Hi All, I have the samsung galaxy gear 2 for a week now and everything was working perfectly until this morning. The wake up gesture doesnt work at all anymore even though the power button still wakes up the device.
I have tried a factory reset to no avail.
Your help will be highly appreciated.
Maybe try turning it off in Gear Manager, reboot the phone and the watch, and turn it on again?
Wake-up Gesture not working
I had the same thing happen to me this morning. Funny thing is that when I have it connected to power with the charging unit then the wake-up gesture works again. Seems like a bug to me. I have tried all manner of restarting, powering down, and toggling the feature but nothing helps. Has anybody else seen this problem?
Better yet anyone know how to fix it?

Hi, after much fiddling and wrist swinging, it fixed itself!
I reset the gear to factory settings, disconnected the gear from phone, disabled the wake up gesture, re-enabled wake up gesture on gear manager AND on watch and then re-connected everything.
Wow the gear is crap without the wake up gesture.
But its awesome when it works.
Fiddling not paying off so far

Ok, I tried to follow this recipe but once I disconnect the gear 2 from the phone I am not able to get to setting in Gear Manager to re-enable on gear manager AND watch as you recommend. Can you explain what you did once you have the gear disconnected from the phone so I can follow your steps exactly? Wrist swinging alone is not doing the trick. Thanks in advance.

I figured out what was wrong in my case. I had installed the sleep app within in the S Health app. I left it on in sleep mode mistakenly which shuts off the wake up gesture. Then I uninstalled it while it was running and it did not seem to disable entirely. Finally I had given up on ever having a wakeup gesture and reinstalled the sleep app and fiddled with it and the wake up gesture was restored. Hope this helps someone in who has this frustrating problem.
My Gear 2's wake up gesture doesnt work too. What makes it doesnt work makes my head gearing up a bit. I just left it in the bathroom, NO CONTACT with water or liquid, then it all happened. I thought it was nothing so I restarted the watch. Nothing happened. Re installed the firmware and.. NOTHING. Stupid! I need help.
-NOTE: It does work when connected to PC or charging!! x_x -
Now It Works
I had the same problem. Everything worked great for the past month, including the wake up gesture, until two days ago when it stopped working. I looked on line and figured I'd try - Settings - Gear Manager- etc - except that when I opened up settings there was no "Gear Manager". I finally gave up and did the following: Turned off the bluetooth connection on my Samsung phone (which disconnected the connection between the Gear and the Samsung S4). Then I went to - Settings - Reset Gear - and ran thru the process of resetting the Gear to factory settings. Then I reconnected the bluetooth connection and re-installed the connection between the Gear and the Samsung S4 - BUT - I did not Restore. Uncheck the RESTORE box and continue. The phone lets you pick from all of the apps that were previously on the phone and gets everything running like it used to - EXCEPT that any data or files you had on you Gear are gone. BUT the wake up gesture is back and working fine and I can recreate anything I might have lost.
Try it. It worked for me. Good luck.
Do Not Disturb
I had this problem after my son had been playing with the watch. I tried un-pairing, rebooting etc. to no avail. Then I found that the 'Do Not Disturb' feature had been turned on. Turn this off and it works fine.
Thank you so much! That was my issue as well, I had do not disturb enabled!
DND
My issue also ... For those of you who need to remember where/how you turned this on (as I did) use the drag down (window shade) gesture to access the menu from your watch face. If the Circle with the hyphen icon is enabled that is your nemesis!!
It works with my Gear S3 (DND), thanks!
Tried each and every one of these fixes and nothing works. Still no wake up motion.

Thanks for the explanation, it allowed me to find the good operation of my gear fit 2 :good:
IMO, this is a design flaw on Samsung's end. Even with DND enabled, you should at least be able to use the wake up gesture to see your watch face without displaying notifications first.

Samsung Gear S2 Smartwatch Wakeup Gesture Doesn't WorkSa
I had the same problem with my Gear S2. Tried everything, including disabling "Do not disturb", but wakeup gesture still didn't work. Reported problem to seller who sent another S2, but it also did not work.
I've noticed that Android 5.0 allows to change many system settings (enable/disable WiFi/BlueTooth/Autorotate/etc) on its Lock Screen without entering any password.
I hate this liberty.
Does anyone have any idea how to disable this feature?
I cannot find anything in settings.

I too cannot believe this was left as a feature... I was hoping that would be fixed in the final version.
Bump.

I agree but there's nothing in android. 3rd party lock screen is the only way.
a fix for this would be good, as anyone can just pick up your phone and change any of the quick settings without unlocking it.
So you would not be able to track the phone if it got nicked and someone just stuck it in airplane mode!

does it matter if airplane mode is in quick settings or the main setting? if they want to steal your phone and put it into airplane mode, they will do it regardless if its in quick settings or the main settings. its stuff that you yourself use often that will appear in quick settings. i personally think its a great feature.

But they should not be able to do it while the phone is locked. At very least we should have the option of what should be accessible without unlocking the phone.

even if they were not in the quick settings, you can still pull down the notification bar while in the lockscreen, and go into the main settings. so, everything there is available to any thief.

If i do that it prompts to unlock the phone
Heck, I'm not even worried about the security situation with this, I just want to disable it because I think it is extremely poorly executed!
It offers nothing that power toggles doesn't, and is not even configurable for what options are present. I never use auto-rotate, cast screen, invert colors, etc, and yet, those options are available instantly!

They can also just remove the sim card or turn it off.
What I am looking for, is for the only possible thing you can do, while the phone is locked, is enter the password. Is there a way to set that up? Not be able to toggle any settings at all or remove the quick settings(I am ok with the emergency calling and camera widget, since you can't access the pictures on the phone until entering the password). I know they could still remove the sim or power off the phone but at least it might buy some more time if your phone gets stolen for you to track it or snap a pic of the thief. It would be nice if you could also disable the power menu and volume buttons while on the lock screen.
For now, until other solution is found or developed, you can go to notification settings and in 'When device is locked' change the setting to 'Hide sensitive notification content'. This disables access to quick settings from the lock screen but also hides titles of notifications, so you will see the notifications for emails, texts etc., but their content will be hidden.
This doesn't work. Well, if you have root and xposed you can install "Advanced Power Menu" to control the power menu on lockscreen etc and with GravityBox you can control the items on the quick settings. But I still couldn't figure out a way to totally disable it on the lockscreen.
As I remember the "X posed" Module "Notification Mod" could do exactly this. Problem is: It seems that development is discontinued and the stable ver1.2 doesn't (on my lollipop custom rom) work on 5.x

I am seeing this in my new Samsung S7 edge... with finger print and password lock.... it is not there on S5 with finger print and password lock... its a silly feature... why would they turn it on ? My son just put my phone in airplane mode accidentaly.... and I kept wondering why no messages and calls for the whole weekend.... hate to think what it would be like if it happened to someone who was say, on a on-call emergency personnel or something like that.... no one would be able to reach out to them.... I guess now have to keep checking my phone every hour.... hahahaha... or maybe go back to using my S5.. if someone has a solution to this pls share... appreciate it.
No way to disable access to quiick settings on lock screen on unrooted Android M....
Try the Market anyway,
One solution for me on Android 6.01 was to disable WiFi, Bluetooth, Airplane Mode, Mobile Data from Quick Settings using Systen UI Tuner in Settings then downloaded Settings Extended app at the Market and moved all mentioned in SE's Notification Shortcut. Don't forget to enable "HIDE LOCK SCREEN NOTIFICATION" in Preferences which is the objective of all this anyway. So don't forget to click this.
You can even disable everything in Quick Settings and instead put them all in SE Notification as Shortcuts. What's great about SE is that its Notification gets the icon color/shade/background color/color when toggled etc. perfectly in Android 6. Exactly the same. It looks like its really part of the Notification Screen except that there's that horizontal gap that separates the notifications and makes the screen fiddle faddle.
Try it anyway. It might be your only hope against lock screen vulnerability in unrooted Android 6.0 phones.

I have the same problem with my S7. Its weird that you cant change the wifi or bluetooth without unlocking the phone but when you select mobile data or airplane mode you can turn that off from the lockscreen so when your phone gets stolen, the thief can so easy turn that off that there is no way to trace your phone. Why do they even call this a smart phone while its so dumb?

I must apologise first, I’m not a nerdy-head about android, but I was thinking about my new phone (upgraded to A7) and your question is one that I sought out for answers.
In Nougat, I logged in as Guest and used a pin for the user so that a ‘guest’ can’t access the Guest account without my permission.
Then comes you’re question.
You can remove all the worrisome quick start icons from your quick settings (probably leave flashlight). Then use a 3rd party app (Notification Toggle is mine) which isn’t available to a user from a protected login.
As I’ve never had a lollypop viable phone I’m afraid another user might need to help you with a more detailed method for A5.
Hope it helps somewhat. As an old 8080 machine code programmer, it was always about solving problems and then working the bugs out. I'm not even sure how to post on these - socially thingy’s.
This issue it's still there in Nougat, so before it is passed on to Android O, we have to POPULARIZE this issue so they(Android developers) know how big of a pain in the ass it is. I'm posting the complaints to every forum, magazine, fan page, etc. When it's on the social media, they have to do something. This issue has survived because people don't want their friends to know about it, coz it's partly embarrassing...
I just received the upgrade to Lollipop last night on my At&t Edge. So far it seems ok for the most part but I found the following issues:
1. UCCW Widgets are disproportionate. They appear to have expanded and now go beyond the borders of the widget. Also the font has changed and is not fixable.
2. I have the LED notification turned off in settings, however it continues to blink blue when new notifications arrive... NOT playing nice with my OCD!!! How can I ensure this stays off???
3. Most annoying- I cannot change the ringtone or notification sounds. When I go to settings>device>sound and notifications>ringtones it brings me to the following path:
/storage/emulated/0/media/audio/notifications. Problem is I have nothing saved in that location and I cannot navigate to where any ringtones are stored.
Any help on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated- AT&T firefly is NOT the sound I want coming from my phone!!
UPDATE:
I was able to use ES File Explorer to navigate into my Systems folder and find the ringtones and notifications. I then copies them to the emulated/0/media folder and I can now change the tone. that is annoying, but a work around solution!
Still need to have the stupid LED light turn off!!!

I don't have any direct solution, but since the Note Edge just received the update last night I would suggest seeing if any Note 4 users had the same issue as you. I know a LOT of them are expriencing wild bugs. Unfortunately, it led a lot of people to doing a factory reset, which for many worked and for some it didn't.
In truth, it's not a bad idea to plan for a factory reset when a major Android version is rolled out. So just a thought. Hope someone has a solution for you, or else we'll see Android 5.1 on our device in the next 12 months!
I just got the lollipop update as well. Did a factory reset after backing everything up because I've seen too many people with problems not doing a factory reset. Everything works perfect though for me haven't had any issues so far.

same here. no issues found. just wish they hadn't messed with the way lollipop does the sound. I prefer lollipops priority notifications over Samsung. I see why they did it though. some people can't bother to understand the new system and just want silent, vibrate and ring modes
Just noticed that. What's the difference between the previous silent mode and mute?

All I did was let it boot up the first time, dealt with a few ANR's, and wiped cache from stock recovery. After Google Play Services finally updated, I haven't had a single issue since. I have to say, other than the odd choice of lots of white since we have AMOLED, I am enjoying this update so far :good:
Backed up the phone through Kies and did a factory reset. then restored through Kies. This fixed the ringtone issue. LED still blinks despite being turned off in settings. I am currently going through all my apps to see if one is overriding.
Only other thing I found is the "Briefings" panel is no longer accepting my weather settings and continuously prompts me to "tap to add weather info".
So far I am liking the update and will work through the issues I find! a few odd choices of color, though!
Was finally able to resolve the weather issue on my briefings panel. I had to open the Samsung weather widget and set it to my current location. Once I did that the panel connected and displayed the correct temp.

Are you sure you don't have another app controlling this? Check your defaults. Also, /storage/emulated/0/media/audio/notifications is where user notification sounds should go. Ringtones should be in /storage/emulated/0/media/audio/ringtones for user and /system/media/audio/ringtones for system.

Hi,
I just purchased an x96 box and was looking through the features when I saw the security feature for setting up a resticted profile. Since I have kids I thought it would be good to set one up, so created my password and then clicked "enter restricted profile". Not only did it restrict the apps that were availible to me, but now in the sttings tab all the buttons are gone (except for network) so I can't change any settings. As well there isn't anything for me to toggle back to normal profile. I basically am stuck in restricted profile and cant change it. When I turn on and off the box it comes back on in regular mode (all the apps), but then 5 seconds in it says "switching to restricted profile" and I cant make any changes to settings.
Anyone who can help would be a lifesaver.
Cheers

I ended up doing a factory reset. Click on the apps button on the home page. Near the bottom is a button that says "backup......". Clicked on that and checked off delete data and delete "something" then hit restore. Good to go.
Hope that helps.

Ok so I got a x96 foolishly done the same thing. Here's how to set it again. While the power is off in the av point on the rear of the box poke a match stick in and there is a button insode. Hold it down. It will come up with options like a boot sort of setup options. I went to clear data or something along those lines and boom back to factory settings. I looked everywhere for a reset button it was only because company I purchased from advised me it was there.
Ditto! Is ther e any other option than reseting factory settings? How can i apply the original passcode I entered?
Did you get it fix?

X96 restricted profile problem
Now any new solution? When I set PIN code and apply restricted profile after that I cannot reverse normal mode, can't apply PIN code
With a factory reset ?
So did anyone work out how to get back removing restricted profile without a factory reset. It seems so counter productive...
Thanks.
Hope it works for you too.
Okay. So, I didn't see a reset button hidden anywhere, but I didn't wanna have to do that anyways. What I've found is that when you turn it off and back on, you can go back out of restricted mode. You just need to be really fast before it re-enters restricted mode again. You have about ten seconds. It's best to connect a mouse because it takes longer to scroll to the apps and options using the remote. But I did everything in time because my password was 0000. As soon as it turns back on, as quickly as possible, go to settings, >security & restrictions, then go to turn off restricted profile. Quickly enter your passcode and you're home free! After that, I'd highly recommend deleting restricted profile. Hope this works for you too!

Yours is the best idea to solve the issue. Unfortunately my GT1 is so fast, that gives me only 1 second. The same is with wired mouse. Is there any experience, if after master (pinhole) reset the Google account should get back all (Kodi reppositories, YouTube account,...) settings ?
I have exactly the same problem with my Philips 49PUS7502/12 Android TV. I even didn't set up a PIN CODE for it. I can't get out of this profile. Any solution rather than factory reset? I have many apps and customization.
Hello,
I have some troubling issues with my "newly"-acquired phone. The previous owner has sold me a mildly used S7 with latest Oreo update, all stock, no tampering whatsoever.
However, either it's just me or I can't figure out some basic things:
1) Can't find homescreen buttons settings (i.e. Menu and Back button) for backlight.
2) Front LED indicator doesn't work with FB/Messenger/etc notifications - it does work when the phone is charging/is charged. Tried *#0*#, it works just fine.
3) App "bubbles" also doesn't work for me. While Messenger seemingly shows missed messaged, FB app still refuses to show any notifications.
Anyone got idea? I could try factory reset, but it already was reseted when I got it.
I could try to flash the rom with different carrier, but I seriously doubt it can solve such problems.
Thanks in advance!

1. Long press on blank part of home screen to access home screen settings. Stock doesn't give the option to adjust back light for menu and back button. A third party launcher does like Nova Launcher.
2 settings >notifications >advanced, find Facebook app and enable
Also app icon badges in home screen settings
3. As above

1) Thanks but for basic thing like adjusting backlight, I don't wanna use any third party app, for what should be already in phone. My Galaxy W had it, My S5 mini had it too, this is just stupid.
2) All notifications are enabled, all badges are enabled too. I tried turning them off, getting some notification and turning them on. Worked in 1 outta 20 tries, ergo - I got it all enabled permanently and it still won't work.
3) As above
