weak... my watch dies very quickly!) so now I can charge it at work. Bought another for when we travel. Wife and I can take turns charging our watches. So far so good!

Safest wireless charger?

Anyone knows of a reliable and safe wireless charger for the S10+?
Most claim to have overcharging, overheating and overcurrent protection and I would think the phone itself must have protection to stop the charge if the charger starts acting weird, however, a chinese wireless charger from amazon completely killed my phone.
I got one on Amazon of the brand "Pictek" and left my phone overnight and in the morning was extremely hot all day (average 45° C or 113° F), battery drained extremely fast in 4 hours then phone died completely with no way to turn it back on (I tried everything and didn't even go into recovery mode)
Also, the samsung ones don't have very good reviews either and I tried one of my samsung pads (one of the first generations, not fast charge) with my galaxy buds and they got extremely hot really quick and that doesn't happen with other wireless chargers so I discarded that one as well.
I'm temped to try something like anker or yootech but even those have a few one star reviews stating they melted or started producing smoke. I'm starting to get very paranoid with all these chinese electronics, just last year a car charger from an also "reputable" brand with a lot of reviews on amazon burned my passengers car seat when my car was like 2 months old
I use Samsung's fast wireless chargers (flat and angled) and they work great in my opinion. They have a fan located on the back to keep the temperatures down and are actually pretty quiet.
I use this charger and it's way small and works well with my Galaxy buds and S10+. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07H3QV49S/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdc

do you have the galaxy buds by any chance? I was thinking on getting the newest samsung dual charger but $99 is too much plus I prefer the ones that are like a stand (angled) instead of flat. I feel is less effort trying to center the phone in the correct position
I was also thinking getting one of the previous generation duo chargers but there are some reviews on amazon having the same problem I had with the samsung pad and my galaxy buds but they are having the issue with the Gear S3 but I was wondering if the same would happen with the buds.
ShaneB 0 stars, either defective or a fire hazard waiting to happen. Really disappointed

Okay so this is what I've been needing to charge my Gear S3 Frontier watch and my Note 9 instead of having 2 chargers on my bedside table.
The flat charger states it's fast charging; however, on my S8+, Note 8, and Note 9 it slow charged it, the fast wireless charging stand, however, did charge my devices with fast charging.
Onto the more concerning part of this review. My Gear S3 Frontier watch would overheat using the flat charger. My watch would throw an error in red to use the original charger - odd. In addition to the error, my watch would be so hot that the metal would burn my skin when putting the watch on after being "charged", which it took 4-5 hours to charge 85% up from 60%. Of course I thought it was my watch but when I used the charger that came with my watch it was fine. So in conclusion, the flat "fast" wireless charger over heats any Samsung device placed on it whereas the fast wireless charging stand worked great.
I purchase every S-line and a new Note every year, and this is an unacceptable 1st party charger.

Question Alternate chargers for Watch 4.

I just got the Watch 4 yesterday. The first thing I did was set it on my Watch 3 charger. It shows charging (as expected). After about 20 seconds, it says "Charging Paused" and stops charging. The dock continues to show the blue light, as if it is still charging. I have a Z Fold 2 and tried power share (used many times with my watch 3) and it does the exact same thing. Does anyone else have a charger to test it? If they have blocked charging, it is a deal breaker.

I tried mine on a non-Samsung wireless charger and it didn't work. I looked it up, and the watch 4 only works with Samsung chargers at the moment. Apparently, some new proprietary standard... There's a charging pad for $41 on Amazon that's Samsung and will work.
My Watch 4 arrived today, and after setting it up I placed it on my existing Watch 3 charger and it charged with no problem, though somewhat slowly.
The watch 4 has the same exact charger as the watch 3 and active 2.
flip it over and look at the model number.
My Watch 4 does the same thing. I place it where I charged my Watch 3 and after a bit it says charging paused. I place it on the Samsung charger and it charges normally.
It works with reverse wireless charging on my note 20 ultra which charges other qi devices so I wonder about any physical proprietary limitations as opposed to software...
my watch 4 doesnt charge on my previous watch 2 charger either. pauses after 20secs.
OK thanks for all of the replies. I have 2 Samsung Watch 3 Classic chargers and 1 aftermarket charger that looks just like the other two. I also have a note 10 and Z Fold 2. This watch will not charge on ANY of them. I have tried contacting Samsung several times and they either hang up on me as soon as I ask about the Watch 4 charging or put me back in the queue.
Just as a data point the Samsung Trio charger works perfectly with the GW4 (as you would expect).
I want to buy a charger compatible with the watch 4 classic 46 mm but I'm not sure if it will work.
Someone can give me a link from amazon with a really working charger.
Thank you
I have the Watch 4 Classic (46mm) and the charger from my Watch 3 LTE works just fine. When you flip it over, you will see that both the 3 and 4 chargers are exactly the same model number.
That said, I have a couple of third party chargers that have different results. I have an Intoval 3 in 1 charger I bought from Amazon. It charges a phone, watch and buds (specifically Samsung devices, not Apple). Worked great with the Watch 3, Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Buds Live. If I put the Watch 4 on the charger by itself, it works. Put it on with either the phone or buds and it actually drains the battery.
I also have a third party puck that looks just like the Samsung and also worked great with the Watch 3. Doesn't work at all with the 4.
I guess we will have to wait for the third party market to catch up. Until then, it seems like - other than the large charging pads - it will be very difficult to find a genuine Samsung puck to have as a spare/travel charger.

Mine charges on a Watch 3 and a third party clone. I just tested it on my Fold 3 and it worked, also. I have a 46mm Classic LTE.

Question Best charger and wireless charger/charging pad for the P7P

Hello everyone,
Any sygegstions/recommendations on a good wireless charging pad to charge the phone and the buds pro, even the pixel watch perhaps? Would also like to keep a fast wired charger for quick juice up - Not the google one. I am open to chargers with multiple ports for multiple devices getting charged quickly. So
1) Wireless charging pad (Atleast dual)
2) Wired charger with multiple ports
Thank you for your time and help.
I use this one to charge my galaxy watch 4 and galaxy buds+ together with my p7p. It works great! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09JZC8KFH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks. A bit beyond my budget, which is $25, but I clearly need one to charge P7P, Pixel Buds Pro and Pixel Watch.
does the speed of wireless charging soley depend on the adapter thats plugged in to the wireless charging pad?
