Android phone root - General Questions and Answers

Hey,
I have an android smartphone called chameleon 5r single that has those biometric functions and staff. it has a modified kernel, not rooted, and not that popular, I could not find any stock rom for it to extract the boot.img file, And I need to root it to customize some functions. It is not rooted, it does not have a custom recovery, And I need to at least dump the boot.img file to create a twrp custom recovery for it. Any recommendations/solutions?

I rewrite this from forum.xda-developers.com :
ClockworkMod is a software developer which offers various Android apps. It is primarily known for its custom recovery, commonly referred to as CWM (ClockworkMod) Recovery, used in many custom made ROMs. Once flashed, this recovery replaces the stock recovery of your Android device. Using this recovery you can then do various system level operations on your LG G Pro 2 , such as create and restore images backups, flash a portion of or an entire custom ROM, and use other developer tools. ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) is a replacement recovery option for Android devices, made by Koushik "Koush" Dutta. It is based on the Android 2.1 (Eclair) recovery image. Features include Nandroid backup, adb shell, advanced update.zip options (ignore asserts and signature checks), and file browser for choosing update.zips
The ROM Manager app may be used for installing CWM, overwriting the device's stock recovery. As with the stock recovery, CWM can apply software changes to the device. Unlike the stock recovery, CWM is able to entirely replace the device's primary Android operating system ("flashing a new ROM"), including with aftermarket replacements such as CyanogenMod. Once installed, CWM it is accessed by turning your device off, then triggering the bootloader prompt by holding down some device-dependent button combination as it is turned on. CWM is also known as clockwork and CW recovery. They also provide the following apps:
ROM Manger: An app to backup/restore NANDroid backups
Tether: An app used for tethering regardless of carrier based tethering plans
Helium: An app used to backup user and system data on your device without the need for root
DeskSMS: An app to send and receive text messages from your email, browser, or instant messenger client
TWRP, short for Team Win Recovery Project, is an open-source recovery image for Android-based devices. It provides a touch-enabled interface which allows users to install third-party firmwares and backup the current system, which are often unsupported by stock recoveries. Therefore, it's often installed when rooting Android devices.

How to port roms to your mtk with android device

HOW TO PORT ROMS TO YOUR MTK WITH ANDROID DEVICE
Most of us have always wanted to use custom roms but there just no custom roms for our devices so we just use different app launchers and uninstall some bloatware to make our stock rom feel good.
Rom porting makes it possible to use a custom rom on your mtk device provided in this tutorial they have the same chipset (example: mtk 6582 ported to mtk6582).
THINGS NEEDED :
1. B1 archiver / ES FILE EXPLORER
2. Root Browser.
4. A rooted device is also needed but not much important if you have CWM INSTALLED WITHOUT ROOT.
PROCEDURE :
1. Make a backup of your current rom, preferably CWM backup. You can either use MTK DROID TOOLS or ROM MANAGER...
The location of the backup will be at clockwork/backup/"date and time of the backup ". This is very important since we will need stuff from the back up and we will also use the backup to recover the phone should the ported rom give any problems.
2. At this point I presume you have already downloaded the apps needed and the custom rom you want to use which is in a zip format( this was not important but I had to bring it up cause I know zombies could be reading this.
3. Now extract the custom Rom with Root Browser. if you extracted with Root Browser then the location will be "speedsoftware/extracted/"folder with the name of the custom rom "".
4. Now open Root Browser and open the folders side by side "custom rom which will be ported at one side and other side will be used for searching for the location of the things needed for the custom rom.
5. Delete the following from the Custom rom:
Boot.img
logo.bin (You do this only when you like the Your current logo.bin)
system/vendor
system/usr
system/lib/hw
system/lib/modules
system/lib/libncurses.so
system/etc/firmware
system/etc/vold.fstab
system/etc/vold.fstab.nand
system/etc/bluetooth
6. Now that you have deleted them from the custom rom replace them. You will find the boot.img at clockworkmod/back/"folder with date and time"/boot.img. The rest of the files and folders will br located in the Root /system. Just copy and paste
7. Now at the custom Rom panel go back to where you find the "META-INF" folder, open /google/android will now long press on "updater script" and tap on open with then select text editor.
8. Check The mount & format point check something like this mmcblk0p. A number is always written after the "P" replace the number of your BASE to PORT.
9. Check multi select in B1 archiver Select ( do not archive the folder the files are in but the individual files in the folder containing the extracts)
10. Compress to ZIP file wait till the process finished. Now boot to recovery and flash your ROM
Good luck in porting Your Rom... I have used this method to port 5 roms including AROMA ROMS. and I have never ported a Rom with a pc before
MAYBE U NEED TO EXTRACT THE BOOT IMG TOO IF THIS DIDNT WORKED
DO IT AS FOLLOWS
Requirements:
-- BusyBox (cpio, gunzip and gzip is mandatory)
-- /System Write Permissions (Does not need to be a modified kernel)
-- Terminal Emulator
-- ES File Explorer (or similar)
-- Hex Editor (or use of DD)
-- Open up your android terminal emulator.
-- Now go ahead and pull your boot.img from your device (or use another one if you wish)
-- Open up your boot.img with the Hex Editor and look for: ANDROID!. Remove everything before it so that the ANDROID! header is the first to be read then save it over top of the boot.img. NOTE: This is only required if you are using a stock boot.img.
OR USE THIS IF U DIDNT UNDERSTOOD THIS

update.zip and Master Key vulnerability

I need to dump phone contents in forensics way, but without hardware tampering. Android is 4.1, stock unrooted ROM with patternlock, stock recovery. I don't want to install custom recovery, but can do everything with update.zip and appropriate scripts. My question is, does the vulnerability with master key applies only to *.apk files or can it be used to pass through signature verification of update.zip in stock recovery?

Rooted MHA-L29C567B183 Flashable

Is there anyway to flash a full ROM already rooted older version for this model?
This would remove the step to return to factory initial condition to take the upgrade? (I know the device is young, but some established phones this is the way to do it if bootloader and modem is up to date) so the first question is possible to create such a ROM and post?
You could use https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/extract-dat-marshmallow-lollipop-easily-t3334117
extract system.img from update.app, unpack system.img using Imgextractor.exe.
Unpack boot.img from update.app.
Extract boot.img using Android Image Kitchen.
Preroot ramdisk.
Make a flashable zip from extracted system.img and boot.img. Set up permissions, copy files..., etc in updater-script. Make the script flash boot.img.
Done. (In theory, I've not built a rom for any Huawei device yet.)
But to answer your question: Yes.
Just look at the KangVIP roms over in Development. You could just build a stock rom with root.
Edit: Imgextractor actually saves permissions to a file.
Edit 2: You could just flash the newer boot.img in TWRP and root it there, then extract boot image using dd and include that in your rom.
OR use su in /system/bin/
Edit 3: Any rom makers here? Would VENDOR and PRODUCT need to be extracted and flashed as well? (Assuming you're on a pre B183 C567 stock rom)
Nevermind, system.img is unextractable :/
Or the tool I use is not compatible with android N.
That would be awesome I'm stuck on c636 and have no way of going to c567 without paying.
Your headed in a direction, lots of us owners have been waiting for...

Benefits of 567 over 636?

How to create a pre-rooted stock rom?

Hello,
I have a phone that I would like to root, unfortunately the bootloader is locked. There are some pre-rooted stock roms around that you could flash using fastboot without unlocking the bootloader. Unfortunately the latest version of the firmware is not available in pre-rooted form.
I downloaded the lastest official firmware (an update.zip package) from the website of the manufacturer and installed it on my phone using the stock recovery. Now the only thing that I need to do is modify the system image and flash it back in the phone.
I converted the system.new.dat file that was included inside the zip package into a raw image that I can easily mount and modify from my computer (I use Debian Jessie). How could I modify the system image to include the su binary and a Superuser up (SuperSu, or equivalent) and convert it into a format that I can flash using fastboot?
I'm running Android 6.0.1 with SELinux set to enforce. The device is an Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ZE550KL. I've posted here because the process of modding a stock rom should be almost doable regardless of the phone manufacturer
