Best ROM/KERNEL combo for OnePlus 8? - OnePlus 8 Questions & Answers

I just bought his phone about a week ago, haven't unlocked the bootloader or anything yet. This IS the T-Mobile variant. I just have a few questions if anyone could be so kind as to answer them. I am familiar with rooting/installing custom roms/kernels and have been doing so for a few years across a few different phones.
What's the best ROM/KERNEL combo?
I do like the default ROM (which I believe is OxygenOS), but am looking to get rid of T-Mobile bloatware and possibly get a better performance from the battery. I was reading from a few different people that the battery life on the standard rom isn't the greatest.
Does this phone I have being the OnePlus 8 5G (T-Mobile), have a certain keyword I'm looking for when downloading roms such as the google pixel 2xl walleye, taimen?
Thank you

New Device Questions

I am nearing the end of my contract with Sprint and will be going to Verizon. I have moved to a new area and that is who has the best local coverage. That said, I have a couple questions before I buy a new device.
First. I have always liked Motorola devices. They seem to have the best reception and physical build. Do the current Moto phones still have an unlockable bootloader? As with my previous device (Photon 4G), it will only be a matter of days before I will unlock, root, install a custom recovery, and flash a custom ROM. Are there any recommendations or things to look out for?
Second is battery life and features. What is good as far as Moto is concerned?
And finally. I have been eyeing the Samsung Galaxy S4. Is it a good device? The main thing for me is reception and I have heard that Samsung's radios are not always the best. A phone that has a great camera and is very customizable by different ROMs doesn't mean a whole lot when reception is poor when you are in an area where coverage is excellent.
If I were to choose a non-Moto device it would be the GS4. What does everyone think?
Anyone?

Not sure about the unlockable bootloader, but as for battery life Motorola has a host of phones that have great battery life. I think you have to get more specific on what Moto device you want. The GS4 is a good phone however, touchwiz makes it lag a lot.
The thing is I'm not sure what I want, but being able to run Cyanogenmod is high on the list. I currently use a Motorola Photon 4G running CM10.
I guess I need to figure out what can and can't be unlocked. From what I have read that could be the trick as Verizon has most things locked down fairly tight. I was hoping that someone in the community could help there.
Yeah I read about how Verizon does things. I think the best thing you can do right now is get a pool of devices your interested in and head on over to their respective forums because you'll get answers in much more detail.

Which phone has the most custom development?

I am a flashaholic, and I'm always looking for new kernels and ROMs to flash, but my current phone isn't that popular among devs. So I'm looking for phones that have lots of ROMs and kernels available to flash. What are your suggestions? Thank you in advance
Go for Google devices, they are the easiest to work with. The Pixel line is too new, if you need to flash. We just got root today, so no ROMS available yet. All of the Nexus phones have tons of ROMs to play with, and probably the least amount bugs too.
Nexus Nexus Nexus....
Nexus phones, or maybe one plus phones

Not Much of A ROM Scene, Is There...

So my Nexus 5 is getting a little old in the tooth and as I was shopping around for cheap phones, I noticed that you can buy new G920Vs on ebay for like $200. Without doing much research I bought the phone. I assumed we would at least have the basics like Lineage OS, but it seems like all we have are a few lollipop-based ROMs, and nothing AOSP based? Please tell me I'm wrong :crying:
If you can, sell the S6 on ebay and put that money towards a new Nexus 6P. The scene over there is much better I hear.
G900v has locked bootloader. thats is why there isn't much "rom scene". simple. other varients of s6 that have unlocked their bootloader has many more things available. just search the appropriate section.
i'd say do not go for any ATnT or verizon if you're into experiencing new roms.

interesting phone?!

the meizu m6 note is very interesting to me for the specs and price. I might've gotten it over rn4 if I knew about it sooner. there's a lot of sd 625 phones out there and this is the only one I heard about having really good battery life and camera at the same time for under 200. probably beats some 300-400 phones too in terms of battery and camera balance. a few problems atm could be the lte bands and no custom roms but still seems great for those who like to stay on stock. camera is already good from what I read so might not need the google one that badly yet and there's also root option in settings. I've been on miui 9 for a bit and don't mind being on it for a while longer. it makes me wonder how different flyme os is. if battery is similar for both on stock and camera for m6n is already good out of the box without any tweaks needed then I'd probably regret the rn4 unless my experiences with custom roms can make it a lot better but I heard miui has the best battery life compared to most of them. I'm also wondering how google camera on rn4 would compare to m6n stock camera. idk much when it comes to hardware vs software but I'm planning to try it on my rn4 soon. apologies if i've offended any rn4 users i'm still noob because its new to me. maybe i shouldn't have posted about it before trying things first but i did need a comparison with another similar device. support for m6n would be great! even though i haven't bought one yet..

Custom ROM support

I'm interested in this phone and wondering what custom ROM support may be like for the device? I had a quick look at the pixel 4 and it's not massively supported but I don't really know how recent or popular it is?
I'm currently using a Xiaomi mi9t with pixel experience+. I know the p4a will be similar if not the same minus the additional features added in the pe+ version, which I quite like tbh.
I know it's early days and probably most can't even get their hands on the phone yet but curious what you might expect based on previous pixel devices?
I would also be interested in this. The 4a's "stock" Android is fine, but there are very few customization options. For example, the setting to hide specific Satus Bar icons is available in Settings but greyed out and inaccessible. I would really love to install LineageOS on this device.
As for popularity, the Pixel 4 was expensive and had poor battery life, so I don't think it had many adopters. The 4a on the otherhand is a steal at $350 and in a post-COVID world, I can see many people who need a new device going for the budget option. I really hope this helps us build a large development community
I plan on staying stock for a few weeks, but rooting and flashing roms is a weekly thing for me. I'm sure there will be plenty fairly quickly. Our codename is "sunfish", right? Much better than my current dumpling.

One of the main developers at DU got one, it's a safe bet ROMs will be available
I would be super shocked if this device does not get any rom support as popular as it is. I believe a couple of devs have said they will start developing roms.
