no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.1 - Updater process ended with ERROR: 1 - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I'm currently trying to root my Samsung S8+ (G955FD). I've followed the TWRP guide, step by step, but I've run into a roadblock trying to flash no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.1.
I've repeated the steps from the TWRP multiple times, but every time i attempt to flash no-verify it prints:
...
Unpacking the installer...
Updater process ended with ERROR: 1
Error installing zip file '/sdcard/no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.1.zip'
Updating partition details...
...done
Click to collapse
If i attempt to install the no verity with the 'Zip signature verification' ticked, It prints the same but instead of "Updater process ended with ERROR: 1" it prints "Zip signature verification failed!".
I've tried multiple different mirrors, and verified the hash, so I'm not exactly sure what Zip signature is.
I accidentally attempted to boot into system after installing TWRP for the first time and got stuck on the boot-loop, and i assume it's still that way, in a boot-loop. I did a complete factory reset prior to attempting this. I'm 99% sure I enabled USB de-bugging in dev settings. I've tried wiping the preload partition to get rid of the "Failed to mount /preload message". I have no backup of anything. I hope I'm not leaving out any info..
P.S - I do recall getting some pretty big errors while attempting to format data partition. Here is a imgur link of what it printed.. , but after repeating the steps from TWRP, these errors are nowhere to be found.
P.P.S - At least let me know if i need to buy a new phone

I should have thought to include this, but here is the recovery.log https://pastebin.com/vRNUgNdU
Edit: Sorry for adding a new reply, i didn't realise i could edit

P.P.S - At the worst case your would only need to flash stock firmware.
You will always get the error message when your first format your data through TWRP.
It seems that the no- verity-opt-encrypt zip is causing the same issues as yours mainly on android 9 ( pie ) with other people to.
Your can repeat your TWRP proceedure but instead of using the no- verity-opt-encrypt zip use the one from this guide
[Deprecated] Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt, Disk Quota Disabler [11/2/2020]
Hi all! For the past couple of months, I've been looking into making a more universal solution to disable dm-verity and forceencrypt. Needing to take different zips, modify them for different devices, and then cross your fingers when you switch...

You will probably have to add ' quota ' to the file name.

Sorry, but I don't fully understand what you mean by this. I literally just add the word 'quota' to the name of the .zip file? Just quota? Does it need to be in a specific order, letter case or with or without quotations?
I can't seem to find a solid answer on the thread.

I normally add after forceenrypt before the date.

Which version did you use?

I encountered the same issue with my old but beloved Redmi 3S. Used TWRP 3.2.3-4 (or older), that did the trick.

[Q] How to solve "Error executing updater binary zip"?

Hi
I am not sure if anyone is still reading this forum, but I recently found my old Desire S and wanted to flash a ROM to it to revive it.
But I stumbled upon several problems.
The phone has currently twrp v2.8.7.1 installed, but simply installing a rom zip file with it always delivers the same error:
E:Error exectuting updater binary in zip '/sdcard/CM-11S-UNOFFICIAL-BR1-saga.zip
Error flashing zip 'sdcard/...'
I tried several roms I found in this forum, but most of the download links seem to be offline by now. I do not really care which rom is installed. The only goal was to find one which is working and the phone can be used with it.
It is not possible to mount->sd-ext in twrp even though an sd card is installed.
Mount->data is only possible when the sd-card is inserted. If it is removed mounting data is not possible.
Yesterday I had some trouble with wiping most of the available partitions in twrp, but today it seems to work properly, except wipe->advanced->internal storage which results in the error: "Invalid partition selection"
It is probably also worth mentioning that wipe->Format Data->yes was performed, and therefore barely any data is currently on the phone.
ADB and Fastboot commands can be executed from the pc and are being processed.
That's pretty much every information I think would be beneficial to find a solution to the flashing problem.
I also found the thread "[Q] How can I install Mokee rom?" in this forum, where the same problem ("exectuting updater binary in zip ...") seems to be solved by installing a newer version of twrp. But since I think, that the installed one on my phone is the newest, I only think that I could try downgrading the recovery. Not sure if this would help, and where to find an older recovery.
Thanks in advance for any possible solutions to approach the given problem.
Edit:
I installed recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5-saga to try a different recovery. Then I pushed the rom via adb. The installation failed with:
"set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
E: Error in /sdcard/rom.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted."
Edit2: SOLVED
If someone else should have similar problems:
The error message from cwm seems to indicate that the used rom is not flashable with this version of cwm.
I was able to install the ics rom aokp_saga_milestone-6-120708-2354 with cwm version recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5-saga (both can be found in the download section https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146601
Try 4ext recovery v1.0.0.6 RC3 build8.

Not able to flash Stock image with custom Recovery (TWRP 3.1.1.1.)

Hello guys,
Today I wanted to update my Honor 8 (FDR-L09) because it was showing me, that there is a new update ready to install (FRD-L09C432B405) and I was on a very old firmware (something from mid 2017). So it was time for me to update.
I downloaded the latest update (FRD-L09C432B405) and tried to wipe the cache, dalvik, and Data, but for some reason it "couldn't mount /data" and the wipe failed.
After an advanced wipe it worked and I tried to flash the stock image (the update which was shown to me (FRD-L09C432B405) with TWRP (3.1.1.1.)).
Now my hassle starts:
1. The Rom couldn't get flashed because of "Error: 7" --> I fixed it with the common "Error 7 fix --> editing the update-script and removing the assert line. (And yes, I'm 100% sure that it was the right ROM.
2. Now TWRP seemingly starts to flash the rom but inbetween the lines there is "mountencrypt: failed to mount /data: no such file or directory and it ends with "unknown command [[]" and it takes just two seconds, so the flash obviously isn't succsessfull.
I tried the "failed to mount /data" fix, where I change the data system to ext3 and then back to f2fs and change it back, but it won't work.
In my frustration I did another pretty bad thing and made another advanced wipe and wiped the system too, so now I don't have an OS on my system.
Maybe it's also important to note that there was a window showing up for a very short amount of time, with something like "encryption/encrypted" showed up.
What should I do now? Is there a way to fix the "/data couldn't be mounted" problem? Or am I missing a vital step in flashing the stock rom?
Thanks for your kind help!
You can not flash an update with twrp unless you use hurupdater. You essentially bricked your phone. Look for hurupdater here on xda and follow the instructions and you'll be fine

Samsung S7 Edge stuck on "Powered by android"

[Problem solved] If anybody faces this kind of problem please notice it is not the problem of Nand-erase but DRK error and flashing with .pit file won't fix your problem. Just go to this discord group, https://discord.gg/Z4UZheJ [permanent] and ask for #Augustin. He will solve your problem 100%. He did for me. Full working network + rooted.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello, I was trying to update my s7 edge (SM-G935FD) with Oreo 8.0 from Nougat 7.0 with a custom firmware from sammobile.com.
The used file is: sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7-edge/SM-G935FD/BNG/download/G935FXXS3ERHD/236500/
But when flashing with Odin I accidentally selected "Nand Erase" option. After the operation completed my phone tried to boot up, showed installing updates, then tried to boot again and now permanently stuck on "SAMSUNG Galaxy S7 edge POWERED BY android".
Still, I can access "download mode" by using "Power + down + home" button and "android recovery" by using "Power + up + home" button.
While loading android recovery screen it shows, "Installing update..." then "Error" with an icon of android eyes crossed.
In my recovery menu, these lines are shown:

I flashed with this same firmware to no avail. I have also tired "Wipe data / Factory reset" and "Wipe cache partition". Nothing worked.
Now, other people who have tired this firmware faced the same problem for #fail to open recovery_cause
But, in my case, as bold lines indicates, this is may be due to using "Nand Erase" in Odin.
I do have :
Nougat 7.0 firmware for my device [Please notice that its baseband is U2 - so I can't downgrade bootloader from S3 to U2 hence can't flash with Nougat]
.pit file for my device [not sure about this one - I actually need a valid pit file from the above firmware, others don't seem to work.]
I have tried Z3box / octopus / smart switch samsung software to recognize my device, but they always reply with "Card not found". My Windows treats my device as unrecognized in this situation.
Please help me fix this issue. I just have bought this phone - second hand.
-----------------------------------
Update - I tried to use stock recovery files to flash with TPRW stock recovery. After I did that It started the tprw recovery and I installled two files
1. twrp-3.1.0-0
2.SR3-superuser
It completed and when I selected to reboot my phone, it just won't turn on anymore. I guess it is due to my partition is all messed up. I forced it to start up using my charger cable and plugging it to charging. Using "Download mode" then I tried to uninstall this TPRW and flashed only "AP" with "G935FXXU2ERD5" with odin as I was unable to find any stock recovery for "G935FXXS3ERHD".
Now, I am stuck with U2 bootloader whereas I need S3 bootloader. My phone still doesn't turn on normally. I have to plug it in charging port / USB cable to pc, then it goes straight up to "Android Recovery" and Now shows this:

Please help me. I know I messed up, I shouldn't have used the TPRW recovery. Now I can't even flash with previous G935FXXS3ERHD or any U2 firmware. Please help me. I feel like crying.

Dear all,
I don't know how to say it, but a miracle just happened. My phone was stuck to "Android recovery" mode for half an hour. The charging cable was plugged in - in this time. Right before I am about to disconnect the cable in order to take it to repair shop, it started booting out of nowhere. :fingers-crossed:
Then I set up the device and the device installed applications by itself. God knows what happened but here is my system spec now :
Android version 8.0.0
Samsung Experience version 9.0
Baseband version G93FXXU3ERHC
Kernel version 3.18.91-13895453-QB19588583
Build number R16NW.G93FXXS3ERHD
The TPRW application is also installed.
I don't know what happened but it has managed to boot.
--------------------------------
The problem I faced is, It doesn't let me select any network carrier for my region instead it just says, "Failed to connect! Try again later."
Now I am afraid to even restart the device fearing if it gets stuck in the boot loop again. I am so scared I don't know if I will flash this device with any stock firmware anymore.
And the "Android recovery" option still shows "Installing updates" following with "Error" with android icons eye crossed out + shows previous error messages still the same.

If you could just help me solve my problems I will be always grateful to you guys and this community.
@jaqjacek if you can point out a tutorial to me or just explain the steps elaborately that would be helpful.
@yakapa40 if you can help me how to use those files, please.

Ok, sir, I will try and let you know. One question though, is there any possibility that my phone may be stuck in the boot loop again while doing this .pit flash?
My android recovery says:
Android Recovery
samsung/hero2ltexx/hero2lte
8.0.0/R16NW/G935FXXU2ERD5
user/release-keys
use volume up/down and power.
is there any possibility that my phone may be stuck in the boot loop again while doing this .pit flash?
i don't know , flashing pit file will remove partitions and flashing firmware will re mount partitions ( but not Non Volatile memory )

Dear sir,
I am still waiting for some kind of help. I haven't flashed my phone with .pit file cause I am too scared that my phone will get stuck in boot loop again. Please, somebody, help me. If I get stuck in the boot loop again, I don't think I can revert back to current position [Cause I don't know how my phone was fixed, it just fixed itself somehow.] and I can't take the stress. Please somebody who is an expert on this matter, please help me. I beg you.
I am still waiting for someone to reply to my post. I have not fixed my problem and honestly, I can't think I can until someone expert help me in this matter. Please, someone, help me.

I Fix that problem Yesterday on my phone. Download latest rom with proper country from https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?q=sm-g930f&exact=1&r=&v=&rpp=15
Unzip it
take out latest PIT file from CSC file. I just use Total Comander and treat tar.md5 file like any other compress archive
Use odin 3.13.1 put BL to BL, CP to CP... Use CSC file not HOME_CSC and remember you will lose your data on phone.
PUT pit in pit panel.
Flash it with every option check but one. The Reboot Phone should be uncheck.
When Every thing will be good restart your phone with combination Vol- + HOME + power
Phone will run erasing , reboot and show "no command" if not and its boot normally you lucky.
if "no command"
-put phone into download mode
download latest twrp.tar.md5 and put in in AP section inside odin
flash it with every thing uncheck in odin no reboot, no erase nand
reboot your phone and go to recovery vol+ + HOME + power when phone start booting
if TWRP boots just plug phone back to computer download no-verify script zip put it on phone and flash it, or use adb sideload
wipe cache and factory reset
reboot phone
every thing should be ok from now
if phone after some time will have poor network connection or GSM singal will be gone thats is the problem that I don't have fix for now.

Thank you for the very late reply. I have updated my post a long time ago and you will see following your method wouldn't fix my phone properly - the connection issue remained although the booting up was solved. You can't fix the DRK (Device root key) error in this process. You have to flash with a modified combination file to fix this error. It is only possible by the Samsung developers as the bootloader itself is in the Trusted App Sector.
I have mentioned in my edited post that Augustin in a PDA Group in Discord [The link is provided at the start] fixed my problem. As I followed his method, I realized no matter how many times I would've flashed my device with the stock Rom's .csc it wouldn't fix my problem. I initially thought that flashing with .pit file would fix my phone because I used Nand Erase - but I was wrong. It was a safety measure by Samsung to protect their device. You need a modified .csc file that Augustin gave me. I can give you all the files he gave me to use but I think it would be better if you contact him instead. The process is so complicated it took me 5 hours.
I flashed with the combination file he gave me, then flashed the stock rom's .csc separately. Then I tried to flash the whole ROM again. It worked but with no network. Then I installed TWRP recovery, edited some system file [I don't remember which one but he said to me that I needed refreshed new files], then formatted. Then did the whole process again. At some point, I remember I faced some problem with Bootloader exception [You will too because of the combination file but its ok], just follow this video when you need it cause he didn't know exactly how to fix this for the s7 edge but this video showed how.

At last for many trials and errors my phone was fixed. I couldn't thank him enough bro.
I don't think anybody on the internet can fix this with custom combination lock like him. Trust me cause I searched a lot. They even kicked me from XDA Discord group when I posted this exact solution pointing out to the PDA group after asking to help me [when no one did]. I don't know what it is between them, but they kicked me.
You can have the files if you know what to do by yourself. Just give me a knock, I will give you the Google drive link to the files. Thanks anyway.

Thank you for the very late reply. I have updated my post a long time ago and you will see following your method wouldn't fix my phone properly - the connection issue remained although the booting up was solved. You can't fix the DRK (Device root key) error in this process. You have to flash with a modified combination file to fix this error. It is only possible by the Samsung developers as the bootloader itself is in the Trusted App Sector.

twrp cant decrypt data

[xiaomi redmi note 8]
so, the thing is:
days ago i tried to install a new rom, but it was kinda bugged, so i decided to flash the stock one. when i went to wipe system, data, vendor and cache, i got an invalid argument error. to fix this, i used adb and <fastboot erase> command to erase system, userdata, vendor and cache. when i reinstalled twrp, it couldnt mount those partitions, so i changed them files' system to fat and to ext4 again. it worked and now i was able to wipe everything. i installed the stock rom and then twrp version 3.5, attempting to root the phone. when i firstly entered recovery mode, i marked that box "never show this again" and allowed it to make modifications, but it didnt request any password (however i set up one). went to "install", but all files were encrypted. then, i restarted the phone to recovery again, and that verification step i mentioned earlier (to allow modifications) was there again.
tried "twrp decrypt (password)" using the terminal, but it shows me "failed to decrypt data"
tried to format all data, but it shows me "operation not permitted"
how can i proceed? may anyone help me, please?

OxygenOS installation fails at resizing partitions

I have an 8T-KB005 device and I'm trying to get OxygenOS ver 11.0.11.11 KB05AA synchronized on both slots.
Using the copyPartitions.zip failed;
Installing a full OTA twice using Oxygen's built in updater kinda worked but it created 3 additional "cow" partitions;
Installing OOS to both slots through TWRP failed; and
trying to install OOS using the manual fastboot method failed.
With regard to the "cow" partitions, I deleted them and found I was again not able to boot from both slots. I went though this process three times just to check and the outcome was always the same. (Does the on-phone update process create these -cow partitions for everyone?)
At one point I used Fastboot -w to clear everything then start fresh. I have found that if I delete, then recreate, all the logical partitions on both slots, then *sometimes* all 5 logical partitions will resize when I flash system, vendor, product, etc. image files and then I can boot to system from that particular slot, but then the logical partitions will NOT all resize when I switch to the opposite slot and try to do the same. This is the error message I get when I'm using the fastboot method:
Code:
C:\xxx\xxx>fastboot flash system_ext system_ext.img
Invalid sparse file format at header magic
Resizing 'system_ext_a' FAILED (remote: 'Not enough space to resize partition')
fastboot: error: Command failed
I can currently boot to system on one slot and get a Qualcomm Crashdump kill init error when I try to boot to the other. I could use the phone pretty well if I had to with just one slot operational but if I don't fix it this issue will eventually come back to haunt me.
Which instructions did you follow for flashing from fastboot?
These worked for me: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...epo-of-oxygen-os-builds.4193183/post-85466569
Pay attention to the fastboot delete-logical-partition commands (which have to be issued in fastboootd).
I've seen the OTA updater create temporary partitions that were not ending in cow, so check out for other partitions that may have been left over from the last failed update.
You may want to try deleting all logical partitions and recreating them with small sizes. You can definitely remove all logical partitions that contain cow in their name.
I've attached the output of
Code:
fastboot getvar all
with the device running fastbootd. It contains the stock partition layout for the latest US firmware installed with the full OTA on both slots.
I followed the write-up from xstefen and also this one from coomac, both very good. They say the same thing but combined they give a lot of detail.
As per their instructions, I always deleted ALL logical partitions and then re-created the a/b ones. But looking at the text file you sent to me, I see that one has 3 of the cow partitions. Interestingly, every time I did an OTA update on my phone I ended up with 2 or 3 of the cow partitions, but not consistently the same ones. I've spent very much time over the last 2 days scouring through the output lists from fastboot getvar all trying to get to the bottom of this.
You can definitely remove all logical partitions that contain cow in their name.

This is what I have been doing but as I stated, it results in not being able to boot on one or the other slot. On the other hand, because the creation of the cow partitions is unpredictable, even when using exactly the same OTA update file, I am reluctant to just rebuild all 5 of those partitions in addition to the usual one as listed in the instructions from xstefen and coomac.
The instructions in the thread you linked look good and seem equivalent to the ones I linked.
Another thing you can try is to flash a downgrade package for OP8T, following the same instructions.

Thank you, Fif_, for your replies and for providing the text file. All of it gave me some clues to follow up.
I beat this problem to death over the past couple of days. What I learned during the downgrade-then-upgrade process gave me a better understanding of what's going on with the logical partitions. I posted my conclusions on the thread I referenced above. I hope it helps someone.
