Turn on the screen without pressing center key

Hi all,
Just got the SW2 today and am excited to use it. Is there a way to wake up the Smartwatch screen without pressing the center key. For example, can the screen turn on hand movement or say by tapping the screen?
I tried to search this in the forum but couldn't find any info.
Regards,
KS
Hi, since smartwatch firmware is closed and we can use watches only on application basis I am pretty sure it is not possible.
Odesláno z mého GT-N7100 pomocí Tapatalk
Supposedly, the SW2 has an accelerometer but I have yet to see it utilized. I had an original Sony Smartwatch for a short time, and it would turn on with the slightest movement. There was an option of turning it on by rotating your wrist while holding your forearm horizontal, but it was pretty erratic.
It kinda wish that you could set it to turn on the backlight with movement, but it's no more of a problem than hitting the button on my old digital watch to see in the dark.
It does have an accelerometer. If you leave it on the desk to charge it will switch the screen off after a while. It turns back on if you move it.

this freaked me out last night. I was playing a game and my wrist was still as a held the controller. I looked at the time and for like a tenth of a second I thought the screen was blank. Wasn't sure what happened.

At the moment there is no way to wake up the watch by a movement of the wrist as far as I know. However, if you use a custom watch face, (like custom watch for SW2, or clocki) you can wake it up via touchscreen buttons (home button for example).
I do not know if this works for you...
Thanks all for the reply. I could have use custom clock faces but I think it will consume more battery current. Hopefully Sony will make some interesting clock faces with weather integrated.
I have used SmartQ Z watch before. What I like about SW2 is amazing battery life and that I can read contents of email and whatsapp messages on the watch itself. Pretty cool!
There will be in the nearest future an big update, seen on MWC:

Article above, translated into English:
The SmartWatch 2, which came on the market in September 2013 (as reported) , was one of the first truly mature models on the market . However, it lacked some features or there were significant inconsistencies in the operation ( for our review ) . Now, however, a major update in the wings , which is to iron out any weaknesses.
We have long especially on other watches designs, so gennante Watch Faces , waiting . Now there are five of them , which partly show even quite a lot of information . This includes, among other things, the weather and a pedometer , but also the last notification received with content and the next upcoming alarm. Whether the pedometer works in the clock itself, or the information coming from the smartphone itself , we could not exist in Other improvements concern the notification system. The icon for the news has disappeared and the notification bar , which can be drawn down from above as with Android, is now finally scrollable. In addition, you can now on the clock even choose which app icons should be shown in the home screen and from which apps you want to receive notifications . The former is particularly interesting for apps which only provide notifications, but do not have to be started manually. So you get a little more order in the icon list .
Even the design of a lot has changed . The icons of the preinstalled apps , to which now also includes a simple calculator , were easily adapted . Further, it is now finally possible to change the wallpaper of the home screen . In addition , a percentage battery indicator in some of the new Watch Faces .

I wonder how reliable this source is. Especially its claim about it being discussed/shown in MWC, which I haven't seen reported on any of the mobile tech websites such as smartwatchfans and engadget, makes me suspect it's reliability. However, things being described are really nice like the watchfaces with more info including weather etc. It is very exciting nonetheless. Looking forward to such a firmware upgrade. Lets keep fingers crossed.

thanks so much for these however when selecting the faces on the watch it's not showing a preview of the face, only a plain circle of a watch , it still works but cant see what is what. when selecing a face. I myself had this problem as well and it will show the same in the emulator select settings and go to change the watch face and it will show what I mean I never fixed my problem yet why the image isn't showing.

I just downloaded this one, the config.xml points to <icon src="icon.png"/> & the icon is stock. So, you will see the icon.png attached below instead of a custom icon image.
Did you upload a custom icon to yours? If so, you should see something like this in the config.xml...

ok so is there a way to see the actual clock image instead of that stock image when selecting a new face ? as once we get a few in there were not able to tell which clock is which when we change faces on the watch itself .

Because the rolex watch does not contain a custom icon. He would have to make a custom icon and add it in the config.xml (if that is what he chose to do)

Analog Digital
Here is my basic analog digital that I posted in the other thread so we can get them all in one place.
If you post one its good if you add an image. Its easy to get an screen capture using the emulator in the SDK.
To start an emulator you select the button on the left in the connection explorer window. Then create a new one if you dont have one in the pop up. Name it and select all the defaults for now. Once it is created hit the button that looks like the play button. Now you can test your apps with out your phone. Select the emulator in the connection explorer and then right click on your project name and select run as. Then in the emulator you can right click on the clock and save screen shot.

Watch faces made with Gear Watch Designer

I decided to give it a go and try the Gear Watch Designer to make some watch faces. I started with my sports teams and then tried a couple premium faces. I'll probably create some more with the faces from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-360/themes-apps/watchmaker-500-watchfaces-monster-pack-t3276583
Only annoying thing is that I can't delete the stock faces on the watch - several of which I'll never use, and there's a limit of 15 faces you can add. Since I've made 8 faces so far, and downloaded a bunch more, I'm out of space! Guess I like to fiddle too much...
Anyway, feel free to post faces you've made. I'd like to get some ideas of what other guys have come up with...
I've done a few from that thread - but only the non-chronograph versions (There is no Chrono function in Samsung Gear) - I find it easier to use the default AOD. If someone root's the Gear S3 then you'll be able to delete the stock dials

Gotcha. I've rooted lots of phones, but this is my first smartwatch, and my first adventure into Tizen. Would the non-carrier (WiFi) versions be easier/done first? (Seems like Verizon always makes it harder!)
I'm guessing we'll need to root to see the .gwd files on the stock faces too? I'm able to link to the Timer app or the stopwatch app for my chronograph faces, but I'd like to have it switch to something like the Chronograph+ stock face. I just like the look of the chronograph face watches better.

You need to get Gear Watch Designer on a PC.
http://developer.samsung.com/gear/design/watch-designer
There are tutorials on how to use it. The files in that zip are components that can be added to make a face. Then you need to install it to the watch from the PC, by disconnecting the Bluetooth connection to your phone, and connecting via WiFi to the same network as the PC with the face file.
I recommend downloading some faces (.gwd files) from the Watchland app on your phone. Send them to your PC, and open them in Gear Watch Designer. Use them as a template to see how to put faces together. (And/or swap in you own components).

Simple. It would take like two seconds. Gear Watch Designer lets you adjust the color, or if you had a picture of a hand, you could easily swap it in.

PM'd. Note, the left dial is the battery, the right is % of step goal, and tapping them links to respective app. The bottom doesn't move, but links to the timer app. Link to stopwatch not yet supported to my knowledge.

No worries, I'm thinking you meant needle, but it's the second hand.
Just start clicking through the components on the bottom left in Gear Watch Designer until you highlight the second hand. Delete it. Then click, "Watch Hand" on the left, and pick a new one, or import the image of a new one. Edit properties - size, placement, etc. on the right. Done...

I know I'm replying to a 5 year old post but I just figured out how to change the widgets on the stock watch faces directly on the phone, without an app and am I sharing it in case anyone lands here from a search.
1) press on the watchface until the watchface switcher appears.
2) swipe to the face you want to edit and tap customize.
3) swipe left or right until the widget you want to change is highlighted, turn the bexel to change the widget, on the Gear Dashboard watchface there are many options available including weather and date.

S9 useful features

Let's face it. Samsung is known for tossing in everything but the kitchen sink. Sometimes the features stick. Sometimes they're complete duds. List some of the features you actually use that you wouldn't find in stock Android
Something I've found very useful is the edge panel smart select. For instance if something's in a language I don't understand. Select rectangular, highlight the text I want. Hit Bixby vision and it gets translated. Or an item I want to purchase it will recognize it. It's actually quite good
The option to make volume controls control media by default. Something I wish stock Android would adopt because 90% of the time when I want to turn the volume down or up its media. So I like that I can make that the primary control

Did u actually enable the whole bixby vision service? Where u have to install it and "allow" for permissions. Pretty sure its in camera app. Then once bixby vision is good to go u should be able to use it in smart select/other places
I think the size of your selection matters. I was trying to pull a tracking number my wife sent. The first time I selected just the number. No bixby vision option. I selected more area and the option appeared.
Something else I noticed really cool is that pin to screen option. OMG so usful.
