Hi everyone,
Nexus 5 on different recent CM11 nightlies, and Pebble V3R1 on firmwares from 2.4 to 2.6, fwiw.
So I'm using a "Notification Center" app to get notifications to my Pebble smartwatch. The app uses NotificationListener, then filters through custom settings (like "no notifications for app xyz"), then sends the message to the Pebble (or not).
Now whenever I'm having the phone on and an app running, taking WhatsApp with the keyboard up as an example now, and I get a new notification that wasn't previously there (like the first Hangouts message since I last dismissed Hangouts notifications), and the message is not filtered out but actually forwarded to the watch, WhatsApp will behave like when you hit the home button and open it again right away, which means the keyboard will minimize in that case, which is annoying, to say the least. It also happens when I dismiss the notification on the phone from the watch.
I also found out over time that this issue exists for four different apps (had to buy every single one :victory: ) from independent developers. I contacted two of them personally and none of them has a clue what to do or is able to reproduce the issue. Also no one else seems to have reported this one.
There are options to work around the problem like disabling notifications being sent to the watch while the phone screen is on, but that's not convenient, because I enjoy having those notifications on the watch while using a fullscreen app, for example. But I'm really out of ideas as to where to look or who to talk to to get a step further with this weird issue.
Also I can not reproduce it using other NotificationListener apps, like tasker + relevant plugin to execute some stuff.
If anyone had really any input, like how would I go about finding out "who" actually messes with the active app, or anything really, I'd be grateful.

Edit: And just minutes after posting I find another one: whenever opening or closing the main menu on the pebble the exact same thing happens. I guess I'll have to take this one over to the pebble developers. I'll leave this here though if I may, maybe someday someone will experience this too and stumble upon this thread.
Edit2: With the first edit and some help on IRC we were now able to be 100% sure it's an pebble issue. Sorry for this one, I guess.
Does anyone know a workaround for using the stock email app. I absolutely hate using it but I can't get the correct notifications and things to work on my watch if I don't. I was using Aquamail on my phone but it doesn't really work on the watch very well. This thing need root! My Huawei is fun but I do like the S3 better.
I use Nine Outlook for Android, it plays very well with both Tizen and Android Wear. I don't create emails from my watch but when I get an email that comes in on Nine I can delete/mark as read/flag for follow up/show on phone/clear/reply/reply all. I mostly either mark as read or delete the emails. I occasionally respond.
It works great. If you are looking to create an email you can't do it with Nine on the watch.
I use my mail app, which has all my email account in one app.
To see the notifications I use an app called notification wear.
Once installed you get all the notifications for email, whatsapp, facebook and so on. It also stores your recieves messages so you reply to them. I like the stock notification where once you have opened it, it's gone.

What isn't explained too well is how to delete a message.
So I'll try to explain.
For example, if you receive a whatsapp message. You swipe left once to read, you can then scroll up and down.
Swipe left twice to reply, you can rely by typing or voice.
To delete that message. Go back to 1st screen of the message and swipe right.
When you receive a message, it stores the sender. So you can reply at any time.
Just one major drawback. When you turn off the watch, you loose all contacts that messaged you. So you need to wait till they send again and then it is stored until your restart your watch.

I downloaded and installed it yesterday on my S3 Frontier. I had high hopes as I've been looking for a way to display notifications from my default mail app on my Samsung phone - which is Aquamail - and the problem is that sometimes new email notifications come up on the watch and other times they don't - there's just no consistency. But frankly this Notifications Wear app is awful.
Firstly, it doesn't actually integrate with the native notifications interface on the S3 watch (which is found by turning bezel anti-clockwise from home screen) but instead the notifications come in via its own app on the Gear, so you have to run that. An then the app interface itself is awful. Looks like it was designed by a 2 year old. The first line or two of the notification displays in a tiny letterbox style space. And it's also not intuitiave at all how to read them fully. I kept accidentally deleting notifications completely by swiping right after tapping on the notifications. The app developer also doesn't seem to have even settled on the name of his app. The app logo calls it "Notifications Wear Style" but the app title is "Notifications Style Gear S2/S3". On your watch it displays app name as "NWS S2". And you have to install the separate app on your phone - which is not of course a problem in ittself - it's just that again the app is hideous. I can honestly say this is the most amateur looking and poorly designed app I've EVER seen!
I don't have such a problem with it. Yes it does not interact with the native notification but I turn it off and just accept this app. As long as you receive the notification it does not matter if it's the native app or not.
As you I made the mistake of swiping right and deleting everything but once I realised what I was doing I easily adapted. I can use the bezel instead of swiping to see the message, reply or delete.
Correct the first screen is a small window of the message, turn the bezel or swipe to the left for the full message and you can scroll up and down to read it all.
There is an option to change the font size if it's too big or small.
It could do with better instructions, once you get the hang of it, it's easy.
Receive message notification :
Swipe left once to read, twice to reply.
Delete is swipe right.
I use MY MAIL for my emails. I have Hotmail, Gmail and yahoo,i receive all of them.
As for the appearance, yes it could be much better, but is there another app that can do better than this?

Maye there is not a better app available, but I am trying to use this on on a phone which costs 350 - 400 dollars depending where you buy it, so I don't want an app on the phone that looks like it was designed by a two year old. Sorry but it's just awful.
For me, functionality comes before appearance and its not that bad.
When I receive a whatsapp message, the background is of the photo from the sender.
When I receive an email it's just plain black.
The issue I have is when you turn your watch off and you loose all messages and contacts. Messages I don't mind loosing so much as they are still stored on the phone. But I'd like to have my contacts stored on the watch.
Until someone comes up with a better alternative then I'm happy using this one.
As the title describes, although I am using a Pixel 2 rather than a samsung phone. Gmail notifications will not vibrate on the watch but will show notifications dots, etc. Other apps' notifications will vibrate properly, even the Google Inbox app. I figured this could be something widely discussed as most people use Gmail, but searching in the forums didn't really show a lot of results. I am wondering if anyone has encountered the same problem and is there a fix to it. Gmail notifications come through, but just won't vibrate the watch

I also found out that this is a android thing as well, I have an iphone laying around and will work just fine with the gear, vibrations and notifications.

I'm also getting this issue with Gmail only(email comes to watch but no vibration to let me know if phone isn't nearby), has anyone found a solution? For my text messages I found that enabling Textra, and the default Android messages made that now vibrate when I receive a notification. But I can't find any default Android mail on the app list?
Same problem here. S3 Frontier with a Pixel 2 XL. Knowing that Inbox (Outlook works as well) works helps, but I'd like to use Gmail since it gives the full email to my wrist.

Just noticed that Hangouts messages don't vibrate or make sounds either. Anyone else found other apps? I'm wondering if it's a Google thing, though Inbox working would argue against that...

Hangouts message just vibrated. It's definitely consistent with Gmail, but now I'm wondering if there's some random element to this. Or if I'm just going crazy. lol
Hello. Same problem here with my Samsung Gear Sport and Oneplus 3T. It's driving me crazy. I haven't tested the Inbox app yet, but I installed Outlook as an alternative to Gmail (which I didn't uninstall). I received one vibration for one first mail via Outlook and then it stopped as well, no vibrations anymore for incoming mails. I have verified all my settings in the Gear app and in the Gmail, Outlook app. My phone is getting the notifications (sound, vibration, icon on top), but on the watch I only have a pop-up of the mail and the small dot on the watch face, but no vibrations. Vibrations work fine with the calendar and the step counter.
My Gear recently (I'm not sure for how long really) stopped giving ANY notifications at all. I've checked all the setting in both the Gear app and Oreo to no avail. It's not much of a Smartwatch if it won't do notifications at all. That's half the reason I bought it (HR monitoring is the other 50%).
I had the same problem with Gmail on my Sport 3. I also use TypeApp as my default email client on phone linked to Gmail. If you allow notifications for this app on the phone (in settings>notifications), then allow notifications in Gear you will get vibrations for all email received. Its not quite as fast at receiving email as the native Gmail client, but it does work. I don't have any other notification issues other than the Gmail one.
I use Inbox (by Google) to receive Gmail emails, instead of Gmail itself. The notifications work for me.

I also have the same problem using my Honor View 10 with my GS3.
When receiving GMAIL new email, the message shows directly on screen without making my watch ring or vibrate.
Using Inbox solves the issue but :
- messages are truncated : only few lines are displayed, there are less options.
- Inbox notifications on my phone (android 8.0) are different : it only shows an small icon on the upper notification bar whereas gmail shows a full popup with message and action buttons. So using Inbox is not good for me
If anyone has a full workaround, please get my thanks in advance.
I have been having this issue since I went on the beta Oreo on my S8. I thought it was an issue with that and I am hoping once the official Oreo comes my notification vibrations will return. After reading this I am now not so sure.
Definitely a problem within Oreo. No vibration on Gear for gmail for me and also not for Viber, though reverting to older Viber helped but I noticed differences in notification options between older and newer Viber. My guess is that Oreo tries to manage notifications differently for some apps that allow it to and this messes up the Gear notification somehow.
Same here. Was working fine with Note 8, switched to Pixel 2 XL and now I'm not getting vibrations for Gmail notifications. Everything else appears to be notifying correctly.

I have the original Pixel XL and everything has been working fine for 3 months. Then about 3-5 days ago I started not getting notification sounds or vibrations on my Gear s3 frontier for gmail or text messages. I have tried resetting both the phone and gear multiple times and starting over completely and it doesn't work. Pretty useless when those two are the most important to me.
Try uninstalling updates for the app. Worked for me with android messages for the exact same problem. It's the only thing that worked actually. Hope this helps!
Seems to be related to native Google apps running on Oreo devices. I noticed that my Google Assistant Reminders also don't vibrate on my watch but Google Hangouts is OK - so hit or miss. I use Textra for SMS so no issues with that.

Same thing here, I updated my S8 to oreo and gmail nots don't vibrate. I realized that from time to time incoming calls neither. Even some kind of reminders do the same. Before updating the phone everything was running ok...
I'm having issues with email notifications from the stock Sammy mail app not showing on my Gear....
It's not even listed in the Gear app.
Tried reinstalling the app and resetted the watch.
This issue appeared when I resetted my phone after flashing oreo.
Any suggestions?

Gear S update resolved Gmail notifications for me.
I'm getting this weird issue where when I dismiss notifications from gmail, they will immediately come back and then dismiss themselves again one by one.

It's really annoying, especially since the notifications are also sent to my gear S2 watch which then just buzzes like crazy as my phone is cycling through all the notifications.
I've used all the google-fu I know and came up with pretty much nothing, so I'm hoping someone here can help me figure this out.
Potentially related: I get notifications for new e-mails pretty much as soon as they come in, but if I go to gmail on my computer and read or delete that e-mail, the notification won't update. It definitely used to, and I'm not really sure when that changed.
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!
I'm unable to play the video to see the notification . . . my internet is terrible right now. Perhaps you could just put up a single photo of the notification, or enter the text into your original post?
Check your setting for "Notification Reminders" under the Accessibility tab & find what you may have unknowingly switched on.
Happened to me once, I know how annoying it can be lol.

I get the same thing. Seems to be nothing to do to stop it however you may be able to reduce it to one notification in the gmail app settings just go to the app settings tap your email then about halfway down tap inbox, sound and vibrate and make sure notify for every msg is unchecked. Hope this helps.

JeffDC - A photo won't show anything, it will either show notifications there, or not, while the issue is when I dismiss a notification, it then comes back again after ~1 sec as another notification, then dismisses again after another couple of seconds, instead of properly dismissing the first time around.
og21 - Notification reminders were already off in accessibility settings.
wombat_combat - Notify for every message is already unchecked.
I get the same, haven't found a fix, but haven't looked hard either.

Same thing here. Haven't been able to find a solution. Galaxy S10 and only happens for my work email inside the secure folder.
Tagging this one again since it appeared on my google search.
On my previous Galaxy S8+ when I dismissed the notifications (notification shade) occasional a gmail notification (one just dismissed) would pop back up then immediately dismiss itself.
On my new S20 FE when I dismiss the notifications occasionally a gmail notification (one just dismissed) pops back up as if it was a new notification and stays there until dismissed again.
This happens when I clear it from the notifications and as soon as I swipe up the Gmail notification shows again. It's been happening for a while and I don't know how to tell them to fix it.
2021, this is still happening to me all the time. Gmail notifications come back to haunt me after clearing them. Sometimes they disappear after a few seconds, sometimes I have to dismiss them again.

I do have a suspicion it might be caused by Samsung Wear, maybe I'll remove notification access from it to see...

Same here. Stock Pixel 4a. Only one Google Account set up (which is a quite old Google Apps account).

Ive got the GW4 46mm BT classic paired with a Note20U both up to date , woke up this morning after watch been fine for a week and put my watch on but no notifications coming thru to the watch did quick restart on both no go.
Reset the watch and only some notifications come thru no email or texts tho whatsapp is ok , checked settings nothing has changed.
Uninstalled galaxy gear app and reset watch still the same missing certain notifications even tho they are ticked .
Watch is set to show even if phone is open.
Any ideas ?
You may need to turn on notifications for the specific apps in the wearable app. I had to do this as I was getting no notifications for any apps.

I've checked all the settings and all ticked . Emaids via the Samsung app now work but texts messages have now stopped showing on the watch even tho notification is ticked !!!

As I never had this problem with the old generation watch I got before (Gear S3 running Tizen), I think we have just to wait for the 1st product OS update.
Youth problems are common on first releases. I hope first OTA will fix this annoying problem.

Same here. Text messages and phone calls appear fine. WhatsApp is a hit and miss, sometimes pops up, sometimes just silently shows the notification dot.
In general, regardless of this bug, notification management on this watch is a mess, very poor user experience.
Some things I noticed:
1. If you're driving with Android Auto, it's impossible to respond or take action on a notification on your watch. Anything you click on (such as 'Delete' on an email notification or 'Mark as Read' on a text message) seemingly registers on the watch but the notification persists and no action is taken.
2. The notification indicator is useless if you have the watch set to wake up the screen when you get a notification. Basically it wakes up the screen to display the notification and from that point on it's considered 'read' so the indicator won't appear, even if you didn't actually look at it. They should've had an option to show the indicator while you have uncleared notifications.
3. Multiple notifications from the same app require you to click on a tiny number icon at the bottom of the notification. Inconvenient. (Think when you have multiple WhatsApp messages from different contacts).
4. Looking at a notification screen gives you no indication of whether or not you have other notifications, you have to try to swipe left to check.
5. To clear a notification while it's open -- you either have to click 'back' to the main notification screen and then swipe up or scroll all the way down to find the 'clear' button -- which sometimes isn't there and you have to click on 'More...' first. How about just allowing me to swipe to dismiss it after reading it?!
They'e put a lot of emphasis on health, but given very little thought about the basics.
I can only confirm and complain that I get 0 notifications from Whatsapp even though I've checked all the notifiation settings multiple times. Also even though I've got the wear os version of telegram installed, the telegram notifications I get are standard notifications that can't show e.g. pictures or voice messages.
It was working fine when I got it on tuesday. It even worked fine after the "day 1 OTA". And now I get nothing at all. Tried everything from granting more permissions to the Watch4 Plugin or disabling battery optimization and stuff. Restarted both devices a lot. It just stopped working. I am glad I am not the only one...

An update for you mine started getting notifications texts,Samsung emails etc . Gmail shows randomly but no vibrate or sound on Gmail other notification have this ,
I don't have a clue whats changed to fix this I already had OTA just woke up a few days ago and they were working phone was upstairs watch downstairs overnight ?!?

Update from me as well. I turned off both phone and watch and turned them back on together after a few minutes. I don't know why it works but it does.
Edit: Nvm it worked for like one notification and then it stopped working again...
Restarting both devices helped me.
I played around with a bit more. Restarting both devices helps...for a while. As soon as the watch reconnects to the phone (i.e. you move too far from your phone) it stops working. Very annoying still.

I'm has been fine since it started working last week had few disconnects while walking away from phone but coming back in to range and its reconnects fine and notifications a work .
It does repeat whatsapp messages that I previously read and gmail still not vibtrate of sound ,

Sounds way better than my status. Do you have a Samsung phone? I am using a Black Shark phone. I still have to investigate this further...

I have the impression that all the notifications work fine now: Gmail, WhatsApp, Nuki, telegram, Smartthings, messages, Gtask.
Hope it will stay ok.
Mean reason for me is having phone on silence but I can see notifications on watch.
Btw the watch 4 classic is a real beast.
What version of plugin do you have?
I still have no gmail vibrate.
