I know DEX isn't supported. When trying to force desktop mode w/ a various Usb-c HDMI dongles nothing happens.
Q: Do we actually know if this is a Samsung hardware limitation or lock out in the software/kernel?
I'd think it's gotta be a software/firmware limitation, as the hardware can seemingly handle it.
My guess is Samsung did this w/the battery capacity in mind, not wanting to field any complaints about poor battery life while using DeX/desktop mode.
Did you enable ALL of the required settings in Developer Options?
Now that you mentioned it, I also vaguely remember reading somewhere that this one doesn't do video out from the USB-C. That may also be a part of it.

After doing some investigation, there is no video out on this phone. Unfortunately, that means it likely won't ever work. That said, here are the other two options that would normally be used:
"Force activities to be resizable" allows resizing any app in multi-window, which helps if you were to resize them on the psedu-DeX view
"Enable freeform sizecompat" helps with apps that have compatibility settings that might break freeform with the standard option.
I purchased that NexDock Touch just after the Note 20 Ultra. I haven't gotten around to testing it with this one, but DeX was one of the harder things to give up.

Thanks, I tried enabling those too just to see if anything changed. I'd love to know if the usb-c port lacks physical connections internally. I still wouldn't count out the software side of things, maybe we'll know when someone skilled look into making a custom rom.

If the hardware could support it, you would at least get mirroring.
... that's not to say wireless isn't an option down the line.

I don't understand this just because I also charge my phone while using the usb port. So...
I'd for sure donate to anyone who manage to unlock the ability to at least use "force desktop mode" on this device. Then we could at least make some kind of DIY DeX using the Taskbar app.

Hardware
Limitation
The (likely) reason there is no video out is the cover. That is identified as a second screen, just like any connected to DeX. Being the first time the outside screen is a legitimate screen, Samsung probably couldn't get together the software to both limit the outside screen AND fully support an external display. The easiest solution would be disabling the ability altogether.
Does the Fold support DeX? That should give a pretty good indication of future possibility, but not until a future generation. The best we'll get on this one would be unlocking the cover and some sort of wireless screen share.
Multi-displayThe Force desktop developer option enables you to turn on system decoration support on all secondary displays. Force desktop mode also displays a mouse pointer on the secondary displays instead of on the default display. When used with the Enable Freeform windows developer option, Force desktop simulates a desktop experience with multi-window mode and the ability to resize windows.

Looks like part of the issue is the cover screen blocking it
I use adb/scrcpy as kind-of 2nd screen workaround on my PC.
Simulate a 2nd Screen with your desired resolution on the phone and then use scrcpy to push this simulated screen to my PC. It crashes the phone sometimes - just reboot.
Not a Dex solution, but sth you can write emails with and use the browser.

Yeah I tried that too, not bad at all!
Seem to work really good for movie content and office applications as you mentioned.
I tested some gaming and I'm not sure if it's a limitation of the software but I tried some emulation such as Super Mario Bros. 3 and I noticed a lot of "dropped" frames when jumping, could have something to do with the image compression. If it could find some setting fixing this would actually be a really good work-around, using something like a raspberry pi as the middle hand.

Well I am not playing. Using it for office stuff only and not very often. It is just too uncomfortable to set it up, reconfigure the phone and revert it all back afterwards.
The Flip is unfortunatly not made for it. A price I am happy to accept for the pocket-sized form ;-)

So, as the title says, I have the N1 resting in the dock and charging. I want to use Google Talk so I tap the home button and open Google Talk. Between the tap on the home icon and anywhere after the Nexus One will automatically return to the clock app. I can tap home again and randomly it will again return to the clock.
Is there a way to a) disable the clock (I'll miss it, but it's almost frustrating enough to never use it again) or b) disable return to the clock app? I don't see any settings to accomplish this so it's probably some power user trick. I don't think this is occurring because the N1 is losing contact with the dock while I'm tapping as it's resting pretty solid in the dock.
Any ideas?
I guess you could put a small piece of tape over the middle pin and that should prevent it from going into the Clock app but still allow it to charge.
try dock nothingness from the market, it will let you select it and when its docked it wont open anything.

Excellent recommendation. I tried a couple of the Droid dock app and they were buggy. This app is consistent. Thanks.

I don't think the app will stop working because it is not a hack, it's using documented and officials Sticky BroadcastReceivers for detecting the dock, opening "Dock Nothingness" instead, however, the "Dock Nothingness" app is nothing, so it closes it self right away giving the user the illusion of the phone not really opening anything
When I read the thread topic, I was like "yeah, its damn frustrating!".
velazcod: Thanks for the app to fix this nuisance.
I look forward to the next version that does even more nothing!
Updated, make sure to go into the app's preferences -> Phone and select "Nexus One / CM5" if you are on CM5.0.3+

Just received my desktop dock and the clock application was driving me mad within 10 minutes of making and receiving calls etc.

One of the things I find irritating about the dock is when I'm playing music through the bluetooth connection it initializes automatically and I take the phone off to send a text or whatnot it unpairs its self. Can I force it to stay paired until I turn off bluetooth?

Yes, connect and pair before docking it
I do that now, but I have to dig through the wireless menu. Is there a widget or something that will connect to a predefined device with one touch?

For some reason the dock won't allow to auto-connect when in range, it does this for other devices, like headsets....
Typing this on my keyboard dock, with mousepad disabled.
They keys work very well and I have no complaints about it o far.
But the mousepad - oh my.
At first it was too fast, managed to sort that out in settings. All well.
I don't completely understand difference between mouse pointer and gesture thing. Is it only a graphical representation that is different, or should it behave differently? Also, the navigation is very cumbersome. For example, I don't get how exactly am i supposed to flick through my launcher screens....
But the most annoying thing, and that is why i turned it off - it keeps pressing left button when i use mousepad. I am not even touching the part where the left/right mouse buttons are. Also, in settings, it says right an middle button. What's with that.
Yup, new to tablets, new to peripherals for Android.
Does anyone else have problems with the keyboard, musepad... Please share and please help me understand keyboard/mousepad so I could use it in full potential. Cause right now, only typing is a dealio for me - and charging of course, which is working fine.
Thanks
I have never even heard of a TF user actually using that touchpad thingy. I have it disabled as well, as it constantly places my cursor mid-text, and therefore causes me to add the new and most recent part of my last sentence mid-sentence somewhere higher up in the text. Really frustrating.
So, in short: no, you're not alone, and I don't think *anyone* has found a wy to get it to work like it should, except for those that can bear keeping their fingers in quite an unnatural position hovering somewhere above the keys waiting to be used. Bah. With the touchpad disabled, hwever, I feel it's OK, save for too much typos to my liking causing me to drop typing speed (either preventatively or by necessitating correction). I'm really looking forward to SwiftKey support for this keyboard!
Have you noticed more lags in UI while using touchpad? I've described it in another thread (same with USB mouse)
question about the track pad, the only reason i was going to buy it was because it was said it fixes touch issues. are ur touhces accurate and swift ? also how fast can you type, do word documents keep up with you

Keyboard (keys) are not problematic at all. Tried with KingsOffice, Google Docs...All well there.
Only mousepad/touchpad is the one that makes me wanna cry. I do have USB mouse, so i'll try it.
Regarding the lags ... with dock connected, no, i don't think there is any lag. I will test it with mouse, too, and let you know how that goes.
Hey,
so, I have tried USB mouse and it works fine.
Furthermore, mosuepad works perfectly well, too.
It is Google Drive apps that are not compatible or something.
Whenever I write a document in gdrive, I get this weird things with mouse clicking all around...also the USB mouse.
If I than switch to KingSoft Office or Polaris, the weirdness continues there, too.
But, If I don't open or work in gdrive, everything works just fine!
On the matter of lag: no lag here.

and didn't you notice more lags while scrolling through apps and widgets or moving apps? try holding an icon on your homescreen and move it fast around the screen, see what happens.
Nope, seems same.
Maybe launcher thing...i'm on apex...
I don't see any performance degradation because of the dock.
I do have other problems sometimes. Like, can't enter a pin number on lockscreen.
Also, that was kind of a funny thing, when i first showed pad and dock to some friends i brought it turned off.
Pulled it out of and said "I have a new notebook. But it is not notebook, suckas..." and detached pad.
Then i turned it on. It's just...that it didn't want to turn on...sucka
Had to plug in the teh dock again, turn it on and than it was fine.
Strange...happened only once though.

Oh OK, I see. That's most likely a launcher thing. I think I'll wait for JB for a little while and if it doesn't solve this, I'll probably try Apex or Nova.
That's a bummer with showing it to your friends ;-) kind of like Microsoft showing their new products and getting some kind of BSoD or similar thing almost every time they introduce their new OS ;>
As to the lockscreen - try changing WiFi sleep settings so it won't be turned off when screen is off. Might be bad for battery life, but just check if this is the problem, as it was for many people who had huge lags with waking their Primes up from sleep.
You might also try playing with dock's power-saving settings in ASUS settings.

I know what they mean, for sometimes swiping the homescreen is less fluid or snappy than at other times. Nothing drastic though.

Apex has been the best so far, although for heer speed, you could take a look at FTL Launcher as well. Not quite as configurable, but its "instant" homescreen swiping is as fast as your system van do it.

As far as I know, having WiFi enabled doesn't consume a relevant amount of battery when it is not actively transferring data. Indeed, several Prime owners have benefited from having it always on (the way it is stock on the TF700, I believe, so unless you have tweaked this setting yourself, it probably already keeps WiFi enable dwhile sleeping). It never hurts to try, I guess.
OMFG. I am so stupid sometimes
I have a password on several sites that consists of characters and numbers.
Well, for the PIN on the pad i choose same numbers. And of course I wanted to type in my password, with characters, too.
And it didn't work  - how strange
There actually is a little lag, but that's nothing to what I was thinking is going on
Thanks anyway! (I usually have wifi always on, also on phone....and it doesn't drain much battery if not transferring....)
That's good to hear ;-)
I've actually discovered that it may be 3-5% battery/hour less drain with WiFi completely off and screen on (apart from the obvious advantage of turning off Internet while reading pdfs, so I won't get distracted easily...).

Nope, haven't seen one yet. It probably fail one or both of the most important criteria: sensitivity and battery conservation. I'd suspect that, especially when the first has been met admirably, the second would suffer horribly.
Is activating the dock's waking functionality not an option? (I can't recall if you have the dock.) EDIT: that's somewhere under ASUS' customized settings panel on a stock ROM. I haven't seen functionality like that on a custom ROM, though -- I'll look around as well.
No I don't have a dock.
I need it when writing with super note.
I want to quickly deactivate and reactivate the screen.
But using the button and entering the pattern is to slow.
Maybe I will program it my own if possible.

Shutting it down is easy -- Turn Off the Lights does that, for example -- but it is the detection of which I am strongly doubtful.
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6275671/activate-android-with-touch-instead-of-power-button
My phone kept "falling asleep" for what seemed to be at random times when using the phone. I finally determined it was because of the one-handed mode. When I drag from the side, to the middle, which is supposed to activate the mode, it turns off the phone display off as if I pressed the button to do that, or double tapped it (which I have activated) - is anyone else experiencing this??
The other issue I have is that I recall having the open to pull the notification area down, and along with the brightness, it showed the volume too. I know that you are "supposed to" go to where the pen icon is to edit....but when I press on the three dots, the only option is brightness, so it's not even as if I have the option to enable that, even if I wanted to!
Thoughts? Is there a developer option I need to enable?
PS: I beg that you don't ask me for phone specifics if you're not sure that it would resolve the issue. I have no issue sharing that information with anyone. But if you don't know if Oreo, for example, is the cause...I'd rather not try to locate information that may never be used to troubleshooting, which would waste both of our times.

Hi, thank you for the reply.
No I am not on an aftermarket display. I purchased this through Verizon.
Along those lines, all updates have been through the automated process built into the phone.
I agree that it appears to be software, or at least software that may have been installed. Is there a way to search by install date on my device? I may have to reverse engineer what application was installed when this happened (maybe about two months ago, probably less) - my only concern is I may uninstall that software but whatever change was made remains. Wondering if there is a "rollback" feature on the phone where I can just put it back to a certain point in time.

I would say the easiest is just to use lg UP to flash a slightly earlier version. I can't tell too much and I don't think an app being installed/uninstalled would matter.
Hi all,
I've been searching all over the Internet but I can't find any solution.
The edge panel on my Z Fold 2 is correctly enabled in the settings with a handle position on the right side of my screen. Screenshots attached (they're in Dutch, but everything enabled as you can see)
When I try to use it, it only works like 1% of the time. Most of the time, nothing happens.
Is anyone else facing this issue? Does anyone know how to solve this?
Many thanks in advance!
Try disabling all power management... destroyer of worlds.
Clear system cache.
If you've done any major firmware updates... factory reload time.
I had to turn on touch sensitivity. I wasn't suggesting One Handed Operation plus would fix the Edge panel* but rather replace it.
I had issues with the Edge panel for a while on my 10+, it works fine now. Play with it.
Even works with One Handed Operation plus.
Try clearing it's data.
Make sure all power management is disabled including any 3rd party ones as they will mess it up.

Maybe interaction & dexterity setting or there's an app or somewhere that lets you define areas of the screen for certain functions and/or not doing anything when touched [email protected] you're always good with what things are called what/where is that.. The clue is to swipe up from the bottom of the screen first and then the edge panel works.

Still not sure why I need to swipe up first, but it finally works
