OnePlus Nord 5G - not receiving Messenger notifications - OnePlus Nord Questions & Answers

Howdy! I have brand new OnePlus Nord 5G (Android 11) and already having problems with it. When I don't use it for longer time (30 min or more) and someone sends me a message on Messenger, then it doesn't trigger notification - no sound, no vibration, no notification on status bar. I only see notification for new message when I manually run the Messenger app. It looks like the system is killing background activity for the app. Battery is charged and I have battery saving disabled. I already followed this guide on how to disable battery optimizations for whole system and for Messenger https://dontkillmyapp.com/oneplus but it didn't change anything. It's very annoying and makes the smartphone unusable. Any advices? Thanks.

Nevermind, notifications issues are very common for OnePlus smartphones: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/oneplus-nord-no-notifications-calls-from-apps.1277927/page-12
I returned it to the store.

Messenger (SMS) notifications disappearing after 1 second

When I receive a text message (using Google's Messenger), the screen lights up and I see the notification on the lock screen. After 1 or 2 seconds, without any input, the notification disappears before I can do anything. This has caused me to miss several (somewhat) important text messages because when I go back, the notification is no longer there to remind me to check my messages.
Any suggestions of how to fix this?
Same issue on LG V20 running Android 7.0. Started with Hangouts messages only and then spread to SMS/text messages yesterday. heads up notification displays for fraction of a second before disappearing. Same behavior with notification icon in notification bar. Shows for split second before apparently being instantaneously dismissed. Expanding notification shade shows no notification. I thought it was my messaging app Textra, but full uninstall re-install did not fix. Tried reverting to stock Android messaging app, still no fix. Reverted from Nova to stock Launcher, no fix. This is maddening! Sounds like it might be an OS bug, but your the first person to post something exactly like I'm experiencing. Hopefully more find this and report. No fix as of yet that I've found.
I had a chat with Samsung support where basically they had me first boot into safe mode to ensure no 3rd-party apps were messing it up (they weren't). Then (in regular boot mode), I had to enable all disabled apps (AT&T bloatware). Then, I enabled notifications for all apps.
This fixed my issue well enough. The notifications appear, then go away after a second, but then immediately come back. It's still quirky, but now the notifications are persistent.

Heads up (Banner) notification in B360

Hello guys,
I flashed successfully from B131 to B360.
All works fine as soon.
All notifications arrive immediately but not all were shown in banner mode (heads up) although I chose it in notification settings.
For example AquaMail is only show as banner if I choose in AquaMail settings high priority notificationas.
Tapatalk or other apps are only as icons in statusbar. Whatsapp or sms are shown as Banner.
I'm very confused. In emui 4.1 all notifications are heads up.
Is this a bug
Thx for helping
I am having the same issue with EMUI 5 with Android 7. Searches on google and xda don't give many answers. Have you tried exempting all apps from battery optimization yet? That's the only other answer I've found so far, but some claim it still doesn't work.

The more I learn about this phone, the more I realize that EMUI simply gets in the way of how Android is supposed to operate. Banner and LED notifications are either overridden or ignored by EMUI for third party apps. The only way around it is to use apps that have built in notification settings that can override EMUI.
For example, I use Textra as my primary messaging app and its banner and LED notifications only work when I select those options within the app. EMUI doesn't seem to recognize those functions for Textra and a bunch of other apps as well.
That would explain why I only see notifications for default apps.. will see with the settings in the other apps..

And this applies to the LED notification as well. I turned on the phone screen yesterday to find 3 different apps had notifications in the status bar, but the LED never flashed to tell me they were there.
Hii @PuffDaddy_d
Yes I have the same issue
And the only thing works is the sound notification
But then missing the LED one
LED manager will take over and control the LED notification - just a shame you can't turn off the battery charging LED.

Yes, that app works very well, but it is a huge battery drain for me. It wasn't worth keeping installed.

Missing Notification Problem

I'm planning to buy a Huawei or an Honor phone in the near future with EMUI v8 pre-installed. For people who use this version of EMUI, I wanna ask if notifications from different apps (whatsapp, fb, ...etc) are received without any issues? OR I'll have to fiddle around in the settings to white-list apps from strict battery savings restrictions?
Without action no good notification. U have to change setting in battery and notification settings
On my Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design I don't have any problems with notification. The default setting excludes all apps from power management, so no probs.

When you upgrade to Oreo, shouldn't Oreo alone be enough to do the power management?! I've read that Oreo has built in feature(s) to throttle background activities so I"m wondering why Huawei didn't remove their power management lines of code from EMUI v8 (which is currently present on their Mate 10 devices) and leave the task to the OS to do the thing more efficiently?!
My Mate 9 by default will beep for notifications, pulse the notification light and display an icon in the notification bar. However, notifications do not peep by default (pop up) or turn on the screen. Enabling the peep appears to need to be done on each app individually.
Allowing all notifications to turn on the screen is a one click for all process with the option to manage each app individually.
With regards to power management, none of the apps are affected by this by default.
All the above are in the Notification & status bar section of settings.

S9/WhatsApp notifications

Took delivery of my S9 yesterday, my 1st foray into the world of android. Is there anyway to disable pop-up previews and just have a badge number to notify you when you have a WhatsApp message?. I have some fairly active WhatsApp groups and if I'm browsing the web, watching youtube, etc, basically doing anything on the phone at all its constantly previewing WhatsApp messages, toggling pop-ups off doesn't work, 2 minutes later they default back to on. If it can't be done its an absolute disaster, I can't believe anyone puts up with this - makes the phone almost un-usable. HELP!
Thanks in advance, Justin

I am having exactly the same problem with my S9+. and it is infuriating me! I have opened support cases with Whatsapp and Samsung regarding this because it is not normal functionality. On previous Android phones (LG G5, LG G6, Nexus 6p) i have been able to hide pop ups and keep the notifications as per normal, with the S9 its either everything on or turn off completely.
I have found a temporary workaround but it means all your notifications will be silent. You may be able to play around with the settings to get something that works for you!
Here is what i have done:
Go into Whatsapp > Settings > Notifications
Conversation Tones - Box unchecked
Notification Tone - Silent
Vibrate - Off
Popup Notification - No Popup
Now go to the home screen and go
Settings > Notifications > WhatsApp > Message Notifications
Importance - High
Sound - Silent
Vibrate - Off
App Icon Badges - On
On lock Screen - Hide Content
Finally make sure you have Edge Lighting Disabled
Settings > Display > Edge Screen > Edge Lighting Off
I hope that a fix for this is rolled out soon because its ruining my experience of my first Samsung.

Thanks so much for the reply, I've resorted to simply blocking the notifications entirely as whatever I change seems to magically revert back to what I can only assume is the default setting. Makes me almost certain its system/app bug opposed to operator error.
How something as rudemental as this makes it through BETA is almost beyond comprehension, such a shame. I can't believe that none of the top review and tech guys on YouTube haven't noticed this either.
As I mentioned in the OP this is my first android experience, how quick are things like this usually cleaned up? praying its resolved quickly!
I have the same issue it's becoming too annoying
Me too having the same issue.. with S9 Plus
Is there anyway we can hide the icon of whats app but phone should vibrate?
S20 WhatsApp notifications
And so here we are, 2 years on from the original WhatsApp notification issue on the s9, I'm sat here about the throw my brand new S20 against the wall for similar reasons.
My issue is, I can't seem to switch off the vibrate alert, whatever combination of settings I use I can't mute the vibrate without turning the whole phone to silent. I managed to sort it on the s9 with a random combination of settings that included having the alert set to high priority (for some reason), that option doesn't seem available these days. What an absolute farce. If anyone has managed to figure a work around, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Solution for Notification issue on Nex S

So I tried this on my main social apps and they are appearing flawlessly. I hope they are useful.
Please follow the below steps to solve it:
1. Slide upward from the bottom of the screen to bring up the Control Center, hold and press the WhatsApp icon and click Add to white list;
2. Enter i Manager>Power manager>Excessive background battery usage>turn on the switch of WhatsApp;
3. Access i Manager>App manager>Autostart manager>turn on the switch of WhatsApp.
This worked for me with my Samsung Gear Fit2 watch. You have to make sure all of the Samsung apps and plugins associated with the Gear Fit2 are enabled in iManager (iOS hints everywhere... Lol)
Ok uninstalling iManager app notification from all app works excellent now

for example ... when a team scores a goal sound notification late more than 5 minutes and so constantly
So I'm dealing with a slight problem. Honestly could just be something to get used to. I have the India Model (Global Rom), and I deal with a notification issue for my lock screen. I've already done adb and gotten rid of iManager, but I still seems to have an issue with notifications coming through.
This is mostly with Android Messages (I use this as my default). If I leave a notification of a message on my lockscreen for too long, it eventually disappears and indicates on my home screen I no longer have a notification (Using Nova). But when I enter the app of course the message is still there and says unread. Its a small problem, but it can become annoying.
Its as if I leave a notification in the status bar for too long, it eventually disappears and then indicates I no longer have a notification. Is this just a normal thing for an international device? ( I am in the states by the way).
Its a small gripe, because otherwise I still love the device and I'm glad I waited for the India model. Its my daily driver for now.
anyone have problem with whatsapp vibration unable to change into the default/short/long options... no matter which option i chose... the whatsapp vibration will just revert back to the default vibration.... my group msg vibrating like mad instead of the short vibration that I really like for grp chat....
Easiest way to deal with problems on the Vivo Nex= just sell the phone and go with Xiaomi or OnePlus.
