I purchased a pixel 4a 5g yesterday secondhand and it turns on and everything works except for the fact that it won't detect the SIM and shows no network in the top right of the screen. It won't allow me to use mobile data at all. Somebody hopefully has repaired this issue before and can advise me what to do?? Thanks
Try doing a factory reset to the phone - maybe the first owner had the phone configured to use an eSIM so it may ignore physical SIM cards.

I've tried the factory reset. Also flashed a couple different firmwares that I downloaded from Google
Just tried flashing Lineage 18 and after a successful flash I still have no sim detected and no data. The guy I bought it off said that his kids may have dropped it in some water but If it was water damage I don't think it would turn on at all. I'm at wits end with the thing.

Hi guys
my brother bought a brand new galaxy note 10.1 couple a days ago and it worked fine, the day before yesterday he accidently insert a micro sim in the slot..it took his wife quite a while and a hairpin to remove it successfully and then he inserted a normal sim and it worked fine. but yesterday he removed it without turning the device off (tried different one to copy the contacts) and now the device cant read the sim...i tried to factory reset it, code reset and tried new sim but didnt work
can someone please help me
Well some connector must have damaged since its a new note take it to a service center tell them it is not working since day one it will be declared DOA and would be replaced
im done like waht your wife done and i destroy all pin when removing micro sim when i went to service center thay tell me we cant fix it and i go to another small shop i told him this problem and he fix my note ne and working well now he change sim house with him self in 2 hours
first of all thank you all for your quick reply
secondly...i dont think it is a hardware problem since the sim was working perfectly till he removed it accidentally
there is however another point i noticed minutes ago, although there is no sim card the tablet show signal bars beside the "emergency calls only"
thought i mentioned it
Well there is a hardware failiure with the sim module may if you have seen how the sim connect to the connectors in a cell phone u will know that the connectors come out a little while removing the micro sim you must have done some damage what it is we do not either the two connectors have inter connected none the less there is some failiure

but the sim worked after the removal of the micro sim for two whole days (calls and data)....it wasnt till the accidental removal that this happened
It appears the problem is that you are not getting the answer you want, however it is the answer.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using xda app-developers app
Only three choices .
One try a new sim
Two factory reset .
Three a service centre .
As number three may be damage not warranty i would try one and two first .
jje
Have you tried another sim card?
If it didn't work your solution is as already told a service center.
Am having the same problem and i didnt hamper the hardware.
it happened after i updated
Hi all,
yesterday out of nowhere my moto g LTE lost all signal and instead is displaying "NO SERVICE". Iv'e tried reboot, soft reset, factory reset, removing and re-inserting the sim card, putting in another sim - nothing. the issue is not with the sim itself as I now have it in another device I have and everything is working great. anything I can do about this? tried searching for a solution but didn't find anything I didn't try already... the phone is quite new( ~7 months old) but I bought it while abroad and I'm not sure about warranty and such...
any help would be GREATLY appreciated
It normally does that when the phones been blocked by your provider.
You should ring them and double check it with them.
If not may be a dodgy antenna
I checked with my cell provider, and then re-checked my SIM with another device. everything was working perfectly. so the issue is indeed with the device =/ is there anything I can do about it? =/
I have the exact same problem, also tried factory reset and put on the stock rom, is it possible to change for a new antenna to find out if this is the real problem?
Hi!
I have a Sasmgun Galaxy S4 (gt9500 I think...). A couple of months ago I got my unlock pin code from my carrier and unlocked it.
Yesterday the phone went down after the battery ran out. When I turned it back on , It complained saying that the Sim card was inserted but was not valid.
I tried that chip in another phone, all good.
I tried a working gsm chip on my phone, no good.
So, any chip I put in my phone shows the same message...
Also I call my carrier and asked if my cell or line was marked as lost or stolen, but nop. Everything was fine at their end.
Is my cell phone broken? What could I try?
Thanks!!!
samsung always have that issue... even galaxy s5,s6,s6 edge faces that problem... you dont need to active it again.. its a simple glitch.. try to do simple tricks by googling,youtubing...
hit thanks button if helped
I tried inserting it again.
I tried setting factory defaults.
I tried gsm chips from my own carrier and other carriers...
Nothing.
Hey there, everyone.
I've had my Z5 for over a year now, it's been running completely fine and have been happy with the phone. However last Wednesday my SIM card doesn't seem to work anymore. Let me rephrase that, the Z5 no longer reads the sim card. I have tested the SIM on two other phones ( one Locked to O2 and one Unlocked) and the SIM does work on both.
I've tried many things such as :
Searching Google + XDA, however the threads seem to be 2-3 years old.
Hard resetting the phone
Taking the SIM card out and gently cleaning it
Upgraded phone to 32.2.A.5.11
Downgraded the phone to 32.1.A.1.163
Tried to turn the Radio ON in the *#*#4636#*#* , didn't do anything, won't turn ON.
doing a factory reset did not work.
I am beginning to think the SIM card slot inside the phone is somehow damaged or moved position.
Any ideas? I'm stuck.
Guess it's an hardware problem, if so, you're screwed but if you have a warranty (seller or Sony) try to use it, I can't help you further sorry mate
I purchased a used US version Rog Phone 5 recently through an online seller. When receiving the phone, I gave it a good once over and powered it on and tested wifi and such and everything seemed to be in good working order. I then rooted the phone and set most of stuff up. After inserting my sim card, I noticed the cell reception was not that great. I suffered through for a couple of days but was missing calls and texts like crazy. I was constantly dropping reception entirely in areas where I have very good signal with other phones. The phone is essentially useless now. I tried several factory resets, flashed back to the non-rooted boot image, and then flashed to an older firmware with no improvements to signal. I can't imagine the reception issue is in any way related to the rooting process, but I'm throwing this out there just in case anyone has seen anything similar in the past.
A few things to note:
I am on AT&T
The APN is definitively configured correctly
I could have returned the phone to the online seller for a refund prior to unlocking the bootloader, but did not insert a sim before rooting, so I have no idea whether the issue was present from purchase or not. Lesson learned, I suppose... do a more thoroughly inspection before doing anything that will void a warranty or refund agreement.
I have tried the same sim in two other phones with no issues.
Everything else about the phone seems to work perfectly, only poor reception.
I had the phone up to approximately 30 miles from my house with no change, so it isn't limited to a specific tower.
Does anyone have any ideas? If I don't come up with anything I will be posting it on ebay as "not working - for parts only" so I will try about anything at this point.
Sim recognition issue
Owned the phone for about a month now. Phone was working perfectly fine for the majority of this time. I use 2 different sims and they were both working smoothly until recently. A few days ago, I woke up and the phone wouldn't recognize the Sim...

sim card problem
just all of sudden it became invalid sim try multiple time reset or clear data cache sim toolkit original sim to other phone is working other sim to original phone is working other sim to other phone is working anyone face the same problem...

Sounds like they pawned the issue off on you, but it should still be under warranty to have it repaired. When you contact Asus, don't mention unlocking the bootloader. Stick to the hardware concerns.
I have looked over both of those threads, but it seems to be a different issue. My sim is recognized fine, its just the signal strength that appears to be extremely low. Even when the phone has no service at all, it still recognizes the AT&T sim is present.

Yes, it is not the same issue, but it appears to be a similar issue. The important detail being that both required a motherboard replacement.
