Verizon Pixel 4a running Android 11
I have a powered hub that uses a 5V 3.6 power adapter. There are three devices connected to the hub via USB A connectors - midi keyboard, audio interface and midi controller. If the hub is connected to power and I plug the OTG cable in the Pixel 4a goes into charging mode and the devices connected don't communicate via USB. If I disconnect the hub's power adapter and then plug in the OTG cable the devices communicate. The draw at the point with the screen on according to Ampere is 550mah. If I then plug in the power adapter it drops to about 180mah with the screen set to lower brightness.
I have two questions regarding this setup:
1. Is there any way to have USB communication and charge the phone at the same time?
2. Is there a way to programmatically control whether the phone is charging or communicating over OTG using an app or Tasker?
Thanks,

Hi,
I'm experimenting with USB OTG through hub in P3100, with CM11. My active usb hub has a LED that shows whether it is powered from USB host, or from DC adapter. Now my tablet works in two different ways:
1. Tablet is Off -> I connect USB hub without external DC -> Tablet On -> Hub LED shows that it is powered by tablet, it can work without DC adapter
2. Tablet restart -> I connect USB hub without external DC -> Hub LED shows that it is not powered by tablet, I can power it by DC adapter to make it work
Can someone tell me is it normal behaviour, and if so, is there any way to switch between these modes?

Hi,
I'm trying to use an android device with a USB C connector on a local wired network while still keeping it powered.
In the past I've achieved this just fine on an older device with a microUSB port and a microUSB Hub that had power + OTG USB to which I attached an USB to Ethernet Connector.
Currently I've tried using an Anker Premium USB-C Hub with Ethernet and Power Delivery.
A few months ago this hub would only power the device, but Ethernet/USB would not work.
With the latest updates (Android 7.1.1) either Ethernet works, but the device doesn't charge(if I connect the hub first, then power the hub)
or the device charges but Ethernet doesn't work (if I power the hub first, then connect Ethernet).
With the micro-USB Connector I've also spotted a pinout diagram that shows to provide power + OTG here:
http://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/34741/can-an-android-tablet-serve-as-usb-host-and-be-charged-simultaneously-through-a
But I couldn't find an USB C equivalent pinout.
Any hints/tips on how I could both power and USB C connected Android device and keep it connected on an Ethernet Network ?
Thank you,
George
Could some one please suggest a way in which I can avoid running down the phone's battery when accessing the internet via a hard wired connection into the USB micro port of my mobile phone?
Do you think this would work?

For this purpose I do not want to access the internet on the phone by wireless.

I have tried:
IA micro to usb adapter: Plugable: Model USB2-OTGE100. It does not have a power supply and uses my phone's battery to power the adapter.
A Micro-B usb hub that has 3 standard usb outputs and one power input. It also has a Charge to OTG switch and it does not do what I want as it does not charge the phone at the same time as browsing the internet.
I want use the LG V30 as a streaming audio device and connect it to my HiFi setup via external DAC - audiolabs mini M-DAC.
This DAC has an PC/Android OTG micro USB port for connectivity and also a built in battery for optional portable use. I leave the DAC plugged into power and don’t use it as a portable device.
When I connect the V30 to the audiolabs mini M-DAC using a standard USB-C to micro USB cable the phone goes into USB “Power Supply” connection mode. Although the audio works fine with the DAC using the USB Audio Player Pro app it rapidly depletes the phone battery.
I have tried to manually switch the USB connection mode to “Charging” and others but it just reverts back to “Power Supply” connection mode.
Can anyone help figure this out ?
I don’t think this issue is limited to V30 phone and no one in the V30 thread has been able help with it. For this reason I’m trying the general QA.
I’m guessing the issue is to do 2 way charging offered by USB-C port. Ideally I would like the phone to be able connect to the DAC and draw power from it or at least remain passive.
My phone is Rooted if that helps.
