OnePlus Nord - System lags every time after paying with phone - OnePlus Nord Questions & Answers

Hello there,
I have rather strange issue with my device and id like to ask if anyone else is expiriencing this same behaviour or maybe do know how to fix it.
So i bought this phone about 2 weaks ago. The first weak everything was working like a clockwork. No lags, no reboots needed, excelent battery life. But for last 2 or 3 days I am facing really weird system ?bug?. Basicly anytime i use my phone to pay in shops or public transportation the system starts to lag as crazy... The payment does go through without a problem but just as the google pay screen should pop up on the screen of the phone the phone just freezes in a really weird way. (I can lock it using a power button and the display does go off, but the allways on display doesnt go on and clicking the power button again to unlock the device does nothing. - I am basicly in the situation where i need to hard reset the device in order to continue using it.)
It happened to me once even without paying so i dont think that it is the Google Pay app thats at fault but paying with my device causes the issue everytime.
It is really annoying and i am starting considering returning the phone for a refund and switching to the new Nord 2 as i am still eligible for it. But as a last resort before i do that i want to ask you if someone does know why this is happening and can help me. Other than that i really like the device very much.

[Q] Nexus S goes into some sort of fault state

My two months old Nexus S started to behave in a way that renders it pretty much useless - Freezing / Locked U
Freeze/Delay Between Menu and basically the phone is dead.
Very often when the screen is off, pressing power button powers up the screen with the screen lock, but the phone is not responsive so the screen just goes off again as it is impossible to slide to unlock it.
On top of that, leaving the phone with the screen off for a half an hour or so brings up some sort of warning sign and a small android (can see the screen shot here: http://yfrog.com/h3apmgqj) and the phone is effectively dead. The only thing to do in any of the two cases is remove and reinsert the battery, but that is no solution to anything. All this is while the battery is fully charged.
Did anyone experienced this before? resetting phone does not help.
Here is more info on this topic: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/label?lid=4e31a500f89fe575&hl=en
Are you using a custom recovery/ROM? That icon you posted isn't the stock image
Hi, no I do not - the image is actually from different phone but it looks exactly as it did on my Nexus S (little green guy with an exclamation mark). I never rooted my phone or done any custom mods to its system.
I actually sent it to Samsung and they are claiming that they found no problem, so they re-flushed the phone and are sending it back. I am seriously angry at samsung. It is arriving on the 11th so I'll let you know if that helped but I doubt it.
I believe this might be a faulty memory because I often received notification that the internal storage was unavailable or something of that nature as well, right before the problem would occur. Are the any tests I could perform for memory / storage?
just try to flash it back to stock
then do wipe data and wipe cache
see if that gets it back on its feet
Hey,
thank you, I thank that means I would have to root it first ehhh
Samsung told me they've done just that (flashed phone) so I am seriously hoping that my phone will work when it arrives on the 11th.
thanks!
Samsung supposedly is looking into this problem, please see link below:

Update:
I just received my phone from Samsung repair and of course, the phone is NOT fixed. On the side note, they also sent back my note that explains the problem meaning it was ignored completely.
I will be contacting @SamsungServic and calling but at this point I am not sure that they can fix the phone other then replace it.
Also,
I've spoken to Samsung and chat online and - yes they nice and throw back lots of promises and niceness back but they are NOT doing anything about it, for now at least.
I copy and paste the best answer on the google support topic to here:
I've been keeping a notebook to document my debugging of this problem. No app in particular is responsible, in my opinion. I have observed the phone lock up after a Factory Data Reset + USB wipe, and with no accounts configured. In fact, I have had it freeze after following this procedure:
1. Factory Data Reset + USB erase from Settings menu
2. Phone reboots.
3. Go through initial setup screens, skip account setup.
4. Power down phone.
5. Remove battery.
6. Remove SIM card.
7. Replace battery.
8. Power up phone.
9. Let phone sit for 15 minutes or more.
10. Phone freezes.
This is about as close to bare bones as I can get with this device.
I have also documented at least four freeze modes:
1. Phone is completely dark (both display and buttons). No combination of power button or other buttons can bring phone back. Battery removal required.
2. Phone display is dark, but the four "hard key" buttons are illuminated. No combination of power button or other buttons can bring phone back. Battery removal required.
3. Phone displays only a green android by a warning exclamation sign. Holding power button down, then volume up, then release volume up, will bring up the Android system recovery screen, from which phone can be rebooted.
4. Phone is frozen at the unlock screen. Sometimes this freeze occurs while swiping the unlock icon. No combination of power button or other buttons can bring phone back. Battery removal required.
I have observed the phone going from normal standby state (display and buttons dark) to state 2, and at other times to state 3, while it was sitting on my desk by the keyboard.
I'm just about ready to send it to Samsung. I just wanted to verify that the problem would be reproducible after a factory reset and without the SIM card.
I think it may be a hardware problem. It's also possible that part of the Android kernel or some device driver on my device has become corrupt. Unfortunately I can't reset the OS.

I did a factory reset from the stock recovery, too. Doesn't help either.
My phone arrived on Friday Samsung mobile repair in Texas. And like they did to ohter Nexus S devices from other users they will do the following to mine:
Reflashing the phone -> doing some functional tests ...
... and this is the crazy thing about it. The error we have is just appearing when the phone is in standby and because of this the phone passes the functional tests Samsung is doing at the end of the service. Phone goes back to user. A defective phone.
Some guy managed to keep the phone alive by setting the display turning off after 30mins. He is charging it twice a day
I got a reply from @SamsungSupport on twitter:
Thank you Fabian for again reaching out to us. We are aware of this issue as some of us have your same phone.
An evaluation is already being conducted to determine the fix. We don't have a timeframe of the resolution.
But understand it will be pushed to phones. We will advise once we have a timeframe.

The support team is friendly and to me it feels like they try to do anything they could.
Funny: One guy got a replacement device. But then no one other. Just reflash...
I think they will do something but on the other hand I'm worried that they will do nothing. But time will tell....
Maybe it would help us if Google will be aware of the problem, too. Ok maybe they allready know it, but I don't know that.
So if some of you here do have some connections... please do us a favor and forward this topic or the link to the google support topic. Feel free to forward this topic to any website you think it would write a news about it. Maybe Google will throw a eye on it. My phone is 8 weeks old and yeah this so anoying. And of course all my friends who are iHippster are trolling me like hell.
It don't want to flame or blame Samsung\Google for this. But our phones are in warranty. The error hits only a few devices and so they should replace it. My 50cent about it... this is not a Google expierence they talked about...
I also had the same problem and sent my phone into Samsung. They only re flashed it, which didn't fix the problem. I immediately called Samsung to inform them that the issue was not fixed and they just told me to send it back for "double checking." Do you think it is better to send it back in or just wait for fix to emerge?
I will be sending it back and demand replacing the phone, also making sure they just don't re-flash again. I guess anything but re-flashing could work.
Remember that I've mailed my phone with one page letter explaining the problem. Their response was flashing the phone and sending it back - with my letter.
Here is note from the support team:
----------------------------------------
Original Problem:
Technical Inquiry
Phone Freezing / Locked U
Freeze/Delay Between Menu
Problem found:
NO TROUBLE FOUND
SW,PRL,OTSL RESET
Solution:
Passed All Functional Testing
--------------------------------------
@Samsungservice did not even acknowledge it officially that this is a problem.
Yeah i wrote a letter too explaining the issue and how to recreate it (the first time). They told me that it passed their quality assurance inspection after re-flashing it, which must be very poor because my phone shut off again 15 minutes after receiving it. Just dropped it back off at UPS today. Can they replace the phone because of this issue? I know one person had success, but it doesn't seem anyone else has.
Nexus S faulty
Samsung may not be able to reproduce it after reflashing; as this issue does not seem to occur when connected to a PC/computer via USB. Their automated testing could be over USB.
Looks like more and more people are facing this issue as the day goes by.
Search for "Nexus S fault state" on google and you'll find the google support forum thread discussing it
Guys,
Did anyone have tried to flash a custom rom to see if this will solve the problem ?
cheers !
No, but this problem is not ROM related.

I figured that was why they couldn't recreate the shutdown. Made sure they knew that it has to be unplugged. Mine always shuts off within 10-15 minutes if untouched.
I have same problem.Only remove battery helps. I have been having nexus s for 2 and half months and this problem just came last week. I don't know how to solve it. I tried reflash firmware but didn't help.
welcome to the club. you have to send it to USA to get it serviced (make a extreme detailed problem description and make sure the support worker writes it down 1:1 into their ticket system). they provide a 2day ups shippment label, BUT only to locations in USA.
I can recommend FedEx. They helped me a lot with this duty stuff for shipping to USA. That's not so easy . I paid €50 to get it shipped to a friend of mine in USA.
You have to send only the foreparts of the device. No battery and back panel, no charger and so on. But they will give you all informations at the end of the service request.
or: wait for a hotfix. which maybe never will come.
Update:
I just mailed my phone again... they told me they do not replace phones (not sure what that means yet). The Rep was arguing that if I want the phone replaced then I need to talk to T-Mobile - it does not make any sense.
Anyway, I explained the problem as much as I could and did not mail any notes this time as they obviously do not care for it. But I made sure he included every detail in his notes.
I am very skeptical but still hoping....
Also,
About the part when the phone does not freeze when plugged in or charging. I had my Nexus S charging overnight and it was frozen in the morning.
Update:
Also, I've contacted @SamsungServic via Twitter and asked if their team recognized it as a problem, but I've got no response.
On the other hand if you report the problem to them, they will respond that they will look into it - which means nothing, but if enough people asks the same question them they will have to.
-thanks
I've got some sort of responce via Twitter from @SamsungService, here is what they wrote back:
@SamsungService
Thank you for reaching out to us. We are aware of this issue as some of us have your same phone. An evaluation is already being conducted to determine the fix. @Keinam
Does this mean we should stop sending our phones back for repair and just wait for your OTA update? If it happens?
@SamsungService
Many issues can be resolved with warranty service. Regarding the issue you've referred to,It is my understanding that a fix if being worked on which would be sent out OTA. ^Mary

[Q] Sensation Resetting Constantly?

Ive had this sensation since day one it came out and ever since it was doing light resets showing the HTC splash and going back to the main home screen but now its become much more intense. it does a full restart and everything. I get all the splashes, the TMO one and the HTC one. And it takes forever for it to restart too! It happened to me once while i was on the phone randomly. and other times just when it was chillin in my pocket.
I put ADW Launcher on there but i hope that isnt the reason why it is doing this. My guess is that im killing the memory forcing it to restart but that shouldnt be the case if it is just in my pocket.
Let me know if you guys have had the same issue too.
I will be taking my phone back to my store whilist fighting the 50$ BS restocking fee. Ive had this thing for 4 days and its giving me problems just like the G2x! Ive had so many phones this past 3 months and its become a pain.
Exact the same issue here, and seeing other posts on this forum, we are not the only one... Shop where I bought the phone YESTERDAY (in Holland), does not wan to replace it or return my money, guy just wants to repair it? OK, that's a dodgy side of the shop, but I believe that HTC should do something about this. I think that since yesterday, I have sent about 30 'Abnormal reset' reports. The phone prompted me to send this to HTC and I did.
I hope that you can resolve your issue. Maybe an idea - I have Lebara prepaid card - and it happens every 2 minutes that the phone resets itself. Maybe if you try another card - you might get better luck - but that should not be the point - we just want to use our own sim-cards, right?
If you manage to get the solution - please let me know. Cheers and good luck!!!!
Mine seems to reboot the ui constantly as well. At first it seemed like it was only when I installed large batches of apps. Now I've seen it when closing the browser, closing angry birds, after leaving the settings menu... It seems completely random. Very sad, it looks like I'm returning yet another device and waiting for the next. This is just one of Many issues I've had after only one week of use.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I literally took mine off the charger and it was ON...Got on my Xoom for a second and something told me to grab my phone...So as I hit the power/unlock button nothing happens....i hold it down...nothing...i try the volume and all the others...nothing...
So i finally took the battery off..put it back in and it starts up once i pushed the button...
Thats what i get as far as my issue..basically the phone turns off randomly on its own...I miss all kinds of calls and stuff.
I pray this is addressed in an OTA..cause my 1st unit had 0 issues other than the 1 dead pixel that i should have just dealt with.
This happened to me two of three times today. It seems as if the quality of the software is deteriorating the longer I have had it.
Posted in another thread. Had the phone 5 days and until this afternoon no problems at all. Today it was sitting on my desk, screen dark and spontaneously the boot screen came on and it was booting. Wasn't running anything.
Just using stock Sense, no launchers or even widgets running.
So far just one reboot. Will keep monitoring.
Mine just restarted twice today while I was speaking!
And the gsm signal is really, really bad compared with other phones.
This is just the way that Android works. Launchers (and other apps not currently being used) get pushed out of memory when the memory is needed, such as when browsing with lots of windows open or playing a memory intensive game. When going back to the launcher, it therefore needs to reload.
It's not an error or a bug.
You'd basically be taking you're phone back saying "The OS on my phone is working how it was designed. Please can I have a refund."

[Q] a very serious problem i think (can't even recovery)

hi guys, i already searched for a thread of someone with the same issue, but i haven't found anything on the whole internet (maybe it's just because i'm nervous as sh*t)... please let me know if i did wrong
the problem is: yesterday i was using regularly my Nexus 5, but suddenly i wasn't able to turn it on again. Just like a second before i was using it, and then it won't wake up. Now it is still turned off, i can't wake it up in any way, i tried every combination of keys, i tried holding on the power button for more than a minute, i tried pushing it hard, i tried everything. The only thing i'm able to do is plugging it on the charger, then it goes on a bootloop with the word "google" and a small vibration (just as it's like to turn it on) and then after a second the screen becomes black again, and this happens continuously untill i unplug it (i tried even for 2 hours and it still do like that). It is just like it wants to wake up, but then it is turned off, and on, and off, and on...
when he does like that i tried holding the vol down button just to try to enter the recovery mode, but even when i achieve to enter it, it still turn off so i can't decide what to do. Every guide i read on the web tells me to backup, then to erase all data, or something similar... but the problem is that i can't even access recovery mode, so that i'm not able to do anything if the phone is turned off completely.
i already called for the warranty, i have a completely stock phone so it's not a problem and i think they will change my phone, but i'm really worried this will erase all the data i have in my sd, and i would like to know if there's a way to copy what's inside the memory of the phone without turning it on
sorry guys but i'm really depressed, i've bought the phone on january... not even a year and i've wasted 350€
So, first question have you tried plugging into a computer? You may be able to pull some files off.
Second, was any of your stuff backed up using cloud storage, such as google drive? If not... You have my sympathy.
What app(s) were you running when it "Died"?[Edit: Died]
So you are completely stock, no root, no custom recovery, no nothing?

1) yes i tried: it does the same as if i plug it into the charger (google and vibration for a second, then turned off again, repeatedly). I can't access the data from my pc with the way i was used before (i could copy data only if the phone was on)
2) i use dropbox, google drive, and others, but not with the syncronization (i decided when and what to upload) so there's a lot of things that now aren't accessible and i'm scared i'll lose
3) well i wasn't using anything when it died... i think the cronometer was running, maybe whatsapp... recently i downloaded ePSXe for android with a couple of ROMs, but for a whole week or two i never had problems using it
4) yes completely stock, the only thing i did was abiliting the developer options (but a looong time ago, and i never changed them, i was only curious). With my old smartphone i used to play a lot with custom roms, but now i wanted to keep my nexus clean at least until the end of the warrancy
news from the google service: they told me some procedures to do, any of them work. They told me that their warrancy works like that: first they will send me another nexus 5 (not new, only a refurbished one) for the price of a new phone, then i have to send them my old phone. When it arrives, they will refurbish it, and they will give me back my 350€.
I really think that's not very fair... first because i don't want a phone that somebody used before me, and i don't want to give my phone to someone else
second because they don't really care that i lost all my data... after all this mess i will only obtain a phone that isn't new, and without my data! just like if google erased all my data for nothing.
please guys at least tell me if there's a way to recover all the data i've lost. You know: i have a 16gb flash storage full of data in my hand that i want to copy on my pc, there should be a way!
sorry for the anger
Have you read anything from @supersu or @simms22. Both of them are very knowledgeable on the N5.
The other thing is you could try calling google again and get a different person.

i also read a forum in the country i live (italy) and it seems to be a frequent problem these days... a lot of guys who have a 9-10 months old phone accuse the same issue, and the only solution seems to be the motherboard substitution (or the google warancy phone substitution). Google told me they will give me a refurbished phone, but i know sometimes they have scratches, they are not perfect, so why do i have to trade my phone for another one that could not be new? i know they used to send new phones in the early days... Do you guys have experience in that? have you ever send you nexus5 to google? what did they do?

You get a refurbished one because too many people have RMA'd for silly reasons like loose power buttons, speaker hole size and screen light bleed. So blame them.
Usually a refurbished device should be near-perfect; those who have gotten ones with damage are just unlucky; and you can just call Google again anyways.

i think i'll see if i can get my phone fixed with the LG warrancy in a LGcentre in my town, at least they will tell me if i have to throw my phone away... then i'll use the google warrancy.
to me it sounds as your storage corrupted, not power button. if it was power button, youd be able to get it booted, then it would bootloop. if it is the storage that corrupted, an rma would be best.

Idol 3 lock button/possible hardware issue

Hello everyone, I'm not sure if there's another post about this since I didn't see one but if there is let me know.
For the last few days I've been having a problem that I believe is my lock button going bad but I have no idea because I've never seen this before, a lot of times I have to push it 2 - 4 times to lock or unlock my screen, and holding to get power menu will cause it to lock, unlock, then give me the power menu...
I was on cm 12.1 when this started, so I tried different builds (that I knew had no problems) and it didn't change. I've also went back to stock and still no change so I know it can't be the system or apps.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated because I feel like I'm gonna be losing my phone anytime now and I really can't afford another one right now. Thanks in advance for any help...

I am experiencing the same thing. I rely heavily on double tap to wake now (Side note: DT2W is a mandatory feature for future phone purchases now) . The power button is still an issue when it comes to taking screenshots, and occasionally when Double Tap to Wake gives me issues.
I reached out to Alcatel and I am eligible for free servicing. I've been dragging my feet since I will have to live without my Idol 3 for 1-2 weeks more than likely, but I will be sending it for repairs next week. I will update to let people know how my experience went.
One thing I want to mention is that I bought the phone at launch approximately 11 months ago. The warranty is a one year warranty, so if you bought your Idol 3 at launch and are experiencing any issues, I recommend that you address it sooner rather than later. For me, I want my phone to be fully functional if/when I get Marshmallow.

It's nice to know it's not just me, but this also really sucks, up until now I've seen the idol 3 as a solid strong phone.
I thought about contacting alcatel also but I don't have another phone for a backup either, so if you send it away it'll be awesome if you give updates mostly for future reference.
I bought mine august of last year so I still have time also.

It's actually getting worse already.. And almost unbearable. I'm having to push it up around 10 times to get it to work now, and while it's like that double tap doesn't respond either. This is an extremely weird problem, I really don't understand how double tap and the button can both stop working at the same time, you would think double tap would always work... Unless the mother board is going bad in general, but you would think that would give a lot of other signs besides not unlocking.
Gonna drive me insane [emoji33]
I've been carrying my tablet using my phone for hotspot only, it's sadly easier then fighting it to unlock. I really hope alcatel doesn't play around with repairs.. For the sake of everyone and the fact if they take forever I might reconsider getting an idol 4 when they release...
Edit: I just realized that before this started I've had a weird issue where when I scroll my phone will randomly go into something like I tapped tho I was dragging, it's been frustrating and I didn't consider it to be linked until I just thought of it. Did you have this problem too?
Edit #2: also not unlocking automatically on calls, forcing me to miss calls or im fondling my phone different ways in a hurry hoping I unlock it in time and don't hang up.
Edit #3: also no lock/unlock sounds while having lock issues issues.

Sorry guys, looks like you are going to have to test this with someone else. I have been lazy and frequently popped my sim card out via a thumbnail. Eventually the sim ejector button broke so I can't get my sim/sd card out. I'll just call it a day and stick to my DT2W until I get a new phone in the next year or so.
I'm gonna have to send mine in. I assume I'll have to flash back to stock but that's my only obstacle.
I'm a bit upset that I'll probably lose B12 for T-mo but this is mainly an extra phone for me anyway.

On second thought... I was using Soundcloud today and it was acting buggy so I tried to reset the phone. Power button doesn't register at all now, which means that not only am I unable to reset my phone, but also, if my battery dies, I can't turn the phone back on. Kind of a deal breaker there.
I will call Alcatel again and see what their thoughts are if my Sim/SD Card are stuck in my phone when I send it for repairs.
Yesterday I went to T-Mobile and they had the standard Sim ejector. Took a bit of elbow grease but they managed to pop it open.
Today I dropped the phone off @ a nearby UPS store. Alcatel should receive the phone by end-of-day Thursday as per the UPS worker. I am relegated to my old Nexus 4 for now.
On a somewhat related note, the paid version of Soundcloud is a life saver. I downloaded all of my music/news updates/podcasts onto my tablet via WiFi and now I can listen to everything without needing an internet connection. Should keep me busy for the immediate future.

Well hopefully everything goes well and you get it back soon, I just hope they don't take forever.
I've noticed with mine after I took my case off I'm squeezing around the button and my phone makes a popping/clipping/creaking noise and then the button will work for a few times. So apparently for be it's a separation issue, which is weird because I've never really gave this phone any hard drops. But who knows, could just be a simple design flaw.

One thing I've found that works great is smart lock. I've got it set to never lock when at home or when I have my bluetooth on and connected to my phone. I don't have the power button issues you're having currently, but I thought I'd throw that option out there to make things a bit better for you. At least then when you press the power button the phone just wakes up on the home screen or whatever you were working on previously. I've been using smart lock for about a month without a hitch and it's the greatest feature I've seen for locking and unlocking the phone.

The issue is around waking the phone up when the screen is off, not unlocking the phone.
Anyways, at noon today I got an automated email from Alcatel saying that they had received my phone and will be starting the repair process. So far so good.

I tried the theory of taking off the lock in general hoping that it had anything to do with it but it didn't, it's just screen on/off problems regardless. I can however use an app for unlocking with power buttons that works flawlessly so that definitely confirms that it's the power button.
@macallik that's great to hear, maybe it won't take so long... My problem would be that I don't have a backup phone to use, so if they stay on top of repairs that's awesome.

Any update? I'm about to send my wife's in, but our backup phone is a piece of garbage.
...actually, we call it the dunce phone.

My Nexus 4 seems antiquated so it has been a struggle for me as well.
I haven't gotten any further update yet. I did my Googles and have seen some warranty fulfillments take 2-3 weeks (granted it was a screen replacement) and others take 1-2 days. I am traveling for the week of Memorial Day so hopefully it arrives by Friday. but with each passing day it seems less likely. Utilizing my ZenPad 8.0 tablet a lot more fwiw.
ugh!
My wife broke her Nexus 4, then she broke mine after I upgraded to a Oneplus One. I have a Blu Studio G that we keep around just as an emergency back up, but it is such garbage. takes forever to do anything.
Thanks for letting me know.
@jayb151 Got an email ~20 minutes ago that my package has been shipped and they provided a tracking number. It hasn't arrived at the UPS Facility yet so it is still blank on the tracking page for the most part.
Received the phone back and the power button is functional again. I am going to stick to using Double Tap 2 Wake for the most part since I think that the power button going wonky was more of a design flaw than a random occurrence. They did not fix my broken Sim Card Ejector but I was able to brute force it open.
Overall I am happy with my experience.

Question 7Pro - Screen locked up 2 times now.

I've not seen this with any of my Google phones but today the alarm went off and then the phone locked up while still playing the alarm sound. The screen was stuck at like 2am but it was like 6am at the time. Power and volume up buttons did not work to get to restart. I had to Google the fix and that was to hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
Video of it stuck.
This happened to my wife's Pixel 7 the first morning she had an alarm set with it.
Did you by any chance snooze it half a dozen times? It was only after she refused to get up that it locked. I think maybe it's a feature, not a bug.
That sounds familiar as if it might've happened once on my OG Pixel years ago, but I can't say for sure.

LOL! Good point.
No snoozing and it just locked up for the second time just now. The time is displayed but stuck at 8:16 and it currently 9:57, never had this issue on the 6. I'm wondering if I have bad RAM or something that is causing random lockups.
I do see that it vibrates when I press and hold the power button but I can't see what it's doing with the screen locked up.
Talking to support, they wanted the IMEI number and a picture of the screen? The screen looks normal but is locked up. ???
They have to put me on hold to talk to someone else for each part of the questions. I called Google support but it sounds like someone overseas.
I don't see what they can do, other than replace it. I copied everything from the old phone that was working fine.
They want me to back it up and do a factory reset. I just did that when I got the phone a few weeks ago.
Then they asked that I run the phone in safe mode for a few weeks to see if its a bad app that was installed.
I asked to speak with someone more knowledgeable and they needed to put me on hold again saying I could get an email from someone or wait to talk with someone. They then said I had to give consent for them to look at all my data. ??? After the long hold I was told that I'd be getting an email. Total waste of time.
My screen froze and became unresponsive when I swiped down for notifications while watching non-fullscreen video on Youtube TV. The audio continued to play. I recovered by holding down the power button for 60 seconds to force a reboot. I can't duplicate it though.
I have had these screen freezings too. By pressing power button for 30 sec it boots the phone back up. Then after a minute or an hour it happens again. Had to do factory reset two times already. That's the only thing that helps.
I have no idea of what is causing that.
Mine has done it three times now, had to power cycle it as mentioned above, and each time it was a different app
Here is their suggested fix:
Here are some additional steps to take to try to resolve the issue with your Pixel phone:
Troubleshoot your apps
Perform a factory reset
After each step, check to see if your issue is resolved. If not, continue to the next section.

SystemUI has crashed a few times on mine, which causes a lockup. Rebooting seems to fix it, for the most part.

You can report back that the factory reset fixes the bug for a while. But if I have to do a factory reset every week, I'm going crazy.

Just rebooting the phone fixes it for a little while. That's the trouble with random inconsistent issues. It could take a week or two or more for it to do it again. With a number of others having similar issues I don't think a factory reset again is going to do anything. I just got the phone a month or so ago and it was at factory default. What good would it do to put it back to factory again? Sounds just as unreasonable as using my phone for several weeks in safe mode to see if it's another program causing the problem.
Woke up this morning and the phone had rebooted.
RMA your device keep trying until you get someone that understands your issue. Google support is absolute rubbish and if the rep doesn't understand that you're losing all touch input just hang up and try again. It's frustrating but it's sadly the only way you'll be able to get your phone swapped out. I had this problem on my P6P and only a RMA solved my problem.
They offered to let me send it in and let their techs look at it for 2-3 weeks or take it to a local shop. I was surprised that there was an authorized shop in my city but what are they going to do with a phone that reboots every 5 or 6 days? I've not even had it 30 days but they said it was too long just be able to return it. You have 15 days. I pushed back and they set up a replacement but not before telling me about the option to mail it in a wait a few weeks. Who can be without their phone for a few weeks. I have to buy a new one and then have 30 days to return this one.
I do wonder if it's a software issue that Google will fix at some point but don't think so. There is a thread on their support forum that has not been locked yet with a number of folks with what sounds like the same issue.
Oh wait it's 21 days to return it.
"Remember that if we don’t receive your old item 21 days after your replacement ships, you will be charged $968.67, which is the full value of your replacement item."

I would attribute it to buggy software. My 7 pro locked up about a week into ownership. The last time I had a phone lock up was my last pixel phone (the 3). Not sure what it is but it always clears up after a couple updates. Maybe the same will happen for you.

I believe it's part of their call flow offering the repair shop or mail in option. There's always the advanced RMA option where they put a hold on a card you provide and the temp charge is removed once they receive the defective device. If you don't want the chance at getting a refurbished replacement do the advanced RMA sooner rather than later.
The phone froze on me 3 times already - 2 times using Samsung browser, 1 time on Chrome.
Android 13 QPR1 Beta 3.1 introduces a GPU fix, which will hopefully resolve this issue:
Fixed issues where a device's GPU drivers sometimes caused the system UI to freeze during normal device use.
I'm swapping it out for a new(?) one. Hopefully all goes well.
