Has anyone realized this or is it just me, every sense 3.5 that I've tried the battery indicator is incorrect.
For example, I just had 41% battery life before resetting my phone and now I have only 4%. Is it not charging the battery correctly? I also turn the phone off after it says 100% and then charge until the green led comes on but still it is either draining too fast and phone doesn't detect it until a reset or the battery isn't be charged completely because the rom thinks it's 100. I have caliibrated and erased the batterystats.bin file so many times and it's still the same. any insight on this? I have a brand new battery from htc as well.
Same problem
Constantly "calibrating" or deleting the battery stats is the exact reason this happens. You dont have to do that, regardless of what people say.
This will happen until the battery has been charged/discharged a few times and will slowly stop happening.
No issue here, got my new anker battery.. Flashed BP 2.1.5 and since then, my battery has been normal and amazing!

This. When I flash ROMs I don't really do anything in relation to the battery. I just use my phone like normal. The first day or two you might get a little more drain than usual, but after that it will be completely normal and you don't have to do anything like wipe battery stats or calibrate or run it down to 5% and charge it all the way up or whatever.
Yes, constantly resetting battery stats is bad. Should only occur right after flashing the new ROM. Ideally you'll have charged your phone to 100%, flashed the new ROM, and immediately putting it through 5 discharge/charge cycles.
My battery life was horrendous when I didn't properly calibrate the battery. Going through the process now and its lasting a significantly longer time compared to not going through the process. I'm talking about getting like 6 hours of light usage compared to like 15.
Or it could be just ARHD. I really didn't like that ROM. Anyways, I'm running Bulletproof 2.1.5 with 3.5 Sense on an Anker battery and its doing great.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that. My battery life was horrendous when I didn't properly calibrate the battery by going through at least 3 full discharge and charge cycles. + 1 my battery was shocking, im on my second full cycle currently at 2% lol and already i've noticed improvements by like 20%

I've done everything, calibrated the battery numerous times with and without wiping the batterystats.bin and it's still acting up. Say this morning I wake up, take the phone off charge at 100%, go out, and restart the phone for any reason when the phone's battery meter is at 95%, after the restart the meter will jump down to 70%.
This is with a new battery, new rom, totally wiped device, I even used the ruu to get me back to the stock rom.
Anyone have any idea what's the problem? The battery life is ****, and doesn't seem to get any better with calibration.

This is your culprit. Let it bed in a few days, and performance should stabilize.
Go through 5 full charges/discharges, uninterrupted. Yes, it's a pain in the ass, but you signed up for it when you flashed a new ROM.
Everytime you wipe your battery stats, you have to go through the 5 cycle process again. Uninterrupted.
EDIT: Had a lil too much rum and misspelled a few words. I even misspelled mispelled
Alright dude, I'm going to take you up on your word, I'll give you another update within 5 days.
This is a problem with all Sensation ROMs, even with S-On and Stock ROMs. I get a problem like this one too. If I have 60% left, and I restart the phone, it goes up to 69% and I don't know why. Also very slow charging from the original wall charger, but if I reboot when it's charging at 70-75%, when it finally boots, it says 100% charge. This must be some bug from HTC or something. :S
Hi,
Same problem (with Sense 3.0/Sence 3.5 and different ROM),but is there a fix for that?
I saw this:
Batt Jumping hopefully solved (Beta) = Done

The thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287129 .
Probably a way to fix the issue?
Should be asked about this in the ROM thread?
Me too same bug since first day, I think it's a battery sensor fault
It's not a hardware fault...it's not a battery fault...it *may* be a ROM/kernel issue...but I suggest you give your battery a few discharge/charge cycles and you'll see it should go back to normal.
Unplugged from charger this morning and all was well, after about 12 hours I rebooted and now have stats that are acting like I just charged the phone (back to counting from 0.
Any idea what would cause this or how to fix it?
Should I delete the battery stats file and go through a full up charge cycle?
i dont really know what you are talking about but if the battery meter is acting like it is on a charger ie the icon show a battery filling up every couple seconds then it is likely a problem with the usb port. there may be some trash in there. could also be just some random bug and a power down and battery pull will reset the battery meter.
if you mean something else by "counting from zero" please explain. also this phone and samsung galaxy s phones have a standalone battery meter. it has some mapping that is preset but doesnt actually use "battstats" all those recal procedures that "helped" people in the galaxy s forums is plecebo effect. the battery life tends to appear to get better within a couple days after flashing a rom. throw a recal in the middle of those couple days and people naturally connect the better battery life with the recal.

What I mean is that lets say for example the battery stats show that the phone has been on battery for 1 day and when I reboot the counter is reset to 0 days (like if I had just pulled it off the charger). Twice now I have had the phone reset the time on battery counter along with the signal, awake, wifi graphs by only rebooting. this should not happen, i.e. the stats should not reset until charging is done. Hope that helps explain what I meant. Thanks.

What ROM are you on? From what I know, what you said happens on Froyo based ROMs. GB ROMs should not reset counter until phone is charged to 100%.
I have the exact same problem. On every reboot, battery use starts counting from 0 seconds. Anyone has a solution?

I had the same issue or should i say have. kinda. I'm on Zeus build 3 and when my batt gets to 100% i unplug...then maybe a cpl hours go by and i do a change and reboot..say three hours in. after reboot my "time on battery " resets to 0!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOt supposed to.
What i did and do still cause NO ONE else knows they have the prob or don't have it. so i don't have a sure fix..
charge to 100. go into recovery and wipe battery stats. let it boot. wait a cpl minutes. reboot...usually it will reset but sonce it;s only been a cpl minutes who cares. then go aobut your business...after some time..hours... try rebooting. shoud stay.
Best i can offer until i guess someone else says they have same issue...
THEN going forward after i re charge to 100 i reboot right then. and it seems to be good from there.
Pain In The Ass. I asked other on Zeus to check but not sure they get it.

go into settings/about phone/Battery use.....That is what resets ..supposed to change of course when you upplug but try it...wait a few minutes..look at how much time on battery then reboot...it the "time on battery" starts over..you have the issue
I thought that was the normal behavior on Android, it resets the battery stats on every boot because while it was offline it might have been put in a charger and thus the battery stats might not be correct (or you could have changed batteries).
I for one don't see the problem with battery stats reseting on reboot, i reboot very rarely and when i do i usually do it to install firmwares or patches.
On the other hand now I've found an article by one of the Android developers and there it says :
This file (batterystats.bin found in data/system) is used to maintain, across reboots, low-level data about the kinds of operations the device and your apps are doing between battery changes. That is, it is solely used to compute the blame for battery usage shown in the "Battery Use" UI in settings.

So, it says "across reboots" so it shouldn't be reset by a reboot, that means that i thought wrong that the file is reset on each reboot
P.S. maybe the ROM that's on the phone does something that either deletes the file or forces a reset on the battery stats.
Try changing/setting permissions (through that option for permissions, can't recall the exact wordings) in CWM and see if that helps.
Alright so it's difficult to explain this fully but I'll try. I came across battery calibration information and I went ahead and wiped the stats. I then let it drain, charge full then drain again. Now as it was charging I decided to flash another ROM, done. So that ROM took a while to fully charge but when it did I got 13hrs of battery life out of it. Now when I charge it, pretty much it stays around 50% and wo't bump higher. Literally haven't hit higher after leaving it plugged for more than 3 hours. Anyways I'm about to flash a update of said ROM and use a different kernel that is know to be more stable. But curious if there is hope for my battery? I don't plan on wiping battery stats anymore, after further readings I see it's not worth the trouble.
I have read numerous threads/posts etc on this topic. I do understand the difference in cables whether it is 4 pin vs 5 pin, quality of the cables, differences in voltage (wall charger vs usb vs car). I get all that. I really do.
But call me crazy... Why in the world would charging to 100%, clearing battery stats in recovery, seem to have a difference in the amount of drain on the battery? Normally on idle the phone will drain 1% per 20 min id say. Maybe more depending on how many apps/processes I have running in the background.
Within the last day I have been just playing around with switching back and forth between CM10 nightlies and CleanRom5.5. Different kernels etc. Basically I have a couple nandroid backups and I've been just switching. So the only thing I did within the last hour is restore my CM10, clear the battery stats in recovery, and let it go off of the charger and its literally doing what I'd expect from a normal battery, NOT DRAIN as fast!
IDK... maybe I am just tired or something but it seems like something is different. I even looked at the utilization of the battery and the apps/system processes are even lower.
Does any of this make any sense? I am almost afraid to re-flash any new updates to CM10 because this battery issue has been going on for months.
I recently got my battery changed..
Somehow the battery feels the same. 100-99 only couple of seconds...
I already re-calibrate my battery, but still no luck....
What should i do?
Anyway, i don't use mobile data, i'm using wifi + airplane mode, so it must be not drain this quick
....so you're saying you're losing 1% in a few seconds, when it's fully charged. Honestly, that isn't going to explain or even give you much information on how your battery is, just because of that fact.
How long does your battery actually last with normal use? I get about 10-12 hours from my phone, it's almost two years old and I think I still think it gets good battery life, mind you, when certain services aren't acting up...hrrmm hrrmm... google play services and the such.
