Hi all, I am a new owner of the ROG Phone 5 Tencent version. I got it from Jingdong(a Chinese Amazon-like platform) and I have been busy flash my phone for the last couple of days. Now I got my phone converted to WW(sort of) and I am going to start using it as my regular phone - bye-bye Oneplus 6.
It's actually a back and forth process of the conversion. I manage to get the phone converted to WW at the first attempt. However, I am not happy with the HardwareStub warning message and the fact I am not able to receive OTA. Then I restore my phone back to CN version and try to live with the CN version. I tried to debloat + install GApps however I don't like it. Last night I flash my phone with the latest WW firmware.... again. I still hate this HardwareStub notification, so I decompiled the HardwareStub apk. From the source code, I found a function checking the value of the property ro.boot.image.valid. If this property is not "Y", then the warning message will be set and persist on the notification bar. Then I use dumped all the props from adb shell to verify the theory. Yes, it's not "Y".
[ro.boot.image.valid]: [N]
I also noticed some other props that still indicating CN flag despite all others using WW.
[ro.boot.country_code]: [CN]
[ro.boot.product.override]: [CN_I005D]
[ro.build.description]: [CN_I005D-user ***build number***]
[ro.odm.build.fingerprint]: [asus/CN_I005D/ASUS_I005_1 ***build number***]
[ro.vendor.build.fingerprint]: [asus/CN_I005D/ASUS_I005_1 ***build number***]
This makes me wondering:
1. If all the CN flags change to WW, does this change the ro.boot.image.valid to Y?
2. Is it possible to change mentioned props?
Note: I am not a rom customization expert so I might be asking nonsense questions...
The conversion guides all mention modifying the CN values.
Yes, I did modify the vender/factory/COUNTRY file content from CN to WW. I didn't see any other places that need to be modified from the tutorial I have seen. Maybe I missed something....

At this moment, flash WW rom and change COUNTRY file only give us a 90% conversion and leave some itchy problems. I am thinking more about "perfect" conversion. Let's say if we could find a way to make all above props correct (WW) does it give us a perfect conversion? I am not sure you get my point. Maybe it's not a thing at all.....

There is two additional things to look at it ..
1) asuskeys partition backup all of it
And u will notice that asus key 4 has CN written in it and need to be modified using hex editor .. and by help of computer u have to flash twrp and reboot to fastbootd using command fastboot reboot fastboot to flash asuskey back with modification of ww
The extra thing which i could not trigger is when u go to setting /system /about phone /software information /(baseband version) of CN is different than WW .. need special way to change that and i cannot figure it out

I believe one way is to unpack the image, modify it, and flash it back. It should be the vendor partition (or vendor_boot). Hopefully, there is a better way. That's tedious.

I don't think OP chose this path, for the obvious reasons.
I did it in the ROG 2 / ROG 3 both with Root Explorer, But was unable to do it in the ROG 5 due to Android 11.
@bleachwind - Any thoughts, comments ?

So just read all of this thread not just the O.P (and read the O.P more then once) to get out of a bind if you reply with "the thread is too long i wont read it please help" don't expect anything short of "there's a search bar use it"
Okay well now, you must be on ZV5 in order to use this system.img
since we of the Boost LG G Stylo don't have the privilege of TWRP because of a pesky locked bootloader and now real way around it....i have edited and tested this stock ZV5 System.img
the things it comes with is Busybox installed (you still need to download the app)
Viper4Android working without having to disable SELinux
rooted and debloated (for the most part)
edited build.prop
Make sure you have a Windows PC
Download the LG Drivers from here
Download this rooted-ZV5-system.img
Place downloaded img to your external SD via adapter or through your phone
Now place SD back into your phone
Reboot your device into download mode
Download this folder and unzip it to your desktop:
Run ports.bat from within the extracted folder, to find your correct port (use the one with: LGVZANDNETDIAG1)
In the LG_Root folder hold shift and right click and choose open command windows here
Type
Code:
Send_Command.exe \\.\COM3
(Make sure your COM port number is correct, it varies)
Type
Code:
dd if=/storage/external_SD/rooted-ZV5-system.img bs=8192 seek=42816 count=327680 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0
you will see a flashing _ line instead of the # let it do it's thing you will know it finished when the # shows back up
Type
Code:
LEAVE
and press enter and let your device reboot

Is there an actual features list? I see you said debloated and build.prop edits, I was just wondering what it was exactly that was removed and what edits you did? I just used your root method today on my boost stylo 5.1.1 and it went perfectly! I want to use this too, but don't want to mess anything up. DO I need to factory reset or anything first? Or do I just follow the instructions in the OP? Thanks for all your hard work dude.
EDIT: Did you ever upload V2? Should I just use your guide for adding xposed? There probably isn't much different than a stock img I am guessing?

....possibly a factory reset if that doesn't work flash my completely stock system.img then manually root with my guide
Hi guys
I am sorry that my post is maybe very short but the original one was messed up by the system
So now I try it again and with a short version...
At first:
Thanks for help (a "flashing triple-noob") on xda . I found so many informations (also before with other problems) and this was way beyond "help"-all of you get a great "thumbs up"!
And so far-the only experience in flashing was on my Xperia Z1 (de-brand) and it was quite easy but now it seems....uhmmmm....
So now go to my questions:
(hint: I want to use the stock FW no custom)
1.)
Anybody know the differences between the firmware version (no, I dont mean fingerprint ) of "Customized Hong Kong" and "CE1" for XZP Premium G8142?
Depends on the answer of this question maybe the next two dont need an answer
2.)
Question for newflasher:
I found and read many informations about flashing the FW but I getting more confused with more information!?
If I use newflasher the normal guide for that was veryyyy easy. And also at the moment newflasher is the only application for the XZ so > no other choice
But on the other side some user mentioned the following things:
-newflasher doesnt do a "full flash", something/files will be incomplete (means what? somebody have issues after flash?)
-delete parts of the files (like "things dont need" or "the partion folder")
-create partition folder (?)
So what is right and what is wrong?
Do I need to follow the easy tutorial or do I need to customize depends what happens during the flash?
3.)
Question for flashtool:
I know that currently flashtool doesnt support the XZP (still right?) even if its mentioned under "supported devices".
Also found (the generally) information that it isnt necessary to unlock the bootloader for flash a stock rom.
Now in flashtool description everybody can read: "...can only be used by Xperia™ devices having an unlocked boot loader..."???
But for unlock it needs to save the DRM keys before...and for this needs root.
But for root it needs to unlock the BL before...and this will erase the DRM keys before can save them.
So even if flashtool works on XZP the keys will be always lost?
Uhmm what I get wrong?
So thats my questions and I hope I can get some answers.
Because for the decision about the next device the XZP always comes back after compare with others (even it has a hybrid sim tray).
Thanks for help
Launch Flashtool/XperiFirm and download the fw you want. Either Nougat or Oreo.
Go into the fw folder, copy all the newflasher files and simply drop them into the fw folder, connect your phone in flashmode and doubleclick newflasher.exe
Wait until it has completed flashing and that's it!
IF you want to upgrade your fw later on without losing data, then you would have to delete some files yes, but for now just let everything be.

No you use newflasher, Flashtool doesn't work with XZP.
So with newflasher you are meant to extract the partition.zip and put the contents in a partition folder in the same directory as the other files downloaded through XperiFirm right? If that's the case then how did I manage to update from Nougat to Oreo when I deleted the partition.zip file without extracting it and flashed the update?
Well although I planned to unlock bootloader after a few months I decided to grab the opportunity when unlock page started working and with the ultimatum by Huawei about providing unlock codes, but ever since I unlocked and fixed multiple boot loops I noticed few apps and features are now missing such as
HiFi Huawei sounds in Settings is gone
Unable to change or apply themes
smart remote Control is now gone,
Phone no longer stay awake while looking at it
There might be more stuff missing which I haven't noticed
I mean it feels absurd I just unlocked bootloader why are these stuffs missing this makes no sense to me, all I did is installed twrp, installed magisk no modules nothing, in fact, my favorite mods are giving boot loops anyway but that aside I do need the above things back please help out a friend, anyone else faced this ?
I have a theory like Miui had a "region" option and apps changes according to regions set. So does something like this happens in EMUI as well, I don't remember exactly but I believe I set region/language as the UK while completing the setup, if so how can I change it back(PS: I live in India)
or its the side effect of root perhaps?

U need to place them directly in /system/app
Or /data/apps and give permission rw-r--r--
Or try signing the apk it should work I guess if libs are not there

Take your own backup first... Try installing only one partition at time... To be honest this EMUI is very new to me... Dont know y they made so many different partitions
Or maybe it's a kirin's thing... I should have just gone with Op5t like rest of the world... Its just chaos and confusion here

Did they flash global rom on it? Or is it still CN?
Anyway I don't own the device and patching the device detection seems like a very dangerous way.

Seems like it's still China. After all it only supports English and every Asian language by default. None other European or global languages. I guess I'll wait for source code release. It indeed seems more safe.
Doesn't work
I did everything but double speaker doesn't work. Can some kindly fix it?

I've tried on LOS and on stock. On LOS there is no effect at all. On stock I can't change system partition to rw. I spend yesterday whole day for it but can't change. Without rw you cant replace the files. Do you know how to change permission of system to RW?
Ps. In few minutes I will upload files you asked
Above I've attached original file from stock rom.
The permissions are read only, and cant change it. Is it possible to make some flashable .zip file to get these permissions on system partitions changed?
Is there any way to get this work?

Sorry, my mistake for file, I'll send in one hour proper one. But where can I get this fix for permission you have mentioned? Could you give link please?
I've attached proper file from stock room A.13. Could you please provide link to fix of the rw permissions?

There Isn't a screen recorder or secure folder on the SM-A226B you can use calculator+ and flash a android 13 GSI to use the screen recorder.
You can enable screenrecorder by modifiying some lines in /system/etc/floating_feature.xml
<SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_SUPPORT_SCREEN_RECORDER>TRUE</SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_SUPPORT_SCREEN_RECORDER>
<SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_CONFIG_SCREEN_RECORDER_ITEM>-pip</SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_CONFIG_SCREEN_RECORDER_ITEM>
Without spaces. If there is already the value simply change to this. I'm working on a way to enable secure folder in my free time. First tests were successful however there are still some problems. I'm extracting files from A13 5G (SM-A136B) because it has the same chipset as A22 5G and has secure folder

thanks!!!! will this work on any other phone other than a226b?
and do you know of any file manager app that can actually edit system files (i have a good one called filemanager+ but it can only read even if i do mount -o remount,rw /
Yes, it should. If this doesn't work there is another line that may need to be changed. Make sure you have at least one ui 3. Updating Samsung Capture may be required (https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu.../samsung-capture-5-4-22-android-apk-download/) Let me know.
I do not know any good file manager because I modify system files with Magisk. You can use termux. Pull file to pc or use quick edit on phone.

um how can i fix "system partition doesnt have enough free space" when trying to convert newer samsung capture to system app
You don't need to convert. Just update with apk when phone on. Like every app. I made a mistake in the link. I fixed it. The file should exist on every Samsung one ui device.

oh bruh i deleted system app and reinstalled
An apk of Samsung capture must remain in the /system partition in order to get priv-app permissions
I recommend you to reinstall original firmware (One UI 5.1 if it is available in your region) then modify floating_feature.xml.
This file is placed in every samsung device in /system/etc/floating_feature.xml
You do not have to create nothing. Just modify it add that lines. In my firmware (official one UI 5.1) the second line is already placed in the file. So I simply added:
<SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_SUPPORT_SCREEN_RECORDER>TRUE</SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_SUPPORT_SCREEN_RECORDER>
in the middle of the file

i still didnt have the file i made it and updated capture but didnt get screen recorder even after reboot :/ am on android 11 and im not updating especially as theres bootloader update
For me it is working. The file floating_feature.xml needs to exist. if it doesn't exist this means your firmware version is old and it doesn't have modern one UI. I don't know how I can help you more
