[MOD][ROOT] GAppsMod (ex GoogleDialerMod) - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

IntroductionGAppsMod (ex GoogleDialerMod) is an Android application able to unlock hidden features (e.g., available only in some countries or on certain devices) in Google applications (such as Phone Messages by Google). Root is required.
The patches are applied to the "Phenotype DB", a hidden Google Play Services database that tracks which features are available or not for all Google applications installed on Android devices. This approach should allow mods to survive application updates and keep the original Google applications unpatched.
Features
Supports all arm / arm64 / x86 / x86_64 devices and all Android versions from 5.0 (Lollipop)
Enable / disable hidden features for all users at once when Android "multiple users" mode is in use
Allows users to list and change all Phenotype DB boolean flags for all installed Google applications
A convenient home screen brings together the suggested mods for the most used Google applications
Currently suggested mods
For the Phone application (link):
Force enable call recording feature, even on unsupported devices or in unsupported countries (ref)
Enable also automatic call recording ("always record") feature based on caller (otherwise only available in India)
Silence the annoying "registration has started / ended" call recording announcements (only on Phone version <= 94.x)
Force enable call screening and "revelio" (advanced automatic call screening) features, even on unsupported devices or in unsupported countries (ref)
Allows users to choose the language for call screening
For the Messages application (link):
Force enable debug menu (it can also be enabled without mods by entering *xyzzy* in the application's search field)
Force enable message organization ("supersort")
Force enable marking conversations as unread
Force enable verified SMS settings menu (ref)
Force enable always sending images by Google Photos links in SMS (ref)
Force enable nudges and birthday reminders (ref)
Force enable Bard AI draft suggestions ("magic compose") (ref)
Force enable smart features: spotlights suggestions (ref), stickers suggestions, smart compose (ref), smart actions (smart reply) in notifications
And much more coming soon
Troubleshooting:
After enabling / disabling any mod, please force close and reopen a few times the Google application you are trying to tweak. You may also need to reboot for the changes to take effect.
Before to report an issue try to delete Google apps data, to reboot your phone and to try again what didn't work

So the update worked allowing me to get into options. But after changing the setting and force stopping the phone app a couple of times, I don't see the recording option. I also deleted the app after modifying settings.

You were right. There was another bug related to the new Android 11 Scoped Storage. I now released version 1.02 which should fix that too. I hope it will work for you this time. Sorry again for the inconvenience.

It should work on any device with Android 5 - 11 and with Google Dialer installed (beta version is better).

Poco X3 Rooted ArrowOS 11.0
Option exist but it says it's not available in your country.
UPDATE : after a few modifications the call recording option also disappeared .

Thanks for the app !
It works on my new Xiaomi Mi 11 running Android 11. But it seems the recording announcement insists on playing when starting/stopping recording, even with the 'slience call recording alerts' switched on. Not sure if the other party will hear the announcements though, will need more testing.
But it is great otherwise ! Cheers

Hi, thanks for reporting your issue.
Are you using the latest version of GoogleDialerMod v1.02?
Could you please tell me which files do you have in /data/data/com.google.android.dialer/files/callrecordingprompt after enabling the "Silence sound alerts" switch?

Yes, using the latest version.
4 files:
ending_voice-en_US.wav ending_voice-zh_HK.wav starting_voice-en_US.wav starting_voice-zh_HK.wav
And it is apparently using the zh_HK.wav files for the alerts, assuming these .wav files are the Chinese language announcements. (My locale is Hong Kong, maybe that's why)

Uhm in theory GoogleDialerMod should force Google Dialer to use the US file, which it replaces with an empty file.
I'll try to troubleshoot this and I'll let you know.
Have you already tried to disable and re-enable the switch and force closing (via Android settings) and reopening the dialer a couple of times?

After trying your suggestions it worked ! Don't know what did it, could the the repeated toggling, could be the force closing, or it may have been just a reboot that did it. So glad to have a fully working phone recorder. Cheers and thanks again !

No luck friend, still have no recording option.

NFC sounds interesting since it's quick and easy to use. I'll keep that in mind and start looking around for another NFC device for testing since my only NFC device at this time is my Galaxy Nexus.
Can this app be use to backup app data? Like ID and Password.
doesnt work with whatsapp... its wipe the app data...
working with anothers apps
its a good application and good luck
@nelsdzyre You can use this app to save your app data on another device and see this as a backup. If you want to do a backup using a single device you would need something like a backup tool like TitaniumBackup. If a backup succeeds depends on the app you want to backup because some apps encrypt their data with a device specific key so this will not work but maybe a local backup using TitaniumBackup will.
@yogevx this may be a limitation by WhatsApp, does syncing WhatsApps data work if you try to push the app data manually using TitaniumBackup or any similiar backup tools?

Great app! 10/10
Was wondering if on future updates you could add some functionality to not only share App data, but apps themselves? I find myself having to manually pull the apk for Whatsapp from my phone using TiBu every time I want to update Whatsapp on my WiFi Tablet and thought this would help alleviate those issues.

the only risk to consider is "piracy" .. you may want to consider some sort of google acct authentication or something similar so ppl cant just share any app with anyone.. you'll run into some major legal issues
idea
talk with google about mix it with google drive
@mcmb03 piracy was one of our discussion points but since apps aren't saved in a "special" location anymore and even paid apps can be moved to sdcard without rooting but are protected using some kind of license verification like Google's LVL (License Verification Library), this is not a problem and especially no legal issue.
You can share any app with anyone as soon as you root your device. But your friend will not be able to run it, because paid apps have built in license verification libraries.
tl;dr: No piracy possible without modifying (e.g. hacking) paid apps.
TF201 (Stock) ICS
HD2 (Typhoon CM7 3.8.8) Gingerbread
Both using the same sync key.
The HD2 finds the TF201.
The TF201 struggles to find the HD2 sometimes. A closing and re-opening of the app is needed.
Sync from the HD2 to TF201:
Click on TF201. The TF201 displays the big AppSync logo.
The list of apps on the TF201 appear. Nice.
Tried "Cut the Rope" and "Wold of Goo" push from HD2 to TF201.
Failed.
Drops back to the device selection screen on both devices.
Sync from the TF201 to HD2:
If the HD2 appears (it usually doesn't)
Click on HD2. The HD2 displays the big AppSync logo.
The list of apps on the HD2 appear.
Tried several games push from HD2 to TF201.
Sync Done appears, but nothing actually works.
Tried push from TF201 to HD2 (Hungry Shark).
Failed.
Drops back to the device selection screen on both devices.
Bug 1: The screen turned off as I clicked HD2. When I turned the screen back on, the listening for device screen appeared on the HD2. On the TF201, the apps list still stayed. When clicking on an app, "an unknown error occurred" followed by a "connection timed out" error. The app doesn't like the screen turning off. It seems to drop the connection when this occurs.
Bug 2: On the HD2, the TF201 appears multiple times. Each time it goes back to the device selection screen after a sync failed, it adds another device. Same name, same IP address. Clicking each one had the same functionality. An annoying bug, The same issue happened on the TF201 when the sync failed. Getting devices to connect to each other (I think after clicking on the other device) removes some, if not all the multiple entries.
Overall, the app did not work for me, but a good idea. This app has great potential.
Automatic sync of selected apps would be awesome, and more intuitive icons than >> and << . I need to click them to see what they do, and I think on ICS, they may be swapped around.
@xebozone thank you very much for your detailed report, I will have a look into this asap and include the fix in next version. :good:

I flashed with latest international ROM in order the solve the problem, ROM shared per below thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nu...bia-z17mini-international-rom-nx569j-t3711979
I am finally happy with the ROM after lots of tinkering. Common issues solved:
1. Google apps: Give permissions to Google play services and the problem is solved.
2. Password on boot: Wipe data or format data in twrp and its working
3. Dialer crash: Delete every Chinese app or default app if you want but don't delete the launcher, it crashes the dialer and doesn't let u update the contacts.
* Still need a workaround for Neo Safe app permission
For any other issue: Do let me know.

[GUIDE] [NO ROOT]: Activate FULL Google Assistant!

*****UPDATE APRIL 5, 2018 - This guide will activate the FULL Google Assistant!***** USE THIS GOOGLE APP AS OF DECEMBER 8 2018, https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...oogle-app-8-33-6-21-arm-android-apk-download/
Many of you probably recall my last guide on getting 'ok Google' to work. Well Sort of: How to guide: Enable 'ok Google' to work from ANY screen. You may also recall it was a bit of work to get it working and the downside was the modifications didn't hold after a reboot, assuming the system didn't shut the service down first. So I put the project on hold until I could figure it out.
Well it's been 6 months and I am happy to report I have found a permanent solution which will activate the FULL Google Assistant on ANY non-rooted or rooted Amazon device. All we will do today is make a few small edits within the settings of FireOS. The modifications WILL survive reboots!
If you are using Alexa, you will Have to disable it and install the latest version of the Google App located at this link. Make sure to also have Google Play Services installed.
****WARNING: THE FOLLOWING APPLICATION IS VERY POWERFUL. MAKING THE WRONG EDITS CAN RESULT IN A POTENTIAL, UNRECOVERABLE BRICK. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU DO TO YOUR DEVICES.****
1. You can download Settings Database Editor, install it and make the edits within that application (not recommended) or you can follow along with me and we'll use ADB. But if you do choose the application, you need to grant it the proper permission. Please plug your tablet into your PC and open an ADB window and type the following line below:
Code:
adb shell pm grant by4a.setedit22 android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
2. Open Settings Database Editor. You will see three choices at the top: system, secure and global. Please, ONLY select 'secure'.
3. Scroll all the way to the bottom and you will see:
Code:
voice_interaction_service
voice_recognition_service
4. Tap on voice_interaction_service. A window will pop up that says 'edit setting'. Delete any text currently in the window if there is any and type the text below into it with NO SPACES:
Code:
com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voiceinteraction.GsaVoiceInteractionService
OR use ADB:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure voice_interaction_service com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voiceinteraction.GsaVoiceInteractionService
5. Tap on voice_recognition_service. A window will pop up that says 'edit setting'. Delete any text currently in the window if there is any and type the text below into it with NO SPACES:
Code:
com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voicesearch.serviceapi.GoogleRecognitionService
OR use ADB:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure voice_recognition_service com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voicesearch.serviceapi.GoogleRecognitionService
6. Scroll all the way back to the top of Settings Database Editor. At the very top of the list, tap 'Add new setting'. For the first entry type:
Code:
assistant
and tap 'save changes.' Now type in in the second entry:
Code:
com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voiceinteraction.GsaVoiceInteractionService
and save changes.
7. In the list, locate the setting
Code:
alexa_enabled
and tap on it. Change the number from a 1 to 0 and save changes.
That's it. You should be done! Now reboot your tablet using ADB:
Code:
adb reboot
8. Now it's time to configure your Assistant. Open the Google App. > Tap three lines on bottom right corner > Settings > Voice > 'Ok Google Detection' > Set the preferences to your liking. You will have to train your voice model so make sure you do that first. When done, tap back twice. Make sure your search language is set to English and your search region is The United States. See the next step as to why.
9. Go here and download the Google Assistant APK, install it and open it. You will get a message saying your device isn't compatible with Assistant, but that's ok. Installing the APK will ensure your tablet receives the proper upgrades when Assistant is made available for 5.0 devices.
I hope everyone enjoys this! I am so excited to get this working
Thanks, great job! I can confirm it works great on Fire HD 8 OS 5.6.0.1. I even think the microphone is more responsive with this method. Yes, Google Assistant is somewhat more limited on Lollipop, but it's still useful anyway.
I used the Settings Database Editor app. It's not "scary" if you follow the directions. It makes me wonder what more can be done to this little tablet to make it more "root-like" with Settings Database Editor and ADB.
Thanks!

I'll be making a thread sometime soon on the tweaks I've been able to come up with. For not having root, it's pretty impressive.
Awesome bro.
I'm using fire 8 in India, they have disabled Alexa based on location. If I change my Amazon account location to US, I get Alexa. But, changing back the location to India, disables Alexa again. Alexa option won't be visible in the settings menu.
Do you think, is there anything I can edit in settings app to get Alexa?

That would be awesome, as I couldn't find much other info at all about this app and its uses.
There also seems to be a whole bunch of AOSP settings hidden in the software you obviously can't use, such as mobile networks, GPS, and the LED notification light.
Tweaks I have done so far:
Toggle either full or partial immersive mode in certain apps
Remove lockscreen ads (doesn't work in 5.6)
Nothing else I tried yet I couldn't already do in the regular settings app.

This worked for me but some functionality is missing. If I say "Okay Google, set a timer for [x] minutes." It will just do a Google search for those words. It doesn't automatically open up the Clock app and start the timer. This is with the default Clock app disabled and the Google Clocl app installed.

In the past few weeks I learned that unless the app is actually uninstalled, the system still recognizes it as an app. THis will be as close to the assistant as we get, until it's rolled out to all of Lollipop devices. Also, without Gapps being part of /system/priv-app, a lot of the functionality won't be possible. However, I do see to recall the voice assistant working for the alarm, or basic system functions. It could be possible, that Google stopped that function to lollipop devices or it's just simply mucked by one, or Amazon patched it as well.
Assistant now fully working
Been checking daily whether launching the assistant shortcut would work. Yesterday night it went from assistant not available on this device to Google assistant is not your chosen assistant. After following this guide and rebooting now I have full Google assistant with home control etc!

Does this include the full assistant you get in 6.0+?

I also just got the full Google Assistant yesterday afternoon. It appears to be the same as what's on 6.0+ tablets.

This is great. It looks like they likely finally rolled it out to Lollipop devices. Let's hope it isn't another mistake!

Yup, the full assistant experience. I have google's clock, play music, spotify installed, works with all of them just like on normal 6.0+
Bet they're enabling server side for all tablets now 5.1+ and above, even though the page still says 6.0+ on google's site. Wake word seems to work with screen on but not off. Still so much better than alexa. You also lose the long press home to activate, tried using a nav button app on xposed but that ended up breaking the framework and I almost couldn't use the tablet.

There are a few edits in the framework that fix that and allow for the home button to long press to the Installed assistant app. I forget where though. When I get home I'll look through my notes and find it once I set this up again. With root it's a fairly easy fix.

Confirmed. Appears the FULL assistant is now available using my original methods. However it requires only the first 2 ADB commands to get everything working. This also works on Fire Launcher which makes this even more glorious.
I haven't had luck with this for the 8" HD as far as the full functionality goes. Now that Alexa works hands-free for it, I don't see it as a big deal but it works great for the 10", though

Tested it in HD 8 and worked perfectly. Haven't tried it on my HD 10 yet.
Side note: I've tried this on other 5.1 devices, not from Amazon, and it doesn't work. So this is likely a fluke from and update to the Google app. The other suggestion would be to try the beta APK. I started on a fresh FireOS 5.4.0.0 and downloaded play services and Google beta APK. Not sure if that makes a difference or not. None the less, get it while you can if you can

I'm sure I just did something wrong then cuz all I was getting was a google search everytime I tried to get it to work with the 8HD. I'll give it another go on Sunday
keep getting this error at step 1... wish there was a bat or something I could download for this

To use ADB, you MUST have USB debugging enabled in developer options.
If you're using Windows, make sure you use Command Prompt (cmd.exe) instead of PowerShell.
Open a command prompt window in the location of the Platform Tools. Type in "ADB shell" first, then wait for it to connect. You may need to allow debugging from your computer on your tablet from a pop-up dialog. Then type in the rest of the command starting at "pm grant" after [email protected][device codename].

Bump-- Any answers to this? The link above is a bunch of neanderthals. I just ordered the 8T but may have to return it if call recording doesn't work. Does it work after 8T root?
Thx

It depends on your model and where you are. If you don't have it enabled, like the U.S. unlocked KB2005 variants, you cannot enable it through the system right now. No matter what model you have, there will be a way once we get root. I am sure there are regular apps you can get as well. I use TotalRecall which lets you choose the method for recording, including root.

LOL, that's very very true. But we have to live on with this situation. On rooted phones you can get most call recorders to work, after reading their help files (skvalex Call Recorder, Boldbeast, I have both paid versions).
Disadvantage is, with root, secured apps mostly do not work any more, issues with Widevine Level 1 and SafetyNet will arise, and there is no certified Play Store for GPay any more. In addition, Android 11 forces more security than previous versions. You may need to go back to older phones (i.e. my Moto Z3 Play) to get what you want. For my part, fixing all these issues (with Magisk, the like) is too much work, which likely has to be repeated after monthly security updates.
I'm on KB2003 (EU) and we don't even have half of the OnePlus apps. Messaging and Phone for example, have been changed to Google's. Not to mention there's some other preinstalled Google bloat, although you can easily uninstall them as a lot of them aren't system apps. We also still have netflix added as bloat too? I'm not sure what's happening anymore

On Pixel 3a XL I was able to root Android 11 and skvalex Call Recorder works on that. But I am worried that it will not do the trick on the 8T. Now I'm just waiting to push the order button - but I NEED call recording. It's the most crucial feature of a phone I purchase.
I'm not rooted on OP8T and I used jOnePlus Tools and enabled it using shell commands then enabled call recording and it works with native phone app....if I had it rooted I'd rather have truephone+skvalex but that's my preference

Which 8T? KB2003, OOS 11.0.1.2.KB05BA and com.google.android 55.1.335513515 dialer?
Until now, I only installed skvalex CR and gave it adb permissions and device helper access as requested. Did not test this, though.

T-Mobile US device.
Sorry, I don't see anything useful in your 7 seconds imgur video. But thanks for your efforts, maybe it is helpful for other users with your 8T version.
EU variant (KB2003) has no native OP dialer, it's Google's com.google.android. That said, jOnePlus Tools show a switch with enabled call recorder and call recorder service, but nothing is recorded because there is no call recorder in EU firmware or Google Dialer, which can be enabled.

I would look on the playstore or apk mirror for the OP dialer and see if you can get the apk that way and use it

Does not open after installation and setup (rights, telephone standard app), (OnePlus Phone 4.9.5 August 7, 2020). I think it is not possible without root on Android 11 and several additional "Phone and Messaging Storage" and "Phone Services" apk, at least in Europe.

If you have root, you can try Google dialer mod to force enable call recording.

Question Individual App Lock in Settings?

Hi all,
I'm new to Google phones, I got my Pixel 7 Pro on release day after having a Huawei Mate 20 Pro for the last 4/5 Years. Is there anyway to have individual Apps locked that require you to give your fingerprint to open them without the use of a 3rd Party App from the Play Store?
I used to be able to do this on my Huawei in the settings and lock any apps individually but I can't seem to find that option on my Pixel 7 Pro. I've seen the "Pin Required" option on Whatsapp but even that doesn't work great as you can see everything when the app is opened behind the pin screen.
Thanks for reading.

You'll find, as I have, that a lot of that creature comfort stuff are not in pure android. Unless I'm wrong, you'll need an app to do it for you.
Correct. As @xgerryx said, there are apps in the Play Store to make that feature available, although I don't use them so I don't keep up with what's best, or what works.
Thanks for the replies. I was hoping it could be done within the settings of the phone without the need for another 3rd party app being installed. Shame small things like this aren't available within stock Android on Google phones yet this was available years ago on other Android handsets.
Issue with app lock applications from the Playstore on non-rooted devices, it's easy to bypass for anyone with an iota of Android knowledge. You really need one baked into the OS as they're far more difficult to overcome.
I the same for me !!!! coming from oneplus with smart launcher pro....incredible thing any native app locker one by one in android stock !!!!
where can i ask this point with google team ?
hope for next version ?

Hey!
I was dissapointed, too, after switching from s20 ultra and mi11 ultra about this missing feature.
My workaround:
(0. Microsoft launcher to hide needed apps)
1. Tasker lock screen function (you can define apps that require lock), (I am tasker heavy user) so i don't need any more extra apps
2. Terminal-systemizer magisk module to help tasker not being killed (can be killed anyway, but enough for my needs)
3. Profit.
