Can you assign more than one action to a keyEvent ? - General Questions and Answers

Hi all. I have a Lenovo tablet M8 that refuses to have more than 15 volume steps from the hard buttons - Iv given up trying - nothing works. So a way round this may be to use a super simple app called - volume control. Its just a soft slider with finer control. To use it you just tap the icon then tap or drag the slider to the volume you want then it automatically disappears after 2 seconds.
Say I wanted to re-assign the actions mapped to the f6 key (this would actually be a hard button volume up / down as this works now with my cars Can to HID setup)
The first action would be to open the VC app and the second would be to increment / decrement. Can you create and script that can be assigned to a key press within Android?

Did you try xposed?

Change Volume buttons to scroll buttons

Hi all,
Been looking around for a way to change my volume buttons so that i can use it to scroll up and down (using goodlink and everytime i click on a item it goes into that item and not do a show preview on the preview panel)
Does anyone know of a bit of kit that would do this job? Have looked at "advanced config" but cant seem to find a way to change/map the volume buttons to make them scroll up and down a list.
Thanks
Sorry all...looks like i answered myy own question. Finally found the below to sort out what i need and it works with the topaz!.
Sorry for the same and FYI the thread is below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409243&highlight=remap+volume
"What works for me is AEButton Plus (payware, no affiliation). I have reconfigured my volume buttons to single press = arrow up/down and long press to volume. The program has a nice function: you can choose to let the volume buttons have their default behavior during a phonecall.."
Fine, thank u. And it works on your Touch Diamond 2 Topaz?
yep works a treat on my Diamond 2 topaz
...i do have netcf 3.5 installed before i installed AE buttons aswell for other programs (not sure if that will matter for AE buttons)
im not really getting along with it.
cant see the optino for changing what the volume keys do etc.
Also, would it be possible to set a longer hold of the End Key that would launch the camera application and be used as shutter button?
Thanks
Hmm, interesting thoughts! Especially if the remap is done automatically, and only when the camera is launched.

PK

I believe this issue with scrolling will be resolved with WM6.5 when you can slide the bar up/down to do a selection. In the meantime I use a simple method to scroll/select - say a SMS message. I open the abc phone pad (icon at bottom of screen) and then use the up/down keys (at the bottom) to scroll.
AE Button Plus
Just to confirm.. AE Button Plus DOES allow you to remap the volume buttons to up/down arrows. Just installed it on mine (Touch Diamond 2) and it works perfect.
The setting-up routine isn't obvious though.
When you see your list of keys in AEBP, pres and HOLD on the "Volume up" item. Takes a few seconds for the config menu to pop up.
I then used the following options from the config screen:-
3. Handle by AEBPlus
1. Single Press
5. Press Up arrow key
Then do the same for the Volume Down key, obviously changing the last option to 6. Press Down arrow key.
Then File/Save & Exit, and off you go.

Try this...

This program can assign any of the hardware buttons to do what you want...
I've set the back button Launch the 'camera' app if it is held for a while and to act as the capture button when taking a picture. It also acts like a normal 'back' button when in other apps such as file explorer, opera, etc.

Using the software provided in this thread it's possible:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555821
See this thread where I explain how to do that:

Works like a charm!!
You can remap all your hardware buttons.
Cheers
Can some one post AEBPlus.cfg/ Button registry
I copy my button's from att tilt ( registry exported adn imported thru back up and restore process) so now on my Pure I have many buttons. Can some post their AEBPLus.cfg adn button registry export?

AE Button Plus Not Working

Hello all,
I installed AE Button Plus 2.6.6.1 in my Topaz, with ROM 1.39.405.2 WWE. I tried unsuccessfully to remap both the Windows and the Back key, but nothing happened... By the way, the Back key did not exist, and I used the "Add Key" function to capture it; however, when I pressed it, the check box "Win Key" in AEBP was auto-checked... In any case it doesn't matter much, since as I said neither it nor the original Win key worked...
Has anyone used AEBP in Topaz with success? Any other key mapping software you would recommend?
The back key is actually the OK key.. that's confirmed.
I know the results of using the software is abit unexpected.. you'll have to experiment around.
I use it for my VOL up and down keys, and mapped it to UP and DOWN respectively. When I press and hold the keys, thats when I get to control the volume. Generally, my volume is always set to max, so Up and DOWN functionality is more important for me.
Now.. I can use my VOL up and down buttons to fast-forward and reverse video playback in CorePlayer
It seems like Manilla is blocking the Win key and OK/back key.
With Manila disabled you can control all keys. Note that you have to map all keys once you have mapped some of Win / Ok / Call End. AE shows this info too.
And my mapping :
Vol Up/Down single press - Arrow Up/Down
Vol Up/Down long press - Vol Up/Down
Call Start single - Call start
Call Start double - Left Softkey
Call Start triple - Task manager
Call Start long - Enter
Win Key single - Left Arrow
Win Key long - Start menu
OK Key single - Right Arrow
OK Key long - OK/Close
Call End single - Call End
Call End double - Right Softkey
Call End triple - Screen On/Off
Works great and I can control most of apps without tapping (really useful in Total Commander, I have really small font in there)
But there is a problem controlling games - some of them ignore AE Buttons - and for the others the key presses come too slow.
Have fun!

So you mean that if I want the AEBP to work I must not use TF3D? Then there is no point in having it...
That's right, after deactivating TF3D I was able to map all keys.
Maybe just enabling standard start menu and volume control will help (search for registry tweaks).
Since I am only needing an "OK" (or "Enter") key (like the one in TD1), is there a way to do it myself by modifying a reg key? I also searched Advanced Config, but it seems to offer only soft keys remapping...

end key app?

hello, could anyone link me to an app that lets you modify the use of your hardware buttons? like long press to launch camera etc

Hi,
Can you clarify 'works perfect' on the TG01 - I am using the (registered) Buttons Plus, but have only been able to get it to support a single alternative button press on the Camera, bottom 'Zoom' bar and right-hand 'OK' button.
Could you please share your settings which allow you to get it to work with multi-settings per button, and also specify buttons are you able to get it to work with ?
Would be really appreciated
Many thanks,

As known, TG01 don't have hardware buttons....so when I say "perfect" I mean as perfect as possible....
I don´t use camera button (I'm afraid camera could fail)
I'm using only volume buttons and the zoom bar.
Volume UP:
1. Single press: PageDn
2. Double press: PageUp
3. Triple press: Switch Display Off/On
Volume DOWN:
1. Single press: "Resco Audio Recorder -rec"
2. Double press: "Resco Audio Recorder -exit"
3. Triple press: Switch Display Off/On
Zoom bar: (Button #405C)
Alt+Tab (Change between opened apps)
How to map zoom bar:
a) Open AEBPlus (I have v2.6)
b) Tap Left softkey: File
c) Add button
d) Add Key (Touch the zoom bar: The program detects Key code 405C as Win Key)
e)Tap Add Key
You'll have a new button called Button #405C
Tap & Hold over the new line (Button #405C) and assign Alt+Tab to it
The program ask to self reset, say Yes and .... here you are!
some doubts
You seem knoweleagble: I would like to receive your suggestions
I onw two units of HD2, I am trying to understand how to use AE buttons, then I will surely buy it, but I have many doubts…
Questions:
1. Where can I find a complete tutorial?
2. Where can I find a help, to understand each functions? I mean, not FAQ, just a help file.
3. from AEBPlus Settings > add button > ONLY 2 hardware buttons can be captured (the one with white backspace arrow on it and the home with a home depicted on it)
the other 5 buttons cannot be sensed: I mean
- phone button: if pressed the phone canvas appear, the ADD KEY screen disappears and no key code appears
- same story for the phone-OFF button and for the volume up and volume down buttons.
4.
Since at least one button is recognized (the white backspace) I have set it to work as follows:
1st short press > open contacts
2nd key press > open excel
3rd key press > open opera
4th key press > calculator
But ONLY short press and long press do work! The other 2 cannot work (Therefore I cannot open excel and opera…)
Additionally: if I want to open CONTACTS, I just need to press short and CONTACTS application appears on my screen
If I want to use CALCULATOR > I need to press AND HOLD! If so CALCULATOR shows up. If I pull off my finger from the hardware button > calculator disappears and the home page comes back…
Please can you explain what I am doing wrong?
Thanks and waiting for any help and suggestions

About long.. and short.lnk on HD2

Hi,
I want to configure my HD2 like this:
Short press on End = Default
Long press on End = Power off
Short press on Back = Default
Long press on Back = Start HTC Flashlight
..and so on for all the hard buttons, Green, Red (End), Back, Home, Windows, Vol Up, Vol Down.
I have read several (and I mean several) threads about creating own shortcuts, but I still haven't found the answer..
Long_Power.lnk/Short_Power.lnk/Long_Send.lnk/Short_Send.lnk etc.
Does anyone know if this method works on HD2 and if so, exactly which buttons that are configurable and which names the shortcuts shall have?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your tip, but I'd prefer own shortcuts/registry hacks if possbile as I try to minimize the number of applications to install/maintain/buy for a very specific reason.
Rename the INK file of the preferred program to LONG_SEND and copy this INK file to WINDOWS root directly. Press and hold the SEND hardkey will execute that preferred program. But the SEND key may not work when there is an incoming call.
Tried AE Button Plus but fail to work with the BACK button.

I hope someone else may find method to override the default function of the keys other than SEND. Currently I am using Touchx long press send key for connmanager and you may select other installed program for the long press send key. I have also tried AE Button Plus but the Windows, Home and Back key all cannot be controlled by AE Button no matter double, triple nor long tap.

What can be remapped?
There is NO GUARANTEE any of these buttons will work and this app isn't designed to control games. Your device's OEM/vendor can prevent them from being remapped.
ONLY HARDWARE buttons can be remapped.
• Volume buttons.
• Navigation buttons.
• Bluetooth/wired keyboards and mice connected to your device.
• Buttons on other connected devices should also work but there is no guarantee.
You can combine multiple keys to form a "trigger" and have as many triggers as you want for each action. You can make a key map only work on a long press and to vibrate as well.
What can’t be remapped?
• Pixel Active Edge
• OnePlus Alert Slider
• Power button
• Bixby button
Your key maps don't work if the screen is OFF.
What can I remap my keys to do?
Some actions will only work on rooted devices and specific Android versions.
• Open an app
• Open an app shortcut. This feature is very useful since you can tell another app to do something Key Mapper can’t. E.g If your launcher has a shortcut to open the app drawer, you can select that shortcut in this app and make any button open the app drawer.
• Go back
• Go home
• Open recents
• Open menu
• Expand notification drawer
• Expand quick settings
• Collapse status bar
• Toggle/enable/disable WiFi
• Toggle/enable/disable Bluetooth
• Toggle/enable/disable mobile data (ROOT only)
• Toggle/enable/disable NFC (ROOT only)
• Toggle Play/pause media
• Pause/play media
• Next/previous track
• Fast forward/rewind
• Volume up/down
• Increase/decrease a specific volume stream
• Cycle through and change the ringer mode
• Show the volume dialog
• Mute/unmute/toggle mute (Android 6.0+)
• Toggle/enable/disable auto-rotate
• Force portrait/landscape mode
• Switch between portrait and landscape mode
• Toggle/enable/disable auto-brightness
• Increase/decrease brightness
• Toggle/enable/disable flashlight (Android 6.0+)
• Take a screenshot (Android 9.0+)
• Open the Google Assistant
• Open camera
• Consume key event (Do nothing)
• Lock the device
• Move the cursor to the end
• Toggle/show/hide the keyboard
• Show the keyboard picker (ROOT only for Android 8.1+)
The Key Mapper input method needs to be selected for these to work and you can’t use a soft keyboard at the same time:
• Input a specific keycode
• Input a key
• Insert a block of text
More will be added. If you have any ideas, leave a comment or email the developer.
What other things can the app do?
• Option to show a persistent notification which can pause/resume your keymaps. It can also open the accessibility settings on the device to enable/disable the service. Rooted devices can start/stop the accessibility service without going into settings and just tap the notification.
• Automatically change the input method to the Key Mapper one and/or show the input method picker when a chosen Bluetooth device is connected and switch back to the old one when it is disconnected.
• Option to show a toast message whenever an action is performed.
• Option to log events and send them to the developer so it is easier to debug issues with the app.
Planned features
• Double tap to perform an action
• Remap media (i.e volume, headset) buttons when the screen is off. Android only allows apps to detect media buttons when the screen is off.
• Action to broadcast an intent with extras.
• Multiple profiles which can be activated and deactivated automatically when a Bluetooth device is connected or when you open an app.
• Integrate the AOSP keyboard into the Key Mapper input method so a soft keyboard can be used at the same time.

I haven't tried using buttons on a Bluetooth headset but I have tried using the buttons on a wired headset and it does work. Most buttons should work as long as they don't have a proprietary implementation in the Android skin you're using. E.g Bixby, Pixel Active Edge. XDA doesn't allow new members to put links in posts until they have posted 10 times for security reasons. Once I can, I will definitely put links in the description.

Thanks! That's now been added to the planned features. Would you say the app is stable enough to come out of beta?
New version!
1.1.0 Beta 1
Added
Setting to change the long-press delay.
Persistent notification which can pause/resume your remaps. It can also open the accessibility settings on the device to enable/disable the service. Rooted devices can start/stop the accessibility service without going into settings and just tap the notification.
Use Material Design 2 for homescreen.
Bugs Fixed
Persistent notifications wouldn't show on boot
The app would crash if using the "open google assistant" action if the Google app wasn't installed.
Prevent the accessibility service from stopping if there is a fatal exception and show a toast when it happens.
New version!
1.1.0 Beta 2
Won't immediately crash on KitKat anymore!
Bug Fixes
Persistent IME notification wouldn't automatically show when it is enabled.
App would crash if it couldn't find the device's accessibility settings page.
Feature request:
App currently conflicts if the same button is mapped twice
Example
Short press mute = play/pause
Long press mute= open notification drawer
Result:
Long press mute results in both actions being performed.
Expected result:
Long press mute key should not activate the short press mapping
Fixes:
1. Change short press so that it ONLY activates if the button is RELEASED before the long press kicks in (should be around 500ms)
(Long press delay meaning how long the key must be held before performing the function)
Long press actions should happen if the button is NOT released within that time.
2. Multi-triggers should have a flag for "in sequence" that makes them work in sequence instead simultaneously. In sequence enabled should also Grey out / disable the long press flag on the current trigger.
And you should be able to set the same trigger twice.
Example: vol up, vol up = quick settings
To do this, you'd have to make it so that short presses are only activated if the button is released before the long press delay AND there are no other key presses within 300ms of releasing it
Great app.
Thanks

Thanks for the feedback! I'll try to implement/fix these problems. They should be relatively easy to fix (hopefully). ?
New version!
1.1.0 Beta 3
Reduced the repeat delay to 5ms
Force expand the menu on the homescreen
Made the cards on the homescreen slightly more compact
Added
Flag to vibrate and an option to force vibrate for all actions
Action which just consumes the keyevent and does nothing
Action to lock the device (ROOT only for now) and an option to lock the device securely (without root).
Bug fixes
The bottom app bar on the homescreen would overlap the list items
The app would potentially crash when trying to perform a flashlight action whilst the camera is in use in another app.
Short press actions with the same trigger as a long press action would be performed with the long press action
A keymap would still have the "Show volume dialog" flag if the action is changed to a non volume related action
The app would crash if trying to show the menu on the homescreen if it is already showing.
The accessibility service status on the homescreen wouldn't change when the service is started/stopped.

Do the other buttons also work? I'm guessing the Netflix and Live buttons don't send a standard KeyEvent which apps installed by the user can see. Xiaomi probably have some agreement with Netfix to have that button there to drive more people to Netflix which is why they don't want us changing it.

Most buttons work, home, back, left, right, up and down are recognized propperly. OK and 'all apps' (not sure if it the right name of that button) have no name in triggers but they work. If I try to record trigger with vol. up or down, it is not recorded, it just changes the volume. The mic. button is recorded with no name, but when I try to use it to trigger the action it does nothing.

Hmmm... I'll firstly add names to more buttons so they aren't blank. I'm sorry but I don't really know what to do. This behaviour sounds like the accessibility service is broken somehow and needs disabling and then enabling. This has happened to me before during development. But it is likely those buttons won't work. It's quite hit and miss when it comes to non-standard buttons/controllers unfortunately.
No success with Bixby button on S10
