So I used msm tool to go back to 9.5.3 to unbrick my OP7 Pro and then updated the firmware to 9.5.4 because apparently TWRP fails on adb unless you go to firmware 9.5.4 or above I believe. So I did adb commands and did the TWRP I'm file and booted into TWRP just fine. Then adb sideloaded and flashed TWRP zip file and TWRP sticks fine until I go back into recovery and flashed the magisk beta 20 version and 19 does the same thing. After I flashed magisk zip hell breaks loose. Literally TWRP won't stick unless I go back to adb and do fast boot then twrp.img file and force it to show up even then if I were to adb sideloaded it again and flash the TWRP zip again and see if it sticks without flashing magisk it still will not hold. I don't understand what is happening. I just want to get my OnePlus 7 pro with magisk and working g TWRP without any troubles at all. Should I update it to a different firmware or is the magisk or TWRP files I downloaded wrong what is the deal???? TWRP is the 3.3.4 or whatever and so is the img file and magisk is 20 version please let me know the solution it makes no sense to me. I have to keep msm unbricking back to 9.5.3 and it's pissing me off.
You got two ways:
- flash TWRP
- Boot to TWRP
- flash Magisk (DO NOT REBOOT)
- flash TWRP again (use the TWRP installer zip always)
Or...
- Flash TWRP
- Flash Magisk
- Boot device
- Flash TWRP installer as a module in Magisk
Didn't work
I tried all methods stated above and none of them are confirmed working on 9.5.4 Could you confirm it working on that firmware please? I just flashed twrp zip 3.3.4 file through magisk no luck and magisk is no longer rooted now with twrp... I'd have to run adb command and fastboot boot twrp.img to get twrp to come back and reflash magisk now... However that means twrp will still not stick at all. Which doesn't make sense. If you get it working on this firmware please let me know because I've been trying to get both to stick for awhile now. I did get it to work on another firmware but I couldn't remember which one... But technically it should work on firmware 9.5.4 because that is the firmware that supports adb commands where as 9.5.3 does not. This is gm-1917 model global/US 9.5.3 is the first firmware it comes with.
Want to chime in here and add I have the GM1915 and I have the same issue even after following the above steps. I've updated and used the MSM tool multiple times but TWRP never stays on the recovery, in fact, I usually find the OEM recovery to be gone completely after flashing so if I attempt to boot to recovery it just sends me to my bootloader.
Bump
im serous this is the worst device i ever had to root in my life. ive rooted meany devices and modded meany other stuff without issue, had one brick that i was then able to restore and get right the 2nd time. this time however this is the 2nd! pixel that has went into an unrecoverable bootlap when following root tutorials via magisk.
when i then attempt to unbrick eaither of the devices the fast boot official flash all dosent cut it, and adb ota restore dosen't work as recovery menu is destoyed., and dosent revive when original boot.img is flashed. when i looked at the first phone what i found on net is hawrdware issue can cause corruption in flash and cause them to be unrecoverable...... but a 2nd one now? is this upside down world? In my opinion, you should use root tutorials from your phones forum, not magisk. You haven't explained what your steps were or even asked a question. If you tried using stable channel/files, try the canary debug channel and files instead. I've never had any problem rooting the pixels though I've read where the magisk version 20.2 has caused bootloops for some phones.
allright so it might just be the magisk. it was magisk 20.1 first phone magisk 20.2 2nd phone. i cannot boot into recovery mode and fastboot mode restoring ota dosen't work and it still bootlaps weather i restore just the boot_A and boot_B or whole thing. also where can i find unbrick and root tutorials made for my phone when looked it was mostly magisk and little TWRP.

Hi, I thing, that you need to download factory image (not OTA) for walleye:
Code:
https://developers.google.com/android/images#walleye
Latest SDK Platform Tools:
Code:
https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html
than boot to bootloader, open command prompt in folder with extracted SDK platform tools run flash-all.bat script with command:
Code:
flash-all.bat
This should format/flash your phone to "factory" state. Good luck.
Btw, I have no problem with magsik 20.1 neither with 20.2...
Just to rule the magisk thing out, I recently bought a used pixel 2 to replace my broken og pixel and I got round to unlocking it last night and had no issue gaining root using magisk 20.2 following the usual process.
Updated to latest platform tools.
Unlocked the bootloader via adb
Skipped through the set up and re enabled usb debugging
Rebooted to bootloader
fastboot booted twrp 3.3.0-0 via adb
flashed magisk 20.2 from fastbooted twrp
rebooted and all good.
If you are having problems booting to the existing recovery you could try fastboot booting the latest twrp in adb (may not work if you had a pin set up as may not be able to decrypt) and try flashing the original or fresh boot.img from there other than that follow the previous post and do a full re flash to stock.
Good luck
Hey. Following issue: I used to have my phone rooted and wanted to update it. Since I couldn't get a zip file from the official OnePlus webpage I used the download button from the system update and got it from there. Of course it also automatically removes your root so I had to try to flash twrp again. My bootloader is still unlocked (debugging and oem both activated) so that wasn't any issue. I got the newest enchilada and tried the flash boot command with the twrp enchilada image, however after a short message including hoot and and an ok at the end my phone goes into the fastboot icon and is stuck there until I restart it. Twrp doesn't start whatsoever. I also tried the fastboot --set-active= command but that didn't help as well. Adb is also on the newest version and I also got the newest enchilada. Any ideas?
P.S: already searched a lot on the forum but none of the aforementioned solutions did anything thanks for any help regardlessly

I have a OnePlus 7 Pro on Android 11, OOS 11.0.0.2. The bootloader is unlocked. The devices runs absolutely fine unrooted. I have been wanting to root for quite some time. I patched the boot.img file of the ROM using latest Magisk Canary (app-debug.apk) from the GitHub repository. When I flash the .img through ADB, it is flashed successfully.
But when I reboot the phone, the phone is stuck on OnePlus' 'Two circling dots animation' (bootloop) and never starts. These are the commands that I enter one-by-one in CMD prompt on my laptop:
adb devices
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot "D:\Downloads\boot_patched.img"
fastboot reboot

So, to get out of this issue, I flash the stock boot image using similar commands. Then the phone boots successfully, but, of course, it is unrooted.
I even tried these commands, still no luck.

fastboot flash boot_b "D:\Downloads\boot_patched.img"

I also tried patching using the stable Magisk release (Magisk v23.0), still nothing.
What am I doing wrong?

I had an issue before, with the Canary APK. Try installing the v23 app and repatch your boot IMG with it. Worth a shot.
I tried, again, with v23. Same bootloop occuring.
Do you perhaps have the magisk app installed, I know of modules causing these sort of bootloop issues.

This OnePlus 8T thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...in-eu-us-kb2000-kb2001-kb2003-kb2005.4178675/ says to boot, not flash, the patched boot image. In other words, use fastboot boot "D:\Downloads\boot_patched.img" and then do a direct install in Magisk.
That's the process I used and it worked perfectly.
Note: my phone is an 8T.

Thanks, I will try this method and report back.
Btw, after you booted using this method, for how much time did the boot animation showed up (the two circling white dots around bigger red dot)?
Edit: I tried this method. No luck. The boot animation goes on 5-10 minutes, at which point I reboot into bootloader and flash the stock boot image.
Anyway, I ended up downgrading to OxygenOS 10.3.8.
Starting to give up as well... Never had any issues before (on Android 10) to flash root on O7Pro, but ever since Android 11, I keep having "boot loop" issues. Aka, the boot logo keeps loading and never boots into the OS. Only works again if I re-patch the original boot.img file.
This is starting to get.. VERY, VERY annoying. Why isn't there any proper method of getting this to work?
Not sure which boot.img you using.
But I face similar problem a week ago, and i fix that by using another .img then all fine.
I download from:

i'm running oxygen os 11.0.2.1 with root access. i'm running with the latest version of magisk, v.23.0. i haven't had any problems with android 11 and root. my suggestion is to make sure that you're patching the correct boot image. when an update is available, i download the full update, copy the zip to a computer, and then use payload dumper to extract the boot image. that's the boot image i use for patching.

I am too afraid to upgrade to OOS 11, only to find out root doesn't work for me. The restore function of this unofficial TWRP version is buggy so can't really depend on it to restore OOS 10.3.8. So, I have decided to stay on the latter until Team Recovery releases a proper update for Android 11.

hey Marek, i was on android 12, i flashed twrp recovery then i relocked the bootloader!
so i was stuck in bootloader infinity loop, then i downgraded my phone to an very old firmware it is begin with 18 and ends with .raw archive format and mine was beginn 31 and ends wtih zip archive format (it has payload.bin) inside.
so i get failed flashing manuelly the last update of android 12 also the last update (android 13). OTA can nothing getting. what should i do now if you don't mind!?
Edit: the phone doesnt charging and loops now at logo
Hello, you should incrementally update from your version by downloading each upgrade package from Asus site which is newer then your current version and flash them one by one. Or you can find the newest package which you are able to install and repeat this procedure until you can flash the newest Android 13 package. Your current old firmware cannot unpack newest package so you need update by steps.
Check this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/warning-read-before-locking-bootloader.4327977/post-87808387
Other method (untested): Extract latest payload.bin and flash all partitions to inactive slot than change it to active using fastboot

hey, Thanks for replay, i am facing now another messeges.
1- the phone does not charging at all
2- when i plug in into chrage its reboot again and again.
3- the bootloader is open, but when i try to flash any files through bootloader i get:
FAILED (Status read failed (Too many links))
or
FAILED (remote: 'Warning: battery's capacity is very low
to recovery mode i am unable to go there
i tried boot or flash the twrp.img also only boot.img also flash_raw_and_wipe_data.cmd
nothing helps me!!!
Hello, can you try to keep phone on charger for a few hours? Maybe it will charge enough to enter recovery mode. You should never flash twrp by fastboot on a/b devices as they don't have recovery partition. Please restore stock boot.img extracted from payload.bin and after this try booting into fastbootD, not fastboot and then attempt flashing complete firmware package (raw). To boot into fastbootD, keep holding volume keys, when you see a bootloader screen use volume keys to select option "recovery mode". You should now enter stock recovery. Ussing vol keys select option "enter fastboot". You should be now in fastbootD. This is possible only with boot.img without twrp installed as fastbootD is a part of stock recovery, magisk is fine.
Remember to perform all flashing operations with usb port on the left side, the bottom one does not work in bootloader. And make sure you are using latest adb/fastboot binaries, these from popular auto-installers are usually outdated and may cause errors during flashing.

I've tried leaving it on overnight and it never charges, there's even no charging lights.
Yesterday I tried flashing via Bugjeager and it didn't work either (betwenn to android devices)
Although the bootloader is unlocked, it gives me a Not Allowed In Lock State message!
the current version of the installed firmware is that old that i flashed WW_ZS673KS_18.0810.2101.95_M2.13.24.9-ASUS_1.1.46_Phone-user.raw, it is non extractable so i cant get the boot.img of it!
I am attaching here the matching boot.img for your 2101.95 firmware. Your phone boots to bootloader as I can see on the video but cannot enter recovery as you have corrupted your boot partition. Can you pm me output of fastboot getvar all command? Please do not post it publicly as it may contain private data such as serial numbers. Good luck!
Are you sure that you have unlocked bootloader? I understand that you have relocked your bootloader and since then your phone never booted into working system. It is not possible to unlock bl with fastboot, only with asus app which requires working Android system

Sometimes I can be a bit slow to respond as I am on the university during day. Hopefully your issue seems to be possible to be solved just by flashing raw firmware and wiping data partition.

Actually you can debloat fully systemless, just create magisk module which replaces bloatware directories with empty folders. Or even better use this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/module-terminal-debloater-v17-3-2-debloat-systemlessly.3584163/
It is an automated way to make packages fully disappear without remounting system as rw. This module replaces them with empty folders, just like in the manual solution. The packages disappear from system completely and if you install any debloated app from play store or apk it will be installed as user (non-system) app.

The packages disappear from system completely and if you install any debloated app from play store or apk it will be installed as user (non-system) app.

Oh wow thank you man I'll give it a shot.
I found a gui-based app on github to systemlessly debloat, it is easier to use than this script I posted link to. Here is the link: https://github.com/sunilpaulmathew/De-Bloater
Does anyone have the full RAW firmware, flashed via fastboot? Thank you all
